I’m back to finish explaining Dandy’s world(bc it’s my fav game rn)
The only things left to cover areeee
Voting,
Dandy’s shop,
Items,
Trinkets,
Twisteds,
And how to buy toons!
1.Votes
Sometimes when you enter the elevator after completing a floor, three options will pop up on the bottom of the floor. You and ur team who r in the elevator, you click on it, and then ur teams votes go in and u get ur thing
Usually it’s an overall stat boost, like plus 10 to ur stamina bar or if ur hurt u gain 1 heart back (u only get 3 so) and sometimes it gives you the option to get tapes.
Which leads me to,
2.Dandys shop.
But usually when you enter the elevator the stinky evil flower man will appear at the back with 3 items for sale. If you don’t buy from him for 6 floors(not counting the floors u get voting instead) he’ll appear as a twisted and chase u down.
He is the only one that can one shot you. So be prepared.
Now how to buy form him:
You’ll find tapes on the floor during rounds, and when u pick them up it adds to ur overall number
Beat the floor, see if he pops up, and buy from him if u like the items he has.
3.Items
Basically any normal in game items, temp stat boost, things to help machines quicker, and like med kit/band-aids.
4. Trinkets
Actually (surprisingly) very different form items
You equip them before the rounds and they will add a stat boost or something like that
You get them from completing research on different twisted versions of the toons.
You get research(which also doubles as the in game currency) by picking up capsules of Ichor form the floors. When you get 100% on a toons twisted, you get their trinket.
5.Twisteds
The evil versions of the toons you play as that run around the floor and try to kill you. Some have different ways they attack, I’d recommend watching a video on it :)(that’s a good idea maybe I should make a video on that-)
6.Buying toons!
Before you enter the rounds there’s a diff dandy shop, talk to him and find a toon you wanna buy for your play style! Finish all of the requirements for them, and buy em :)
And i think that’s all! If you wanna do a test run with me, I’ll message u my username :)
Oh cool! Only thing is despite how much I love horror I am a huge wuss when it comes to jump scares and stuff so I don’t know how I’ll cope.
What I’m really interested in however is *matpat voice* THE LOOOREEE

Monster Hunter Rise: 2nd Trailer and news blowout
Hey guys this is Gaijinhunter. I am uploading this as a text post since I caught a cold and have been unable to edit a video.
There was a huge second wave of news for Monster Hunter Rise with the reveal of the 2nd trailer the other day during the Game Awards 2020 show. Keep in mind the actual full length trailer is much longer and better than the shorter edit they showed during the show so makes sure you watch it. It showcased a second map, 2 new monsters, several returning monsters, and more. They also updated their official website with a ton of information so instead of doing a trailer reaction or breakdown, I am going to give you all the info they shared but split up by category, trying to focus only on the new stuff.
New Map
Director Ichinose hinted in an interview that one of the new maps would be nostalgic and boy he wasn't kidding. The Flooded Forest from Third Generation has been massively remade and is back in MH rise. Of course given this game’s focus is verticality, there is no underwater combat sections but they really nailed it from what I can see. One of the most iconic parts of the forest was the ruins in the backgrounds, and now you can scale up it using the wirebug. How cool is that.
With the new map we also got the reveal of 2 new monsters.
First up is the mermaid wyvern, the Somnacanth. This marks the much hyped return of the leviathan class of monsters which were missing in world and iceborne. This Monster looks so wild. It has a special breath that will put you to sleep, is super aggressive, and has this crazy taiko drum like chest in which it will grab oysters and other things and bust them against it to break them open and buff itself. The Japanese name is quite a mouthful and is called Isonemikuni. This is the monster that Ichinose teased with his cute drawing on twitter.
Next up is the tengu beast, Bishaten. This monster is really unique, it looks like a mix of a monkey, bat, and bird. It has a huge and powerful tail it uses for massive mobility and it will chuck various fruits at you as well. One of the most iconic fruits it throws are persimmons, which are very Japanese and if you haven’t had them before, they are kind of an acquired taste. It’s Japanese name is Bishutendo.
For returning monsters we have a few. First is our favorite sponge, the Royal Ludroth. This is a fan favorite and a great early to mid game monster. It has one of the best move sets in my opinion, very telegraphed but it can still catch you off guard even if you are super used to it. Strategically figuring gout where to stand in order to cut off its tail or break the sponge has always been really fun and intersting so I’m delighted to see this monster return, also look at that texture of the sponge!
Then we got the return of the Great Wroggi, the anti-poison skill tutorial monster. This thing really messed me up back in MH3G until I spent the time to get the materials to craft anti-posion decorations and even then, like the Great Izuchi, it fights really well with its sidekick small wroggis and I cant wait to see the improved cooperative AI that they are making for the Great Izuchi applied to this monster as well. It’s armor also spots a really cool Crocodile Dundee hat and look in the trailer and you can see the palico armor as well. So cool.
Finally, we got a small scene that appears to show a snow map and a group of baggi getting hit by a Khezu lightening shot. Does this mean the Great Baggi will return? Not sure. But that scream 100% is a Khezu, and I cannot wait to see how it looks with higher resolution texturing, I bet it will be creepy as heck. So while not technically confirmed, I’d say it’s safe to say Khezu is returning in some form. The balance of all these monsters is so great, I love the selection so far.
As far as other returning monsters that might return, I think we all expect nargacuga and zinogre. These are flagship monsters from games directed by Ichinose and he even tweeted his palamute and palico both named after these two monsters. Especially given the Japanese aesthetic, I think it’s pretty much guaranteed they are returning. Then I think mizutsune is also highly likely given its Japanese design, the fox theme, the kimono armor. Plus the model for it doesn't look that far off from the new Somnacanth. Anyway I have super hyped.
Interaction with animals and endemic life
One of the huge features of Monster Hunter Rise is the focus on wild life and animals to buff your hunter or be used as tools during a hunt.
There are 4 major types of Endemic Life: Temp Buffer, Permabuffer, Hunting Helper, and environmental.
For Permabuffer, we got a new render of the Spiribirds, which will buff your hunter if you move near one, and the effects depend on the color of the pollen it is carrying. Green increases your max Health, Orange increases your defense, red increases your attack power, and yellow increases your max stamina. There is even a special rainbow colored one, which I assume will buff all 4.
Via their website, Capcom announced a new item called the Petalace, a bracelet made of a plant called a Sending Sprig that each hunter has equipped. This is what collects the pollen from the birds and buffs your hunter. There is a variety of Petalaces in the game and some may increase the amount in which an attack boost is applied from a single Spiribird, raise the max value that health can be boosted, and more. Here in the screen shot we can see the caps for each and the amount gained for each buff. Just a quick note but this is not going to be replacing charms as we know that they are giving away a talisman for pre-order.
For Temp Buffer creatures, they revealed the name of the Clothfly, a butterfly that will temporarily increase your defense once you interact with it and cause it to generate a cloud of dust. In previous videos we have seen Peepers that reduce stamina usage, birds that raise your base stats, and a dragonfly that boosts your affinity and I had calculated it out to being applied for 90 seconds but we’ll have to wait for hte final game to see if that depends on the effect or if they change it, but it sounds about right.
For Hunting Helper creatures, we got an adorable new render of the Stinkmink. You can carry up to 5 Hunting Helpers and use them like items. The Stinkmink can be used to cover yourself in a special pheromone that will attract large monsters to you, even allowing you to lure one monster toward another to cause a turf war. I personally can think of other applications like luring a monster toward a trap and stuff like that.
