does this feeling go both ways ? ⸻ part two ⋮ the notes .
see  i  didn’t  realize  i  had  written  almost  5k  words  in  a  blur  over  the  past  few  days  like  u  couldn’t  even  get  me  to  write  an  essay  this  quickly  !!  i  blame  lando  norris,  the  bolter  by  taylor  swift,  and  the  constant  rotation  of  me  bingeing  little  women  2019  and  the  2017  miniseries  (which  i  think  has  the  best  iteration  of  meg  and  lesbian  jo  but  i  digress!)
anyways  these  r  just  my  notes.  i  love  to  yap  about  my  writing  !! read chapter two here !!
Tumblr media
yes,  the  inspirations  are  very  much  both  the  little  women  2019  and  the  2017  miniseries.  you’ll  see  more  of  the  miniseries’  influences  i  think  in  the  following  chapters.
you  get  to  meet  the  rest  of  the  sisters!  when  i  said  egregious  little  women  reference,  i  fr  meant  egregious  little  women  references.  obviously  u  don’t  have  to  follow  but  in  my  headspace,  maggie  is  22  (she’s  their  half-sister  in  my  head!!  which  is  why  she’s  so  much  older  than  the  other  girls),  josie  is  15,  beverly  is  13,  and  y/n  is  12.  i  do  have  a  fc  in  mind  for  y/n  but  i’m  gatekeeping  her  for  now–  totally  irrelevant  to  the  plot  at  hand,  though.  i  just  like  imagining  someone  there.
despite  having  a  written  outline  for  this,  i  have  to  admit  that  i  am  a  pantser,  so  if  u  see  anything  off  with  the  timeline…  that’s  on  #me
i  chose  2014  specifically  because  it  had  a  timeline  i  could  easily  follow??  i  would  have  gone  with  karting  but  i  could  not  find  any  stats  on  that,  so  the  2014  ginetta  junior  championship  it  is!  which  honestly  worked  out  better  for  me  because  the  race  y/n’s  family  goes  to  is  in  hampshire,  around  a  2-ish  hour  drive  from  glastonbury.  i  don’t  think  i  mentioned  it  in  the  fic  but  lando’s  car  was  retired  on  the  first  round,  but  he  did  manage  to  cross  the  finish  line  on  the  second  round  of  the  race  at  thruxton! i found no mention of where he placed so i made it vague in the fic too ...
non-linear  timelines  are  a  bitch  to  map  out  and  i  have  nobody  else  to  blame  but  myself,  but  i  do  try  and  put  a  reference  to  the  previous  ‘segment’  as  much  as  i  can??  idk  i  shall  leave  u  all  to  guess  that  but  i  think  my  favorite  one  is  my  attempt  to  kind  of.  channel  the  cool-warm  color  grading  of  the  2019  movie  vis-a-vis  the  contrast  of  y/n  waking  up  in  the  first  then  segment  (smth  smth  made  of  the  memories  of  warmth)  vs.  y/n  waking  up  alone  to  a  grey  morning  in  the  now  segment.
i  am  not,  and  i  repeat,  i  am  not  an  engineering  girlie,  so  literally  anything  relating  to  machinery/cars/engines  or  whatever  are  an  amalgamation  of  things  i’ve  read  in  old  forums  and  comments  section.
that  being  said,  i  did  do  some  research  re:  the  magazines  and  whatever  y/n  and  lando  were  talking  about  in  the  second  then  segment!  while  it  was  called  f1  racing  in  2014,  it  eventually  became  gp  racing  in  2020,  which,  at  the  start  of  this  year,  merged  with  autosport  and  i  think  they  do  monthly  releases  now  as  opposed  to  weekly.  racecar  engineering  is  still  around  iirc.
y/n  gets  super  excited  because  in  2014,  the  fia  introduced  advanced  hybrid  power  units,  replacing  the  old  KER  system.  2014  also  introduced  us  to  mercedes  pioneering  the  split  turbocharger  concept,  which  separated  the  turbo’s  hot  and  cold  sides,  which  in  turn  meant  that  the  teams  could  shrink  the  intercooler,  which  greatly  improved  the  car’s  cooling  system.
again  i  am  not  an  engineering  girlie.  i  might  have  gotten  everything  all  off  when  it  comes  to  the  technical  side  of  things.  pls  forgive  me  i  am  doing  my  best  research  😭  anyways  i  hope  u  enjoyed  me  yapping.  unfortunately  there’s  a  lot  more  where  this  came  from.
