Sondra Sherman majored in painting and jewelry at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia before moving to Germany in 1984. At the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich, Sherman's work reflected the school's emphasis on strong design. More recently, however, the artist's work has begun to express a sense of human character and emotion. Via Smithsonian
Sondra Sherman (born 1958) is an American painter and jewelry maker. Sherman's work has been praised for its "deeply personal" expression of human emotion and of the subjects inspired by them.[1] Sherman's skills and reputation as a jeweler have earned her many awards, including a Tiffany Foundation Emerging Artists Award, various fellowships, and a Fulbright Scholarship.

LADY GAGA ATTENDS THE 2023 OSCARS
After a long blackout season, Lady Gaga finally returned to the public eye at the 2023 Academy Awards held at the Los Angeles Dolby Theater.
Not only did she grace us with several looks, but also with a surprise performance of her “Top Gun: Maverick movie title song “Hold My Hand”.
Styling by Sandra Amador and Tom Eerebout with assistance by Victor Cordero, Gianni Catalina and Venetia Kidd. The hair was done by Frederic Aspiras using Joico while glam was done by Sarah Tanno-Stewart using Haus Labs. Sweet and short manicure by Miho Okawara who used OPI.
Mother Monster made her entrance wearing one of the freshly debuted Versace Fall/Winter 2023 closing numbers seen on Gigi Hadid — a semi-transparent black tulle corseted bustier top with bullet bra, long wool-silk box pleat drop-waist skirt with frontal projected kick and silver Nastro Gianni Medusa 95 belt to perfectly reflect the Italian fashion label's house codes!
Her jewelry was provided by none other than Tiffany & Co. who chose some of the most stunning diamonds for her. Just like these $1,950 solitaire brilliant diamond stud earrings.
Shop:
Tiffany & Co. Solitaire Studs ($1,950.00)
It’s rare to see archival pieces on the red carpet—it happens occasionally but not as often as jewelry historians would hope. This 1960s necklace of platinum and diamonds definitely made sure to catch all the attention.
She also wore the house’s “Victoria” collection platinum and diamond cluster bracelet...
...and a whopping $20,800 platinum and diamond pavé band ring from the “Soleste” collection.
Shop:
Tiffany & Co. Band Ring ($20,800.00)
To create the look, Tanno used products from Gaga's beauty brand, Haus Labs. She started with Color Fuse Blush.
"I used “Dragon Fruit Daze” first which served as the base, and then we layered with “Watermelon Bliss” to add depth,". For Gaga's red glossy lip, Tanno used Atomic Shake Lip Lacquer in shade “Cherry Shine”. "It was the first time I've used it on the red carpet — It deserved a moment!"
Tanno also reveals the reason why Gaga's skin wasn't flush after removing so much makeup before she got on stage, crediting the Triclone Skin Tech Foundation, which she wore on the carpet, for being very gentle and soothing on the skin.
"Because our foundation contains fermented arnica it calms and soothes the skin while you are wearing it — I believe this is why I didn't have to worry about any skin irritation after such a fast removal." Tanno explains.
On her nails: OPI gel lacquer in “It’s A Girl!”. So timeless.
For her raw performance of “Hold My Hand”, Gaga went for a bare face and a minimal outfit consisting of pieces we’ve seen her rock before in her off-duty hours.
She rocked her favorite Saint Laurent black skinny jeans with slashed knees she owns and loves since 2016! It was paired with a vintage band tee she turned inside out, which I have yet to ID.
The shoes are the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star classic low-top sneakers in black canvas.
There was actually a third outfit change that was not broadcasted on TV! LG wore a vintage Versace Spring/Summer 2002 black silk gown with lace insets and jet crystal embellishment. Above you can see a similar, shorter version.
She also added another Tiffany & Co. ring onto the mix. It’s the alternating ring in platinum and diamonds ($19,500) from the “Victoria” collection.
Shop:
Tiffany & Co. Alternating Ring ($19,500.00)

