5D's Episode 27... with an “Uncut” Dub?! (Re-Edited 4Kids Dub/Japanese OST - Revised)
“A World Without Light -- The Dark Synchro Frozen Fitzgerald!”/”A Web of Deceit (Part 1)″
Everybody listen!
Took long enough to finish up and polish (partly because of work and activism life actually picking up a bit), but here’s a brand-new “dub-uncut” episode! With my first few takes in episodes 23-26 newly revised, I was looking forward to working on 27 and starting fresh again, lol. In case this is the first you’re hearing about my mini-project here, let’s get you up to speed:
So, the official Spanish YGO channel on YouTube flubbed a few uploads of the 5D’s dub such that they ended up uploading a few episodes of the English dub instead of the Latin American dub (21-29)–but with none of 4Kids’s background music! Which meant that I could swoop in and re-insert the original Japanese soundtrack (which I did by matching each track to how it was looped in the episode), but I wanted to do more by also tweaking the dub itself so that not only was it matching the original footage, but the dialogue was more in line with the original dialogue timing-wise (since I couldn’t salvage much of what they changed). Hence, the “dubbed uncut” gimmick here. To this end, I’ve also used dialogue from Duel Links where applicable, or even borrowed audio from other episodes with the vocals isolated to lend to that effect.
Check out the masterpost of episodes I’ve done here!
Check out this episode’s WIP videos! WIP #1 WIP #2 WIP #3 WIP #4 WIP #5
So, this one was fun to do particularly because overall, save for the, er... butchering that happened on explaining the Dark Synchro mechanic (4Kids wut) and the rewrite of Carly’s interaction with her Editor-in-Chief (and making Carly a “blogger” lol), the dialogue was already more or less in line with the Japanese version, which meant that I was more or less just removing a lot of the fluff as I added back the OST. As I did in 22, 24, and 26, I added subs for the scenes where 4Kids rewrote things a bit too much for my taste (so, the scenes I mentioned above, but also the occasional line or a few), but of course these subs will be optional in the MKV I release on NAC for this. I also added back some SFX and tried to remove the dub’s replacement SFX in most cases, though I had to swap out the SFX as Speed Warrior was tuning with Junk Synchron since 4Kids had a tendency to add some new one over the original SFX and made it too loud to work with the Yusei chant I put there. And I translated the OP/ED credits in Last Train and CROSS GAME, revamping my singable lyrics a bit for Last Train while drafting new ones for CROSS GAME which I’ll post soon; you can see my Last Train translation in the second WIP video and CROSS GAME’s here. Full process breakdown below the cut.
Also, major thanks to yugidmx5 for providing A+ rips of the “The Day Begins/Tenpei” theme in the Carly/Angela scene, the “Vision of Tragedy” theme as Yusei and Ruka talk about the Satellite’s future, and the alternate “Dark Signers” tune which plays as we first see them and then again between the Dark Signer drones recruiting and Yusei chasing Dark-Signer!Dick down (before it transitions to the OST-released version once Yusei gets to the building under construction); I know that since these came out well, he’s working on better rips for some or most of the unreleased OST, so stay tuned there (I also drafted up a full version of the alternate DS theme, but had to get creative since they didn’t play all of it in this alternate style; will post soon). And thanks to Tiny Spider Productions, who provided the “shock” SFX playing as Carly sees Yusei’s arm actually glowing in her car, some inspo here/there for dialogue fixes, and provided CurtisH from CastingCallClub’s recording he did voicing a line from Tanner translating the original line about the four Signers they know which 4Kids cut short.
I hope folks enjoy! Just breezing through 28 often for lines to use here, I can tell it’s going to be a headache because they did throw in a lot more jankiness in the dialogue... So, fun. 🙃 Once I handle finalizing my subs for GX 56 (and possibly 57 due to how long this took), I’ll start drafting it out; stay tuned~
(And if you're able to reblog for visibility, it’d be appreciated given Tumblr’s suckage with links 🙏🏽)
Breakdown, breakdown~
So, I used Duel Links audio for the twins to handle the Noteworthy/Showcased Cards bit (we’ll see if I still can in 28... And as the twins are voiced by Eileen Stevens in Duel Links but not yet in 5D’s [that happens in 65], bear with me lol), and I also translated the sign for this hardsub in Photoshop, masking in the Fitzgerald card and Rua and Ruka’s heads over it in Sony Vegas.
Moving to the episode proper, a second was trimmed from the shot of the stadium in the TV Rally/co are using once it tunes in, and I couldn’t properly loop the “Yusei!” shouts to cover it, so I just filled in the audio with the crowd just cheering. In the Carly/Angela scene, I removed Angela’s extra lines about her makeup and hair while Carly was getting ready, then tweaked Angela’s line on camera to remove her last name (which we never learn originally) and move her lines about “Fusei Yudo” winning to play sooner while removing Carly’s “one journalist to another” as she walks up to correct her (as this scene was rewritten, there are subs to show the original dialogue). Looped chants of “Yusei!” to remove his internal “pointing out the obvious” monologue before the OP.