And for environmental endemic life, they didn't show it in the trailer but there are also wildlife that can be used like environmental traps. For example, use raw meat and the giganha fish will go crazy, damaging anything nearby be it a hunter or monster. I can’t wait to see someone hunt a Great Wroggi using only raw meat. I love that we finally will have more use for this item.
NPCs
In the new trailer we got to hear several of the NPC villagers talking and on the website they go into a lot more details. They have quite the star-studded cast in Japanese and the English voice actors are also very interesting picks. This really marks the first time in Monster Hunter that the main cast of villagers will all be called by name and speak, which I think adds a lot of personality to the game.
First we have Fugen the village elder of Kamura and skilled long sword user.
Then we have Hinoa the Quest Maiden, a cheerful and optimistic girl who serves as the quest giver in the village while her twin sister runs the gathering hub. While not announced in any other language, the French and Italian language sites for the game list her sister’s name as Minoto. Hinoa’s name is Hinoe in Japnaese and for the rest of the cast their names are identical between the two languages.
One thing I am excited for is that they said that one of the ways they will help communicate the uniqueness of Kamura is through songs and they shared a sample of one of them in the full trailer. This one is sung by Izumi Kato. If you remember back in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate they featured songs by the wyverian Diva, and I am so happy they decided to do songs again, they add so much richness to the world and are just lovely to listen to.
Next up is Yomogi, our village chef. In this game you will eat meals at her Tea Shop, where her speciality is the Bunny Dango she makes along with the help of some palicoes. I love that we’ve seen her in past videos with a heavy bowgun, so the idea that all the villagers are active participants in the story is great.
Then we have Hamon the blacksmith. He used to hunt alongside Fugen back in the day but now creates weapons for the hunters of the village. His grandson also appears in the game and is a kind-hearted youth that loves your hunting companions.
Next is Kagero the merchant. Despite his mysterious appearance he is actually very warm and kind. If there is a sale going on, not only can you buy most items for half off, but you can also participate in a lottery where you spin a wheel and it dispenses a colored ball. Get a rare color ball to win a rare prize. You can do it once per sale, but you can also scan an amiibo to spin two more times, but only once per day per amiibo you own.
Finally we have Komitsu the sweet-tooth, she sells candy apples in town. What these do is still not yet revealed.
Companions
We got an adorable render for the Cohoot, the pet owl that shows the positions of monsters on your map. You can interact with it in the town and even dress them up in fancy outfits.
Kamura Village
We got gameplay showing that the entire village is open to the 4 person multiplayer session and you can even ride around on your palamute and use your wirebug while in the village to zip around and have fun. There is still a gathering hall but the ability to see each other in the village as well as jump around and really explore it is a lovely change they are making.
Story wise we got more info about the Rampage, both a story mechanic and new quest type. For some reason the monsters will sometimes gang up and attack the village all at once and no one knows why. They call this a Rampage. There was a really bad rampage 50 years ago that nearly destroyed the village and in response the town has created a Stronghold to stop further invasions. This looks like a new quest type with multiple monsters all at once, and a slew of different artillery options at your disposal. I could see this as being a really fun type of quest to do online with other players.
And of course the most exciting news was that there will be a demo in January with more details to come later. That is far earlier than I expected and I now have to finish up my back catalogue of games in like the next month.
And that about wraps it up. Cpacom said that they will be sharing weapon preview videos for all 14 types very soon and if they do the way they used to do it, we’ll get one new video a day for 2 weeks. I hope you enjoyed this recap of the news and please let me know down in comments what you thought about the second trailer. And until next time, happy hunting.

The Sacrifice of Lila Rossi
Cyberpunk Mafia AU:
The small Medbay of The Garden had always been cramped, but ruthlessly organized to be the most efficient center for treatment in the city. Max, despite being someone that cared vary little for the acclaim and praise of others found joy in knowing that if he was known for anything, it was how well he could help people, especially since he was so often without the best methods to tackle a problem. He’ll often claim that when there are a thousand and one ways to use a paperclip, he could do the impossible with whatever he had on hand, he just wishes the universe didn’t actively try to test that theory…
In a rush a panic the crew of The Garden wheeled in a stasis pod, the contents of which was one Aurore frozen in a single moment within the chamber. Her eyes were wide in a mixture of fear and panic, several small burns littered her skin, a sign of far too many close calls at the wrong end of a plasma rifle, but the most prominent injury was the practical crater where her heart should have been the deep red of blood already overpowered the light blues of her usual attire well before she could make it into stasis.
“Alright I need a full report of the incident, no detail is too small.” Max rattled off to the panicked crew, already descending into his cocoon of holoscreens, processing information far faster than any normal human could. “Markov, activate ALL emergency protocols, I want to be prepared for the slightest hiccup.”
“Affirmative” a monotone synthetic voice rang out in the laboratory as several pieces of advanced equipment sprang to life.
“Please Doctor, you have to help her.” Sabrina begged as she refused to leave the side of pod. “I can’t just get my emotions back just to hurt like this. Please…”
“It’ll be ok Sabrina. Max is the best at what he does. Just let him do his thing” replied Rose who gently guided her away from the pod and into the arms of Chloe who hugged the girl with everything she could. “Alya, if you want your friend to get better, I suggest you answer his questions.”
“R-right” said Alya, snapping her attention from the pod, her whole body still shaking. “It was a mark III plasma rifle, like a really modified, really illegal model. We were so close to getting tangible proof that Argeste Industries was running corrupt experiments for the Mayor, we could finally put an end to the missing person posters… but there was this huge gorilla looking dude that attacked us. He looked like he was being mind controlled since his eyes were blank. He decked me and sent me flying into a wall. He was about to blast me point blank when Aurore blocked the shot with her umbrella. The blast tore right through it and got her in the heart. Thankfully, the broken umbrella made some kind of flashbang so I used a stasis capsule to try and stop the bleeding and got us here as fast as I could. She… She saved my life…” she took a moment to compose herself, trying to ground herself in the present. “I… I have the footage. Here.” Placing her palm on a terminal, a copy of the footage began playing on one of Max’s screens.
“Looks like you’ve found Gordan Rillan,” said Max. “He was a dock worker that used to work at the pier before the mayor allowed a competitor to take the whole thing over and put Gordan in serious debt. Argeste industries offered him a position and then he was reported missing shortly after. Scans seem to show he’s suffered an even more advanced version of whatever the hell they did to Kim… As for the blaster well, its partially radioactive and goes against several international laws. Her heart can’t be salvaged. The stasis prevented the spread of radiation but… there’s no fixing this without an outright replacement.”
“Please there has to be something!” Sabrina begged. What if I gave her my heart, I can survive being shut down for a while and we can fix me up later.”
“Unfortunately, since she doesn’t have a single interface, I can’t implant an artificial replacement. By the time I’ve put in the tech needed for a mechanical heart to work she’d already be gone. Unless we manage to find an organic option, and soon, I can’t do more than this and the stasis won’t hold forever.”
“Max.” everyone’s attention was brought to the main terminal which was glowing a bright pinkish orange, Lila’s true avatar on the screen. “What about project phoenix. I looked at the stats. They’re a match.”
“Lila… you do realize what you’re asking right?” Max asked, concern heavy in his voice.
“I do.”
“Alright…” inputting a few commands from his chair, a storage compartment opened up revealing a similar pod, only this one housed the same girl on the screen.
