I think the reason the phrase âtransandrophobia trutherâ gets all seven of my goats is just that⊠Iâve studied conspiracy theories and why they arise and how they work, so itâs really weird to me to read someone responding to the claim âIâm oppressedâ with âyou made that up.â
The thing with conspiracy theories is that most of us canât actually prove them wrong. I donât actually know for certain that 9/11 wasnât an inside job. I wasnât there. I am not a spy with a high security clearance.
Similarly, I canât prove that no one kills kids for adrenochrome. Itâs just too possible that someone exists out there who kills kids that I havenât met, because I havenât met everyone ever, and definitely havenât met all the people in the world who have enough power in society to abduct kids to check theyâre not eating them.
So how do I know Q lied? Because in order for the things Q says to be true, thereâs a whole bunch of other stuff that would also have to be true to make it work. Powerful people would at some point drop hints. There might not be evidence of what happened exactly, but thereâd be evidence something did and it would look strange.
Like when Matt Gaetz kept venmoing money to pretty young girls to pay for their tuition. Are any of us certain he had sex with them? Do we have video or something?
I donât. I just have âfrom what weâve seen this man say about sex, his lack of consistent concern for tuition prices for people who arenât his type, and someone saying âhey I did this,â itâs vastly more likely he wasnât just giving away tuiton money.â
So we know Qanon is bullshit because we know a lot of things would have to be true to make it work that arenât.
So along come some people who look at trans men saying âwe are oppressedâ and say ânot only do I have an argument by which thatâs false, but itâs so clearly false I donât even have to know about your experiences to say so. In order for you to be oppressed, a whole bunch of profoundly unlikely things would have to all be true at once.â
Who the hell SAYS this to someone who says âIâm hurting?â

PART THREE (the girls are fightingggg edition)
hickory: lovably vulgar internet grandpa (he thinks that title is concerning) who doesnt have all the right lingo but his hearts always in the right place. "if i can be a country troll raised yodeller then who cares if sam wants to be sally and sally wants to be sam". dickory is addicted to trolltube shorts conspiracy theories and wants his brother to take the red pill
branch (part 2): a misunderstanding involving hickorys (crude) tweets in favour of gay rights and branchs infamous butter fingers leads people to now think branch broke up with poppy bc hes is exclusively into men.
branch: floyd the entire internet thinks i broke up with poppy bc im gay what do i do floyd: floyd: i have a couple exs i can introduce you to- branch: NOT WHAT I MEANT.
poppy clarifies "lay off him, hes a lesbian" forgetting that she was supposed to hate him rn and also that he hadnt come out publicly yet. theres a lot of tweets saying some variation of "how can a MAN be a LESBIAN" (missing the point) and branch (tipsy) (life falling apart) (being egged on by floyd and jd) qrts on main with "bruh". barb takes the opportunity to tweet something awful which gets her SOME flack but also a lot of people admitting you "gotta hand it to her, she was making points" and floyd reads out select tweets from the "barb" trending page the next morning while branch nurses a massive headache and jd is on a breakfast run. this is happening concurrently with clay and bruce accusing him of cheating with viva btw, so the insistence he likes women comes back to bite him in the ass.
hickory vs barbtwt: barb has a field day with this convoluted lesbian homosexual gay man drama. hickory qrts (he doesnt know how to reply) one of her tweets with "you seem like a young woman who has never felt the cool breeze on your face as you hike up to the tallest point for miles just to watch the sunset, and my heart aches for you. i hope one day you find the beauty that surrounds us all" and three days later TMZ reports on barb being in rehab. he waxes poetic about how life is too short for all this vitriol and barbtwt flood his notifications with photos of dead goats, which dont affect him bc he has "seen worse when them old fences fall and the wolves get in". he doesnt tweet for a week and a half after that and barbtwt think "we got him đȘ" and people who were on hickorys side begin to get worried about him until he posts a photo of him having dinner with his family (spouse, a few children, one of their pet goats, his brother might also be there i guess) captioned #blessed, cementing his victory in the idgaf war
clay (part 2): out of context quoted saying something he intended to be a teasing joke that viva was in on. This ended up being his second cancellation and third time throwing viva under the bus to save his own skin. Viva has had enough
Viva: internet famous podcaster with guest stars including chaz and (former) King peppy. Uploads a 35 mimute response video entitled "My Side of the Story" to her podcasts official trolltube channel detailing her experiences with clay, branch and poppy. It is monetised with several midroll ads and her merch linked in the description. She is doing her makeup throughout the video. A half hour after her video drops the trending tab is dominated by clay and vivas names, "CLIVA DEAD", "gaslighting", "WE'RE SORRY VIVA" and "#thicktrunkthursday" (unrelated). Clay is kicked out of his and vivas pod so he has to sleep on a sofa in branchs bunker. Floyd tweets #istandwithviva so clay demands the ÂŁ50 he loaned him three months ago. Floyd is the next guest on vivas podcast and (accidentally?) reignites the homophobia allegations against clay while simultaneously becoming vivas GBF and (briefly) new cohost (he still guest stars a lot but viva noticed that people were starting to call it "Floyd's podcast" so she nipped that in the bud)
Brozone (and friends (and enemies)) twitter drama au
Collaborative between me and @squirrelpatties. Truly our magnum opus
Jd: previously a frequent twitter e-clown infamous for name searching and starting beef with people who insulted him. His fanbase thought it was hilarious in a "grandpa escaped the hospital" way. Eventually was forced to relinquish control of @/brojohndoryofficial to his pr manager (clay) after he responded to 14 y/o @/j0ndryballzweat.
Floyd (part 1): his sex tape (with a fan he didnt know was a fan but thats hardly relevant) gets leaked. For the first three days everyone's timeline was full of "do NOT share it around, dont even look for it, if someone sends it to you IGNORE it, this is a disgusting breach of privacy" until Floyd addresses it by tweeting "decided to put on a different kind of show for you guys" and all hell breaks loose. Every tweets hidden replies are full of screencaps and reuploads for a month. People edit the video so just before anything explicit happens it's replaced by a video game cutscene or meme, which Floyd retweets a lot of. His brothers ask him to stop (both for publicity and bc it makes them uncomfortable) so he starts posting thirst traps on insta. Clay yells at him so Floyd tweets "clay just asked when I'm gonna get a girlfriend :/" which brings us to-
Clay: homophobia allegations. Admittedly the least serious and would have blown over quickly if it weren't for him panic tweeting "I'm not homophobic! My girlfriend is a bi lesbian!" People were NOT happy. It takes him three days of retweeting 'helpful educational threads and carrds' on lesbianism written by 14 y/os for people to get off his back. Viva understands.
Bruce: stays off social media bc its the mind killer so he lets clay take care of @/brobruceofficial. This goes well until clay gets drunk and thinks he's on his private account but is actually on Bruce's public. When he wakes up (hungover) in the morning hes got Bruce banging on his door asking why TMZ is reporting on him cheating on his wife. Bruce tells him to clear things up but clay JUST got the lesbians off his back and can't afford to be back in the hotseat...
Branch and poppy: branch was annoyed by all the branch/poppy rpf fanfic (poppy likes them bc she thinks they're cute and funny. When brozone go on tour she reads the smutty ones) so he suggested to poppy that they stage a fake breakup. Poppy is initially against the idea until branch brings up how much fun itd be to sneak around like a couple of teenagers. Poppy scrapbooks the tabloids about their breakup. Clay and Bruce blame clays drunken tweets on branch so clay seems like the victim. Poppy acknowledges this on twitter in a way that very heavily implies they broke up bc branch was cheating on her with her own sister. Viva does not understand. This one doesn't have a resolution yet bc we moved onto:
Barb: previous lesbian icon turned reactionary transphobe. Riff stopped associating with her once she started getting really public with it and now she keeps tweeting stuff like "you-know-who left me just to work with misogynists. Really makes you think đ€ " which he ignores.
Riff: while still working with barb he was approached to collab with creek (damage control for the... unsavoury things he said about rock trolls). The second the song released he tweeted "wow that guy was an asshole LOL" bc he didn't realise he wasn't supposed to do that. Cut contact with barb once her transphobia went from "mild, I can fix her" to "jesus fucking christ". Briefly worked with Floyd until his second controversy at which point riff tweeted "cmon, man" and turned off his phone. Riff hasn't done anything wrong and he deserves a lot better
Velvet: crafted the perfect expose thread on Floyd when she was in prison, including "pro life" "publicly sharing inappropriate sexual content" and "uses the toothpaste flag". Posts it the second she gets let out of prison and instantly becomes #1 on trending (alongside "floyd" "pro life" and "#HUGS4CLAY).
Floyd (part 2): tweets "why does it even matter that I'm pro life if I'm gay and don't 'believe' in 'voting'" before doing another line off his boyfriends torso. People bring his leaked nudes back up and start insulting his dick size and its the first time hes ever let a controversy bother him. His next tweet is "I am not ashamed of my body" and the top reply (creek pfp) is "you should be â€". Clay is biting the skin off his own tongue.

More Ghost Headcanons/Conspiracies: Special Ghoul edition!
Disclaimer: These are my different thoughts on the identity of Special Ghoul (even though we all know that itâs actually Tyrannosaurus Ford) in my âuniverseâ
 1. Note this one is kind of tough to get into words so maybe someone could help me make this one more articulate/concrete? Swiss is the second special ghoul or they are one and the same. Okay, before I go any further letâs note that in IRL âSpecialâ does nearly all of Ghostâs vocals and instruments behind the scenes. The same could be said for Swiss except on a small scale and only for live performances ex: Swiss does backing vocals, guitar, tambourine, and drumming(?). Anyways, it would make sense of someone like this that has a variety of rolls in the band to be categorized as a whole other type of ghoul not just Earth or Air hence the title of âSpecial Ghoulâ. But hereâs where the plot hole comes in: in interviews from Era II Special has the fire symbol highlighted on his sash indicating that he is in fact a fire ghoul. On the other hand, Special disappeared off the face of the Earth after the Papas died and then Swiss appeared possibly indicating a place for him in the band or a replacement.
2. Special Ghoul is the one who actually pulls the strings. By this I mean heâs the one who assassinated the Papas. I know that in the chapter video were we see Terzo and company get yeeted, the ghoul that administers the syringe wears a Prequelle era mask but Speicalâs mask has also changed throughout the various eras, so it is plausible that it is him. Unfortunately, this is the only âevidenceâ I have so it isnât that strong.
3. Cardinal Copia is actually Speical. This one isnât that good of a theory either because firstly, they have different accents as well as Special missing the âevil eyeâ (even though we know now that the white eye doesnât have to be inherited). Aside from this I feel that Special and the Cardinal have something in common: Resenting the Papas. For example Special mentioned that Secundo mistreated the ghouls and Copia was constantly being put down by Nihil in the chapter videos. And as previously mentioned Special disappeared when the Prequelle era hit so this could indicate that Special dropped his position as ghoul to lead. This also includes the hinting that Copia isnât part of the Emeritus blood line and could have obtained the eye from Sister so it doesnât rule out the possibility of a Ghoul being the front man.
4. Special Ghoul was there from the beginning. This one is short and really only superficial speculation. In the music video for âKiss the Go-Goatâ there is speculation that one of the ghouls is Tyrannosaurus which, again, in the canon universe is Special so he could have originally been one of Nihilâs Ghouls but for some reason was switched out to do PR work for the band when Nihilâs sons came into power.
Thanks for reading! Lemme know if I should change something or have other theories!

ok lets picture this
you know what a goat looks like, you can google one, youll see how they act if you went to a farm once, or even just a video, theres information about goats all over with just a simple read!
you decide to go watch a movie, its a movie about a goat, its supposed to be realistic for the most part, even if its larger narrative could be supernatural!
the movie decides to show ârealisticâ goat behavior, the movie instead, says that goats are omnivores for some reason, you wonder what does that accomplish, maybe its this specific goat ? Not only does it says this, it says that goats are able to eat human flesh if they wanted to, that goats should be away from others and tamed and teach them to be obligate herbivores for the sake of everyones safety.
you think ânow this is just ridiculous, goats are already herbivores! they arent Tamed into it, and they would never eat human flesh.â , the goat in the movie proceeds to show a goat wanting to attack and eat a human, you leave the movie after an anticlimactic twist that left you more laughing than genuinely interested.