"For me the scale of an artist's life and work is of one lived at a particular moment, he is a witness to his time and his testament is his art." Happy Birthday to our longtime friend and the sculptor of the extraordinary, Peter Shelton! In his anthology of artwork, Shelton is notable for not only crafting physically impressive sculptures, but expanding objects into reflective pockets of being. "What interests me most in my work is the 'peelness' of it, how it lingers on the the threshold between inside and outside...When I look at my own work, I can see my own puzzled face." (Shelton, 2012, speaking on his body of work 'thingsgetwet.') Shelton's career has been included in numerous exhibitions at prestigious institutions, including solo shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art and LACMA, and celebrated with awards such as the Louis Comfort TIffany Foundation Grant and the John S. Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship. Learn more about Peter Shelton by finding this post in our linkin.bio. -- 1. Saving WPA Pre-World War II Murals by Ross Dickinson From Demolition in Los Angeles
“Your blog post has been syndicated at ExpertClick.com” Its a bit of a coup to get an article syndicated, and its certainly prestigious, as additional “proof” that the info and the author are considered far and wide authoritative and an expert in the field. This article was syndicated for USA national redistribution. What does it mean that this article is “ syndicated”? See end of article for explanation. So, enjoy and trust our content!!
Detail of scholars in Ross Dickinson’s History of the Written Word in the library of Thomas Jefferson High School – before conservation in 2023-2024
Ross Dickinson was from California and studied with Frank Tolles Chamberlin (1873–1961) at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, where he became interested in mural painting. In 1926 Dickinson spent nine months in New York City studying with John Costigan at the Grand Central School of Art and Charles Hawthorne at the National Academy of Design; he also received a scholarship from the Tiffany Foundation. Dickinson returned to California later that year and studied at the Santa Barbara School of Fine Arts, where he received his first mural commission.
His painting style was well founded in “Modernism” or “Regionalism” that was so internationally prevalent as the “modern” style that was so popular. Though he was interested in murals, he was very productive with easel paintings, especially in this beginning artistic development in the 20’s and 30’s. Years ago, FACL was the art and painting conservation team for working on the preservation and restoration of the estate of personal paintings that Ross Dickinson left to his family. William A. Karges Fine Art handled that estate in 1993 and hired us to collaborate.
But it was because of his mural abilities as an experienced and accomplished artist, Dickinson was vetted and chosen by the federal government’s Works Project Administration that was putting professional artists to work during the Depression.
Now, we have been chosen to save one of Ross Dicknson’s murals that he made under this federal program during the Depression in 1937 that are located in the library of Thomas Jefferson High School in South Central Los Angeles. Here’s a link to the WPA “New Deal” mention of the murals: https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/thomas-jefferson-high-school-history-recorded-word-mural-los-angeles-ca/
Before Conservation of the HISTORY OF THE WRITTEN WORD by Ross Dickinson 1937
During the last two years, the pre-World War 2 era built high school in South Central Los Angeles, California has been working on a massive renovation (under the direction of the Los Angeles Unified School District – LAUSD). Preserving the “historic fabric” has been a major focus and the preservation of the WPA murals in the library from the massive demolitions and upgrading has been of special interest.
Working on the removed murals at Fine Art Conservation Laboratories. Once ready, the murals will be reinstalled back into the school’s library in their original location.
Fine Art Conservation Laboratories (FACL, Inc.) was vetted and chosen from among more than a dozen firms bidding for the contract for removing the murals, restoring them and then reinstalling them back into their original locations when the renovated library will be ready (maybe this October, 2024?). LAUSD pre-qualified FACL – Scott M. Haskins and the contract was awarded through the General Contractor, Kemp Brothers Construction Co.

Before and after cleaning
The oil on canvas murals glued to the walls with a lead based adhesive were removed last year and their preservation and restoration has been completed at FACL’s lab. The lab space is laid out and equipped for working on detached murals (10,000 sq. ft). At the moment, several other renown mural projects are under way, including another WPA project with murals from a library from San Pedro High School, in the Los Angeles, CA area.