After the OP, I used the JP audio to keep the doctors moving Jack quiet (hopefully you don’t notice the chants changing lol), then as Yanagi runs over, I replaced his bit about Yusei having “a brand new enemy” in the media with “we should all get going” from 26. The Godwin/Lazar scene stays the same since it was accurate, but I did have to put the end of Rex’s “that’s the only thing that matters” line on another track so Lazar’s gasp would play when it should (they added a second to his talking in the dub). The Yusei/co scene in the tunnel stays mostly the same, just switched to the JP audio as the flashback to the Satellite vision happened, then as Yusei had a quick one before gasping, I recycled a gasp and a “hmm” from elsewhere to cover the commercial-inducing monologue they gave him in the dub. For the press conference scene, I thought about removing the one “That’s right, Ted” reporter’s line since he’s quiet originally, but thought “whatever,” and then I spaced out Carly’s line as she reads her fortune to match her Japanese line’s pace and remove some of the fluff. I switched to the JP audio after Carly asked about Yusei’s arm glowing to remove Rex’s comment over it, then stitched up a “Perhaps; still, I didn’t see that” mixing his line there with a “still” from 23. Carly’s line as she’s excited about Goodwin dodging her question (originally just “I’ll keep moving forward too!” [she references her fortune a lot more]) was longer in the dub, so I cut out the “which means I’m onto something” for use later. For Carly’s chat with her Editor-in-Chief, I included subs because of the rewrite, but I did shorten Carly’s line just before “bring some dirt and you might still have a job” which was lengthened by 4Kids. Removed a lot of Carly’s fluff as she began to watch the Yusei duel footage via the JP audio, then stitched together “Goodwin tried to give me that bit but [the whole world will know what Goodwin’s trying to hide]”, the latter bit coming from Carly’s monologue as she’s running at the end of the ep, then switched to the JP audio to remove Carly’s fluff about living in her car. Then, as we see the Dark Signers looming, because 4Kids removed the commercial break here, I kept only Demak and Kalin’s chuckling and Roman’s “lower the curtains” line over the desk shot, then looped some of his laughing from after the eyecatch to lead into it.
After the eyecatch, I made use of his “Goodwin assembled his Signers” bit, recycled a little chuckling, then cut Roman’s reference to Shakespeare to just the “tangled web” line (thanks to yugidmx5 also providing the SFX for this scene, I was able to move Roman’s laughing to play where it should after he releases his spiders). Moving to Yanagi drawing the Crimson Dragon, I only kept his “saw it the once” line while using Japanese Rua and Ruka’s interested gasps to fill a fluff gap, then combined two bits of audio to get a [slightly] awkward “t[ail]” to fix 4Kids’s dumb error claiming he had the Head birthmark; accordingly, made Leo say “What about it?” instead of “What about the Head?”. CurtisH’s line for Tanner comes in here, with a slight tweak or two to match the lip-flaps more, then JP audio as we see all the Signers so far to remove Leo’s dialogue. Meanwhile, for Jack’s hospital scene, I translated the “No Visitors” sign Mikage walks past (along with fixing “Atlus” to “Atlas”). The Dark Signer recruitment scene also gets some subs, then I used the JP audio from when we see Dark Signer!Dick walking to Yusei’s birthmark beginning to glow; yugidmx5 providing the SFX was a big help here, too. Yusei runs out to chase Dick down, and then when he sees him inside the under-construction building, I took “Who are you” from later in the episode, but added a more question-ending “u?” to flesh the sound out a bit (since the line was “Who are you and what’s going on”). I took “Fine, then” and “What are you planning to do to the Satellite” from 28 (which I’ll likely cut as it was added offscreen dialogue), and TSP provided a vocal-isolated cut of Dick’s line about his master (because 4Kids cut his shot short by a second or two and played it as the SFX for the zoomout as his Disk activated played).
They begin the duel, and here I just kept “What’s going on?” from the line I noted earlier, recycled some laughing from Dick to match the JP script, then shortened his line about their being offered up “by the light” to work with the new timing. Dick begins his turn, but I recycled an “It’s my turn now” line from later for accuracy, then his setting-a-card line is cut short at his ending his turn as Yusei looks on. Carly, driving nearby and seeing lights from the duel off in the distance, gets her reference to the Goodwin “sheen from Yusei’s Runner got in your eye” line that I cut replaced with the “I’m onto something” I noted before. Yusei gets a recycled “It’s my move!” line from 24 to start his turn, tweaked to remove the drawing SFX that happens in it, then to remove a dub SFX I used a Duel Links line to fill out “I activate the Tuning [Spell Card]”. “I summon Junk Synchron” comes from 24 (and “Level-2-or-below Monster from my Graveyard” comes from his Graceful Revival explanation in episode 3), then--thanks to Arian over on NAC reuploading some HQ dub episodes--a better-quality vocal rip of his “Level-3 Junk Synchron, tune with Level-2 Speed Warrior!” line from 87, along with a better-quality rip of his “From two come one” chant and “Form the road of light!” from Duel Links. Yusei shouts “Battle!” from Duel Links, then I slowed down his line at “[Attack his Blizzard Li]zard” to end it there (and remove the “warm Satellite welcome” fluff). As Blizzard Lizard’s effect activates, I combined an “I activate,” “Blizzard Lizard’s special ability,” and “now” for a better line than “Blizzard Lizard’s special ability is going on.” Yusei’s lines after being damaged and realizing he damaged Dick too are spaced out to match the JP script, then I borrowed Yusei’s line on setting two cards from episode 3. Then, when Dick plays Ice Mirror, I stitched up an explanation (since the Card Interruption does it for him) combining Call of the Haunted’s explanation with a few other pieces of dialogue (thanks to TSP for the inspo). I cut Dick’s “Now I’ll play” line there to remove the dub’s zooming-in SFX, and then made Dick’s line about his third Blizzard Lizard end right before the split-screen with all three of them to remove the dub’s split-screen SFX. I thought about replacing Yusei’s “three’s a crowd” line with “What’s that all about” from later, but couldn’t figure out a way to fill the line in before that, so I left it, but didn’t let Dick acknowledge it by just recycling “With that done” to replace “Well, how about [I release]”, then after Yusei reacts to his Dark Tuner, I recycled some chuckling to match the JP script and trimmed his line about its “power to extinguish;” the Dark Synchro “explanation” gets some subs to actually explain it, then I looped Carly’s panting as she runs to cover the “Goodwin’s trying to hide” line I moved to earlier, and recycled/amplified Dick’s laughing at various points through the ep to remove Yusei’s episode-ending monologue.