“Is that-” Alya began but couldn’t bring herself to finish.
“Yeah, it is.” Lila replied as she seemed to stare sadly at her own corpse. “when Gabriel, did what he did… he sold my body on the black market. Me and Max managed to find it before it was cut up, but the damage to the brain was too much. Max has been trying to hide that bit of info from me, maybe even try to lie to himself, but I already know the truth. I’m not coming back, at least not this way.” Her attention drifted to Sabrina who was beginning to understand the implications of what was about to happen. “The old me, the one long dead in that pod, she never once went out of her way for someone else, she never really could. She spent every day living by lying through her teeth. Other people were either targets or threats.”
“Sounds like a pretty lonely way to live…” commented Rose with sad compassion, remembering some of the patrons she couldn’t manage to save over the years.
“It was” replied Lila, a hollow chuckle punctuating her point. “It wasn’t until I ‘died’ that I finally found out that sometimes… people aren’t so bad. I somehow got myself a little brother in desperate need of my street smarts, but with a heart of absolute gold, and a Mom in desperate need of a vacation, but who actually looks at me, the absolute mess of a girl, and saw a daughter she actually said she was proud of… Heck if Clara keeps it up I might even have a second mom in the works.” There were some distortions to her avatar and you could swear they looked like tears. “and now that I know what it feels like to care about someone, I’m not about to let you lose the one you care about. Besides, we still need ‘Chameleon’ right now if we’re going to set things right after this.”
“Thank you so much Lila,” Sabrina replied, she reached a hand out to the terminal and her hand glowed ever so slightly the same color. It wasn’t a perfect touch, but Lila could feel the hand all the same, and Sabrina could the slightest sensation of someone grasping it.
“Lila,” Max caught her attention, “the promise still stands, I WILL bring you back one day.”
“I know you will Max. I’ll be looking forward to it. But for now we have a life to save, and the girl I once was deserves to do at least one good deed before she’s retired.” ———
Oh shit-
Well- damn Lila
Now that’s a fucking redemption arc holy shit
Thank you. That was fucking amazing.
I feel so bad for Aurore- what a trooper though- bitch got her heart exploded and she’s fucking fine
God dang
Poor Lila too—Holy shit I made her suffer in this au. Chameleon baby needs a break. Her accidentally becoming Adrien’s sister is really cute. I’m proud of her development, I hope I give her a happy ending.
Max and Lila being bro’s is lovely and fun. They’re too smart for their own good. This was amazing, thank you so much for this, I’m glad you guys like this au, I know I do.

hello beautiful people, it’s me, kiki, coming to you with an unfinished character and messy intro ! i’m twenty one yrs old uhhh i’m from the gmt timezone and currently dying bc of school ! anyways this is jaesun, a human who despises androids or well at least the android who basically stole his life kind of jlksdfjlskdj ! he’s annoying , doesn’t rlly care much about the feelings of others and wishes he was born in the 90s or something like that....
omg also i’ve never played the game before and i checked some wikias n vid of it and it looked so cool that i went to a game store and saw it was like 20 euros !! but i couldnt buy it yet and when i looked on the site just now it was back to 65 euros ............... im so stupid :c but okay carrying on JFDSLKJFD underneath is some more info about him so please take a lookie and give a heart pls if u wanna plot !!
tw: uhhh none that are very heavy, there’s a mentioned death but nothing too graphic
CHOI JAESUN. don’t sit on my dick if you’re afraid of heights !
000. QUICK STATS.
NAME: choi jaesun
AGE: twenty three
DATE OF BIRTH: 11 march 2026
GENDER: male
NATIONALITY: japanese... right fdjskl?
OCCUPATION: currently unemployed
001. BACKSTORY.
he’s one half of a pair or well, he was one half of a pair. jaesun lost his twin sister to a sudden heart attack, something that to this day still doesn’t make sense to him because she was so healthy and everything good but it only shows that death doesn’t discriminate. it wasn’t until two years after her death that his mom bought someone new into their house, an android to be exact one that looked eerily similar to his dead twin.
jaesun had always been fascinated by androids and how they worked so he was very excited to witness with his two eyes what this android could do. he wasn’t bothered by the appearance in the slightest, if anything, it somehow calmed him. because it looked almost identical to his sister jisun. her death certainly affected him a lot, because she was not only his sister but also his best friend.
at first jaesun loved to have the android around, someone who was willing to do chores around the house and who would cook but when he noticed his mother paying more and more attention to the android than him he started to despise the android.
now, he was never the favorite child that much he knew when jisun was still alive. but there was something hurtful about his mother favoring a fucking android more than her only child.
so not only he felt like he was less than the android, he and his mom started to fight more with his mom blaming his lazy ass for not doing shit in the house before and after jisun’s death and with jaesun blaming her for always comparing him to his sister and taking better care of the android more than her own son.
002. PRESENT.
WELL he moved out of the house and it was very dramatic and he got into a huge fight right, said “ i don’t ever wanna see ur face ever again ! ” but probably saw his mom a week later when he entered the apartment building......... since they uhhh all live in the same building i guess
anyway yeah the experience really gave him a bad outlook on androids, especially when he was also laid off of work soon after bc they were gonna hire androids instead bc the wages were a lot cheaper ... uhhhh okay
so now he’s just breezing through life with no real purpose and spends most of his time in rapture
003. PERSONALITY.
basically, he thinks he’s better than everyone else and isn’t afraid to show it ? i wouldn’t say he’s mean mean but he’s not kind either ?? for the most part he just doesn’t know why you, a zero, is talking to him, a 10. lmao ! he’s pretty indifferent if he hurts people bc he cares about him and him only ! basically, he’s like ... confident to the point where he’s conceited, bc he knows he’s hot shit jsdflkdfj
oh yeah, so, negative traits: conceited, candid positive traits: audacious, independent
basically, my whole damn inspo was singularity and watching 20 fancams of singularity
004. EXTRAS.
jesus i spent way too much time thinking about how he looks like... ugh.. why does tae have so many gr8 looks.... okay.. well hair ? black ? i think during fake love era ??? omg im going through it.. uhhh what do i add more, oh yeah ! buys expensive black / white basic shirts because he can n he likes the way he looks like a normal non-rich person when he wears an overpriced 270k yen ( ?? is there a diff currency ) black shirt lol but also wears dress shirts and trousers and nice shoes n a tie just because he wants everyone to now that he is a god amongst all of these humans n androids
can’t really.... keep relationships and is more into casual hookups / fwbs etc so he usually yeets the fuck out when someone catches feelings for him ( or if he caught feelings for someone else omg rip.. )
Choi Jaesun is Bad at Feelings
005. WANTED PLOTS.
all of these are open for further plotting of course !!
a best friend who put up with his shit & feed his ego !! has to be... human...
childhood friends someone who prolly still has embarrassing pics of him
someone he dislikes / can’t stand
unlikely friend / polar opposites
an android that he could consider a friend maybe ?

