#365DaysOfVGM Day 83:
Mexican Mission (TimeSplitters 2 [2002])
A fancy Classic Guitar right there already makes for a strong melody, mixed in with electronic sounds and a lingering Flute. Soon after the beginning portion, it gets more involved by adding a Trumpet and my favorite part, the Idiophones (Might be Castanets with added reverb, I think?), ever-present on-and-off throughout the rest of the track! There’s also the occasional Bell and Techno Drums nearly 2 minutes in, before going into a different take on the same awesome melody from earlier.
Admittedly, I never got far enough into the game to play the stage itself, so I can’t really speak about how much this fits the feeling of the stage it’s featured in, so much so that me and my brother got stuck late into the 1st mission on co-op, but hey, I can’t ignore the music of games I played, so this track sits proudly as a top favorite of mine!
(Length: 4+ minutes)

1998, Grant Kirkhope composes this for Banjo Kazooie at Rare.
4 years later, Graeme Norgate, formerly of Rare, works on Timesplitters 2:

Given Banjo and the TS2 circus level are both supposed to evoke childhood fun I think this was an intentional musical reference and maybe a nod to his 'mentor', but I also wonder to what degree Graeme was collaborating on specific tracks on Banjo.