âWho would ever think this is a realistic representation of goats?â
you talk to your friends, and low n behold, everyone starts believing goats are dangerous omnivores, maybe not the Man eater thing, but they already were concerned about goats, and now they straight up would call the police if they saw a goat, theres conspiracy theories that all goats are being systematically âtamedâ to not fall onto their blood thirsting desires.
the world today is just a bit more merciless about a simple and mostly harmless animal.
So, you experienced a lot of trauma as a child. Your mind has fragmented into alters to protect the body and mind and cope with the abuse.
You go and try to see a movie about someone like yourself. The movie is supposed to show ârealisticâ behavior, even with a supernatural twist and narrative!
After the movie, the world today is just even more merciless about a personality disorder that can be researched so easily.

Has everyone asked you about Jupiter Ascending?
@godzillaapproved
Yo, I ought to apologize to you for taking hella long to properly respond to this. Itâs holiday season over thisaway, sure, but I ainât nearly vain enough to assume just anybody gets why that can suck up a dudeâs time. Reckon Iâm sure thereâs tons of national celebrations all over the world Iâd never know about otherwise. Bah, I say! Going out and socializing is one of the few things more overrated than all those shitty Apple products. But yeh, in my case it was less the celebratory spirit of holiday festivities and more a sudden spike in workload, so my mental energy was roughed up by that, plus I was doing a new workout at the same time. Thus, whatever free time I had left was spent obsessively hammering away at the Steam sale items Iâd recently bought. Itâs like a coping mechanism. Well, that and cheap wine anyhow.
Regardless, regardlessâholy shit what an obnoxious fucking way for me to open this upâthis Ask of yours came at an unusually coincidental time. A friend and I have been meeting up every weekend to watch like semi-recent crappy movies just as a way to enjoy a bad drink and a good laugh. She likes to laugh, and I like to drink, so it works out. After working our way through every Transformers film by Michael Bay, then Cameronâs Avatar, Terminator: Genisys, The Amazing Spider-mans, Spielbergâs Crystal Skull, Ready Player One, and some of the more abysmal DC films, our last escapade into nonsense was the estimably hilarious Gods of Egypt, which reminded me of one of those excremental quicktime-event video games. You know, like Detroit Becomes Human or some shit like that (Oh wait, is it Detroit Coming of the Humans? Meh).
As luck would have it, like, the day before you asked me about it, the next film at which I suggested we take a crack was the Wachowskisâ own Jupiter Ascending, which my friend had not seen at that time. Nor had I, since first viewing it in theaters.
>>SPOILER WARNING: IF YOU CARE ENOUGH TO, UH⊠YOU KNOW, CARE
I was intrigued to give this movie another go. Itâs struck me that Iâve got an odd streak of pleasantly enjoying movies a lot of people canât seem to stand, or which some people even hate with utter vileness on the verge of hunting down the producers with a roll of duct tape, power tools, jugs of petrol, and a matchbook. Iâve enjoyed, for instance, Hardcore Henry, Elysium, and Joseph Kosinskiâs Oblivion, all of which not one person I know in real life could offer a single word of kindness. After my first viewing of Jupiter Ascending, I was left to consider whether or not it was the sort of movie I should enjoy and allow others to hate and disparage, or if it just wasnât that good. I recalled leaving the theater with a sort of âHmâ sound, and not much else. But given my history with rooting for an underdog, was I wrong? Is this movie actually good, or cool in some way? I couldnât defy the sensation that Iâd missed something.
The answer, it seems, is more complex than a simple yes or no. Then again, as Mason and Goat Han Solo often remind us, âthereâs no nuance on the internetâ, so even my assertion there about complexity may be in gross error.
For the unfamiliar, Jupiter Ascending is a science fiction tale with vibes of less-clichĂ© aesthetic choices for its visuals, some cool references to UFO conspiracy theories, and aims at a more expansive universe that would no doubt have been further explored in sequels had this film been better received by audiences and critics. Iâll say outright, itâs a disappointment to me that we werenât given the chance to see more films in this mythology, because thereâs some really cool stuff going on in this weird, imaginative universe. The story centers upon the character of Jupiter Jones (Mila Kunis), an average working-class young woman in Chicago who is shocked to discover not only that aliens exist but that she happens to be the reincarnation of a galaxy owning empress, which entitles Jupiter to ownership of a large portion of the cosmos, the least part of which is Earth itself. But as the Aussies say, somethingâs a bit suss about the whole affair, and the wondrous glamour of this technologically advanced universe is concurrently party to a dark truth.
An immediately intriguing element of Jupiter Ascending is its attempt to set-up something which, while perhaps greatly inspired by a few other fictional works, is an original property, not a sequel, reboot, adaptation of an existing work, nor a spiritual successor to something else. Rather than merely being intrigued by this fact, I also respect it, because high-concept science fiction films arenât something a studio likes to go for unless they have a preexisting audience, like adaptations of a book series or something. So itâs always bold when someone can cobble together the resources to really take a chance on something like this, even if it isnât well received. After all thatâs how films like The Matrix, The Terminator, Ridley Scottâs Alien, George Lucasâ Star Wars, and John McTiernanâs Predator come to be in the first place. Another example, I didnât quite enjoy The Last Witch Hunter, but I recall respecting that filmâs risk in its attempt at a new property for similar reasons.
Irrespective of your own personal tastes as a moviegoer and consumer of science fiction, it canât be denied that the Wachowskiâs are measurably talented filmmakers. Their doubtless skill at framing shots, blending effects with reality to present an integrated experience, and choreographing action sequences with such lethal precision itâs always incredible to watch; all of these things canât be argued, and this attentiveness for the craft is all very present in Jupiter Ascending. Toward the beginning of the movie, thereâs an aerial chase sequence that promptly accelerates into one of the most engaging, gripping action sequences in memory, heavily fantastical sci-fi elements intermixed with almost Fast and the Furious levels of insanity. The sense of gripping speed alone as two characters cling to the outer hull of a spacecraft was helplessly intense and left me quite keen to see what else the movie had to offer further down the line.
Additionally we have some awesome art design and stylistic choices regarding the look of this sci-fi universe, both the appearance of aliens and the design of their technology was familiar and unique at the same time. There are beings referred to as âSplicesâ which are intermixes of humans and various animals, giving some people bestial characteristics which are just weird enough to be cool to me without verging over the edge into absurd territory. There are cybernetic enhancements, gravity boots, phalanx style energy shields, neural synthetic wings, motherfucking jet-bikes of course and, though I never would have dreamed, motherfucking lizardmen! That blew me away, dude. Others may think itâs stupid, but lizardmen are one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy creatures of all time, and they look so badass in this movie it was unbelievably awesome to realize I was actually seeing a proper lizardfolk on screen. With lizardmen and jet-bikes, Jupiter Ascending quickly marks two-out-of-five on my Generally Awesome Things I Like To See In Science Fiction list. Itâs a real list, in my head, I swear.
The starship designs were inspired by art deco architecture in cities like Chicago, lending Jupiterâs cosmos a feeling more of Herbertâs Dune-iverse than something like Star Trek, which I appreciated since we donât see that type of style quite as much. Top all that off with a fantastic score from Michael Giacchino and youâve got some great tools to tell an awesome story.
So the thing is, itâs not just skin deep either, while the film does lean heavily on its visuals and action set-pieces, this is a genuinely interesting universe. Michael Bayâs Transformers, for instance, also has cool visuals, some passable action scenes, and dazzling special effects, but is it interesting? The answer is no. Because Bayâs movies, while briefly entertaining, are ultimately hollow. There arenât any subdermal layers beneath the facade of spectacle. But in Jupiter Aescending thereâs clearly something else going on, the touch of true filmmakers for one, yet also the potential for so much more. The groundwork, the craftsmanship and attentiveness is all here. Itâs really what they choose to do, or not do, with that potential which ends up disappointing. Not, as in the case of Bayâs movies, the utter lack of potential for greatness from the start.
Though some fandom-card carrying ideologues may acerbically disagree, an acceptably comparable film whose potential for greatness was also mostly wasted for middle-of-the-road mediocrity is the recent Solo: A Star Wars Story, by Disney Interactiveâ I mean, by Disney behind the appropriated guise of Lucasfilm. Whatever else you think of that film, and while I agree from a mythological standpoint its very existence was in extremely poor taste, the talent, the production value, the mark of the craft was there. None of this was, however, capitalized upon to create anything truly profound. Jupiter Ascendingâs unfortunate drawbacks are of a similar form.
Iâd like to state emphatically however, Iâm not trying to punish the film nor act as its apologist. Reckon I always end up saying this, but I am really just some dude. Sure, I read a lot of books and stuff, but that doesnât appoint me some grand authority on the subject of fiction. These thoughts I try to convey in my write-ups are meant merely as opinions, framed in the form of investigating the quality of a film or game or whatever. To that end, Iâm compelled to side with most folks in that, whatever else its got going for it, thereâs some major deficiency holding back Jupiter Ascending from rising to a higher form of entertainment. So if the production values are high, whereâs the casus belli all the angry critics are seeing here?
To puzzle that out, we ought first to determine by what criterion a truly good story is shaped. In that regard itâs likely the wisest to begin by reckoning what sort of story weâre dealing with here. Most people are wont to jump straight to the whole Heroâs Journey every dickhead YouTube reviewer read about in some sparknotes book while using the shitter at Barnes & Noble. But Joseph Campbellâs mimetic architecture isnât the only sort of story that exists, not even in science fiction. Consider, for instance, anything written by H.P. Lovecraft, Darren Aronofskyâs The Fountain, Kubrick and Clarkeâs 2001: A Space Odyssey, Jonathan Glazerâs Under The Skin, Philip K. Dickâs various works, Andrei Tarkovskyâs Stalker, StanisĆaw Lemâs Solaris, Alex Garlandâs Ex Machina, or Christopher Nolanâs Interstellar. These stories, while very sci-fi in their scope and measure, are far more introspective, and very contemplative when contrasted against fiction of the more traditional heroic adventure genre. Hell, even Paul Verhoevenâs Starship Troopers while appearing a mindless war movie on its surface is fundamentally a cautionary allegory. While conquering adversity is certainly a theme of its own within each of these stories, the breadth of that adversityâs effect on the narrative varies wildly, as well as the nature of adversity each character must face. Other heavier components, like displacement, post-humanism, philosophical allegory, are also usually present in such stories.
All of this likely seems a bit excessive to point out, but I promise itâll get relevant later. But, uh⊠yeh. The next time some liberal arts asshat tries to tell you thereâs only one real way a story can go, you can be safely justified in telling them to get bent. I mean read, yeh, tell them to read more shit, and watch more movies. Thatâd probably be more productive. But also tell them to get bent, the fuckers.
There can also, however, be stories that blend styles. The 2004 rebrand of Battlestar Galactica incorporates several philosophical elements, self-reflective, and meditative thematic ideas into its narrative of what would otherwise be a fairly standard science fiction conflict in outer space. The Wachowskisâ own The Matrix is a perfect example of a classic heroâs journey which also incorporates introspective themes into its lore, plot, and mythology, wherein the internal conflict of the protagonist is just as important as whatever external adversity he is meant to overcome. Where Battlestar Galactica 2004 uses its thematic material to craft a sci-fi adventure story, The Matrix uses a sci-fi adventure story to explore its thematic material. Seen in that light, I think the Wachowskis wanted Jupiter Ascending to have similar weight to its narrative, but they ended up recycling a sort of âhuman harvestâ idea already seen in The Matrix (and arguably done in a more engaging way).
Jupiter Jones herself is a catalyst for an inter-familial conflict within a wealthy interstellar hierarchy. Though alien races do exist, the most dangerous aliens happen to be humans themselves, extraterrestrial humans of course. In Jupiterâs universe, it turns out that the wealthy and powerful have the ability to live forever (an idea also explored in the Neftlix adaptation Altered Carbon), but only by seeding countless worlds with humans, then harvesting these humans like crops and breaking these millions of people down into a sort of primordial youth serum by which the lives of the affluent may be extended.
