[T-12-15-20]: The Croods: A New Age movie!!! "B4 getting into this review i gotta say that this movie is similar with my Frozen 1 & 2 experience in that i never seen the 1st Croods movie yet just watched the 2nd one. I know. I know. Hashtag: that's a me problem! XD" Now the review. The Croods: A New Age movie is....funny, adventurous, fun, and pretty amazing in its storytelling. There r so many layers to this film and plot twists that im having a hard time to pin it to 1 theme. BUT! if i must, in short this movie is about family, teen love, adventures, smart jokes and laugh out moments that will carry u through the film. Movie is visually impressive! The story was really good. The multiple plot twists were crazy! The emphasis that its about family sticking together & being stronger together really shines here. Loved all the characters even the "villains". Everything i wanna talk about is spoiler stuff, so i will end it here. The Croods: A New Age is a great film for the family. U will laugh, cheer and have a good time all around. PS: it's super lame that COVID-19 is still a thing cuz that definitely will mess people coming to see this awesome film. Dang. PS2: Shout out to the Thunder Sisters in this movie! Kicking butt and taking names. I probably shouldnt end this post with that but it messes with the flow, no? Not really? Oh okay. Later everyone. okay so i finally finished the croods 2

and that was good!! i REALLY enjoyed it and found myself laughing a lot. and alongside that, i think they included the serious and/or emotional moments really smoothly, done in a way that didn’t break the feel of what was going on while still letting you know it was a Serious Moment™️.

i like the complexity of the bettermans, especially hope and phil. and i really liked their dynamic with the croods.

and while i would still say i liked the first one more (maybe it’s just nostalgia glasses, who knows), something this one did that i actually liked more than the first is that it felt like everybody had their OWN character arcs and personalities. (**Light Spoiler Territory - nothing specific just vague stuff**) ugga had her own issues going on with hope, dawn with being sheltered, gran and her past as a thundersister chief(???), phil and his self imposed isolation, and etc. (**End of Light Spoilers**) they all had their own storylines and subplots going on. it didn’t center around only two or three people, but they all got their own time in the spotlight. i really liked that.

all in all, i really enjoyed it.

i think one of my very few grievances would probably be that they really did just throw out the first movie’s ending and ignored it entirely. i already talked abt the clothes and the croods still being considered cavepeople, and about the missing other pets since the croods had adopted others besides chunky. (the post linked is pre-movie and based only on the first trailer so some of the things on there i don’t think anymore). and i was able to kinda look past those things and they didn’t even bother me that much throughout the movie.

it just came back like a hit in the face tho when at the end sandy said “boomsies”, which was so cute, until grug said it was her first word. sandy’s first word was “dada”, when she grabbed grug’s nose at the end of the first movie when he was sacrificing himself. like, her saying boomsies and it reminding grug that he still does have other kids and is still A Dad™️ was so heart warming, but saying it was her first word threw me for a loop since it canonly isnt. it kinda just confirmed that they really did just throw the first ending out the window.

but yeah, i really liked the movie and had a good time watching it

Episode 1: In which I write about the mother of THUNDERSHIELD having too many babies.

So, I just started reading a book about this dude named Thundersheild. No, really. He got to pick his name and that is what he chose and it is awesome. Tordenskjold in the original Norwegian/Danish. Which, honestly, rolls off of the tongue better (TOOR-den-sholl). You could also say Shield of Thunder, they are both acceptable translations, but I like how Thundershield reminds me of Thundersisters and makes a great battle cry.

Anyway, he is, like, the best Scandinavian naval hero of all time, and I gotta say, he didn't fall far from the tree. Not because there were ANY other military heroes, naval or otherwise, in his family (maybe there were? I am in chapter one, guys), but because him mom was badass.

This woman had 18 kids. EIGHTEEN. Eighteen. 18. Like...let that sink in. She married at 15 and had 18 kids. If you assume an average of 18 months between the birth of each kid (baby is 9 months, time to make another!), she stopped having kids at around 42 after 27 years. Plus another year or two of nursing. Like....what. I've GOT kids, I KNOW what that is like. Just surviving that many births is impressive.

But what astounds me even more is that this woman did not then succumb to vitimin deficiency/exhaustion/sleep loss after 18 pregnancies and infants, or even whatever usually killed people in 1700s (smallpox? taburculosis? plague?), but she went on to be 86. IN THE 1700S. WHAT?! I mean, they clearly had plenty of food, but those are some good genes. 86 is like Methuselah back then.

At some point Tordensjold's dad's ship sinks at sea and he ends up in France. I am going to quote here (translation is my own). "When the good Frenchmen heard that he was the father of 18 children, they were so impressed by his skill that they took up a collection" to send him home. "Whether the Frenchmen also valued the *mother's* work to put these 18 children into the world, [Tordensjold's father] has not related to posterity."

I get the impression that the author is just as impressed (terrified? astounded?) as I am.

So yeah. She was badass.

P.S. The book is called Torsenskjold and it is by Thorleif Dahl and I have no idea if it is still in print. Also I haven't checked. Also it is written in Norwegian.

28. Describe a smell that reminds your Tav of childhood.

Coren: The smell of baked goods and "outside" reminds her of following Ma'na around her house. Helping forage food and playing with her goat. The sea air obviously reminds her of being on the ocean, and freedom.

6. How would the player go about meeting them in Act 1? What is their introduction?

Coren: Farther down the beach from Shadowheart, Coren can be found cliff side cornered by two water elementals that were accidently summoned during her fall from the Nautiloid. The player could choose to help her fight off the water elementals, she would be thankful and offer to follow them to the Grove, or the player can ask her to join the party and she'll agree to help them. If the player chooses not to help her she'll eventually appear at the Grove with the other tieflings.