New ACONIC Podcast Series: Challenging Stereotypes About Asian Americans
New ACONIC Podcast Series Launches to Challenge Stereotypes and Discuss Personal and Professional Highs and Lows with Asian and Asian American Icons
The Iconic Podcast, a new series featuring iconic Asian and AAPI leaders in a candid conversation about the challenges and triumphs experienced along their journeys to success, has premiered today on all major podcast platforms and on YouTube. The debut episode features a frank and unfiltered discussion with San Francisco 49ers President Paraag Marathe, with the following episodes to come every two weeks on Wednesday.
The Aconic Podcast is sponsored by Altos Ventures, the Founders of the Asian Alumni Chapter of Stanford Graduate School of Business, The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), and Gold House and hosted by Soon Yu, an international speaker, award-wining and best-selling author, and Forbes contributor who has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Entrepreneur Magazine, and New York Times.
Each episode will delve into the guest’s “hero’s journey” to success, including the roadblocks, misfires, frustrations, and failures they faced and their seminal moments of vulnerability, hope, perseverance, and achievement. Through these stories, Yu explores the key lessons each guest learned and how they’ve used them to create lasting impact in their fields.
“Through this series we are going to dispel the common stereotype of Asian Americans as a ‘model minority’ by having real and authentic conversations with some of the most prominent leaders in business, politics, and culture,” said Soon Yu, Host of the Aconic Podcast.
“Our conversations pull back the many layers of the Asian American experience to give audiences an inside look at what it really takes to rise above the obstacles that come along with the journey to success.”
“Our work at TAAF has shown that visibility is vital in shifting narratives surrounding our community,” said Norman Chen, CEO of the Asian American Foundation. “We’re excited to partner with Soon and his team to create a platform to showcase the complexity and variety of the Asian American experience and the triumphs achieved through adversity.”
“In a crowded landscape, it is up to us to invest in getting our stories out there to level the playing field when it comes to representation,” said Bing Chen, CEO & Co-Founder of Gold House. “We hope that Aconic will help Asian Pacific leaders reflect on their own journeys to success and inspire the next generation of Asian Pacific creatives, business leaders, and beyond to persevere as they pursue their dreams to become their best selves.”
“The powerful personal stories listeners will hear give moving examples of how some of today’s greatest leaders can stumble or face hardship but learn and grow,” said Chris Loh, GSB Asian Alumni Chapter Co-President and Aconic Podcast Executive Producer. “The lessons learned are truly inspiring, and we hope audiences develop new perspectives and helpful insights to use on their own journeys.”
Upcoming guests of the Aconic Podcast include:Paraag Marathe, President, San Francisco 49ers Debby Soo, CEO, OpenTable Andrew Yang, Founder, Forward Party Manny Maceda, CEO and Chairman, Bain Deb Liu, CEO, Ancestry Joe Bae, CEO, KKR Jenny Ming, CEO, Rothys Ho Nam, Managing Partner, Altos VC Aftab Pureval, Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio Yamini Rangan, CEO, Hubspot Bing Chen, CEO & Co-Founder, Gold House Michelle Wu, Mayor of Boston, Massachusetts Norman Chen, CEO, The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) Tiffany Cheng, Miss Asia USA Steve Chen, Co-Founder, YouTube
I’ve listened to the first two episodes, and both were superb. The second episode with Debby Soo, CEO, OpenTable was especially enlightening with her memories of her parents consumed by their travel business, her time spent in the library, and her absorption of an intense work ethic.
The Aconic Podcast series was developed to promote positive narratives that inspire and empower the AAPI community. It features candid conversations with successful Asian and Asian American icons.
The Aconic Podcast is sponsored by Altos Ventures, the Founders of the Asian Alumni Chapter of Stanford Graduate School of Business, The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), and Gold House. It is hosted by Soon Yu, an international speaker, award-winning and best-selling author, and Forbes contributor who has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Entrepreneur Magazine, and New York Times.
In each episode of The Aconic Podcast series, Soon Yu delves into the experiences of these icons — from moments of frustration to those of hope, determination, and achievement. Guests shed light on their personal journeys overcoming challenges and sharing triumphs, and how they applied their learnings to create lasting impact in their fields. The Aconic Podcast is available on all major podcast platforms and on YouTube at @aconicpodcast. New episodes are released every two weeks on Wednesday.
Check out The Aconic Podcast to learn more. After all, the more we understand about other cultures, the more we can empathize and collaborate.
I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes by architect I.M. Pei, who once said: “Success is a collection of problems solved.”

Looking through some artists I found AN-MY le, whose work seems to me somewhat controversial. An-My le was born in Saigon, Vietnam 1960 but works as a photography professor at Bard College in Brooklyn, New York
An-My graduated from Stanford University as a biologist and received her MFA degree (Master of Fine Arts) in photography from Yale University. An-My began her career as a photographer around the 1990s after graduating as a biologist.
An-My's early work includes; "Viet Nam '' (1994): In this series, An captures the impact of war on the environment and culture of VietNam. "Small Wars" (1999-2002): This series contains some provoking images in which she captures battles during the Vietnam War reenactment, the Viet Cong camps, and soldiers resting, among other pictures that give us another perspective of the historical context of the conflict.
An-My le has exhibited her work in various museums and galleries, which include The Museum of Modern Art, New York, Marian Goodman Gallery, New York, NY, and MoMA PS1, New York, NY.
Among her various prominent works, I found "Small Wars" from 1999, which I thought was very interesting to see the recreation of the Vietnam War. These pictures recreate that historical event very well, but the one that impacted me captured soldiers sleeping. In this picture, An captured a camp tent between the forest and some soldiers sleeping in front of it.
Personally, I like this series because as a whole it does capture the sense of war.
Awards:
Some of the most important awards and honors include "The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Awards' ' (2009), which celebrated An-My as an emerging artist, and "Anonymous Was A Woman' ' (2006), which recognizes female artists and their contribution to the art world.
An-My's best-known and most important works include; "Small Wars" (1999-2002), "Viet Nam" (1994-1998), and "29 Palms" (2003-2004).