Advanced genetics in Jupiterâs universe are the highest form of technology, and it is stated in all the cosmos the most sought-after resource is time. This is the reason these advanced humans out among the stars are able to splice human and animal genes, essentially creating entirely new races, and the reason why Jupiter herself is seen as a reincarnation of a woman who once owned countless stars and planets. Genes, to the wealthy and powerful, have a near spiritual significance. Jupiter is referred to as a Recurrence, a person who is long dead but whose gene-print inconceivably reappears in someone who is born centuries or even millennia later. This is seen as a near miracle, and thus is recognized by interstellar law as a legitimate reincarnation, giving this new person the same rights and privileges, and inheriting all the property previously held by the deceased person whose gene print they share.
And thatâs where the conflict comes up. Jupiter is sought out by three siblings of the Abrasax family, one of the most elite and powerful families in the universe, of which she is the reincarnation of their mother and thus entitled to re-inherit all of their resources and capital which they currently control. The kids are Kalique (Tuppence Middleton), the well-to-do, but compassionate one, Titus (Douglas Booth), the more two-faced of the three who acts innocent but is clever as a viper, and Balem (Eddie Redmayne), the stereotypical villain of the piece who seems to have nervous ticks and an inability to raise his voice above a certain octave except in times of extreme stress. Of course, since Jupiterâs now meant to control everything they currently own, none of the three Abrasax kids can be fully trusted. Jupiter doesnât have to face these three one-percenters alone however. She is accompanied by Caine Wise (Channing Tatum) an ex-soldier and wolf-splice, known as a Lycantant, who is hired by Titus to safely retrieve Jupiter from Earth before his siblings can get to her. Caineâs former commanding officer, a bee-splice known as Stinger (Sean Bean) also appears from time to time, as well as officers of the Aegis, an interstellar law enforcement agency.
If you are having a hard time following the characters here, itâs probably because there just isnât much to any of the characters other than what Iâve already written about them. And therein lies the primary flaw with this film. The characters arenât interesting, and the greater tragedy is that the characters are written to be uninteresting. Where a ton of care and attention went into crafting the look, feel and depth of the wider universe acting as the storyâs setting, the characters within this story are criminally underwritten.
Earlier, I went to great lengths to illustrate the wealth of variety throughout genres of science fiction, just how many different types of stories we might get within this narrative framework. The purpose of explaining all of that to such a degree was meant to show you that not everything has to follow the same narrative flow. Sometimes stories can be more abstract, less character driven, less action heavy. In that regard, a story exemplar like Blade Runner doesnât really need to have strongly written characters because the interpersonal aspects of its journey are less important than its atmospheric setting and stylistic momentum. The gravitas comes from a different place than in stories which are more character driven.
However, if a story does want to give us something more conventional, then itâs extremely important that the characters are strongly defined, well established and, even if not likable, at the very least interesting. Though a bit out of this wheelhouse, Fitzgeraldâs The Great Gatsby is notorious for featuring a dramatis personae of terribly vain, horrible sociopaths, but many of these characters are still written in a way that makes them interesting. Jupiter Ascending fashions itself as an epic space opera, a stylized adventure journey which goes from scrubbing toilets in Irving Park to rocketing through a wider spectacular galaxy. Within that story structure, the characters need to be given their proper attention, especially the protagonist. Only, this is not the case with this movie. In fact in Jupiter Ascending, the characters almost appear as afterthoughts, which is most unfortunate.
Despite being the protagonistâs love interest, Caine seems to have been given the most depth, as a literal lone-wolf personality, an orphan of a sort, a former soldier disgraced for an act of savagery, who longs to regain his military status as a Skyjacker, and was sprung from a prison called Deadland to rescue Jupiter from the clutches of filthy rich egomaniacs, a class of people he seems to utterly despise. Yet even Caineâs various portions of characterization are never fully explored, and he mostly serves as a vehicle to come dashing in and pluck Jupiter out of trouble over and over again. Secondary characters, other than Stinger (more on him later), are hardly there other than to function as a taxi service or exposition dump where appropriate, which is a shame since some of them have a great look but nothing else going on in the writing department to make them memorable. The Abrasax siblings are basically three different flavors of the same smug Soylent privilege, though Kalique seems to exist only to explain things for the benefit of the audience, and Balem seems to be accidentally memorable thanks to Eddie Redmayneâs unusual performance. Titus has some cool psychotic vibes with his underhanded motivations, slippery silver tongued bastard that he is, but even his role as the trickster doesnât get its due in the end.
Stinger, Caineâs former commanding officer who is now an Aegis Marshal, is also written slightly deeper than even the Abrasax siblings. He took the fall for Caineâs misstep in the military, so he also lost his wings and was disgraced for it. Despite this, he is willing to help Caine and Jupiter throughout the story, and though begrudged he seems genuinely good at heart. Stingerâs point of interest however comes from his traits as a Splice between human and bee DNA. Yes, this leads to a funny line of dialogue, but there are some great examples of show-donât-tell with Stinger, in that having bee instincts he seems superhumanly able to anticipate motion and react to it ridiculously quickly compared to most people. This ability gives him an edge in everything from fistfights to navigating massive fields of hunter-killer mines. This is hardly important to the plot, but I thought it was cool since itâs never stated outright, just displayed through his actions. Another example of a great idea thatâs mostly left adrift.
Jupiter herself starts out as a typical protagonist for a Heroâs Journey. Sheâs a Jewish Russian immigrant who leads an unglamorous life cleaning bathrooms and tidying fancy homes for her familyâs housekeeping service, apparently has bad luck with romance, and hardly ever has time to really do anything she enjoys. Typically, once these elements are presented, there will also be a revelation of something more intimate about the protagonist, her dreams and ambitions, something she longs to one day achieve, her hobbies or personality, perhaps a personal drawback or fear she wishes to overcome. But the most we get about Jupiter is that she wants to buy back a telescope which was once stolen from her astronomer father by the same thieves who murdered him (which we see early in the movie in an awkwardly directed scene). Itâs not made clear if Jupiter herself has a genuine interest in astronomy, nor even what any of her interests happen to be.
This becomes a recurring problem throughout the film. Since no real internal conflict or personality of any kind is established for Jupiter, she isnât led through any personal journey or self-exploration, nor anything which allows her to grow or evolve as the narrative opens up and accelerates. Sheâs basically just along for the ride, one of those wrong place wrong time sort of things. Her journey is entirely surface level, external forces dragging her around the stars without her having any real say in the matter nor agency of her own. She as very little idea of what she wants or who she is, from what we can tell, because we have no idea of those things either. Mila Kunis does a fine job with the material sheâs given, but the material just isnât much to run with, and if there is a drawback to her performance as an actress I promise in this case the fault is not with her.
The terrible lack of characterization hurts everything in the movie from its ethical conceits, plot momentum, all the way up to the romance subplot which only feels forced and lacking chemistry because the two leads arenât properly written. They could have had chemistry, but its difficult for archetypes to interact without endowing them with personality. Itâs a fundamental flaw from which all other flaws of the film stem because the personality, the character of the protagonist in this type of story is a fundamental element from which many other elements of the story stem.
Even towards the end, when Jupiter is forced into dangerous heroics and aggressive bravery it doesnât feel like much of anything because for all we know she was brave all along, or maybe she wasnât. Weâre never given the chance to find out. Her larger moment of heroism comes not in a violent action of conquering the badguy (though she does beat him with a pipe later... in self-defense of course), but in refusing to compromise to Balemâs ultimatum, either resign her ownership of Earth or allow Balem to murder her family. Itâs interesting to note that instead of rocking up and blowing his head off with a blaster, she just tells him to get fucked, which is a cool idea, non-violent protagonists are few and far between. Though the climax would have been far more satisfying had we gotten to know Jupiter much better before she gets to this point. Ultimately, the lack of strong characters make the progression of the movie feel awkward, and the denouement seems to come out of nowhere. Itâs really too bad, since many facets of this filmâs setup seemed to bear promise, and itâs more tragic than infuriating, leaving an audience with a countenance more in sorrow than in anger.
Like Jupiter herself, thematic elements are also only half-explored. The idea that genetics have advanced to such a point that life-regeneration has become a reality within this star-spanning civilization (albeit a reality exclusively available to the filthy, insanely wealthy) is an interesting idea, and thereâs a lot of potential for the ethical quandaries related to that sort of technology, and what makes it possible. Yet little of this is given attention beyond the horror of Jupiter discovering the Abrasax family regularly kills billions of people for longevity and profit. Is their life-extending operation the only one out there? Or is it an industry? Are there black market dealers who develop and trade their own youth serum off the books? Itâs all kind of muddy and little of it is given any explanation or nuance.
As weâve established, Campbellâs heroâs journey isnât the only way to go about a sci-fi story, but in Jupiter Ascending itâs like half-started without any of the follow-through, and the characters which should be the heart of the story are greatly lacking any depth. The filmâs been compared to a Disney-style princess story, and even references Cinderella at one point, though it does seem to be aiming higher than this. Yet, the lackluster character writing and flat dialogue all make the story somewhat impotent, whatever its aim, leaving the movie looking like a majestically beautiful gild-feathered eagle, which just happens to be blind. Fun to look at, but has absolutely no idea where itâs going. I canât articulate enough what a shame this all is, since there really are some cool ideas and sci-fi content here. I truly wish, as a sci-fi enthusiast, that Jupiter was truly able to ascend.