tw for: child neglect, bullying & sexual abuse
BACKGROUND
way before the great success of his books, hanbin was nothing but the only child of a very poor family living right near the docking areas of busan. both parents had to work three jobs to make meets end and grant their kid an education, but still hanbin was heavily affected by the lack of familial presence by his side, albeit not weighing it on the two at all.
being a very shy kid, tho, it was really hard for him to socialize, which is why he’d rather always spend time with books or with some paper to scribble on rather than playing with the other kids. it was a situation that never was brought up to hanbin’s parents attention simply because it was just seen as a juvenile shyness meant to disappear when growing older, something that only got worsened when at the beginning of high school he became target of bullies who would constantly point out his status and the fact he had to work after school. even then, hanbin never spoke about it and only closed himself even more into writing, winning a few poetry contests held in his school while starting the very first draft of what was going to become the first novel of his series.
speaking of his afterschool job ━a florist’s greenhouse where he had to tend the plants, not so far from the local arboretum━ , it was perhaps the only place where he felt safe and serene, and where hanbin himself said in various interviews that it helped him destress from the harshness of life and helped him write.
at the age of 18, he was framed by his bullies for an act of vandalism at the basement storage after he got dragged there with an excuse, and was found trembling and bleeding from his head nearby its entrance while the storage itself was essentially turned inside out. the incident left him very shaken and very prone to panic attacks towards sudden movements and unprompted touching. because of not speaking and not accusing anyone of what happened, he was pretty much considered guilty and forced to help one of his professors with afterschool work and ditch his actual job for that week as a punishment. it was that professor who found out of hanbin’s draft for his novel and encouraged him to try looking for an editor if writing was really what he aspired to do as a job.
that encouragement was the little spark this shy boy needed to go forth with his dream, actually signing with a known korean publishing house who had extremely appreciated his draft and only needed corrections and some more finessing to be done while he was busy graduating from highschool. he didn’t go to college due to lacking money for it and not wanting to become further weight for his tired parents, so he put all his heart and soul into alternating the greenhouse job and the final stages of his novel’s publishing.
serendipity came out exactly one and a half year later ( 2013 ), and its story was an unexpected yet gradual success that brought the young man’s name under the spotlight. wonder ( 2015 ) and euphoria ( 2017 ) managed to raise the bar even higher to the point the three books got a complete cover renovation and was approved for translation in several countries as well as an official name for the saga:the serendipity gospels.
the great success of the book had him finally being able to have enough money to do whatever he’s ever dreamed of: he finally moved from busan to bucheon, where he took a small studio apartment ( and also bought a small bookstore where he’s pretty much most of the times, selling very rare books and writing his own stuff ) and keeps travelling to seoul from time to time due to being often invited to attend conferences, be a guest on tv shows and of course, working with the editor.
HANBIN
the living proof that angels are real and are too good for any of us. he literally forgave his parents for not being with him because he knew they had to work and used the money from the first book to repay them for all the sacrifice they’ve done, and also made a gift to the greenhouse’s owner to thank him for being patient with him and letting him appreciate the beauty of flowers even more.
very soft. very, very shy. never raises his voice. rarely talks unless it’s being asked something to him or he really feels talkative. which again, very rare moments, and has this thick busan accent many think sounds cute on his soft voice. and gestures a lot with those tiny fingers. pls god.

he writes the most beautiful poetry and the most heartwrenching scifi book series ever conceived and has had people in tears for how euphoria ended, like how dare he. that’s offensive.
loves the sea like he loves books, flowers and eating samgyeopsal.
fans keep saying that the protagonist of the series, a mute boy called seokjin, is a literal author avatar of hanbin, which has also been brought up to his attention duringeuphoria’s press conference. he has of course said nothing on the question, simply saying that like every author, there’s a piece of him in every part of the books.
catch yourself falling in love with how he giggles when he’s gotten an idea and pitter-patters to get his notebook to write it down, cause that’s the sound of happiness. or how he literally keeps his feet in the water and smiles fondly at the horizon regardless of he sea being calm or stormy. or how his eyes sparkle when he’s found a book to read.
his manager still is so pissed at him for buying a bookstore last year… but hanbin just felt the old, hidden place calling for him okay? he had to. plus he’s still working on his own books, he can do both things mister grumpy just watch him
he’s pure pls dont break him

Monster Conversion - Blessed Ring (3.5 to PF1e)
Five years ago, I did a few conversions of monsters that could be used for/added to Throne of Night. One was the cavernivore and the other is what I’m posting today. What I didn’t realize is unlike the cavernivore, I hadn’t posted the blessed ring here. It was only ever on the Paizo forum. Whoops. That’s definitely on me. So today, since I’m done with the builds for Throne of Night, I thought I’d rectify my mistake and finally post the creature. No sense in it going to waste.
Like the cavernivore, this monster originally came from Complete Minions by Bastion Press. It was a CR 6. With the Pathfinder bestiary building rules, I’ve tried to keep it as such. When I first did a conversion, I didn’t realize just how unbalanced the original was, and kept it as it was. There was both a 3.5 and a 3.X version, both having different stats, and the DC for some of its abilities were incredibly deadly for evil characters. I mean, the 3.5 version had Con 20, 8 HD, and Ability Focus, on an ability that should only be DC 16. Instead, it was DC 21. I made sure to not keep the feat, but it was still a 19. I have since fixed this.
I said back then: here's a converted creature that you can put into the game. The DC's are a little high, but then it's save for half, and it doesn't have much in the way of standard attacks, so it's fine. This is a creature that absolutely should be found in the mushroom forest. Especially if you're playing good or neutral aligned characters. Maybe not so much for the drow. Although, that could be an interesting turn of events as well. Of course, just because the original is large-sized, doesn't mean that's what the PCs have to find. It's more than possible to find huge-sized ones to fit larger parties.
I was told that that this was already converted in “Malevolent and Benign“, but looking over it, they didn’t change anything other than adding CMB and CMD, and giving it Perception instead of Spot/Listen.
Before I get to it, I hope everyone’s staying safe right now.
Without further ado, the Blessed Ring.
BLESSED RING These large-sized mushrooms form a perfect ring pattern on the ground, but there is an odd lack of plant growth within their circle. Blessed Ring (CR 6; 2,400 XP) LG Large plant Init +2; Senses blindsight 30 ft., low-light vision; Perception +14 DEFENSE AC 19, touch 7, flatfooted 19 (–2 Dex, +12 natural, –1 size) hp 68 (8d8+32); regeneration 5 Fort +10, Ref +2, Will +5 Defensive Abilities plant traits; Immune acid OFFENSE Speed 0 ft. (immobile) Space 10 ft.; Reach 0 ft. Special Attacks acid spray (R-DC 18), digest (F-DC 18) TACTICS Combat The blessed ring does not enter combat directly, but if attacked in dome form, it sprays acid to defend itself. If attacked from the inside, it begins to digest the attacker. STATISTICS Str —, Dex 6, Con 19, Int 1, Wis 13, Cha 8 Base Atk +6; CMB —; CMD — Feats Alertness, Improved Initiative, Iron Will, Lightning Reflexes Skills Perception +14, Sense Motive +3 SQ camouflage, soul sense SPECIAL ABILITIES Acid Spray (Ex) The blessed ring defends itself by spraying attackers with a 15-foot cone of acid as a standard action. The acid inflicts 8d6 points of damage (Reflex half). The save DC is Constitution-based. Camouflage (Ex) A blessed looks like a normal plant when at rest, a DC 25 Perception check is required to notice it before it attacks for the first time. Anyone with ranks in Survival or Knowledge (nature) can use either of those skills instead of Perception to notice the plant. Digest (Ex) If the blessed ring detects an occupant that is evil, or if it is attacked from the inside, it attempts to digest all within its dome as a standard action. Creatures within the dome are heavily sprayed with acid, inflicting 8d6 points of damage (Reflex half). After four rounds of digestion, all items within the dome risk dissolving. Attended or magical items can make DC 18 Fortitude saves to survive; determine which of a character's items are affected as when rolling a natural 1 on a saving throw against a magical attack. The save DCs are Constitution-based. When the dome recedes after 8 hours, no trace is left of anything digested by the blessed ring. Anyone attempting to break through the dome must deal damage equal to one-third of the dome's total hit points (22) in order to make room for a Medium creature to pass through. As the dome heals 5 hit points per round, this is more difficult than it sounds. Soul Sense (Su) Five minutes after its dome is formed, the blessed ring uses this ability to determine the alignment of everyone within it and whether or not they are pure of heart. This ability acts as detect alignment. If it detects any evil-aligned creatures, the blessed ring attempts to digest its contents. It is possible to fool the ring with spells such as undetectable alignment. The blessed ring gets to make a Will save to see through the spell in these cases.
