never thought i'd hear chk chk boom be played at our school field on the speakers but we gone done it lol
#we're basically having sports week at our school and all of our days are spent at the field#and they were making the kids play musical chair AS A SPORT (😭) but we were having fun because they started playing songs on the speakers#while everyone was busy cheering me and my friends started chanting 'change the song! change the song!" LMAO#and it was so fun seeing others join haha#its not like our school didn't play kpop. its just the usual gangnam style and SOME bts songs if we're lucky#but usually its just random songs i feel like the sir was just scrolling through insta reels and chose whatever he was watching 😭😭#WE SUCESSFULLY MADE THEM PLAY APT BY ROSE#we started chanting 'A-P-T!' continuously and then EVERYBODY JOINED IN IT WAS SO FUN#and maybe he found a kpop playlist via that because then he played dynamite lol#BUT THEN one of my teachers called me aside for some discussion regarding the prep for the next days and then while shes talking to me#I HEAR CHK CHK BOOM PLAYING HDASHDASJK#my stay friends came up to me to call me but then they saw things were v serious between the teachers and all so they started smirking/groa#-ing#RAHH I MISSED IT THE FIRST TIME AND THE FOMO WAS HITTING ME HARD#but THEN after a few rounds of some desi item songs THEY PLAYED IT AGAINDHAHDA#i had a religious experience listening to chan's pre-chorus on the loud speakers. thats all ill say#we were literally rapping in gibberish and i literally fell on my knees when chan's part came up im not even embarrassed 😭😭#and it was so surprising to me to see everyones reaction because they were like oh! ur a kpop stan! oh! like i feel their whole perception#of me has changed somehow 💀 cant say if its for the better or worse loll#but all that matters was i got to experience this religious moment with my friends cuz im just a girl🙇♀️🎀#(also cuz it was musical chairs they stopped playing just before the chorus 😥 but that didn't stop us from screaming the whole song heheh)#stray kids#skz#personal

Can’t believe Shakira invented the concept of having very few brain cells left… back in 1998
#so I’m listening to her album donde están los ladrones#and in her song tu she says te regalo mi locura y las pocas neuronas que quedan ya#translation: I gift/give you my craziness and the few neurons I have left#girl was saying she’s absolutely lost it and barely has any brain cells left to boot#anyway Shakira pre 2015? 2013? not sure when she started going for basic reggaeton pop#but anyway late nineties early 2000s was like her best era#if you understand Spanish that is#although early 2000s is also when she crossed over to English too so that music is good too#I don’t really blame her for changing her style to be more generic girl has to make money and feed her kids#and the Spanish music scene is so full of rappers that can’t sing or rap so they’re all auto tuned#she can actually sing but she’s also become more autotuned and I don’t really like it much#anyway don’t mind my rambling#Shakira

Idk, to me the whole newwave of people fighting against a silly trend to point out an issue or make a political statement is more annoying than the thing people are talking about itself. Obviously Kendrick is not some political activist [that's his musical brand, but actively doing so..probs not] to be praised for pointing out the obvious or seemingly withholding bomb drops for his musical benefit. Obviously, there is a genocide going on; that's not new (also the conspiracy theories really are getting out of hand). Anyone that seriously thinks 1 man in the rap industry has the power to take down a pedophile (allegedly allegedly) is seriously living in a fantasy land. The wild thinkpieces on music like it's a war in need of rebuttals for your 'lead the rebellion' stance are crazy to me and more focused on than something that could be important to matter. It's not that serious; it's just fun.
#tell me you're a tumblr girly who's never witnessed a rap beef w/out telling me#kendrick lamar#drake#also i'll say change starts with powerful ppl flocking together to have likeminded views;#y'all trying to put this on 1 person to be responsible to speak up or for speaking up is annoying or corny#-depending on your stance#shitpost