Iâd recommend it as a fun romp through an intriguing galaxy, but itâs more useful as an example of how to get everything right with a movie, everything other than the thing that really holds it all together: a well-written protagonist. Still, Iâm no intersectionalist, but itâs nice to see the girl get the guy at the end of the story, the way guy protagonists get to get the girl at the end of all their stories. That was a pleasant feeling, even if it wasnât quite earned with everything come before it. Plus, you know; lizardmen, and jet-bikes. The Wachowskis are generally great at what they do though, just maybe have a tough time channeling it. Hereâs hoping they can get back to us with something truly badass in future because the level of commitment to the craft seen in this movie is extraordinary, even if the reach exceeds the grasp in this particular case.Â

Being anti LGBTQ is wrong, there arenât two sides. The damage it causes it severe. Full stop. Sending love to all.â In response to criticism of her stance, Page added, âConversion therapy and anti lgbtq rhetoric is extremely damaging. Children kill themselves. People suffer.â ADVERTISEMENT The organization in question, the celebrity-laden Hillsong, has made it clear over the years that they find homosexuality to be a sin, and investigations have revealed a history that includes gay conversion therapy. They released a statement in 2015 saying that, while everyone is âwelcome,â they âdo not affirm a gay lifestyle and because of this we do not knowingly have actively gay people in positions of leadership.â Pratt responded to Pageâs remarks on Monday, taking to Instagram with a statement about Hillsongâs welcoming environment and the ways in which they supported him during his divorce from actress Anna Faris. âIt has recently been suggested that I belong to a church which âhates a certain group of peopleâ and is âinfamously anti-LGBTQ.â Nothing could be further from the truth,â he wrote. âI go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone. Despite what the Bible says about divorce, my church community was there for me every stop of the way, never judging, just gracefully accompanying me on my walk. They helped me tremendously offering love and support. It is what I have seen them do for others on countless occasions regardless of sexual orientation, race or gender.â ADVERTISEMENT Of course, Pratt is just echoing Hillsongâs own stance here, using language about the welcoming nature of the church without addressing its deeply held beliefs regarding homosexuality. He goes on, however, to distinguish his own beliefs from those of the church. âMy faith is important to me but no church defines me or my life, and I am not a spokesman for any church or group of people,â he wrote. âMy values define who I am. We need less hate in this world, not more. I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgement of their fellow man.â Read his full statement below. Cinema Varietyâs Top Favorite Films of 2016
Well cinephiles and friends alike, my annual list of favorite films has finally arrived. I had to take these first few weeks in the new year to re-watch some of this years gems to order my list accurately. Through careful deliberation, I present to you my favorite films of 2016. Make sure to check out my top pick lists from previous years provided below!Â
Top Picks of 2015 List Top Picks of 2014 List Top Picks of 2013 List Honorable Mentions: The Wailing Elle Goat The Sea of Trees The Witch Green Room Lemonade The Odyssey Black Mirror: San Junipero ** THIS LIST IS IN ORDER ** #18 - The Childhood of a Leader Directed by Brady Corbet
Brady Corbetâs directorial debut is a chilling fictional tale about the rise of fascism in the early 20th century. The result is a character study focusing on the origins of evil. Corbet is clearly inspired by the aesthetics of Michael Haneke, Ingmar Bergman and even a little bit of Andrei Tarkovsky. Long tracking shots and an overpowering orchestral score brings the audience on this artistic journey. The conclusion of the film left me shocked, watch out for it. #17 - Operation Avalanche Directed by Matt Johnson
Operation Avalanche is a true hidden gem for anyone who delights in films centered around conspiracy theories. The theory of the moon landing being a staged production might be one of the most ridiculous hoaxes out of them all - and there are groups of people who truly believe it. However, this film is made in a way that actually makes it seem like a very possible reality. The movie is cleverly filmed in a POV mockumentary format with a classic 60s filter. The film shifts in tone from a comedy of sorts and ends in paranoia. I found it to be one of the most underrated films of the year. #16 - Swiss Army Man Directed by The Daniels
Itâs an impressive feat when a film featuring constant flatulence and directional erections can also end up being a heartfelt and existential story of friendship. There are very few comedies on this list, or on any of my other annual lists for that matter. Swiss Army Man succeeded on making me laugh multiple times. I praise it simply for its originality and the fact that the filmmakers tackled on such ridiculous themes in a way that they didnât become immature or worthy of an eye roll. Another shoutout to the energetic score and colorful production design. #15 - La La Land Directed by Damien Chazelle
The musical genre is most definitely one of my least favorite ones. Other than a few exceptions (Across the Universe, The Wall, Dancer in the Dark), I have found most musicals to be unbearably cheesy. The cheese is still there in La La Land, but it is effective because that is the intended tone. It truly is a throwback to the golden age of Hollywood filled with allusions from earlier infamous musicals such as Singing in The Rain. I anticipated this film from the start both because Damien Chazelle blew me away with Whiplash and because Ryan Gosling is my favorite actor working today. Shot on a film, in a dazzling Technicolor format, it also features some of the most awe inspiring cinematography out of all the movies released this year. I believe La La Land is the film that we needed to end 2016 with - a film filled with magic and hope for a better future. #14 - Manchester by the Sea Directed by Kenneth Lonergan
Man did this movie crush me. It squeezed everything out of me and left me a hollow shell. I went home and sat on my couch and just cried after leaving the theatre. Donât let this lead you astray from watching it, itâs just such a realistic heart-wrenching drama that I couldnât help but be affected by it the entire day after seeing it. It might not be a masterpiece as such critics claim it to be, but it is a moving insight on the loss of loved ones and the emotional wreckage that can come out of it. There is no overly-done melodrama or redemption in the denouement. Instead, it focuses on little moments that end up forming a much greater whole by the end. Casey Affleckâs restrained performance was something I empathize with as he held a tragic rage behind his eyes. #13 - Jackie Directed by Pablo Lorrain
This was a film that grew on me days after seeing it. I was absorbed by it while I watched it in a small art-house theatre, but it was afterward where it really began to resonate with me. The JFK assassination is a momumental tragedy in history that has always greatly interested me. I remember being haunted by the video footage when it was shown to me in a college history class. While the script may be lacking in areas, the performance by Natalie Portman is the saving grace of this production. Portman has transcended her star status in this role by flawlessly emulating the former First Lady. Jackie is a film that plays like a fragmented memory - it jumps in time throughout. The production design transported me to the 1960s and Mica Leviâs score really is the standout aspect of the film. #12 - The Blackcoatâs Daughter Directed by Oz Perkins
I believe The Blackcoatâs Daughter is the yearâs most underrated and ignored horror film. The very few critic reviews I found online all have positive things to say, while most audience reviews are the opposite. This is the feature film debut of director Oz Perkins. He has created a richly nuanced horror film that never reaches any outrageous or flashy climax, which is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual tripe that comes out of Hollywood year after year. Perkinâs directs the film with a restrained control that would make his horror-icon of a father, Anthony Perkins, proud. There is a thick haze of dread that doesnât ease up until the filmâs bleak finale. The films minimal use of dialogue works perfectly in unison with the nonstop rumbling score. The entire aesthetic of The Blackcoatâs Daughter is what made it work so well for me. Loads of unnecessary dialogue and jump scares are replaced with well executed tracking shots and genuinely upsetting violence. The end product is a deliciously evil exercise In dread. #11 - The Eyes of My Mother Directed by Nicolas Pesce
The Eyes of My Mother is the type of art-house horror film I feel like Iâve been waiting all year for. Everything about it speaks to me as a horror fan. The story seems as if it was ripped out of one of my worst nightmares; Or better yet, if you could visualize the musings of a demented asylum patient - the result would be The Eyes of My Mother. This film would never have been as effective if it wasnât for the lush, gorgeous black and white photography. Camera shots are shrowded in shadows which adds to the aforementioned nightmare effect. Thank god this film has such a short runtime (itâs only a little over 70 minutes). I wasnât sure how much more I could take of this grueling tale. The last 20 minutes of the film takes a plunge into the heart of darkness - which to many viewers could be considered completely morally reprehensible. Well, a desensitized horror junkie such as myself was pleased by the filmmakerâs decision to conclude this story as depraved as possible. I decided to celebrate Christmas this year in the holiday spirit by showing this movie to my brother. By the end of it, he just turned to me and asked: âWhy do you do this to me?â. #10 - The Light Between Oceans Directed by Derek Cianfrance
Derek Cianfrance is one of my very favorite directors working today. His first two films (Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines) both have found a place in my top 15 favorite films of all time. Needless to say Iâve been tirelessly anticipating his latest feature. It didnât have the same impact on me as his previous features; however, it still ended up being an impressive and heartbreaking picture. Adam Arkapaw works wonders as the DOP. His camerawork captures the coast of Australia beautifully. Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander work perfectly off of each other (yet another instance of Fassbender completely investing himself in a role). Keep an ear out for the perfectly utilized âFuneral Canticleâ track that has never failed to give me goosebumps since the first time I heard it in The Tree of Life. #9 - Cemetery of Splendour Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul
Describing this film is a challenge in itself - let alone reviewing it. This is the second film Iâve seen by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and they both are masterpieces in my eyes. Cemetery of Splendour, much like the soldiers affected by a sleeping epidemic in the film, lead me down the rabbit hole into a deep trance state. I love films which feel like I dreamt them after theyâre over, and thatâs exactly what this movie achieved. The long takes, minimal use of a score, and gorgeous natural scenery worked together to create a relaxing and mind expanding experience. #8 - Moonlight Directed by Barry Jenkins
I might not think that Moonlight is the very best film of the year, but it might just be the most important. Itâs not everyday where you hear about masterful films that deal with homosexuality in the African American community. Jenkins tackles this subject perfectly by not making this aspect of the characterâs persona the focal point of the film. Itâs just as much a coming of age story about masculinity than it is a story about a guy struggling with his sexual identity. I related to this film on a very personal level because I know what itâs like being harassed by peers in school on the basis of being gay. Moonlight follows the central character Little from his adolescence in grade school all the way until manhood. Although three different actors are playing the same character, I was utterly convinced it was the same person for they all adopted the same mannerisms and personality traits. Moonlight makes a grand statement about finding out who you truly are. It sends the message that itâs possible to find acceptance by people other than your immediate family. #7 - Midnight Special Directed by Jeff Nichols
Jeff Nichols is being praised this year on the award circuit for his touching film Loving, but itâs this film that stayed with me after watching. Never has there been a film made about supernatural abilities that has hit me on such a deep level. Midnight Special deals with a plethora of themes other than a child with superhuman abilities. These include the responsibilities of fatherhood and the special bond between parents and their child. It opens ambiguously and the intelligent plot slowly unfolds in such a way that questions are answered little by little until the absolutely soul-touching finale. Even though she has limited screen time, Kirsten Dunst added to this films perfection. The sheer humanity displayed through her performance as a mother who will do anything to keep her child out of harms way is an admirable thing. Midnight Special is a sci-fi film for the ages. #6 - Embrace of the Serpent Directed by Ciro Guerra
The fevered madness of the jungle is alive in this flick. Embrace of the Serpent addresses the duality of man. His ability to create yet also his sure-fire knack to destroy goodness. His willingness to help others yet also falling victim to his own egoic desires. In this film, the Westernized man leads to the downfall of an ancient Amazonian civilization. Serpent focuses on two different white men, separated by decades in time, who traverse into the depths of the jungle guided by the last living member of a tribe. Both of these men are looking for a hallucinogenic plant - one to cure his terminal illness, the other for purposes of being able to dream. The end product is a head-trip into psychedelia where plant medicine is the supreme deity. #5 - Arrival Directed by Denis Villenueve
Villenueve knocked it out of the park again this year with his latest film. Is there anything this man cannot do? The French-Canadian filmmaker strayed away from the dark and somber tone of his previous works and created something life affirming. Arrival is an example of smart science-fiction that has been coming out of the film industry recently (something along the likes of Interstellar). Humanity is put to the test in this movie as they try to figure out the intentions of the alien visitors. But itâs a story about love and loss above all. Arrival is edited perfectly by manipulating the viewerâs sense of time. Once I reached the ending and pieced it all together, I was a wet-faced audience member in that dead silent theatre as the other attendees sat dazed. #4 - The Neon Demon Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn
Is it a dazzling grand statement on the depraved narcissism of the professional modeling industry? Or is it just more pretentious artistic masturbation which has become expected of Refn? My thoughts are with the former. Refnâs auteur style that he has developed upon since the release of his magnum opus Drive has been particularly polarizing among critics and audiences alike - almost as polarizing as Terrence Malick. I believe people dislike The Neon Demon for some of the same reasons why the general masses reacted so negatively to Spring Breakers: it tries too hard to be artsy, itâs just a boring music video, the dialogue is unrealistic. At the same time I feel as if these audiences didnât grasp onto the fact that these films which shed light on the hedonistic lifestyle of deranged young women are purely satirical. Theyâre supposed to be absurd. The irony is is that this absurdism is actually reflective on the types of females that move to LA for the pursuit of fame and recognition. It certainly is the best looking Refn film to date, with even banal or commonplace locations drenched in neon hues. And Cliff Martinez has outdone himself with the synth-heavy score which guides us along this fairytale of horrors. How far would you go to get to the top? In Refnâs surreal vision of Los Angeles there is no such thing as going too far to reach fame, even if it means bloodshed. As one character says in the film: âBeauty isnât everything, itâs the only thing.â It would be nice to write off this statement as pure subjectivity, but what else has the media taught us but this ideal? #3 - Nocturnal Animals Directed by Tom Ford
Do you ever really know the person you love? This is the thought running through my mind while watching Tom Fordâs romance story disguised as a crime-revenge. Ford has created a highly innovating form of storytelling with Nocturnal Animals. A violent story of revenge is presented to symbolize the betrayal that Amy Adamâs commits against Gyllenhaalâs character. What made this film so enjoyable was the aspect that it was like two different films in one, yet both stories suitably complement one another. The frustratingly ambiguous ending was delightful as the audience searches for the intentions of Gyllenhaalâs character. The whole thing was a stylish story of betrayal. #2 - Knight of Cups Directed by Terrence Malick
My cinematic idol returned in 2016 with many ambitious projects: two different documentaries about the birth and death of the universe with Voyage of Time, a festival premiere date set for his forthcoming Song to Song, and the stream of consciousness visual poem which is Knight of Cups. I believe there is such thing as a Malick gene. His films either strike people with such awe and wonder that they come out of his films feeling enlightened or they are the cinematic equivalent of taking an Ambien for others. I have total faith that this film will be considered a classic masterpiece in decades to come. Sometimes it just takes time for a film to receive that cult status. Unfortunately, a formula which critics took such a liking to with The Tree of Life quickly became redundant and meandering in the publicâs eye with his two follow-up works. Just like with all great art, it takes repeated viewings to really appreciate the philosophical mastery of this film. Iâve seen it over five times now and each time I walk away with something new - Â a blossoming appreciation that such abstract and soulful cinema can be financed. If you have any idea about Malickâs life then you understand that Knight of Cups is the last film in his autobiographical trilogy. I see it as a sort-of spiritual sequel to The Tree of Life. A sense of disassociation is felt through the floating camerawork which follows Christian Bale on an odyssey of temptation in Los Angeles. Malick abandons small-town rural settings and older time periods for a tale set in the present day luxury land of LA. I must admit that when the credits started to scroll I couldnât help but ask myself: âthatâs it?â The abrupt finale left me feeling a little hollow. It left me with nothing. But I soon realized that this was Malickâs intention. This was the loneliness and isolation he felt as a big-shot Hollywood director even though he was surrounded with admirers. So to save himself, he leaves that lifestyle and finds his redemption through the glories of divine Mother Nature. I am so happy that there is a director who I feel so connected to, someone who expresses his eloquent ideology through some of the most beautiful movies ever in the annals of cinematic history. Knight of Cups is a fervent reverie on love, loss and life. A haunting meditation of redeeming oneself after a swift fall from grace. #1 - American Honey Directed by Andrea Arnold
A film so filled with life that I couldnât help but feel exhilarated after it ended, American Honey is an epic road trip story for the millenial era. Its plot is open and free flowing much akin to the characters who traverse across the midwest in a van selling magazines to folks from all different social and economic backgrounds. American Honey exposes the dark underbelly of American households, especially for low-income ones. Youths search through trash cans in order to find a fitting meal. A drunken stepfather takes advantage of his stepdaughter. A junkie mother falls unconscious on the couch unable to take care of her young children. I might be making American Honey sound like a film filled with sorrow and hopeless situations. However Andrea Arnold takes the subject matter and actually gives it a twinge of hope. The chemistry between all the characters, most particularly between Sasha Lane and Shia Labeouf, makes it practically impossible to look away at could very well be a trainwreck waiting to happen. As soon as you think some awful event is going to happen to end the roadieâs journey of freedom - it doesnât. American Honey sometimes feels more like a documentary than a feature film. The dialogue comes off as mostly improvisational and the plot is minimal at best. Arnold has taken cues from Larry Clarkâs style of filmmaking when he released his controversial HIV drama Kids in 1995. Considering that film is in my top 10 favorite films of all time, itâs clear as to why American Honey was my favorite work released this year. With its unique aspect ratio, colorful and eccentric characters, and one hell of an eclectic soundtrack, American Honey breathed new life into me. By the end I felt almost as purified as Sasha Lane does as she takes a dip into a lake, descending to the bottom only to emerge from the surface a newly realized person.