In the preview, I just recycled Yusei’s “No way...” and “A Dark Synchro Summon?!” while borrowing Carly’s lines about the Dark Tuner from 28, then Yusei’s line about getting his answers to end it. I had to speed up the OST version of the preview tune to match the pace here, then trimmed it and ended it with the JP audio for the quick fade-out.

Reading Tarot Like the Fool
I grew up in a small, conservative Christian community in New England. I went to church school until I was in junior high. Until I was eleven or so, I could count on one hand the people I knew who weren’t members of my family or members of my church. It was a small world, smaller because women weren’t allowed to speak in church or on religious subjects with men or hold jobs outside the home.
It didn’t take very long for me to know that life wasn’t for me, but I had to pretend that it was until I was free to go to college. I lived for freedom, counting down the years and then the months until I could get away and live my own life.
Then I left. And I was utterly lost. If life was a number line starting at 1, I would have been at 0. I had no idea who I was, what I was doing, or where I was going. I was in Fool time. I was off the map.
So, I did the only thing you can do when you don’t know where you are and no one is looking for you: I started exploring. I studied philosophy, psychology, art history, and literature. I eventually got a degree in English only because my advisor absolutely forbid me to stop changing my major. When I ran out of undergrad, I went to a graduate school that didn’t require you to know what you were studying—or even what academic program you were in—until you had to write a thesis. Everyone around me thought I was crazy, but I had an instinct that the way forward for me was to travel light and cover as much ground as possible. When you don’t know what you’re looking for, how do you know where to look to find it? The only solution is to look everywhere.
The Holy, Bellowing Fool
Look up the word “fool,” and you’ll see that the origin of the word is the Latin word for “bellows” or “empty bag.” To be a fool is to be empty. The dictionary says “empty headed.” It’s tempting to go from empty headed to ignorant or stupid, but an empty bag has room to be filled. The poet Keats called this “negative capability.” Being in a place of negative capability means that there is room in your head for new ideas. You don’t approach everything you see with a firm set of assumptions. You know you don’t know everything. You’re teachable. The Buddhists call this ”beginners mind.”
The Fool is a beginner. He doesn’t know anything but what he sees. He is like the child in “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” The child might not be the only one in the crowd who sees that the emperor is naked, but he is the only one whose head isn’t so full of manners that he can’t tell the truth.
Being a fool isn’t always about speaking your mind and hoping for the best. In Medieval Europe, the king’s fool had an essential role in court. His job was ostensibly to make the king laugh, but his real job was to say the things no one else in court could say. In an age when the king could lop off your head for no reason at all, being a fool was a careful dance of wisdom and cunning. A fool needed the wisdom to see the truth under the facade of court and the cunning to speak the truth in a way the king could hear. This is a more mature face of the fool, closer to the idea of the holy fool, the saint in ancient times who went around town doing crazy things to snap people out of their super-serious assumptions about what it means to be holy.
Another face of the holy fool is the trickster. The trickster wears many faces all around the world. In ancient Greece, he was Hermes and Prometheus. In Norse mythology, he’s Loki and Odin. For some Native Americans, he’s Raven or Coyote. In Hinduism, his name is Krishna. Like his name suggests—and the trickster is, for some reason, always male, according to Lewis Hyde—his role in society is to play tricks. “Pushing, goading, jabbing the kings and heroes whenever they turn away from the inner world of truth,” Rachel Pollack says.
She points out that he is carrying a wand. In the major arcana, the Magician, Chariot driver, and the World dancer are the only other archetypes who carry wands. While the Magician and Chariot driver carry theirs “self-consciously, with a powerful grip,” the fool and World dancer “hold their wands so casually we hardly notice them.” The fool is even using his wand to carry his bag. While the other wands in the major arcana are white, the fool’s wand is black. Black is the color of “all things being possible, infinite energy of life before consciousness has constructed any boundaries.” The Fool does not know his own power. This means he can’t use it consciously, but it also means his power cannot destroy him.
Ultimately, though, the Fool is a light-hearted card. If you are working with the Fool, Michelle Tea says that “the Fool wants you to be spontaneous…If it is bathed in optimism and takes you into unknown territory, the Fool wants you doing it.”