ECOLOGY Environment temperate forests Organization solitary Treasure none
To the weary adventurer, the blessed ring is a gift from the gods. Although rare, these simple rings of common toadstools can be found scattered throughout the wilderness. They are distinguished from normal mushrooms by their perfect ring pattern on the ground and the odd lack of plant growth within their circle. Close inspection reveals nothing special about the ring, but if any living creature lies down within the circle and remains still for 5 minutes, the ring begins to grow up around it, quickly forming an impenetrable dome of mushrooms roughly 10 feet across and 5 feet high. This dome can comfortably hold four Medium creatures. Anyone within the dome can rest completely protected from the elements, as well as from any marauding predators. After precisely 8 hours, the dome recedes, and within 1 minute, only the original ring of mushrooms remains.
There is little chance that anyone within the dome may be disturbed, as any attempt to attack or harm the dome during these 8 hours (whether from the inside or outside) earns the offender a spray of powerful acid.
The blessed ring is, however, something of a mixed blessing--five minutes after the dome is formed, the fungus uses its soul sense power on everyone inside of it. If anyone within the circle is evil, the blessed ring attempts to digest everything within it. Creatures trapped inside have only a few rounds to cut themselves out before they become fertilizer for the blessed ring.
Campaign
The standard use for the blessed ring is as a safe place for good or neutral adventurers to camp in the wilderness. How the heroes find out how to use the campsite is the challenge before them. The most common way is to have an NPC tell the players about the ring. If the PCs are passing through a dangerous wilderness, a trusted friend may explain to them its location and use.
Characters with the Knowledge (nature) skill can make a DC 20 check to recognize a blessed ring for what it is. Another way to tip the heroes off is to mark the ring on a map that the players find. Perhaps someone has scrawled "Safe camp here, Blessed Ring" on the map. Allow the PCs to figure the rest out on their own.
A less common use for the ring is as a rite of passage for certain tribes or religions. A clan of druids may require all new aspirants to stay a night in the blessed ring in order to prove their purity. Some primitive tribes also use the ring as a rite of passage into adulthood or as a final test for a new chieftain.
Of course, the heroes may find their own use for the ring. Perhaps they can trick an enemy into lying down in the ring, or maybe they can use the ring to destroy an evil magical item or artifact. The ring is as useful as it is deadly.
One last word of caution: Trust. It is quite an act of faith to lie down within the blessed ring with another person— make sure you know them well!

Tuesday Brewsday 17: Junderworld
Players and brewers have been clamoring for a competitive Jund list in pauper for as long as I can remember. However, there are two HUGE problem with putting together a decent list. Not only is pauper limited by its slow manabase, but the typical strategy for a Jund deck you might see in modern is already taken up by vastly more consistent Mono Black Control decks. I myself have tried affinity based variants, a Tron list, and a TortEx strategy all too no avail... actually the TortEx deck wasn’t half bad, but the old fashioned GB style just worked better. When Theros Beyond Death was announced and the Escape mechanic was spoiled I was hyped. Recurring threats that only get bigger, or enchantments that can continually be cast from beyond the grave!? Needless to say I immediately began brewing. What I came up with surprised even me, but is far from optimal I’m sure. Is it tier 1? Most likely not even tier 2, but it sure is sweet to play!
4 Chromatic Star
4 Navigator's Compass
3 Underworld Rage-Hound
4 Satyr Wayfinder
3 Mother Bear
3 Loathsome Chimera
2 Thraben Foulbloods
3 Faithless Looting
3 Blightning
1 Firebolt
3 Flame Slash
1 Mogis's Favor
2 Terminate
1 Eyeblight's Ending
1 Pulse of Murasa
3 Jund Panorama
4 Ash Barrens
2 Swamp
6 Mountain
6 Forest
1 Bojuka Bog
I want to start out by discussing the manabase and how the deck’s one drops function to help glue it all together. In order to consistently have the colored mana needed to cast spells efficiently, the deck will more often than not take its first turn to set up. With cards like Ash Barrens and Jund Panorama I felt like it was necessary to have a turn 1 colorless play that helped filter colorless mana. It might not be necessary to always cycle Ash Barrens or crack the Panorama, and having both Chromatic Star & Navigator’s compass helps steer you in the right direction without giving up too much tempo. Chromatic Star draws you a card when you sacrifice it to get any colored mana source you need, and is also fuel for the escape & delirium mechanic. Navigator’s Compass gains you three life when it enters the battlefield, which comes in handy against burn and aggro decks, and allows any land to be used as whatever colored source you need. The deck relies more upon its red and green cards to set up and get going which requires the six/six split between mountains and forests. In addition to running two swamps, I’m also playing Bojuka Bog since the ability to exile an opponent’s graveyard is something I’m willing to include an etb tapped land for. This setup should allow you to cast everything you need to on curve, but I’m always open to ideas on how to optimize the manabase in case I’m over filtering or there’s something I’m missing.
Now let’s get on to the meat of the deck, it’s creatures. In the two drop slot is Satyr Wayfinder. This creature which costs 1G is the cornerstone for any graveyard based deck, which we most definitely are. When it enters the battlefield we look at the top four cards of our deck, put a land card from among those four into our hand, and put the rest into the graveyard. This allows the deck to achieve delirium and set up escape for later in the game. Underworld Rage-Hound is an aggressive red creature that cost 1R with a 3/1 stat line which must attack each combat if able. Three power and one toughness isn’t all that great, but when you can escape it from the graveyard by exiling three other cards and paying 3R to get a 4/2 creature, it’s actually pretty decent. The last creature here in the two drop slot are three copies of Mother Bear, a vanilla 2/2 when you first cast it. However, since I anticipate binning it in the yard more often than not I really like it’s ability to create two 2/2 bear tokens for 3GG and exiling it when she’s in your graveyard. It’s kind of like a pseudo escape mechanic where I don’t have to exile additional cards.
Loathsome Chimera is one dumb ugly creature, but I just love the flavor text on this card. For 2G you get a a 4/1 creature which is very aggressive but extremely fragile. However, if you exile three other cards from your graveyard and pay 4G you can return Loathsome Chimera to the battlefield as a 5/2 threat. The last creature of the bunch is Thraben Foulbloods. These zombie hounds cost 2B and come in as a 3/2 creature, but if you have achieved delirium it becomes a 4/3 creature that can only be blocked by two or more creatures.
When you’re running a graveyard based strategy and playing red, you better be running Faithless Looting. It’s the best looting spell in pauper allowing you to draw two cards and discard two cards for just one red mana. It also has flashback which you can pay 2R to cast it from your graveyard and exile it afterwards. This allows you to fill your graveyard with cards you’re likely to get back or don’t need, and dig for cards that you need immediately. Since we have a lot of creatures that can be useful while in the graveyard, it’s ok to be aggressively binning then so that you can hold on to removal and wait till the mid game to strike hard.