Gosh you seem so angry all the time. Might wanna try eating more of those veggies. And meditation. Pretty sure Gillian would agree
Well I should eat more veggies and learn to meditate, so for now Iâm gonna put your condescension on ice.
Because a) I would like to be less angry and b) if you actually calculate my (blockable) #rose rants tag as a percentage of my posting itâs less than 1%âŠÂ
But honestly, does it piss me off that I canât go in the Gillian tag without being bombarded by irrelevant and infuriating posts? Yes. I come here to read fic and see pics and enjoy my evenings, not to read lengthy expositions about why people who believe in one fan theory are superior to those who believe another and should pat themselves on the back for their wisdom.
I hate the divisiveness of it, not only because it shatters my good mood but because itâs illogical, unnecessary, and skewed in such a way that it means people (like myself) whose opinion differs from those shouting the loudest, becomes not just a difference but a reason to send hate, break up friendships and weaken the fandom.
Iâm putting the rest of this under a cut, because Iâm sure thereâs plenty people who donât wanna read it but for once Iâm not going to condense my thought process into clickbait. If Iâm gonna get hate then I may as well get it for my whole mind and not just the headlines.
Things that piss me off.
1. The assumption that Gillianâs (or Davidâs) relationship status is in any way relevant. It just isnât. They donât talk about it publicly, which means EVERYTHING personal we discuss is speculation.Â
2. The confusion of speculation with fact.
I have spiralled with the best of them. Sometimes we all go a bit crazy over something cute. But when does it end? Thereâs theory and then thereâs lunacy and the fact that âevidenceâ as spurious as the presence of one man on a continent after a week of not getting papped, gets woven into a narrative as âfactâ makes me want to scream. If I didnât have a job, I would love to sit down and unpack both the Gillovny and Gilligan conspiracies, reduce them right down to facts. Make a list. No interpretation. No romance. Just the bare words and untouched pictures. Because what we have here feels like a folie a cent - itâs MADNESS. Since when did the Scully in us say - âyou know what, faceless source, with sources - I believe your vague assurancesâ. Or âThis random piece of jewellery MUST mean this random theoryâ.Â
When the blog that started a narrative becomes the point of reference in their own story, it all falls apart. For me, anyway. And to see people tote their own, months old suppositions as âfactual evidenceâ in support of their current idea, hoodwinking both newbies and people who werenât paying attention the first time wrong makes the scientist in me shudder.
3. Generalisation.
X said this one time, therefore they are Y always. Whether this is directed at a blog (e.g me being angry one time = me being a hateful person) or a star (DD once compared Gillian to a blow-up doll = DD is a misogynistic prick), itâs fucked up that we perpetuate it. Because itâs not valid reasoning and itâs gross.
e.g. Gillian wears black every time she does a public appearance :. she is a satanist.Â
Bull. Shit.
4. Hypocrisy
And this is what really got my goat this evening. The idea that one side of a theory is more valid than another leading to people making arguments that are so hypocritical it hurts my soul. I hate that it boils down to âGillovny vs. Gilliganâ but thatâs where it seems to be right now .
I honestly think that Gillian could drag Peter Morgan up on stage at the Womenâs March in London on Sunday, ride him bareback like a cowgirl while screaming âFuck You David Duchovnyâ at the news cameras, and some people would still find a way to explain it away. And find people willing to back them and shout down anyone who just points at the footage and goes âbutâŠ?â
Is there definitive proof that PM and GA are dating⊠no. But thereâs a lot more evidence to indicate those two are involved right now than Gillian and David (who havenât been spotted together or even within a thousand miles since August of last year). Does that mean the Gillovny crowd have to give up? Well thatâs their call.
For me though, I would like to say that I have NEVER gone into the Gillian tag and found anyone who skews âGilliganâ slandering David, accusing Gillian of being a slut, perpetuating a showmance or trying to find ways to devalue their nice Ga & DDs nice moments together like Kimmel or.. their whole careers. Iâve seen some stupid manips, a few awws but thatâs about it. But the most ardent on the âGillovnyâ side are not playing so nicely. The things I have seen written about Peter Morgan are, frankly, disgusting, the accusations levelled at Gillian are offensive and the need to prove Harpers Bazaar/Golden Globes meaningless is pathological.
Add to that that certain among the Gillovny remainers seem to feel the need to go after anyone who dares say anything positive about PM, commenting on harmless posts with horribl horrible things in some bizarre attmept to shore up their own belief by shitting in the yards of others⊠yeah.
Itâs hypocritical and honestly it makes me mad enough that I wanna march into the homes of the people posting this shit and shake some sense and respect into them.
5. Anon culture
That a function intended to make blogs accessible to non-members and newbies gets hi-jacked for the spreading of hate and agenda. If you have as many opinions as find their way in to my inbox (and those of other blogs on both sides of the equation), make your own blog and put it out there with your signature on. Maybe my opinions and rants will loe me followers. Maybe they will lose me friends. But I put them out there with my face and my voice behind them. I am not ashamed of how I feel.
6. Apathy.
I am so over the expectation that silence is the only acceptable way to handle bad behaviour. Because thatâs what some of this is, straight up bullying, mob-backed campaigns of misinformation designed to discredit decent people in the service of a fandom appetite and shame those who dare to differ from them into silence.
And I am not okay with that.Â
There is no honour, no peace for me in sitting quietly and watching my follower count rise as I post silly videos, or smutty fanfic or cute gifsets, and pretending like I donât see whatâs going on on the sidelines.
I would rather lose all my followers, talking about what I think is right, shining a light on our worst habits and trying to bring people together in a way that is honest and truthful rather than my just sweeping shittiness under the rug and playing nice, than be the most popular blog in the fandom.
And that. Anon. Is why Iâm sometimes angry. Because with my new decision in terms of speaking up, I get home, go in the tags for inspiration, and instead of seeing a cute MSR pic I can be inspired by, I find shit that needs calling out, which generates anons I need to respond to, and bam, there goes my evening.
But Iâd rather be angry than have regrets. So there.

What happened to the man that shot Lee Harvey Oswald?
De oppresso liber
COMMENTARY:
The short answer is that Jack Ruby died in prison.
Everything else is a bit murky.
This video is about as good as anything coming out of the conspiracy soup. Jim Mars brings together many of the threads of the Oswald and Ruby together. The great virtue of this video is that it is short, but you can begin to appreciate the breathless quality of the assassination conspiracy crowd.
Jim Marrs Makes Lee Harvey Oswald/Jack Ruby Connection
Just for the record, it is clear to me that there were at least two active shooters, one from the back and one from the front, who delivered the fatal head shot. The establishing evidence to my satisfaction was that Jackie climbed unto the boot of the limo to retrieve a shard of JFKâs scull which she ultimately gives to a surgeon in hopes that it might help repair her husband. A shot from the rear couldnât have blown that fragment backwards.
I placed the Mars video first for you to review because of the attempt to connect the dots between Oswald and Ruby. I cannot connect the dots. Iâm not interested in trying to connect the dots. Iâm interested in explaining the conspiracy as a chaotic system moving through the larger anarchy of American Democratic Socialism that has been nurturing the Free Enterprise economics of constituional capitalism since, well, Jamestown, but really got traction wiVth the New Deal as a something brand new. Chaotic systems are one tool of the process theology I employ in my profession of Organization Development. I am a process theology guru and the only other process theology guru Iâm aware of in America is Ltc. Frank âBe All You Can Beâ Burns, the guy in charge of the men who stare at goats in the 1st Earth Batallion of Task Force Deltaâs Space Force/Starship Trooper Organization Effectiveness group, and heâs dead.
He and I are both Army brats and we grew up at a time when Counter-Insurgency/Nation Building was the sexy career path. My personal core value beginning in 1963 until I got to Vietnam in the summer after Kent State was De Oppresso Liber. I wanted to spend my career around people who earned the right to pin it on their chest. The Green Berets are the Jedi Knights of Democratic Socialism and they were in Vietnam as Social Justice Warriors and for exactly the same reason the 12 Strong came looking for USL in Afghanistan and why we are still in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is a poster famous among the Soldier-of-Fortune demographic from Rodesia âBe a Man Among Menâ. Exactly.
And a big part of Counter-Insurgency/Nation Building is forensics and, when it comes to social movements, such as a Trotsky Insurgency Process, chaotic systems are invaluable. Sociology measures chaotic systems with topology, which is the mathematics of process theology. All this stuff you learn to use in a liberal arts cirriculum, including management as a performing art (which is what basically military leadership comes down to) is what people like the CIA, USAID, CIA, Peace Corps and Green Berets are all liberation theology writ large: De Oppresso Liber. Onward, Christian Soldier. Mit Romney may have gone to Paris as a Mormon missionary, but, unlike John Bolton, I went to the Central Highlands as a missionary for Democratic Socialism and the US Constitution, which is redundant.
Jack Ruby On Trial (Documentary)Â
So, now, anyway, you are aware of my method. Jim Mars throws out a lot of dots. The issue isnât that they connect within their own local context. Thatâs the nature of actual conspiracy, big league, overthrow an election in Iran and install Bett Kavanaugh as the Shah of Iran. The Great Game. You take two shooters and the Magic Bullet and you end up with Brett Kavanugh on the Supreme Court and the bought and paid for politicians that put him there.