The Polyglot Fool
Tarot is a language of the soul. There are many other languages of the soul. Just like spoken languages, there are ideas that overlap, and there are ideas that are found in one language and not in others. If you want to know about longing and nostalgia, ask someone who speaks Portuguese about saudade. English is one of the world’s most preeminent languages for swearing, and there are branches of philosophy that are nearly impossible to understand without a basic working knowledge of how to construct a German verb.
When you know lots of things and you bring what you know into your practice of reading Tarot, it increases your literacy. The cards are literally able to say more things to you.
For example, Tarot has a sun card, and astrology also works with the sun. The sun is an important part of Wicca and the Norse, Egyptian, and Greek religions. This morning, I was reading a theory from an anthropologist’s doctoral thesis from a hundred years ago that Arthur is a memory of a Celtic sun god and the tales of the round table are all that are left of his lore. The Anasazi and the Romans planned their cities around the path of the sun, and Japan was once known as the Empire of the Sun. Florida and California are obsessed with the fact that it’s sunny there, and there are places in the north called the Land of the Midnight Sun. The place I live right now is defined by sun season and no-sun season. There is a song by They Might Be Giants about the sun and a Beatles song and a children’s song about “Mr. Sun” that is currently stuck in my head and driving me crazy. Those of you who are more scientifically minded than me can probably find a lot of meaning in the finer details of the sun’s nuclear reactions or whatever it is that makes the sun burn.
I’m sure that if we put our heads together, we could come up with dozens of other references. Any of those references could inform your readings as long as you—and the person you’re reading for—find meaning in it. You could draw the sun card and have it mean that the person is going to move to a place with a strong association with the sun. It could mean that they need to work on developing their ego. It could refer to one of the solar holidays. If your client venerates a sun god, that card could point to a message from them.
You might be feeling a bit dizzy right now wondering how you know which reference to choose, but that’s a good thing. It means that you have possibilities. Knowing which one to choose is a matter of trusting your intuition, which we’ll deal with later.
Begin Each Reading Foolishly
When you begin a reading, be the Fool. Explore everything. Make as many connections as you can. If a card reminds you of someone from your favorite TV show, write it down in your journal. Find yourself assigning cards to all the characters in Harry Potter? Fantastic! (And I want to see!) Collect as many connections with each card as you can.

What is the Divine Comedy?
The Divine Comedy is a selection of books, each based on the ideas of Inferno (Hell), Purgatorio (Purgatory), and Paradiso (Heaven). It was written in 1320 by Italian poet, Dante Alighieri, to teach people about the possibilities of the afterlife and understanding how their actions could affect their own journey through it.
It is written in the first person, documenting Dante’s journey through Inferno, Purgatorio, and then to Paradiso. He is guided through Inferno and Purgatorio by Virgil, a famous poet of Roman antiquity who wrote the Aeneid and was a huge literary figure of the time, then through Paradiso by Beatrice, a woman based off of a woman whom Dante had strong feelings for, but sadly died at a young age.
Dante’s views of Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso, are a huge mix of different theology and culture, he mixes Christian theology and pagan Greco-Roman myth, in a sense rewriting Greco-Roman myth so that its characters, including the gods, can co-exist with Christianity in a way that makes logical sense. Charon, the Greek mythological figure who ferries souls to the underworld, now ferries the damned to Hell. Satan himself is referred to as Dis, another name for Pluto, the god of the underworld.
‘All these references to history, myth and scripture end up being rhetorical ammunition for Dante to comment on the politics of his day, the way some of us might use instantly recognisable gifs from movies or TV shows to make sense of what’s happening in our world now.‘
For something so religion-centred, it’s interesting seeing it be used with a political stance in mind, as religion is often seen as simply worshipping and praising God/s, and not using it to better someone’s political ambitions.
‘While in Heaven, the Byzantine Emperor Justinian appears and adds his two florins about the French king Charles of Valois, who was trying to undermine the Holy Roman Empire by lending military muscle to the papacy: “Let young Charles not think the Lord/Will change his eagle-bearing coat of arms/For sprays of lilies, nor that a toy sword/And putty shield will work like lucky charms”. That, via the 2013 translation of Clive James, was a personal score for Dante to settle as well, since the forces that had aligned with Charles had had him exiled from Florence – for almost the last 20 years of his life he was barred from his beloved city.’
It seemed almost for a way for Dante himself to get across his own views, and dreams also, being led by Virgil, his literary hero, and then by Beatrice, his lost crush, and to get across his views in a way which will be heard.
The imagination behind his works has helped influence countless aspects of media, even up to modern day. His depictions of all three spheres are of pure imagination, inspiration drawn from existing epics and mythology, but at its centre it is wholly fictitious, his playfulness with words bringing hidden meaning as his images come to life.
Unlike many religious texts, Dante chose to write the Comedy in Florentine Tuscan, unlike the more conventional Latin. Florentine Tuscan became the lingua franca of Italy as a result of The Divine Comedy, helping to establish Florence as the creative hub of the Renaissance.

It is this activating dimension of popular free radio that most distinguishes it from the usual pacifying operations of the mass media and that also posed the greatest threat to the authorities; if people were just sitting at home listening to strange political broadcasts, or being urged to participate in conventional, organised political actions such as demonstrations that would be tolerable but once you start mobilising a massive and unpredictable political affectivity and subjectivation that is autonomous, self-referential and self-reinforcing, then this is a cause for panic on the part of the forces of social order, as was amply demonstrated in Bologna in 1977.