Some kind of character analysis thing (bear with me, I’m bad at these) TLDR at the end
Callie is upbeat and hyperactive, shown in many of her live performances where she is just jumping around for seemingly no reason, just because she’s so excited. She is usually quite silly and goofy too, and you can tell that she enjoys drawing energy out of the crowd and flipping it right back to them. Rarely is she shown without a smile, unless something catches her by surprise. Though more often than not, she’s the one doing the surprising. Marie is sarcastic and laidback. She isn’t as active as Callie (compare the choreo of Bomb Rush Blush and Low Tide). She prefers to be more chill, but dances with Callie when they’re doing one of their routines together. In the beginning, she rarely even smiled during her performances, but that was most likely a part of her charm, her “signature thing” if you will, as a tv personality and idol. Overtime, she began to smile more and show more emotion in general. I do notice that that started around when it was no longer her main job anymore (no more hosting the news and the current Splatfest performances in Splat 3 which she and Callie don’t host anymore), but that is irrelevant at the moment.
Pearl is loud and unapologetic. She knows who she is and what she stands for and she isn’t afraid to express that. She grabs the attention in a room flawlessly, shown especially in her live performances in which she is constantly calling out to the crowd in the middle of songs to hype them up. She clearly lives up to the role of an MC. She’s also shown to randomly bust out in rhymes sometimes, which likely means she practices her raps the moment the inspiration strikes, regardless of where she is or what situation she’s in, again showing how unapologetic she is and her confidence. Marina was once shy and reserved due to her origins, but after meeting Pearl, she became way more confident in herself. The way she dances and carries herself in the live performances shows how much she has changed and become comfortable in who she is and what she loves to do. She loves Pearl’s energy and will always bounce it back with her. After all, Pearl’s contagious and loud energy is what led Marina to become more confident herself. She is logical and strategic due to her upbringing. She easily analyzed and formulated a plan to take down the NILS statue in barely a minute. But she is also humble, never boasting too loudly about her large skillset. Maybe this is in part because of how she gained those particular skills, but I also think it is just in her nature to be humble in her achievements, even though she certainly isn’t humble in the way she dances.
Frye is also very confident in themself and highly competitive. They always see themself as on top and won’t bother with anything they think isn’t worth it. They seem to see themself as a leader, as shown when they invite Agent 3 to join their crew before engaging in battle (assuming “crew” here refers to Deep Cut of course). They have wild energy, shown by the way they dance (wide stance and lots of hopping and flailing of the arms). Plus, their fighting style actually is dancing, and they’re known to start randomly dancing at any time, which can easily be interpreted as a show of skill/power. Shiver likes to call herself cold and she is rather ruthless, shown in her obsessive need to splat opponents in battle and also staying far from the immediate action itself. But in truth she has the same wild energy as Frye, just not as openly. Her encounter starts with her acting calm and collected, but she immediately goes to taunting Agent 3 with her tongue sticking out as soon as the battle starts. She’s also more elegant in her performances, shown by how often she likes to vocalize in the background of Frye and Big Man’s singing. I interpret her character as someone who wants to appear cold and collected, but is actually rather excitable when doing something she loves (singing and fighting).
Big Man is not entirely relevant to this post, but I feel bad not talking about him so here we go. He is clearly meant to be sweet and lovable. He calls himself a pacifist, but he is loyal to his friends and fights for them and what the three of them all believe in (helping Splatsville). He can be somewhat clueless sometimes, but he’s the brains behind Deep Cut’s music. He is faaaar less energtic than the other two both in his mannerisms and his performances in Deep Cut. And he doesn’t mind being on the sidelines, such as when he wanted to hand out water bottles at the end of the race Frye suggested rather than joining it. He is not generally competitive, but enjoys taking a side in Splatfests and cheering his team on.
TLDR
Callie, Pearl, and Frye are all very energetic. Callie is more aimless with her energy; she is just very excited all the time and needs to express it somehow, like a bottled up firecracker. Pearl is unapologetically confident with her energy, making her presence known and hyping/inspiring everyone around her. Frye is more chaotic and wild with their energy, mainly with the intent of showing off their skill.
Marie, Marina, and Shiver are more on the calm side. Marie is lower energy and highly sarcastic, and only recently started showing her happiness visually. Marina’s calm is more due to humility and a need for logic, and though she is not high energy like Pearl, she still shows a lot of it during her performances. Shiver’s calm shows mainly on the outside, but she is actually higher energy when she is doing something she enjoys a lot and highly expressive.
The three idol groups are obviously all based on the same character archetypes, but that doesn’t mean they’re all actually the same and would react the same way to things. And heck, it turns out Big Man actually is relevant to this because he turns the idol archetype on its head. He’s the one with low energy, hence why Frye is high energy and Shiver is the balance between them, being calm but also high energy sometimes.
Another thing I wanted to add is that Shiver’s “calm” is more intentional than Marie and Marina’s. Shiver wants to be perceived that way, while Marie and Marina are just like that.
#splatoon#squid sisters#callie splatoon#marie splatoon#off the hook#pearl splatoon#marina splatoon#deep cut#frye splatoon#shiver splatoon#big man splatoon#this is in response to this short i saw on yt#shiver was singing and frye interrupted with a rap and shiver looked annoyed#a person in the comments said it would fit oth better because pearl is a rapper#and a comment in response said it would fit any of the idols because theyre all the same archetype#but honestly i think it would fit ss best#if callie started randomly rapping interrupting marie marie would get annoyed and maybe say something mean/sarcastic to her#if pearl started rapping interrupting marina marina would cheer her on and change her tune to sing along#and if frye interrupted shiver with a rap shiver would literally ignore them and keep going#oh also#i use they/them for frye for kin reasons#devin speaks