There are a lot of dots there, but, with chaos theory and process theology, a 3D picture will begin to emerge like an animation of a cancer growing that you can run back and forth. The cancer we have right now is embedded in the GOP Deep State with the Koch brothers as one dot we can connect back to the Powell Manifesto in 1971.
The thing is, except for the Zapruder film and the testimony of a Dallas surgeon that Jackie gave him a bit of skull she retrieved off the boot of a limo. My deal is to break the evil enchantment of the Oliver Stone version of Vietnam, like Prince Charming kissing Sleeping Beauty set to Tchaikovsky with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the role of Prince Charming.
But I digress. Roger Stone is one of the people who can connect the dots between Dallas and the confirmation of Kavanaugh, I mean, one of the problems I have with JFK, the movie, is the scene where they demonstrate why Oswald couldnât have fired 3 times in 5.6 seconds and that little flutter of dishonesty is the sort of thing Kavanaughâs testimony is just saturated with: itâs a critical feature of the Warren Commission: if Oswald couldnât get 3 shots off in 5.6 seconds, the Magic Bullet isnât possible. Now, I never bought the Magic Bullet theory: that was Senator Orrin Hatch defending Kavanugh from the evil Dr. Ford, a vengeful lesbian Femi-Nazi determined to make the world unsafe for boys. BUT I donât think someone strung out on adrenalin strapped into a bolt-action military rifle would have any real problem getting 2 shots off in 5.6 seconds. As for hitting anything, the shot in Dealey Plaza is a pot-shot: he could have scored hits with a .177 cal air rifle. The Warren Commission pretty well falls apart after that. I mean, you can get the bullets from the rear into the kill zone, but he need a 4th, boomarang shot to deposit that piece of scull on the boot of the limo.
So, all things are possible. Roger Stone is throwing up a lot of air time flogging a theory that LBJ is the nexus of the conspiracy. The strongest connection is organized crime and various interest parties if it is LBJ. How does Stone know this? He worked in Nixonâs Plumbers and probably missed being indicted for Watergate for the same reason Jack Ruby never really broke into big time organized crime: his essential talent is self-promotion and that makes serious players uneasy.
But he knew the serious players, back then, but the GOP really wasnât mobbed up in 1970, much less 1963, the way the Democrats were. I mean, Joe Kennedy was a bootlegger and favored Hitler until Joe, Jr., was killed. But the Kennedys did set the Michael Corleone generation moving towards the GOP and now all those people who might have been involved in the JFK assassination have found a home in the GOP Deep State. And Roger Stone knows everybody LBJ would have known if his theory is right. Plus, he, Roger Stone, can connect the dots in the GOP Deep State with the dots in the Russian Dark Web that stole the Clinton analytics that Spanky used to snatch the Electorial College right out of the votersâ intent, just like with the Butterfly Ballot in Boward County and a Supreme Court packed with early versions of Brett Kavanugh, bought and paid for by the Koch brothers. Jeb Bush knew about the Butterfly Ballot before the fact. He was elected to the Gover norâs Mansion the second time the Butterfly Ballot was employed âto save moneyâ in a general election. Nobody paid any attention to the spoiled ballots because it Boward County is a heavy geriatric vote and, well, you know how confused all those duffers can get in the stress of voting.
The thing is, the Democrats stopped doing this sort of thing after LBJ dropped out, All that apparatus Roger Stone describes went with him and Humphrey was left with the SDS and Peter, Paul and Mary, who preferred âClean Geneâ McCarthy. Iâm perfectly willing to stipulate to everything Roger Stone alleges about LBJ and it is now part of the GOP Deep State. Roger Stone and Jack Ruby are dots in the vast right wing conspiracy Hillary Clinton accurately described in 1993 and now it has put Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court and, when you roll the tape backwards and forwards in time, There is no more than 3 degrees of separation them and Steve Bannon, Newt Gingrich, the House Freedom Caucus and, alas, Susan Collins. All those people who are indulging in an end zone celebration in regards to Kavanaugh? A distinct chaotic system that is involved in fucking up everything I went to Vietnam to spread to the rest of the world.

[ Introductory notes from Voxfux]
One by one, the dots get connected. The same names keep popping up and they are linked with the same activities over and over and over again until the pattern becomes so clear and undeniable, the circumstantial evidence becomes so overwhelming and the picture emerges that is so frightening that it is hard to believe that it is true. The picture that has emerged is that indeed the major institutions of the United States of America, the CIA, the FBI and the many of our governmental and media institutions are involved in child sexual slavery and ritualistic abuse. The same names keep surfacing in relation to the same subjects over and over again. The CIA, child sexual abuse, the Catholic church, George Bush Sr., The secret societies of the Scull and Bones, the Freemasons, The Knights of Malta and others and on and on and on.
If you think this sounds like some âlooney conspiracy theory,â congratulations, thatâs exactly how they programmed you to think, you have been brainwashed â your mind has been successfully obliterated. For, the evidence presented on the voxfux.com website is so overwhelming and so indisputable that to ignore it any longer or write it off as too outrageous to be true, is to be a low immoral retarded coward. If you decide to continue reading, prepare yourself to connect all the dots of this evil incarnate. Read on. Your life and the safety of you family depends on it.

On February 7th of 1987, the Washington Post ran an interesting story that did not at first seem to have any particularly national significance. The article concerned a case of possible kidnapping and child abuse, and material discovered in the Washington area that they say points to a 1960s style commune called the Finders, described in a court document as a âcultâ that conducted âbrainwashingâ and used children âin rituals.â DC police who searched the Northeast Washington warehouse linked to the group removed large plastic bags filled with color slides, photographs and photographic contact sheets. Some showed naked children involved in what appeared to be âcult rituals,â bloodletting ceremonies of animals and one photograph of a child in chains.
Customs officials said their links to the DC area led authorities into a far-reaching investigation that includes The Finders â a group of about 40 people that court documents allege is led by a man named Marion Pettie â and their various homes, including the duplex apartment in Glover Park, the Northeast Washington warehouse and a 90 acre farm in rural Madison County, VA.
It was the US News and World Report that would ultimately provide the follow-up to the Finders story, noting that there is a certainCustoms Service memorandum that was written at the time of the original investigation, written by Ramon J. Martinez, Special Agent, United States Customs Service, describing two adult white males and six minor children ages 7 years to 2 years. The adult males were Michael Houlihan and Douglas Ammerman, both of Washington, DC who had been arrested the previous day on charges of child abuse. The children were covered with insect bites, were very dirty, most of the children were not wearing underpants and all of the children had not been bathed in many days. The men were somewhat evasive under questioning and stated only that they were the childrenâs teachers and were en route to Mexico to establish a school for brilliant children. The children were unaware of the functions of telephones, television and toilets, and stated that they were not allowed to live indoors and were only given food as a reward.
A Detective Bradley had initiated an investigation on the two addresses provided by the Tallahassee Police Department during December of 1986. An informant had given him information regarding the cult, known as the âFinders,â operating various businesses out of a warehouse located at 1307 4th Street, N.E., and were supposed to be housing children at 3918/3920 W St., N.W.
The information was specific in describing âblood ritualsâ and sexual orgies involving children, and an as yet unsolved murder in which the Finders might be involved.
Cursory examination of documents revealed detailed instructions for optaining children for unspecified purposes. The instructions included the impregnation of female members of the community, purchasing children, trading and kidnapping. There were telex messages using MCI account numbers between a computer terminal believed to be in the same room, and others located across the country and in foreign locations.
There were pictures of nude children and adult Finders, as well as evidence of high-tech money transfers. There was a file called âPentagon Break-in,â and references to activities in Moscow, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, North Vietnam, North Korea, Africa, London, Germany, âEuropeâ and the Bahamas.
There was also a file labeled âPalestinian.â
One such telex specifically ordered the purchase of two children in Hong Kong to be arranged through a contact in the Chinese Embassy there. Other documents identified interests in high-tech transfers to the United Kingdom, numerous properties under the control of the Finders, a keen interest in terrorism, explosives, and the evasion of law enforcement.
There was also a set of instructions that appeared to broadcast via computer an advisory to the participants to keep the children moving through different jurisdictions and instructions on how to avoid police detection.
A photo album contained a series of photos of adults and children dressed in white sheets participating in a blood ritual. The ritual centered around the execution of at least two goats. The photos portrayed the execution, disembowelment, skinning and dismemberment of the goats at the hands of the children. This included the removal of the testes of a male goat, the discovery of a female goatâs âwombâ and the âbaby goatsâ inside the womb, and the presentation of the goatâs head to one of the children.
There was also a large amount of data collected on various child care organizations.
The warehouse contained a large library, two kitchens, a sauna, hot tub and a âvideo room.â The video room seemed to be set up as an indoctrination center. The organization had the ability to produce its own videos. There appeared to be training areas for the children and what appeared to be an altar set up in a residential area of the warehouse. Many jars of urine and feces were located in this area.
Group leader Marion Pettie spoke in an interview in Steamshovel Press in 1998, noting that in World War II he kept house maintly to intelligence people in Washington and OSS people passing through.
Official US Customs investigation reports which have been completely authenticated by the investigating officers who wrote them and by a well respected investigator who personally knows these Customs officials are irrefutable evidence that:
1. A case of obvious child neglect/abuse involving child pedophile sexual abuse/child pornography/Satanic cult ritualistic abuse wherein the perpetrators were caught directly in the act by law enforcement, arrested on the basis of irrefutable evidence at the scene, and faced serious charges which typically bring sentences of decades in prison.
2. Search warrants were obtained for the âFindersâ cult office in Washington, DC and a complete search was enacted by law enforcement which provided irrefutable pictures, movies and documents of such abuse/neglect evidence and access to the confidential arrest reports on the âFindersâ cult from the arrests in Tallahassee which occurred only a day earlier (suggesting very high level connections to US intelligence in and of itself.)
3. All investigation of the âFindersâ cult by the FBI, US Customs and local law enforcement was ordered stopped by the US Justice Department on the grounds of ânational securityâ and the matter of the âFindersâ cult was turned over to the Central Intelligence Agency as an âinternal security matter,â since the âFindersâ is and has been a domestic and international covert operation of the Central Intelligence Agency.
4. Any and all investigation of the âFindersâ was immediately stopped, all evidence was supressed and denied, and the abused children were released back to the adult perpetrators who had been arrested âin the actâ and the CIA resumed its ongoing covert operation of the âFindersâ cult which is used to procure and produce. The story of the Finders cult is the story of the development of child/assets to be used to entrap politicians, diplomats; corporate and law enforcement officials; to sell child/victims to wealthy perverts to raise money for covert operations, to train some of the child/victims to be professional operatives and assassins of a totally cold, multiple personality, mind control nature.
To date only one media outlet has dared publish anything about this (US News).
In the last few years there have been more âsmoking gunsâ proving that US intelligence agencies traffic in children, sell them and abuse them. Some of these covert operations have been tied to long term and massive importation, and distribution of narcotics into the US by the same iintelligence agencies.
BELOW IS AN ARCHIVE OF EXISTING RECORDS INVOLVING THIS CHILLING STORY OF CIA INVOLVEMENT IN CHILD RITUAL SEXUAL ABUSE.
I am presenting this U.S. Custom Service Document (1) and news article (2) for the purpose of discussion of Satanic ritualistic abuse of children;that an organized, computer-literate, terrorist group, âThe Findersâ, was found in participation of the Satanic ritualistic abuse of children (1) and that, with the coming of Millennium Prophecy, more groups may form with Satanism used for the empowerment of their agenda; that âThe Findersâ, were found to be group involved in âcompetitor intelligence for a variety of mostly foreign clientsâ (2) and were headquartered in Washington DC close to governmental facilities raising the legitimate question of connections between Satanic ritualistic abuse of children and government agencies; that evidence was found for international connections in âLondon, Germany, the Bahamas, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Africa, Costa Rica, and âEurope.â There was also a file identified as âPalestinian.â (1) This Customs report raises the legitimate question of international connections for Satanic ritualistic abuse of children.