What I'm saying is, instead of trying to figure out which existing translation is most accurate, one can learn the languages, and of course the history, and do their own translation. Another thing, translating English to Arabic may have "corny" results i.e. the sentence may sound poetic with a deep meaning in English but very silly & childish in Arabic.

To support my argument, I will present several examples of the current media environments and personal experience, particularly in relation to music and music industries since music is one of the important mass cultural forms, representing current trends of peoples' mind and thinking. Without his work in the 1950s and '60s, there would be no field of study that sought to explain how the nuances and great sweeps of human history are made possible by media of communication—how media determine the thoughts and actions of people and society, in a soft” way. We know about it because we were at least, up to the coming of the Social Networks, reading books, listen to all types of different genre and good music and that has kept us as a "Sane Society' in this day and age. Then, tickled by curiosity, he read it and at the same time compared it with the previous translations. So long as Man Mind has existed, from the crude forms of mass mobilization to contemporary Meida technological mind control, it has always been the desire and aim of those who are rich, and have time to fine-tune and fine-chissel their distorted and concocted strategy of mass control to set and determine the final outcome, social arrangements and reality. Apartamente 3 camere cluj
I need to let it out. I had basically no information on the nation of Romania only five brief years prior, when I came here unexpectedly. What struck a chord were pictures of Dracula, Frankenstein, and under-thought about stranded kids, the sort that were highlighted in raising money specials that showed up on TV when I was a child. At any rate I can say that I knew without a doubt that it existed, thus did it's territory of Transylvania. That is halfway in opposition to what I was educated in grade school, coincidentally, when our instructor guaranteed us that Transylvania was just a storybook land and in this manner we need not be scared that the ghastly animals that possess it really exist! Today, after five years, I have a profoundly extraordinary and significantly more all around educated perspective on Romania. The things that used to strike a chord about this nation, infrequently do any longer. At the point when I recall about my old assumptions of Romania, it never stops to shock me the extraordinary distinction between the scandalous legends and astounding reality about this nation.Apartamente 3 camere cluj Presently, all things considered, I am caught by numerous individuals of very similar things that old Roman sovereigns like Cesar and Napoleon found so appealing about this spot. (Romania was a piece of the Roman Empire and takes it name from the Latin word for Rome.) From extraordinary regular assets to superb mountain and ocean side scenes, Romania is a spot that has a tad bit of all that you would discover somewhere else and various things you can't discover elsewhere. What's more, with respect to Transylvania, my educator was directly on one point - it is a storybook land-yet, actually, for it's magnificence and that of it's kin.Apartamente 3 camere cluj At last as concerns Romania however, the main disclosure I made as I continued looking for reality with regards to this place where there is legends, is the gigantic land speculation expected that exists here. Romania gives the financial specialist an outstanding occasion to profit by the climb of an eastern square nation to the European Community. The timetime line this chance, nonetheless, is restricted. Romania is one of the last European nations in rising talks with the EU and it is projected to enter in either 2007 or 2008. The assumption around this trademark occasion has brought about genuinely necessary financial and government change, making conditions more appropriate for unfamiliar speculation. The pre-climb energy has additionally offered route to a sensational expansion in land costs as of late, particularly in significant urban communities and traveler regions. For instance, a companion of our own purchased a 2-room condo in focal Bucharest in mid 2002 for $25,000 USD. Today his loft is esteemed at 75,000 EURO ($100,000 USD) and the measure of intrigued purchasers is all the more then sufficient. So much in this way, that potential purchasers have really posted commercials on the section entryway to his high rise expressing that they are excitedly hoping to purchase a condo in the structure or a close by one. This companion of our own can decide to sell his loft today at a huge benefit or clutch it until closer to the real rising of Romania to the EU, permitting him to profit by the best conceivable gratefulness in estimation of his property. During the interim, he could keep on leasing the loft at 700 EURO ($890 USD) a month or get in on the burge oning transient rental market which offers an option in contrast to the over-valued lodging rates in the city, and with a very decent inhabitance rate, lease the condo on a day by day or week by week premise at 50 Euro for every evening. Our companion is only one of endless unfamiliar residents and Romanians who have as of now benefitted enormously from interest in the Romanian land market. However, as you will before long find in this article, there are still better arrangements out there to be had then the one he and others have so far profited by. While the costs have just bounced altogether as of late, the close certain theory is that they will keep on rising drastically until the hour of the rising of Romania into the European Union. The assurance of this hypothesis is reinforced by the 10% ascent in expense of houses, condos, and property in Bucharest over the time of December 23, 2004 and January 5, 2005. With the measure of intrigued customers adequately high this implies that a speculator might have purchased and sold a property and made a 10% benefit in less then fourteen days in the Romanian land market while the person in question was commending the special seasons with family or caught up with skiing. The astounding the truth is that such open doors for significant benefit keep on existing, for the time being in any event, here in Romania. In the legislative hall city of Bucharest, arrangements can in any case be found for speculators with prepared money from merchants searching for fast cash. Another extraordinary hypothesis is office space in Bucharest. At 1.2 Euro per square meter, Bucharest is presently near the expense of office space in Vienna which is right now at 1.8 Euro