What is a Jund deck without Blightning? This card does so much work for 1BR by dealing three damage to our opponent and forcing them to discard two cards. This brings you a little closer to achieving victory and hopefully depriving them of resources or answers they were holding on to. I wish I could fit four in the deck, but slots were tight and I feel like having three alongside looting from Faithless and card draw from Chromatic Star was good enough.
On to the removal package. Lightning Bolt is an iconic magic card that is soooo good, but I just couldn’t bring myself to run it. I needed something that could kill 4/4s since affinity seemed like a bad matchup when I was running Bolt. That’s why I’ve opted for three copies of Flame Slash which deals four damage for R at sorcery speed. Firebolt is a great card to have in a graveyard based strategy since it has flashback and can be cast from the graveyard. Terminate is our catch all removal spell which kills everything in the format outside of Hexproof creatures. It’s a little hard on the manabase though since it costs BR which is why I’ve decided to only run two. Mogis’s Favor can pull double duty as either a pump enchantment giving our creature +2/-1 or removal for one toughness creatures. It also has escape which allows you to pay 2B and exile two cards from your graveyard to cast if from the yard and return it to the battlefield. Lastly the deck is running Eyeblight’s Ending as a “conditional” removal spell. For 2B you can destroy any target non-Elf creature at instant speed, which is great, but you may be asking yourself aren’t there better removal options? Well yeah, of course there are, but Eyeblight’s Ending is a Tribal Instant which counts as its own card type when you’re trying to achieve delirium, and it’s the little things that matter. All in all, the deck runs 7 different card types thanks to Eyeblight’s Ending counting as it’s own unique type.
3 Electrickery
3 Nihil Spellbomb
2 Serene Heart
2 Gorilla Shaman
1 Weather the Storm
3 Red Elemental Blast
1 Pulse of Murasa
One of Jund’s main problems in modern as well as Pauper is that it has a horrendous Tron matchup. In modern there are a lot of sideboard options to help mitigate the problems a Jund player faces. In pauper, however, you’re probably better off just rolling over and conceding. However, for those willing to try to take the beast head on, you’ll find Nihil Spellbomb and Red Elemental Blast to be your choices to side in against them.
You should always be prepared for burn, but it’s also a deck I hate losing to. For that reason I like to pack Weather the Storm if I’m playing green and Pulse of Murasa to take advantage of our graveyard.
Serene Heart is strictly there for the Hexproof matchup and you pretty much just need to pray you catch them off guard with it and have Electrickery back up to clear the board.
Speaking of Electrickery, you’re going to bring this in against certain variants of Stompy, White Weenie, Elves, and blue decks that run faeries. Against those faerie decks you’ll also bring in Red Elemental Blast and possibly a Nihil Spellbomb or two to stop Mystic Sanctuary shenanigans with Deprive/Tragic Lesson.
Gorilla Shaman is your one way ticket to a win versus Affinity. The mox monkey is best played on turn three when you’re able to blow up a couple of your opponent’s lands before they inevitably have Galvanic Blast to kill it. Here is the list on goldfish.
Welcome to the Junderworld! Will you be able to escape defeat? Hopefully you don’t become delirious trying to do so. I have a couple other Jund decks lying around as well, but I really wanted to showcase the new Theros Beyond Death cards. If you want to see those Jund decklists in future write ups you can always email me at [email protected], and if any of you have submissions as well. Till next time folks, have a happy Brewsday!

IDEAS/RESEARCH TOPICS SURROUNDING ‘ALIEN’ (1)
- Alien could be a question of culture. Culture is something that we have created through human existence, which is the fundamental part of ‘separating’ us from other people who belong to different cultures. It could be said that in real terms, the land where we live bears no representation when considering who should be allowed to live there. Alienation is something which we have brought upon ourselves to try and filter out the ‘good and bad people’ from other places in the world. However, due to overpopulation, this alienation becomes blanketed to include whole groups of people, rather than individuals who are actually causing problems. (Example: terrorism – if the terrorists come from a specific religious group, that entire religious group can be called into question by members of society; therefore causing cultural rifts and alienation of certain people. In turn, this can cause racism and hate crimes to take place).
One of the main influencers of this form of alienation comes from biased news reports / reporting through media. It is a well known fact that newspaper reporters tend to tailer their reporting of certain issues to encourage their own views to be taken on by others. In the context of the alienation of migrants, an example of this can be seen in the following article written by The Sun Newspaper:
Immediately, you can see from the way the title is structured it has been put together to instil fear and threat from the use of terminology such as ‘gang’, ‘overrun’ and ‘HIJACK HELL’ written in capital letters. This, of course, straightaway causes the reader to believe that these migrants were aggressive and out to cause harm to the crew members of the ship. The rest of the article reads:
‘A GANG of 21 stowaway migrants overran a UK-bound ship after hiding in one of its cargo of 100ft wind turbine blades.
The crew, thought to be just ten sailors, made panicked radio calls to say they were outnumbered after discovering the Albanians.
It set off last Friday and they were found as it reached the UK coast on Tuesday.
A pilot required to guide the huge cargo vessel into port saw them on deck yesterday morning and decided it was too dangerous to escort in.
He returned with security, including border officials — but was said to be delayed bringing the ship in because police were “late” arriving.
The crew was left to deal with the migrants for almost 24 hours while officials worked out how to deal with them.
'HIDDEN FOR DAYS'
A source told The Sun: “It sounds mad but they were hidden in one of those huge turbine blades for days.
“No one thought to check in the blades at Bilbao and by the time the migrants jumped out, the ship was close to Britain.
“I think they were so tired and hungry they came across as much scarier than they intended and there were serious concerns they could take the ship.”
The Dutch-registered Rotra Mare finally docked in Great Yarmouth just after 2pm yesterday when Border Force and police were seen surrounding the boat.
The Albanians were today being processed by the Home Office, where a spokesman said: “They will be dealt with in line with the immigration rules.”
Bilbao is a hotspot for migrants, with 3,800 stowaway attempts foiled last year.’ (Pattinson, R. and Lucas, J., 2019)
“I think they were so tired and hungry they came across as much scarier than they intended and there were serious concerns they could take the ship.” - It is only at the end of the article that the writer chooses to include a quote from one of the crew members that demonstrates that these migrants were not in fact causing any intentional threat or risk of harm to the sailors after all. Of course, it would have been a shock to the sailors to find them as they were not expecting them - however at no point have they mentioned that they did anything to indeed ‘highjack’ the ship as described in the title of the article. This is a classic example of how selective ordering of information and use of specific terminology to twist and warp a story can cause alienation of migrants who, for all we know, are doing nothing but attempting to flee their country to seek a better life.
Considering alienation in the context of this article and similar: warping a story in such a way as The Sun have done here immediately causes a rift between the migrants and fellow human beings. Making them out to be aggressive causes fear, therefore stopping people from considering the bigger picture as to each of their individual reasons for fleeing their country. People seem to dehumanise these migrants, with the belief that we have automatic authority and control over pieces of natural land purely because we are able to tell people that it belongs to us. The isolation that this causes these individuals can only be imagined by people like us who are lucky enough to live in a country that provides us with comfort and safety unlike so many others.