In a recent letter to Congresswoman Tauscher I wrote: âIn the latter regard, I think the populations at risk of targetting by Satanic Cults may be younger teens and preteens who are Internet proficient. In an article on Internet pedophiles: âpedophiles are using digital cameras to televise live, interactive molestations in cyberspaceâ (âCops Go Undercover Online to Nab Internet Pedophilesâ, SF Chronicle, December 7, 1998; pg A21). It was of further curiosity to me that the Internet child molestations cases in the later article did not mention a possible link to Satanic Cults opening up the question of whether or not Satanic Cults ârecruitâ children off the Internet for Satanic Rituals.
I would say that, on the behalf of the children and adults who have been subjected to Satanic ritualistic abuse that these acts are not be tolerated; that parents need to feel that their children are safe from this threat; and that any hint of it should be rapidly and throughly investigated as hate crimes in thought and deed.

Report of Investigation
To: Resident Agent in Charge Date: 021287 Subject: Finders
This office was contacted by the Tallahassee Police Department on February 5, 1987, who requested assistance in attempting to identify two adult males and six minor children, all taken into custody the previous day. The men, arrested and charged with multiple counts of child abuse, were being very evasive with police in the questions being asked of them pursuant the children and their condition.
This agent contacted SS/A, Bob Harrold, RAC/Reston, Virginia, and requested telephone numbers and names of police persons in area police departments in an attempt to follow-up on two leads which were a Virginia license number and that the children had commented about living in a Washington, D.C., commune.
Subsequently, this office received a telephone call from the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department inquiring about the men and children. This office put the MPD and the TPD in contact with each other.
Walter F. Kreitlow II Special Agent
Fredric D. Maiduk Resident Agent in Charge
Office of Enforcement 227 N. Bronough St. Rm 6045 Tallahassee, FL 32301
DETAILS OF INVESTIGATION:
On Thursday, February 5, 1987, this office was contacted via telephone by Sergeant JoAnn VanMETER of the Tallahassee Police Department, Juvenile Division. Sgt. VanMETER requested assistance in identifying two adult males and six minor children ages 7 years to 2 years.
The adult males were tentatively identified by TPD as Michael HOULIHAN and Douglas AMMERMAN, both of Washington, D.C. who were arrested the previous day on charges of child abuse.
The police had received an anonymous telephone call relative two well-dressed white men wearing suits and ties in Myers Park, (Tallahassee), apparently watching six dirty and unkempt children in the playground area. HOULIHAN and AMMERMAN were near a 1980 Blue Dodge van bearing Virginia license number XHW-557, the inside of which was later described as foul-smelling filled with maps, books, letters, with a mattress situated to the rear of the van which appeared as if it were used as a bed, and the overall appearance of the van gave the impression that all eight persons were living in it.
The children were covered with insect bites, were very dirty, most of the children were not wearing underwear and all of the children had not been bathed in many days.
The men were arrested and charged with multiple counts of child abuse and lodged in the Leon County Jail. Once in custody the men were somewhat evasive in their answers to the police regarding the children and stated only that they both were the childrenâs teachers and that all were enroute to Mexico to establish a school for brilliant children.
The children tentatively were identified as Mary (deleted), white female, age 7; (deleted) LIVINGSTON, white male, age 6; (deleted) FRANKLIN, white male, age 4; (deleted) EVANS, white female, age 3; B.B., white male, age 2; and that they lived in tents in a commune in the Washington, D.C., area and were going to Mexico to go to a school for smart kids.
This office contacted the Office of the RAC/DC and spoke with SS/A Bob Harrold. This agent requested telephone numbers and names of police persons in area departments that might be aware of said activities described by the children and to follow-up on leads which were the Virginia license number and a check on the menâs names with local law enforcement.
A short time later this office was contacted by Detective, Jim Bradley of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department. Bradley indicated that the case here in Tallahassee appeared to be strongly related to a case he was currently working in the Washington, D.C. area.
He stated that the actions of the two men in custody in Tallahassee relative the children just might give his case enough probable cause for search warrants to search premises occupied by a cult group called Finders.
This agent directed Bradley to telephone TPD and discuss with police directly any activities forthcoming relative the instant case. At this time it was determined that there was no Customs violations found to exist and therefore, this case is being closed pending receipt of additional information.

Subject: Customs cooperation/interest in Tallahassee/Washington MPD child abuse investigation.
On Thursday, 2/5/87, the duty agent, SS/A Bob Harrold, received a call from SS/A Walter Krietlow, USCS, Tallahassee, Florida. SS/A Kreitlow was seeking assistance in contacting an appropriate local police agency to coordinate a child abuse investigation in with the Tallahassee Police Department. SS/A Krietlow further requested assistance in checking some names, addresses and a vehicle through the Customs Child Pornography Unit data base, and stated there was some suspicion of the subjects being involved in supplying children for the production of child pornography. Further, he was informed by the Tallahassee Police Department that the children may have been enroute to Mexico from the Washington, D.C. area. The possibility of Customs interest in the investigation due to possible violations of the Child Protection Act of 1984, and the alleged nexus with the U.S./Mexican Border were discussed and agreed upon. SS/A Krietlow related the following background information. SS/A Krietlow was contacted by the Tallahassee Police Department for assistance in identifying six children and two adults taken into custody in the Tallahassee area. U.S. Customs was contacted because the police officers involved suspected the adults of being involved in child pornography and knew the Customs Service to have a network of child pornography investigators, and of the existence of the Child Pornography and Protection Unit. SS/A Krietlow stated the two adults were well dressed white males. They had custody of six white children (boys and girls), ages three to six years. The children were observed to be poorly dressed, bruised, dirty, and behaving like wild animals in a public park in Tallahassee. The police were notified by a concerned citizen and all eight persons were taken into custody. The subjects were living out of a white 1979 Dodge van, Virginia license no. XHW 557. Upon being taken into custody, the adult white males refused to cooperate, one of whom produced a âbusinessâ card with a name on one side and a statement on the other. The statement indicated that the bearer knew his constitutional rights to remain silent and that he intended to do so. Upon interviewing the children, the police officers found that they could not adequately identify themselves or their custodians. Further, they stated that they were enroute to Mexico to attend a school for âsmart kids.â SS/A Kreitlow was further advised the children were unaware of the function and purpose of telephones, televisions and toilets, and that the children had stated they were not allowed to live indoors and were only given food as a reward.
After receiving the request from Tallahassee, SS/A Harrold contacted me while I was on official business at Customs Headquarters. He requested that I conduct computer checks on the Customs Child Pornography Unit data base. The checks were to be conducted on the names, addresses, and a vehicle provided by SS/A Krietlow. After conducting the computer checks, I made direct contact with SS/A Krietlow to inform him that all the checks were negative. At that time I was informed by SS/A Krietlow that the Tallahassee police had discovered large quantities of records, to include computer discs and a U.S. passport in the van. From some of these records the police had obtained tentative identification of the two adults, and partial identification of the children. Furthermore, the two Washington, D.C. addresses had been discovered through these documents, one of which was verified through the vehicle registration. I advised SS/A Krietlow I was leaving Headquarters and he would be receiving a response to the remainder of his request from SS/A Harrold. I then left as stated and proceeded to conduct other business in the District.
A short time later, at approximately 11:30 a.m., SS/A Harrold contacted me by radio, and advised me that a Detective Jim Bradley of the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) was interested in the information provided by SS/A Krietlow, was in contact with Tallahassee, and would very probably be conducting search warrants in the area later in the day. He also informed me that U.S. Customs was invited to participate due to the continuing possibility of violations of law enforced by the Customs Service. As I was already in Washington, I terminated my other business and proceeded to make contact with Detective Bradley, Intelligence Division, MPD.
Upon contacting Detective Bradley, I learned that he had initiated an investigation on the two addresses provided by the Tallahassee Police Dept. during December of 1986. An informant had given him information regarding a cult, known as the âFindersâ operating various businesses out of a warehouse located at 1307 4th St., N.E., and were supposed to be housing children at 3918/3920 W St., N.W. The information was specific in describing âblood ritualsâ and sexual orgies involving children, and an as yet unsolved murder in which the Finders may be involved. With the information provided by the informant, Detective Bradley was able to match some of the children in Tallahassee with names of children known alleged to be in the custody of the Finders. Furthermore, Bradley was able to match the tentative ID of the adults with known members of the Finders. I stood by while Bradley consulted with AUSA Harry Benner and obtained search warrants for the two premises. I advised acting RAC SS/A Tim Halloran of my intention to accompany MPD on the execution of the warrants, received his permission, and was joined by SS/A Harrold. SS/A Harrold accompanied the team which went to 1307 4th St, and I went to 3918/20 W St.
During the execution of the warrant at 3918/20 W St., I was able to observe and access the entire building. I saw large quantities of childrenâs clothing and toys. The clothing consisting of diapers and clothes in the toddler to pre-school range. No children were found on the premises. There were several subjects on the premises. Only one was deemed to be connected with the Finders. The rest were renting living space from this individual. He was identified as Stuart Miles SILVERSTONE, DOB/061941, U.S. Passport No. (deleted). SILVERSTONE was located in a room equipped with several computers, printers, and numerous documents. Cursory examination of the documents revealed detailed instructions for obtaining children for unspecified purposes. The instructions included the impregnation of female members of the community known as the Finders, purchasing children, trading, and kidnapping. There were telex messages using MCI account numbers between a computer terminal believed to be located in the same room, and others located across the country and in foreign locations. One such telex specifically ordered the purchase of two children in Hong Kong to be be arranged through a contact in the Chinese Embassy there. Another telex expressed interest in âbank secrecyâ situations. Other documents identified interests in high-tech transfers to the United Kingdom, numerous properties under the control of the Finders, a keen interest in terrorism, explosives, and the evasion of law enforcement. Also found in the âcomputer roomâ was a detailed summary of the events surrounding the arrest and taking into custody of the two adults and six children in Tallahassee the previous night. There were also a set of instructions which appeared to be broadcast via a computer network which advised the participants to move âthe childrenâ and keep them moving through different jurisdictions, and instructions on how to avoid police attention.
One of the residents was identified as a Chinese National. Due to the telex discovered referencing the Chinese Embassy in Hong Kong, he was fully identified for future reference: WANG/Gengxin, DOB/092747, POB/Tianjin, Peopleâs Republic of China Passport No. (deleted), entered the U.S. on January 22, 1987, admitted until December 31, 1987. He is in the U.S. as a graduate student in the Anatomy Department of Georgetown University. His Visa was issued on November 10, 1986, in London, England, number 00143.
During the course of the evening, I contacted Sector 4 to initiate a TECS check on SILVERSTONE, and initiate an archives check on him for the last four years. I also contacted SS/A Halloran to keep him advised of the proceedings and asked for and received permission to contact SS/A John Sullivan of the CPPU to query some names through the CPPU data base. SS/A Halloran told me he would call Southeast Region Headquarters to keep them posted on the proceedings as well. I later contacted SS/A Sullivan for the stated purpose, and in the discussion that followed I gave him some background on the purpose of the request. I advised him that the information was not for dissemination at Headquarters, that Region was being notified, and that Region would probably contact Headquarters later if deemed necessary. SS/A Sullivan assured me that the information would go no further until official notification was made by Region. No positive matches were obtained from the CPPU data base. I was later joined at the W Street address by SS/A Harrold. SS/A Harrold advised me that there were extremely large quantities of documents and computer equipment at the warehouse, and that MPD was posting officers inside the building there and sealing the building until morning, in which a second warrant for that premises would be obtained and executed. SS/A Harrold also advised me that the news media had been notified and had been waiting for the execution of the warrant at the 4th Street address. Detective Bradley later stated that the MPD Public Information Officer had been contacted by a Tallahassee reporter. When it became apparent that the PIO had no information on the search warrants, the reporter contacted local media representatives and a check of public records containing the affidavits for the search warrants disclosed the locations and purpose of the warrants. Detective Bradley surmised that someone on the Tallahassee Police Department was the original source of the information for the press. I advised SS/A Halloran of the involvement of the press, and he stated that he would, in turn, relay the information to Region. SS/A Harrold and I assisted in the transport of the evidence seized pursuant to the warrant and cleared MPD after the press left the area.