per square meter. These costs keep on quickening. Such chances however are just the start. While the general over-assessment of land in Bucharest has made costs rise and made the normal expense of section higher then only quite a long while prior, this very reality, gives obvious sign that sharp financial specialists can keep on profiting by this over-assessment of property estimation in the pandemonium encompassing Romania's foreseen EU passage. It is for the most part held that costs will keep on rising pointedly until leveling off, or maybe dropping marginally, after the passage of Romania into the European Union. This has made a brief timeframe period in which speculators can yield genuine turnaround on their ventures and those wishing to migrate can do as such while getting in at a decent deal. The smartest choice for speculation arranged loft trackers in Bucharest today is very good quality extravagance condos. The potential for benefit off of lower to center end condos has started to change off as costs have just risen nearer their last anticipated levels. An extravagance loft notwithstanding, which can at present be had for between 120 to 200,000 Euro (2-3 rooms), will probably move in worth 10-20% every year, throughout the following two years paving the way to EU rising. By taking a gander at the cost of extravagance condos in any European Union state house city versus Bucharest, the legislative center city of Romania, one can notice the extraordinary divergence in costs which actually exists right now between the extravagance loft market here refrains in EU state house urban areas. While the financial specialist trusts that his speculation will develop he can lease his loft for 1,500 to 2,000 Euro for each month, further adding altogether to his general benefit. The quantity of global organizations present in the city makes this a generally simple total to get for such a spot on a somewhat reliable premise. . Now it stands to make reference to that any land buy made by an unfamiliar individual can be financed by renting accessible through just a single Romanian organization, up to a 20-30% store is at first made. While Bucharest teems with venture opportunity, the open doors outside of the legislative center are additionally ready with potential for huge benefit coordinating or surpassing that of Bucharest. Romania offers an assorted scene going from a huge stretch of ocean side along the Black Sea Coast to the amazing Carpathian Mountain range in the fantasy place where there is Transylvania. In the middle of is just about a tad bit of all the other things, from characteristic recuperating springs, to flatlands exceptionally appropriate for agrarian use, to a large group of archaic and current urban areas, for example, Sibiu, Cluj, Brasov, and Timisoara, which is maybe the most Westernized of every single Romanian city. I talked with various land specialists about what the best theories for the land speculator would be, posing inquiries like expense of section, least timeframe for venture to develop, and so forth All appeared to concur that land, everywhere on the nation, was the smartest choice. Just a single issue however. Outsiders can't claim lacking area without a joined dwelling Notwithstanding, I found an escape clause that not just permits the unfamiliar financial specialist to possess land yet in addition to enhance his venture portfolio, on the off chance that he wishes, and put resources into the three most sultry regions of Romanian land simultaneously - land, homes, and office space. It's known as a REIT-Real Estate Investment Trust. A REIT is a security that sells like a stock on the significant trades and puts resources into land straightforwardly, either through properties or home loans. REITs get exceptional assessment contemplations, and normally offer financial specialists significant returns just as a profoundly fluid technique for putting resources into land. The REIT idea is in real life in Romania by a trustworthy American firm and is planned explicitly to empower unfamiliar speculators to have the occasion to put resources into Romania's most prominent land opportunity (land) and to broaden their land portfolio, even with least assets for venture. (The typical passage speculation is 25,000 Euro.) Investors ought to be eager to hold there cash in the portfolio for around 5 years. The yearly gains throughout that timeframe are relied upon to be very huge and speculators who presently have put resources into a REIT have just made extensive profits for their venture. A more logical diagram is accessible for those intrigued. Another promising improvement for Romanian land is made by the development of another 2 billion EURO super-interstate being acknowledged with the monetary support of the EU. This new super-expressway worked with the innovation of the American firm contracted to finish it constantly 2010-12 will drastically change the substance of Romania. It will cut the movement time among Bucharest and significant European urban communities down altogether and in a real sense make new significant objections in Romania, short-term. Slicing through the Western bit of the fortune of Transylvania, various towns and potential hotel regions having large amounts of crude regular magnificence w

Tastes on Rain
Zorya Vechernaya: “I can taste you on the rain. What else can I taste?” Mr Wednesday: “War.”
Now, I’m honestly not sure as I begin writing this, whether this is fandom Meta for the AMERICAN GODS tv show, intertextual analysis, or a post on Heathen mysticism. It’s probably all three, despite and because of the fact that while fiction is not the same as religious experience to the experiencer, it can nonetheless reveal certain essentials from a new angle. The book by @neil-gaiman and the show are not religious texts, any more than the Eddas are. What they share is that they are stories, told by humans, about the nature of divine and semi-divine figures. Figures that, really, are beyond questions of existence vs non existence. They simply are, and that beingness makes them big enough that we’re still telling and relishing their stories even if we do, or don’t, believe in them - thousands of years later .
And that’s important, because it says something about being human. Spoilers for S1E03,and AG as a whole below the cut.
When two old gods reminisce, what happens? Oh, to be sure, some of it’s flattery - McShane’s Wednesday’s velvet tones weaving a spectacle of glamour and long lost glories, of heat and wetness in the face of chilled old bones. It’s a con-job and Leachman’s eldest of the three sisters knows it, and knows-Wednesday-knows-she knows. Zorya informs him it will rain now, and Wednesday the lech, the lover asks when she was ever afraid of getting a little...wet.