- In our modern world, refugees are at the heart of alienation. It has become more apparent as the crisis increases that people view them as separate to that of ourselves, often forgetting that their reasonings for being forced to flee their country make them no different than you or I. In reverse, we would expect to be received in the exact same way. However, again, due to overpopulation, this can affect the facilitation of taking refugees into our countries to provide them with the help and support they deserve. According to Care.org, a charity which supports vulnerable people all over the world, we are currently experiencing ‘the worst refugee crisis in history’ (CARE., 2019). They state on their website that ‘every minute, 24 people around the world are forced to flee their homes. That’s 34,000 people a day who leave everything behind in the hope of finding safety and a better tomorrow. There are 70 million refugees in the world today’ (CARE., 2019). As many Western countries are already becoming increasingly over populated, it makes it difficult to accommodate every person who requires help. However, these countries have procedures in place to ensure that a steady amount of refugees are taken into their countries each year. However, according to recent figures, due to Donald Trump currently being in office as President in the United States, only a fraction of the usual amount of refugees have been accepted into the USA over the past year in comparison to previous years.
Refugee Figures (2018):
(Mark, M. and Gal, S., 2019)
‘President Donald Trump has dramatically restricted America's refugee intake since he took office. Though he has demanded that "extreme vetting" be implemented for refugees coming from majority-Muslim countries, those closest to the refugee-vetting process say the current system is already as extreme as it gets.’ (Mark, M. and Gal, S., 2019).
Donald Trump’s reasoning is to try and prevent terrorist attacks by groups such as ISIS, or under racial beliefs. However, according to Statista analysis, ‘of 114 mass shootings - using the Congress definition - between 1982 and May 2019, 110 were carried out by men. In the same time-frame 64 of the perpetrators were white, while 19 were black, 10 Latino and eight Asian.' (Taylor, R., 2019). Further statistics show that 'around 60% of America is white-only, while current stats show white people carry out about 58% of shootings’(Taylor, R., 2019) proving that the problem America faces is through their own doing; terrorism by migrants being the least of their worries whilst guns are as rife as they are. If this whole dynamic does not scream migrant alienation, then I do not know what does.
Time Magazine’s cover for August 2019 which features the details of every mass shooting that has taken place in America so far this year. It beggars belief that this has happened on such a large scale already this year:

so i wrote up a review/rambling about persona 5
you can either read it [here on twitlonger] or you can read it placed underneath the read more cause its super long and i dont want to make your dashboards gigantic
Persona 5: My Thoughts since it has been consuming my soul for the past few weeks, I thought it was about time I wrote up my thoughts proper on Persona 5 and not just some weird half sentence that I garbled at the bottom of the ocean. i'm not really formatting this much it's gonna be a lot of rambling and a bit scattershot but please bear with me. lets do this in categories and then an overall, shall we GAMEPLAY, THE BATTLE PART: How You Gonna Shoot With A Toy Gun the gameplay of Persona 5 is, well, incredible. it takes the one more system used since Persona 3 and refines it to an absurd degree. while the weaknesses of shadows still kind of don't make sense at all and the guessing game aspect of battles remains, everything else has been improved. battles are really, really fast and super satisfying. attacks look good and snappy, and nothing feels like it's dragging too long. but what Persona 5 adds to this mix that really puts it over the edge is demon negotiation. not only does it bring some of the most interesting aspects from Shin Megami Tensei proper into Persona (using your enemies as your new strength), it also gives a lot more value and strategy to knocking dudes down. in P3 and P4 your party members would ask "hey we gonna all out attack fam" and there was never really a time you would say no because, why? but in P5, a full knockdown results in a holdup, where you can extract money, items, or the demon itself as a persona out of the mix, as well as being able to just do an all out attack. this is F A N T A S T I C. it enhances a lot of aspects of the battle system, and really makes hitting weaknesses and figuring out what to do more satisfying. and as the icing on the cake, P5 added the baton pass system to battles, making them even more fluid and satisfying. in short, it lets one character, after hitting a weakness, pass their extra turn to another character, while boosting their stats for that attack. it allows for a lot more strategy and creativity, where your whole team can contribute. some of the most fun I've had with turn based battles. GAMEPLAY, THE RUNNING PART: I Gotta Have Me A Good Steal one of the more lackluster portions of Persona games was wandering around in dungeons, whether it be a giant tower to the moon or some bathhouse. outside of visual elements, they all bled together. floors were randomly generated to some extent, and you just wandered around, grabbing some items and fighting shadows that randomly spawn. it was serviceable, but nothing spectacular. P5 takes this and cranks everything up to 11 million. proper dungeons are now actually designed experiences, with shadows and layouts specifically made for each dungeon. every dungeon has its own mechanics and style that plays up the unique aspects of the person whose heart you're traipsing around on. but the biggest change is the way your character moves. with a full stealth system that's a blast to use, jumping from hiding spot to hiding spot, a lot of P5's dungeons are somewhat stealth oriented. being seen by shadows raises security and makes things harder, and if you're seen too much you gotta bail. but through ambushing enemies, you can undo the security raises of your mistakes, while also getting the huge advantages of an ambush. as well, being able to climb around the environment, jumping up walls and flipping around just feels and looks great. god damn. and just in case you really miss those randomized dungeons, don't worry! there's a fun and not too long randomized dungeon a la tartarus/midnight channel in the game too! GAMEPLAY, EVERYWHERE ELSE: I Can't Believe This Is Three Parts. Jeez here's where persona 5 doesn't make astronomical leaps and bounds forwards, but just some nice improvements. outside of dungeons/battle P5 follows the Persona formula. everything's on a timetable, and you can do one (1) thing in the day and one (1) thing in the evening, except if you A: are in a story event where for some reason your free time goes missing B: go to a dungeon and can't hire your teacher to give you a massage C: your cat says you're sleepy the overworld of P5 and the various locales in it are pretty interesting and fun to walk around in, but there's a lot of areas that exist solely for hanging out with confidants. if you just play properly though you really don't get much to any use out of them, and that's kind of disappointing for me. I wanted to visit more zones but what we have is very memorable. what P5 adds to the formula is the various boons granted by confidants, most notably Temperance (which you should really max ASAP that's a pro-tip) that will change certain things in daily life and in dungeons, but we'll get to that part later. from giving you access to more jobs, to allowing you more free time in class, to unlocking more fortune telling options, there's a lot of stuff to do. P5 also has a small selection of minigames to pass the time, from B A S E B A L L to F I S H I N G to C R O S S W O R D S and more. what's nifty is each minigame also can serve a practical purpose and raise social stats but we'll get there. the map showing you if confidants will rank up or not is nice, and fast travel is very generous in this game. not much else to say here. I don't get lost so that's nice SOCIALIZING: Who Taught You ___, Nasty Crime Boy ah.... confidants. aka social links, they're the meat of the non-dungeon crawling experience of P5. like in previous games, most major story characters that aren't complete scum or trying to kill you will have confidants, with ranks 1-10. this is where the visual novel/dating sim components show up, and there's not a ton to say here so i'll keep my rambling down to a minimum. each confidant has their own little side story that you partake in when they're free, where you read and then give answers when prompted. it can go as menial as "hey wanna go eat ramen" to "please come with me to help me save a little girl's life." based on your answers, you get points towards the next link. this game does something nifty where when you get points (1-3 notes) there will be a little additional uh, graphic and sound that plays that's kinda subtle but tells you that you have enough points to immediately rank them up again. that's a really good addition. you can romance people