Tumblr media
You know how long I can do this? Forever. Amphibia is basically fanart fusion of Pepper Anne and DBZ Midsummers Nights Dream? Basically just a cross over fic with ocs from Canterbury Tales and Metamorphoses Seriously lets start thread about how almost all the paintings that are super famous is mostly just fanart of preexisting lore. Shit man, just draw what you love.

Arfight attack of Finch, for @krembruleed !
I was inspired by the fact Finch's outfits seem to be heavily inspired by historical clothing, so I've decided I'll try to base her attack on a historical painting. And as The lute player by Theodoor Rombouts has a somewhat silly face expression, so I took the opportunity to make it a study!
The side-by-side comparison under the cut!

Thinking of this painting that was hanging on Wernicke's wall... Got me wondering what was RB's intention of putting it up. Time for yapping.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Could it relate to Miles? Since in myth about Prometheus we have a theme of helping mankind and being punished for it; aka Miles goes to MM in order to expose Murkoff as to prevent more people from being harmed by a malicious company; in result of which, aside from suffering mental trauma his body becomes mutilated (he loses his fingers).
That's just one version of Prometheus' story though. There's also the fact that in other version's Prometheus marries Pandora who opens the great lid and all evils and diseases, etc. flew out (so essentially how Walrider left the containment of the Asylum?).
But hey, I'm just reaching. I haven't had contact with the Outlast lore in so long, so I don't remember many details, lol. Could always be the fact that developers saw this painting and thought: what a cool ass painting.
(The painting is by a baroque painter Theodoor Rombouts, but it was tough to find it in general)

The Backgammon Players
Artist: Theodoor Rombouts (Flemish, 1597–1637)
Date: 1634
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Collection: North Carolina Museum of Art, Raleigh
In this painting, and also in some of his other works, Rombouts has placed himself and his wife rather obviously among the bystanders, a custom which was not unusual in Dutch genre painting, particularly among the Caravaggists. The lavishly dressed soldier bears the artist's likeness.

Waar?   Tentoonstelling Theodoor Rombouts – Virtuoos van het Vlaamse Caravaggisme in Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Gent
Wanneer?   21 maart 2023
Diens belangrijkste Italiaanse navolger was Bartelomeo Manfredi (1582-1622).
