FINALLY found him!

I have been wracking my brain for months trying to figure out who the perfect face claim for Thiodron Ver’Sarn should be. Finally realized, after MUCH thought, that it had to be Hugo Weaving. No other would do him the justice he deserves.

Why Hugo?

Well, for starters, I wasn’t thinking of Elrond, although getting to use Elrond gifs for the War of the Ancients and the Troll Wars is gonna be cool. I actually had a very singular, very important thought in my head.

Thiodron is modeled after my great-grandfather, and he was the kind of man, the kind of ancestor, who ends up living a life and leaving behind a story that you grow up hearing about. He’s the hero that inspires you. He’s the legacy that you want to live up to.

So I had to think to myself, “Who, in all of music or movies, do I think of as heroic?” First thing that popped into my head was V, twirling his daggers in V for Vendetta.

And from there, the proverbial lightbulb went on, the angel chorus sounded, and everything fell into place.

“Lady” Ver’Sarn

Dear Lady Ver’Sarn... Esteemed Lady Ver’Sarn... Lady Aranya...

Lady Ver’Sarn... Lady... Lady...

“When the fel will they all just get it right?”

Arcanist. Not lady. Aranya had said it a million times to a million different faces, and still, her desk was now covered in letters that all addressed her as one addresses a noble: Lady Ver’Sarn.

She disliked it. Even without the history behind it, it made her uncomfortable, like someone was trying to put some heavy crown on her head that she shouldn’t have and didn’t want.

Aranya placed both palms on her desk, and leaned in a slump over all her papers with a sigh. She was supposed to be looking over things for Kurel. She would be seeing him very soon, to return his coat and talk over what else they could now do for each other.

The arcanist had buyers and sellers catching word of mouth and addressing her as “lady,” looking for the better deals which the Eclipse Syndicate could connect them with. She had gradually been gaining operatives, appraisers, and people who could get jobs done. She still needed to secure a good midway point, positioned between all her deals, for storing and shipping, and crews to take the merchandise - above-board or smuggled, whichever they felt brave enough to take on.

Kurel had Sunspire - to say nothing of Northrend - and the free port of Sunspire was just damn perfect.

He called her “lady,” too, sometimes, didn’t he? The first time was done erroneously, but any other time after that that she could remember, it was like he wanted everyone in earshot to respect her as he did. Making a point.

Garog had told her she might as well get used to it, that it didn’t matter what her ancestors had made a tradition of since the dawn of Quel’thalas. It didn’t matter that Thiodron Ver’Sarn had given up his lordly title and noble rights to rebel against Azshara, as the ancient elf queen brought the Legion upon Azeroth. It didn’t matter that every generation after him had honored his sacrifice in never bearing noble title again. It didn’t matter.

“In the eyes of the people, you are noble,” the orc had said. “Your actions, your spirit. You are their lady.”

A lady of the people...?

It could be supposed that there were worse things to be.

Didn’t make it any less uncomfortable.

Character Interview (Déjà Vu)

I swear, I did a meme SO similar to this a couple years ago on DeviantArt. But hey, let’s see how Aranya Ver’Sarn has developed since then, shall we?

1. WHAT IS YOUR NAME? Aranya Ver’Sarn 2. WHAT IS YOUR REAL NAME? Still Aranya Ver’Sarn 3. DO YOU KNOW WHY YOU WERE CALLED THAT? My mother chose my name and my father liked it, so that was that. The family name's been around since before the Sundering.   4. ARE YOU SINGLE OR TAKEN? I'll just say "Not actively looking" and we'll leave it at that. M'kay? 5. HAVE ANY ABILITIES OR POWERS? I'm an arcanist, so yes, I've got plenty of that to spare. 6. STOP BEING A MARY SUE. /eyebrow 7. WHAT’S YOUR EYE COLOR? Fel green. Used to be blue. Same as anyone else's. 8. HOW ABOUT YOUR HAIR COLOR? Black. 9. HAVE YOU ANY FAMILY MEMBERS? My father, Valtheras Ver’Sarn. He’s a quel’dorei, so we don’t get to see each other much. Little Valéria, who I am very proud of. My mother, Linan, is no longer living, and the original head of my family when Quel’thalas was founded - my ancestor, Lord Thiodron Ver’Sarn - is naturally long dead, as are all the others members of my family.