For all that most human stories are about sex and death, and for all the show has not stinted on the sex-scenes, with all due respect to Bilquis, goddess of love, Queen of Sheba, this episode is perhaps the most sexual - if we understand sex as something more than coitus and a pleasurable exchange of fluids. If we see it as intercourse, what do we have?
intercourse (n.) mid-15c., "communication to and fro," ("In early use exclusively with reference to trade" [OED]), from Old French entrecors "exchange, commerce, communication" (12c., Modern French entrecours), from Late Latin intercursus "a running between, intervention," in Medieval Latin "intercommunication," from intercursus, past participle of intercurrere "to run between, intervene, mediate," from Latin inter "between" (see inter-) + currere "to run" (see current (adj.)). Sense of "frequent and habitual meeting and contact, social communication between persons" is from 1540s. Meaning "mental or spiritual exchange or intercommunication" is from 1560s. Meaning "sexual relations" (1798) probably is a shortening of euphemistic sexual intercourse (1771) with intercourse in its sense "social contact and relations."
Wednesday as middle, as mediator, as trader. Wednesday as hump-day. The Roman writer Tacitus, claimed that the pre-eminent god the Germanic tribes sacrificed to, was Mercury, in a clear case of interpretatio Romana. Mercury, god of thieves, merchants and conmen, the tricky-bastard god of language, messenger of the gods, leader of the souls of the dead. Mercredi, if you speak French. Miércoles, if you speak Spanish. Speak a Romance language, merc or some variant will probably mark that day. The legacy of Rome runs far.
In German however, the mark is Mittwoch. Mid-week. In English, Wednesday. Wodensdaeg. Language leads the soul, pulls people together, breaks them apart, twists them into new shapes - leads you down the garden path.
In the first episode, we are introduced to the god who becomes Mr. Wednesday as a god of war. It is not the kind of war we think of nowadays perhaps, less total destruction of the enemy, and more two sides fighting against each other until one prevails, or neither can - a subtle and important difference. Wednesday alters the coinflip that makes Shadow his man. It is this two sided-ness, this two-facedness, we see in Odin in the Eddas, too. He claims both sides when he hurls his spear over the warring hosts. It matters not who wins, only that there is the violent deathly intercourse between the two.
It is that which brings the wind to the becalmed Vikings, allows them to live, and also to die. It is the breath of Odin which is breathed into the driftwood that become Aske and Embla, the first humans of the Edda. He gives them that which may be stirred, may be aroused to fury; the wind that may be knife, or cooling breeze, or roaring, storming. And he gives them inspiration. The faculty to compose and remember poetry; to recall and to breathe life into past and future deeds and histories. He brings the gods and mortals the gift of magical language; charms to heal and harm, to win lovers, to turn away weapons and help when no others can. When the elder sister tells Wednesday she can taste him on the rain, she is speaking literally and figuratively, both as person, but also what he is.. Water is the universal solvent, the fluid we are composed of and need to survive. It dissolves things, and also binds and mixes them together in solution.
It is the medium which is also the message.
As an acknowledgement of his fluid nature, as the messenger of war to the old Gods, he is the Man Who Walks Between Raindrops (for his coat does not get wet, even before he unfurls the umbrella.)
“Kissing is disgusting...but -- but in a nice way, like bleu cheese or brandy.”
In the line above, we are presented with the absurdity of seeing sexuality as mere coitus. Flavour only exists when the food and the tastebuds meet. In that connection, consciousness, experience is altered.
In some branches of tantra, the practitioner deliberately breaks social taboos in order to perceive the true non-dual nature of consciousness; consuming red meat, living on charnel grounds, drinking from a cup made out of a skull, and even consuming the flesh of a corpse.
‘Nice’ or ‘Nasty’? Do such things exist for divinities?
Now think - when was the last time you saw older people sharing a passionate kiss on television? It is usually the domain of the younger, hotter, more supposedly desirable cast. Equally, when was the last time you saw explicit gay sex between native Arabic speakers, except later in the episode? (Notice how they meet in the rain, too? How Salim speaks of his grandmother’s memory? How the Djinn’s fluids burn inside him, how the lovers set each other free?)
And just before the elder Zorya and Wednesday kiss, he asks her if she remembers when they were younger. The kiss is the reminder, an echo of that which Shadow and the youngest sister accomplish on the rooftop. As the elders kiss, Wednesday evokes the memory of youth, making them young again bringing the oncoming storm to bear. He has mirrored Shadow’s kiss, his gaining of the Moon as the silver dollar at the hands of the youngest virgin sister. In that moment, Wednesday and (Shadow-as-his-double), gain the sisters in their enterprise.
As a magical act, its nondual deviousness is one of Wednesday’s best, and as a semiotic act, the showrunners seem to be making things clear: sexuality is more than heteronormative tits and ass.
But it’s not only the sisters that Wednesday gets, by the time the storm breaks, is it? The war that is tasted on the rain is also the ‘war’ between Czernobog and Shadow as they play checkers. In a sense, as Shadow gains the “daughter not the father” - the moon-as-coin, he gains himself. Shadow Moon He is no longer resigned to death. It may still come, and probably will, but as with Wednesday, that’s for another day, and Wisconsin. In another, by gaining the coin he begins to receive his psychic, emotional faculties, brutalised out of him by prison. The mythical associations of the Moon trump in tarot-reading apply; intuition, dreams, the primordial waters of the womb, illusion and mystery. Shadow begins to take an active role in the realm of the gods - guided by Wednesday, he is led to make it snow.