On Friday, 2/6/87, I met Detective Bradley at the warehouse on 4th Street, N.E. I duly advised my acting group supervisor, SS/A Don Bludworth. I was again granted unlimited access to the premises. I was able to observe numerous documents which described explicit sexual conduct between the members of the community known as Finders. I also saw a large collection of photographs of unidentified persons. Some of the photographs were nudes, believed to be of members of the Finders. There were numerous photos of children, some nude, at least one of which was a photo of a child âon displayâ and appearing to accent the childâs genitals. I was only able to examine a very small amount of the photos at this time. However, one of the officers presented me with a photo album for my review. The album contained a series of photos of adults and children dressed in white sheets participating in a âblood ritual.â The ritual centered around the execution of at least two goats. The photos portrayed the execution, disembowelment, skinning and dismemberment of the goats at the hands of the children. This included the removal of the testes of a male goat, the discovery of a female goatâs âwombâ and the âbaby goatsâ inside the womb, and the presentation of a goatâs head to one of the children.
Further inspection of the premises disclosed numerous files relating to activities of the organization in different parts of the world. Locations I observed are as follows: London, Germany, the Bahamas, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Africa, Costa Rica, and âEurope.â There was also a file identified as âPalestinian.â Other files were identified by member name or âprojectâ name. The projects appearing to be operated for commercial purposes under front names for the Finders. There was one file entitled âPentagon Break-In,â and others referring to members operating in foreign countries. Not observed by me but related by an MPD officer were intelligence files on private families not related to the Finders. The process undertaken appears to be have been a systematic response to local newspaper advertisements for babysitters, tutors, etc. A member of the Finders would respond and gather as much information as possible about the habits, identity, occupation, etc., of the family. The use to which this information was to be put is still unknown. There was also a large amount of data collected on various child care organizations.
The warehouse contained a large library, two kitchens, a sauna, hot-tub, and a âvideo room.â The video room seemed to be set up as an indoctrination center. It also appeared that that the organization had the capability to produce its own videos. There were what appeared to be training areas for children and what appeared to be an altar set up in a residential area of the warehouse. Many jars of urine and feces were located in this area.
I should also mention that both premises were equipped with satellite dish antennas.
I discussed the course of action to be taken by MPD with Detective Bradley. He stated that he was only interested in making the child abuse case(s). I was assured that all of the evidence would be available to U.S. Customs in furtherance of any investigative/criminal action pursued. MPD personnel were to begin around the clock review and sorting of the evidence until completed. Customs will have access after this is accomplished. This will include several U.S. Passports discovered during the search.
Upon leaving the 4th Street premises, I encountered a news media representative and was asked the reason behind U.S. Customs involvement in the investigation. I advised the reporter that I could not discuss anything and I referred her to the PAO/DC. I left immediately thereafter.
There is no further information available at this time. It will take three to five days for all the information to be sorted, reviewed and logged by the MPD. I will maintain contact with Detective Bradley until the evidence is again accessible.
Respectfully submitted,
Ramon J. Martinez Special Agent, USCS

On Thursday, February 5, 1987, Senior Special Agent Harrold and I assisted the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) with two search warrants involving the possible sexual exploitation of children. During the course of the search warrants, numerous documents were discovered which appeared to be concerned with international trafficking in children, high tech transfer to the United Kingdom, and international transfer of currency.
DETAILS OF INVESTIGATION:
On March 31, 1987, I contacted Detective Jim Bradley of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). I was to meet with Detective Bradley to review the documents seized pursuant to two search warrants executed in January, 1987. The meeting was to take place on April 2 or 3, 1987.
On April 2, 1987, I arrived at MPD at approximately 9:00 a.m. Detective Bradley was not available. I spoke to a third party who was willing to discuss the case with me on a strictly âoff the recordâ basis.
I was advised that all the passport data had been turned over to the State Department for their investigation. The State Department in turn, advised the MPD that all travel and use of the passports by the holders of the passports was within the law and no action would be taken. This included travel to Moscow, North Korea, and North Vietnam from the late 1950s to mid 1970s.
The individual further advised me of circumstances which indicated that the investigation into the activity of the Finders had become a CIA internal matter. The MPD report has been classified SECRET and was not available for review. I was advised that the FBI had withdrawn from the investigation several weeks prior and that the FBI Foreign Counter Intelligence Division had directed MPD not to advise the FBI Washington Field Office of anything that had transpired.
No further information will be available. No further action will be taken.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN BY LESD/TECS:
No action to be taken on the basis of this report.

Through a glass, very darkly Cops, spies and a very odd investigation
The case is almost seven years old now, but matters surrounding a mysterious group known as the Finders keep growing curiouser and curiouser.
In early February 1987, an anonymous tipster in Tallahasse, Fla, made a phone call to police. Two âwell dressed menâ seemed to be âsupervisingâ six dishevelled and hungry children in a local park, the caller said. The cops went after the case like bloodhounds, at least at first. The two men were identified as members of the Finders. They were charged with child abuse in Florida. In Washington, D.C. police and U.S. Customs Service agents raided a duplex apartment building and a warehouse connected to the group.
Among the evidence seized â detailed instructions on obtaining children for unknown purposes and several photographs of nude children.
According to a Customs Service memorandum obtained by U.S. News, one photo appeared âto accent the childâs genitalsâ. The more the police learned about the Finders, the more bizarre they seemed: There were suggestions of child abuse, Satanism, dealing in pornography and ritualistic animal slaughter.
None of the allegations was ever proved, however. The child abuse charges against the two men in Tallahassee were dropped; all six of the children were eventually returned to their mothers, though in the case of two, conditions were attached by a court. In Washington, D.C. police began backing away from the Finders investigation. The groups practices, the police said, were eccentric â not illegal.
QUESTIONS. Today, things appear to have changed yet again. The Justice Department has begun a new investigation into the Finders and into the groupâs activities. It is also reviewing the 1987 investigation into the group to determine whether that probe was closed improperly. Justice officials will not elaborate, except to say the investigation is âongoingâ and that it involves âunresolved mattersâ in relation to the Finders.
One of the unresolved questions involves allegations that the Finders are somehow linked to the Central Intelligence Agency. Custom Service documents reveal that in 1987, when Customs agents sought to examine the evidence gathered by Washington, D.C. police, they were told that the Finders investigation âhad become an internal matter.â
The police report on the case had been classified secret. Even now, Tallahassee police complain about the handling of the Finders investigation by D.C. police. âThey dropped this case, one Tallahasse investigator says, âlike a hot rock.â D.C. police will not comment on the matter. As for the CIA, ranking officials describe allegation about links between the intelligence agency and the Finders as âhogwashâ perhaps the result of a simple mix up with D.C. police. The only connection, according to the CIA: A firm that provided computer training to CIA officers also employed several members of the Finders.
The many unanswered questions about the Finders case now have Democratic Rep. Charlie Rose of North Carolina, chairman of the House Administration Committee, and Floridaâs Rep. Tom Lewis, a Republican, more than a little exercised. âCould our own government have something to do with this Finders organization and turned their backs on these children? Thatâs what all the evidence points to,â says Lewis. âAnd there is a lot of evidence. I can tell you this: Weâve got a lot of people scrambling, and that wouldnât be happening if there was nothing here.â
Perhaps. But the Finders say there is nothing there â at least nothing illegal. The Finders have never been involved in child abuse, pornography, Satanism, animal slaughter or anything of the kind, says the groupâs leader, Marion David Pettie. Pettie, too, says the group has never been connected to the CIA. In an interview with U.S. News, Pettie described the Finders as a communal, holistic-living and learning arrangement. The group numbers some 20 members, Pettie says; they do freelance journalism, research and âcompetitor intelligenceâ for a variety of mostly foreign clients. The Finders work for no foreign governments, Pettie says. Their duplex, in a residential Northwest Washington neighborhood, is decorated with global maps and bulletin boards. Residents in Culpepper, Va., 90 minutes from Washington, say the Finders operated an office there, too, from time to time. That office contained computer terminals and clocks reflecting different time zones from around the world.
CIA officials say they referred all matters concerning the Finders and the police investigation to the FBIâs Foreign Counterintelligence Division. FBI officials will not comment. Law enforcement sources say some of the Finders are listed in the FBIâs classified counterintelligence files.
None of this fazes Pettie. He says the CIAâs interest in the Finders may stem from the fact that his late wife once worked for the agency and that his son worked for a CIA proprietary firm, Air America. Overall, says Pettie, âweâre a zero security threat. When you donât do much of anything, and you donât explain, people start rumors about you.â To judge from the latest case, some of the rumors can last an awfully long time.

5 Most Terrifying Creatures On Earth
1. The Montauk Monster The Montauk Monster was a recent addition to the world of cryptozoology. The animal carcass was found washed ashore on a beach in Montauk, New York, in July 2008. There are many great quality photos taken of the monster, as well as the accounts of thousands of tourist and locals that saw the creature. To make things even more disturbing, the body disappeared from the beach, fueling conspiracy theories involving a government cover-up. However, scientists that examined photos of the monster dismissed the idea that this is a new animal to be added in the zoology books. A strange looking raccoon that was in the water for too long seems the most plausible explanation. The Montauk Monster is not an isolated case, and the sea often grants strange looking creatures on beaches around the world.
2. Alien Corpse in Thai Ceremony
Things get complicated when the bodies of strange creatures emerge in rural communities where religion and traditions have an important word to say. This photo shows some villagers attending a traditional Buddhist burial ceremony. However, the body on the table is not human, or at least not entirely human. From what we can see, this is the horrific experiment that tried to create a human-cow hybrid. Who did this, remains a mystery, with aliens and secret organizations ranking as prime suspects. However, there is a pretty solid chance for this strange-looking offspring to be the result of nature alone. Genetic abnormalities, although exceedingly rare, cause the newborn to look odd. With only a bunch of photos left and the body buried in a secret location, there is no way to say for sure that this was an alien experiment or just a mistake of nature.
3. Cohomo Monster
Cohomo is an abbreviation which comes from The Cole Hollow Road Monster. The creature belongs to the great Bigfoot family. First sighted in 1972 in Tazewell County, Illinois, the Cohomo quickly became the worst nightmare of people driving at late hours. As you probably know, the Bigfoot phenomenon is Americaâs dearest obsession, and many local variations appeared over the decades. The Cohomo case exploded on May 25, 1972, when more than 200 eyewitness accounts mentioned the beast. It certainly was something more than a shared optical illusion, although mass-hysteria could have easily given local bears and hobos a more dramatic appearance. The photo presented here is a bit unclear to be put beyond all doubt. If something like this exists, how would you react to see it appearing in your flashlight?
4. Piglet With Monkeyâs Face
Call it the result of environmental pollution or a strange animal hybrid made possible by alien technology. The photos and even video prove this is not an elaborate hoax. The piglet was born in the city of Ciego de Avila, Cuba, and managed to survive only four days. However, it was enough to make the owner rich and famous. We donât know what happened to the body, but we have all reasons to believe a hoard of scientist rushed to get their hands on such an oddity. However, chances are authorities got there first and made sure the secret behind the abnormality stays a secret. We have a lot of reasons to believe the piglet with a monkeyâs face was the reason the US got friendly with Cuba again.
5. Pope Lick Monster
The Pope Lick Monster is yet another American legend that has high chances of being based on something real. Part-man part-goat, the creature has only one thing in mind â to lure its victims and kill them in a savage way. Most reports seem to indicate that the monster resides near a railroad trestle bridge over Pope Lick Creek, Kentucky. The Pope Lick Monster received wider attention when a movie based on the story was released. We donât know whether to consider the photo an elaborate hoax or the most concrete evidence to date. Realistic animal costumes are becoming increasingly easy to buy. All it takes is one bored teenager with another friend filming to produce such a shot.