The little sugar-fiend and I kind of formed a bond. And a phoenix familiar, Felodal, but I don’t think a familiar really counts as a pet. Felodal is still a fledgeling in his current life-cycle, by the way. 11. THAT’S COOL I GUESS, NOW TELL ME ABOUT SOMETHING YOU DON’T LIKE. I have an extremely poor tolerance for cold. 12. DO YOU HAVE ANY HOBBIES/ACTIVITIES YOU LIKE DOING? I like to swim, read, play cards (dice and chess aren't really my thing), and flex my creativity with magic. I sing, been doing it for as long as I can remember. I enjoy practicing with swords, hunting, jumping from heights and timing a Slow Fall at the last second, flying with my netherdrake, Etherfang, and blink-racing across fel and fire pits. 13. EVER HURT ANYONE BEFORE? Yes. 14. EVER….KILLED ANYONE BEFORE? Yes. 15. WHAT KIND OF ANIMAL ARE YOU? An elusive predator. 16. NAME YOUR WORST HABITS. It's difficult to choose a "worst," but I'll give you my favorite: The fact that I'm generous to those I would consider my friends. Believe it or not generosity can be as much of a vice as it is a virtue in some respects, and here's why: Drinks anyone? I conjure the next round. Need a light? I've got a flame at the end of my thumb with a snap of my fingers for you. I'm an unapologetic enabler, even if I don't partake. *winks* 17. DO YOU LOOK UP TO ANYONE AT ALL? I've always looked up to my father. Things have changed quite a bit over the years, but I still respect him as much as I ever did. Generally, I look up to those who are more experienced than I am and who've earned my respect. 18. GAY, STRAIGHT, OR BISEXUAL? Straight. (So sorry, ladies.) 19. DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL? I finished my requisite apprenticeship decades ago, but my line of work entails continuing study throughout my life. 20. DO YOU EVER WANT TO MARRY AND HAVE KIDS ONE DAY? *silence* 21. DO YOU HAVE ANY FANBOYS/FANGIRLS? *wily smirk* Mhm 22. WHAT ARE YOU MOST AFRAID OF? Losing myself. Been through that crucible before, don’t want it again. 23. WHAT DO YOU USUALLY WEAR? Fairly understated, elegant, and easy to move around in. Anything with unnecessary bells and whistles is a pain. I typically wear boots, as well, since you can go just about anywhere in them.  24. DO YOU LOVE SOMEONE? No comment. 25. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WET YOURSELF? Define “wet?”  26. WELL, IT’S NOT OVER YET! Pf! Of coooourse it isn't. 27. WHAT CLASS ARE YOU? My family and I have always been very well off, but we're not part of the nobility, not since the reign of Azshara ended, and that was long before Quel'thalas.  28. HOW MANY FRIENDS DO YOU HAVE? I don't keep track of a number, but I know who they are, how far I can trust them, and I know that there's much I wouldn't hesitate to render to a pile of cinders for their sake, if it came to that. 29. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON PIE? /conjure pie /holler COME AND GET IT! 30. FAVOURITE DRINK? *grins* Just one? Oh come on, now. That's hardly fair. 31. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE? In Azeroth? Quel'thalas. In Outland? Anywhere where I've got a good view of the stars. In Draenor? In bed. 32. ARE YOU INTERESTED IN SOMEONE? No comment. 33. Someone I can trust. Someone with plenty of patience. Loyal to those he cares about, lethal to anyone else. My eyes are open for these qualities regardless of “type.” 36. ANY FETISHES? Not really, but I will admit that I enjoy it when magic is brought into the mix. 37. SEME OR UKE? TOP OR BOTTOM? DOMINANT OR SUBMISSIVE? Who does the what now? ... Depends on the mood I’m in. 38.