And, of course Wednesday is not the only guide of souls we meet in this episode - the first scenes bring us Chris Obi as Anubis, aka Anpu, aka Mr. Jaquel, guiding the soul of one of the newly dead to the Duat. We begin to sense, as she puts it that “This isn’t Queens!” No, it isn’t. As Wednesday says to Shadow, later: “What a beautiful, beautiful thing to be able to dream, when you’re not asleep!” and, in the same scene, “The only thing that scares me, is being forgotten. I can survive most things but not that.” Might this not, in general, be AG’s version of the Old Norse poem where Odin speaks about his two ravens, Huginn and Muninn - who fly over the worlds and bring back news and secrets to the god who always wants more knowledge? Usually translated as Thought and Memory respectively, the Allfather fears the loss of Huginn, but fears the loss of Muninn, more. A poet-magician fears for the loss of memory, both of remembering and being remembered - makes sense, doesn’t it?
And old Odin gave up his eye for a drink from the well of Mimir, a name which has its cognates with memory, ripping it out, because as Wednesday says:
Oh, I want knowledge over comfort, over all things, always.
What is knowledge to a pre-literate culture, but that which is held by memory; brought forth, shared-between, and returned? Rain falls, returning to the rivers, seas, and streams from which it evaporated. It wells up from the deep places to be hoisted to the heavens, only to drain back down, drawn by gravity to the centre of all things.
Wednesday leads Shadow to make snow. Teaches him to crystalize water vapour, to crystalize the knowledge of it, by thinking of snow. Thought and memory combined - knowledge arranged in a particular way.
Arranged to make memory manifest, to change the world. To do the impossible
Or, to give it another name: magic.

1. The world’s oldest porn, which dates back over 3,000 years, features both male/male, female/female and male/female couples
2. The oldest ever known chat up line was apparently said between two men. A mythological story from the 20th dynasty of Ancient Egypt is between Horus and Seth, who quarrelled for 80 years on who should rule. Seth attempted to persuade Horus to sleep with him, saying: ‘How lovely are your buttocks! And how muscular your thighs!’ They then have sex.
3. In Egypt, two male royal manicurists named Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep were found buried together in a shared tomb similar to the way married couples were often buried. Their epigraph reads: ‘Joined in life and joined in death’. Having lived in 2400 BC, they are believed to be history’s oldest recorded gay couple.
4. Some historical gay and bi figures have turned their lovers into gods. Alexander the Great wanted to make his boyhood lover Hephaestion a god when he died, but was only allowed to declare him a Divine Hero. The Roman Emperor Hadrian, of wall-building fame, was successful in making his lover, Antinous, a god after he drowned in the Nile.
5. The church sanctified gay marriages in the so-called Dark Ages, with one being the Byzantine Emperor Basil 1 (867-886) and his partner John.
6. In a creation myth by Aristophanes, there were three sexes: those with two male heads (which were descended from the sun), those with two female heads (from the earth) and those with a male and a female head (descended from the moon). Displeased with them, Zeus crippled them by chopping them in half. Since that day, according to the story, we are looking for the other half to create our whole. This is known as the Origin of Love.
7. Mercury represents male and female principles in harmony. In mythology, Mercury fathered Hermaphroditus, who had both male and female sex organs.
8. Ancient Greeks didn’t believe in heterosexual and homosexual. However they did believe in passive and active. The most common form of same-sex relationships were when an older male, the erastes, acted as a mentor and lover to a younger boy, the eromenos. They believed sperm was the source of knowledge and it was able to be ‘passed on’.
9. There was a band of 150 gay couples from Thebes who defeated a Spartan army, and went undefeated for 30 years.
10. In ancient China, homosexuality was referred to as ‘the cut sleeve’ and ‘pleasures of the bitten peach’.
11. Until the late 1400s the word ‘girl’ just meant a child of either sex. If you had to differentiate between them, male children were referred to as ‘knave girls’ and females were ‘gay girls‘.
12. The word drag is apparently an acronym, a stage direction coined by Shakespeare and his contemporaries meaning ‘Dressed Resembling A Girl’.
13. The Virginia Court in 1629 recorded the first gender ambiguity among the American colonists. A servant named Thomas(ine) Hall was officially declared by the governor to be both ‘a man and a woman’. To stop everyone else from being confused, Hall was ordered to wear articles of each sex’s clothing every day.
14. In early 17th century London, there was a gay brothel on the site where Buckingham Palace is today.
15. Nicholas Biddle, an early explorer of America, found in 1806 that among Minitarees (Native American tribe), ‘if a boy shows any symptom of effeminacy or girlish inclinations, he is put among the girls, dressed in their way, brought up with them and sometimes married to men’.
16. Uganda had a gay king. King Mwanga II, who reigned from 1884 to 1888, is widely reported to have had affairs with his male servants.
17. In the 19th century the word gay referred to a woman who was a prostitute and a gay man was a man who slept with a lot of women.
18. Homosexual men in 1900s London made up an entire slang language so they could communicate in public without fear of being arrested – Polari. Some words survived into today’s slang, such as ‘naff’ – meaning lacking style, TBH, standing for ‘to be honest’ or ‘to be had’, and tjuz, meaning to primp or improve.