Harry the Comedian by u/lastlemming-pip
Harry the Comedian So Harry filmed a promo for his guest spot in a charity event for Stand Up for Heroes, an organization created to aid veterans as they return to civilian life. People who have seen the video immediately noticed that Harry did his stand-up shtick wearing a chest full of medals. Lots of thoughts on whether it is appropriate to wear medals earned in combat for a comedy routine. (Taking the expression “I killed ‘em” literally, I guess.) But of note—missing in action is his coronation medal. Why wouldn’t he be wearing his coronation medal?Simplest answer is that the video was filmed last year before the coronation medals were awarded. But, you say, Harry didn’t appear at last year’s Stand Up for Heroes. And you’d be right. Suspect the death of the Queen may have prevented Harry’s comedy debut. But this year? Right? Isn’t he appearing w/ Tiffany Haddish, Bruce Springsteen & other famous folk like everyone says? (https://ift.tt/oBXpONL, you’d expect so since he—or somebody—released the video. But funnily enough, a list of the guest stars featured at 17th annual Stand Up for Heroes fun raiser is available (https://ift.tt/nwuzqQM Harry’s name is no where to be found. So why publish the video now? Well maybe Meghan feels that the Foundation needs a bit of a nudge shove. post link: https://ift.tt/WIPq8LR author: lastlemming-pip submitted: November 09, 2023 at 02:09AM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit

Meet Rebecca Morris, a 2024 Joan Mitchell Fellow.
Morris writes: “I am interested in how a large painting can create a physical experience of protection and containment. I thin my oil paint to the transparency of watercolor and apply it to canvases as they lay flat on the floor. This method allows me to control the paint’s liquidity, activating a quick and improvisational way of mark making.”
Rebecca Morris has dedicated her thirty-year career to the exploration of abstraction. Using the basic elements of stroke, surface, and frame to question the underlying pretenses of abstract painting, Morris exposes the tensions between the flat surface of the work and the painting as discrete object. Her solo exhibitions include: a recent traveling survey exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, curated by Jamillah James; 356 S. Mission Road, Los Angeles; The Blaffer Museum, Houston, TX; LAXArt, Los Angeles; Kunsthalle Lingen, Germany; The Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago, IL. Significant group exhibitions include: Inherent Structures, Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH; Made in L.A., Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the 2014 Whitney Biennial, Whitney Museum of American Art, NY. Morris is a recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, The Louis Comfort Tiffany Award, and The California Community Foundation Fellowship for Visual Arts, among other awards. She is represented by Regen Projects, Los Angeles; Bortolami, New York; Corbett vs. Dempsey, Chicago; and Trautwein Herleth, Berlin, Germany. She is a Professor of Painting and Drawing in the Department of Art at UCLA. Learn more about her work: @mrs.Kozaki.