Do people realize that you can. Not enjoy rap music because you just don't generally enjoy it? Y'all know you don't have to try to construct some Progressive Leftist Justification (that really just ends up being racist) for not enjoying it right? The style can just generally... not appeal to you? And that's fine?
#this goes for other things too by the way it's not just rap or even just music genres in general#but I just saw multiple posts about rap specifically so that's what I'm going with#like sure it would be good to reflect on it a bit to see if there are particular reasons for it that are a problem#but like. embrace having your own tastes and preferences. it isn't inherently moral#I say this gently because I do understand the Morality Panick of not liking something people insist you should (or liking something people#insist you shouldn't) and feeling the need to either change that (somehow. not sure that's really... possible...) or justify your feelings

It's that time of year again where Mari Lwyd starts to be talked about and shared around and an INCREDIBLY misleading post gets shared a lot. As someone who grew up with Mari Lwyd I wanted to clear some things up.
Also hello, if you are unaware who Mari Lwyd is. This is about the Welsh tradition of the horse skull who visits houses during the Christmas to New Years period in Wales asking for alcohol.
First off and probably the most important one:
Mari Lwyd is not a cryptid!
I can not emphasise this enough. She. Is. Not. A. Cryptid. There is no story or mystery about a ghost or zombie horse roaming the Welsh valleys. She's not even supposed to be a ghost or a zombie. It's just a horse skull on a stick with a guy under a sheet. She's a hobbyhorse and a folk character used to tell Welsh stories and keep songs alive. When people spread the misinformation that she's a cryptid, it's the equivalent of saying Kermit the Frog is a cryptid.
She is actually only one character in a wider cast of characters who go door to door or, in more modern times, pub to pub. The cast of characters can change town to town and village to village but there are some common ones I see time and time again. The Leader, the Merryman, The Jester and The Lady are just some I see regularly. Punch and Judy used to be more popular a few years ago but I haven't seen them in a while as their tradition has mostly fallen out of popularity. In most cases, almost the whole cast will be played by men. Even the characters are considered and referred to as female. Though this again depends and varies by which group is partaking in the Mari Lwyd tradition.
This point also goes onto my second point,
Mari Lwyd does not rap.
I think this comes from a very common misunderstanding of what rap is vs spoken word. Rap is a very specific style of music originating from the African American communities of the USA and has it's own structure and motifs unique to it. It's a lot more complex than people give it credit for as a style of music and just flippantly assign anything similar to it as being rap. If someone is talking fast or reciting poetry, it is not rap. Or anything that is an exchange of words between two people is not a rap battle. Mari Lwyd does not do rap, actually something that gets left out of these posts is the fact Mari Lwyd does not even speak. It's actually the Leader, who does all the speaking and song based banter between the house/pub owner for entry. Mari Lwyd just clicks her mouth, bites people and bobs her head around.
I think Mari Lwyd is a really beautiful and unique part of Welsh culture. She's not actually as wildly celebrated as a lot of the posts make her out to be. Actually, I think most Welsh people themselves learn about Mari Lwyd through the internet as well. Her popularity is increasing thanks to the drive of local groups wanting to keep the traditions alive and a renewed desire to document Welsh traditions before they're gone. Which is why it's such a shame that she's turned into something she's not to earn horror points on the internet. I think this is why it bothers me so much to see the misunderstandings of the culture and the folk tradition. Mari Lwyd's origin is very hot debated as well as how long it's been going on for. But I think it's thanks to a lot of traditions like this that the Welsh language and our stories weren't lost forever. Welsh culture is recovering as is the language. But it's still in a very fragile place. I think it's why it's important to document and correct information when it's spread.
Anyway, if you want to see the tradition in action, here's a lovely video from the Cwmafan RFC going to one of the pubs for charity. It includes the song exchange with the pub owner for entry and the whole pub singing and joining in once Mari Lwyd and the rest are inside.
youtube
As well with another video from St Fagan's showcasing the more traditional and door to door form with the larger cast.