ICI Welcomes new Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Community Partnership & Director of SGISD, Dr. S. Tiffany Donaldson
As an institute within the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development (SGISD), we are deeply honored and excited to announce that Dr. S. Tiffany Donaldson will begin her new role in the College of Education and Human Development as Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Community Partnerships and Director of the School for SGISD this fall! Dr. Donaldson joins us from UMass Boston, where she served as Professor of Psychology in the Psychology Department and Honors College for the past 26 years.
In 1993, Dr. Donaldson received her PhD with Distinction in Psychology from Northeastern University with concentrations in Neuroscience and Psychopharmacology. In her two-and-a-half-decade tenure at UMass Boston, Dr. Donaldson has led initiatives focused on anti-racist practices and developed expertise in three main areas:
1. Securing funding to support Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) research trainees. Dr. Donaldson has led many National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded initiatives that have trained BIPOC and Deaf and hard of hearing scholars who are traditionally underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines. She secured funding from the Department of Education and from various foundations to operate a multi-summer, hands-on Science Literacy Camp at low- to no-cost for BIPOC students in Boston Public Schools. She was awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Service for this outreach.
2. Training faculty on anti-racist mentorship practices. Dr. Donaldson has trained over 250 undergraduates and has trained/co-mentored more than 10 graduate students. She received training from the NIH-funded National Research Mentoring Network as a Mentor Trainer in 2016. Since that time, she has hosted mentor training sessions across UMass Boston, the Commonwealth, and for multiple nationwide public and private institutions promoting evidence-based mentoring practices for the social and behavioral and biomedical sciences, emphasizing anti-racist and reflective diversity and equity practices. She was also recently awarded the Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Teaching for her commitment and dedication to mentoring students and faculty.
3. Conducting community-engaged participatory research on evidence-based interventions in BIPOC communities. Dr. Donaldson has encouraged a broader view of health career trajectory for BIPOC students at UMass Boston, including public health and community based participatory research in their communities. As the co-director of the Outreach Core of the U54 UMass Boston Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Partnership, Dr. Donaldson has worked in Lawrence, MA and around greater Boston with community- and faith-based organizations to adapt evidenced-based interventions to address inequities in cancer burden. In these settings, she has trained UMass Boston undergraduates in using community-based participatory research principles. She also helped to develop a Science Café format to share science outside of the academy to foster relationships and connections in the community.
As SGISD’s new Director, Dr. Donaldson aspires to learn more through conversations and shared spaces to support the existing work and to encourage further inclusion of marginalized BIPOC communities in this ongoing work. Dr. Donaldson has collaborated with graduate students, faculty, and staff from SGISD on NIH and National Cancer Institute-funded participatory action research in BIPOC communities. Through these partnerships and collaborations, she has learned about research and the global and inclusive work of SGISD programs, the Asian American Studies Program, the Institute for New England Native American Studies, and the ICI.
Dr. Donaldson is impressed with the anti-racist work the SGISD community has begun and the commitment to diversity and inclusion. She is excited to highlight the research, community partnerships, and innovation of SGISD, and partner to extend the work.
Welcome, Dr. S. Tiffany Donaldson!
Learn more about Dr. Donaldson and her work in UMass Boston’s Behavioral Psychopharmacology Neuroscience Lab.

Through these partnerships and collaborations, she has learned about research and the global and inclusive work of SGISD programs, the Asian American Studies Program, the Institute for New England Native American Studies, and the Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI).
Dr. Donaldson is impressed with the anti-racist work the SGISD community has begun and the commitment to diversity and inclusion. She is excited to highlight the research, community partnerships, and innovation of SGISD, and partner to extend the work.

Henry Mancini
Henry Mancini was an American composer, conductor, arranger, pianist and flutist. Often cited as one of the greatest composers in the history of film, he won four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. His works include the theme and soundtrack for the Peter Gunn television series, as well as the music for The Pink Panther film series ("The Pink Panther Theme") and "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's. The Music from Peter Gunn, Mr. Lucky, won the inaugural Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Mancini enjoyed a long collaboration in composing film scores for the film director Blake Edwards. Mancini also scored a No. 1 hit single during the rock era on the Hot 100: his arrangement and recording of the "Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet" spent two weeks at the top, starting with the week ending June 28, 1969. In 1996, the Henry Mancini Institute, an academy for young music professionals, was founded by Jack Elliott in Mancini's honor, and was later under the direction of composer-conductor Patrick Williams. By the mid-2000s, however, the institute could not sustain itself and closed its doors on December 30, 2006. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Foundation "Henry Mancini Music Scholarship" has been awarded annually since 2001. In 2005, the Henry Mancini Arts Academy was opened as a division of the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center. The center is located in Midland, Pennsylvania, minutes away from Mancini's hometown of Aliquippa. The Henry Mancini Arts Academy is an evening-and-weekend performing arts program for children from pre-K to grade 12, with some classes also available for adults. The program includes dance, voice, musical theater, and instrumental lessons. The American Film Institute ranked Mancini's songs "Moon River" No. 4 and "Days of Wine and Roses" No. 39 on their list of the greatest songs, and his score for The Pink Panther No. 20 on their list of the greatest film scores. His scores for Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), Charade (1963), Hatari! (1962), Touch of Evil (1958) and Wait Until Dark (1967) were also nominated for the list.