too, and you can romance EVERY girl in the game. who cares how much older than you they are just do it loser (don't actually) but here's where confidants change a lot in p5 from past things. in P3 they kinda were just to fuse hot personas, while in P4 they were mainly for that but also unlocked some abilities, but not a ton. mainly party members. in P5, every confidant gives several abilities that will greatly enhance your experience with the game and make your character grow a lot stronger. from giving party members the ability to endure blows and baton pass, as well as recover from ailments, to the even more absurd non party member abilities. some confidants let you swap party members in battle, allow you to breeze through negotiation, get double money, reduce security levels, buy and modify weapons, get free time in class, read fortunes and get bonuses based on that, and so on. this makes (nearly) every confidant not just useful on a "hey man i wanna fuse a good persona" level, it makes them invaluable to your characters growth. it makes the visual novel part much more important, and more enjoyable. plus they're (nearly) all fantastic little stories that flesh out each character and the world around you. lastly and real fast, most confidants will give you a mission to go complete in the other dungeon, mementos, in order to help them through their struggles and advance their story. these minibosses give out a lot of good money, items, and exp, as well as being a fun part of the story and something else to do in mementos. it's neat. oh yeah and confidants are now no longer on such a rigorous schedule like previous games, and a lot more accessible and free flowing. its nice SOCIAL STATS: Eating A Burger Made Me The Perfect Man i'm devoting a whole section to this. buckle up kids. P5 has 5 social stats, knowledge, guts, proficiency, kindness, and charm. each of them has 5 levels of progression. (you start at 1). some stats, like proficiency, give tangible boosts. however, almost all social stats are progressed solely for the sake of starting and advancing confidants. you need X level knowledge to start Y confidant, you need X level proficency to advance Y confidant at rank Z, and so on. raising social stats is accomplished through various overworld activities and whatever, and take up time. however, in order to max all confidants, and most of them honestly, you're going to need rank 5 in every social stat. sure, fine, its a conscious design decision. here are my complaints, notarized 1: first time through, it's not communicated well what activity boosts what, but more importantly how MUCH each activity boosts a stat. 2: while you can check what stage each social stat is at, there is no way to tell how much you've progressed to the next rank. just pour it in and pray. 3: some stats (KINDNESS) are very difficult to raise optimally as they may require rng events to give you the full 3 note boost as opposed to 2 notes. 4: some confidants give you social stats which WOULD be good but they only give you them on rank up. outta here w/that without prior knowledge, your first month or two of P5 is gonna be filled with poor scheduling decisions because how could you know that X activity is actually terrible for raising the stat you want? and since it takes up time (usually an evening slot), it really hurts your confidants overall. with good decisions and scheduling, you can actually max confidant (minus autos that will just progress through plot) with nearly a month to spare, but that waste and sufffering of the start may make you miss out on several confidants. it's a good idea, but still needs work and feels really cheap sometimes. (WHY DO I NEED 5 PROFICIENCY TO HELP A GIRL GARDEN WHAT THE FU) PLOT: Ya'll Wanna Read Some Anime this will be much lighter than the rest because I don't wanna spoil the plot so here's very broad strokes. the plot of Persona 5, overall, is very compelling and enjoyable. it's not perfect by any means, and has its dips in quality (anyone want a burger), but I enjoyed pretty much the whole thing. we'll get into characters separately BUT i found the narrative to be much more engaging than Persona 4 and as compelling as Persona 3. it's much darker than P4, but still maintains moments of levity and fun, even when dealing with serious issues. its take on rebellion, the subconscious, and shadows are all very enjoyable. it does suffer from a few frankly stupid conflicts between party members to build ~drama,~ but 99% of the time interactions between the characters and the world around them are wonderful. a real sense of camaraderie and friendship between the cast is evident and helps shape the narrative. it does suffer from a bit of "wow some of these kids are stupid/lack common sense" but its nowhere to the severity of Persona 4's "gee who is that on the tv gotta wait a week to find out" style stupidity to keep the plot rolling and not solve things instantly, but it will occasionally hit that type of thing. but that's a nitpick as it happens infrequently. to try and not spoil anything, the ending arc does suffer from a bit of P4 syndrome too wherein the last and true conflict kind of comes out of nowhere, but less so this time. it's still something I'll say is a minor problem, but the actual writing and gameplay/moments of the final arc ultimately redeem that. on replay you can see SOME hints but it's not built up enough In My Onion. hope i didnt spoil anything lets move on CHARACTERS: I Was Gonna Type Waifu Wars And Then Jesus Wept again, I will attempt to dance around spoilers here. I feel like the characters of P5, with how much emphasis is placed upon your bonds with them and the existence of the confidant system, deserve their own little writeup. with two exceptions I love every single major character/confidant in the game. one of them has their character arc go up in flames for a bit to stir up ~drama~ but ultimately regains its footing by the end, while the other just sucks. some confidants may be a bit slow to start (DEVIL) but by the end of each confidant i was very attached to each character, and was utterly charmed by them. the main cast are all extremely charming with full-ish character arcs approaching p3 level. in fact, one of my favorite smaller details in the game is the small conversations characters have while driving around in mementos. the writing and character banter is well written and charming, with characters all having their own distinct personality and vibe. this helps the school life portions of the game a LOT, as now school trips and various other events where in other games I cursed them for stealing my free time (mainly p4 but p3 has a few), they're snappy and fun. there's some anime thrown in there so if you can't stand a bit of melodrama and long winded rambling, then some things might not land as much for you as they did for me, but I feel that P5's characters have something for everyone. no matter who you are, you're going to love at least ONE of the many confidants available. ART/SOUND: I Have Listened To Whims Of Fate Over 100 Times And Don't Plan To Stop I'm no art critic and I'm not gonna pretend to be one so I'll keep this short. the art design in P5 is some of the best, if not the best I've ever seen, at least for my tastes. every little aspect of this game is incredibly stylized, from the more dramatic like all out attack finishers, to even the simple things like menus. everything is positively BURSTING with style and personality, all while functioning as a slick and fun interface. and I mean everything. even the text boxes. if you haven't played it, just look up the all out attack compilation. or look at screenshots of the menus. it's really hard to put into words just how happy it makes me. the color scheme of red, black, and white also reminds me a lot of persona 2 and i love you p2 please remake p2 as one complete game package atlus finally, the music. every single persona game (and nearly every megaten game) has a fantastic soundtrack, and this one is no exception. honestly? just go listen to it and see for yourself. the vibe/aesthetic they chose for P5 is one that I don't really have the ability to describe for I am an uncultured fool who plays games all the time, but it is SO good. while I still prefer the P3 soundtrack mainly due to bias, the p5 soundtrack is one of the most solid overall soundtracks in any game. to add to this, the sound DESIGN of p5 is also phenomenal. music changing with the weather, small details of adding instrumentation to a song over time and progression, and the use of leitmotif all really sell the game. the vocals still have a bit of "yeah thats a non native speaker singing english" but the songs are so good and the singing is so good anyways that it doesn't really matter. because its fun here's my p5 song ranking 1: whims of fate 2: with the stars and us 3: nothingness...? 4: days when my mother was there 5: life goes on/rivers in the desert 6: theyre all so good help OVERALL: I Am Erect in summation, this game is really, really, REALLY good. i'll wait for the dust to settle in my soul to rank it properly, but this is easily one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had in a video game. the best Persona game easily, and possibly the best SMT/Megaten game as well. this may sound like hyperbole but this game is genuinely everything I've wanted out of an RPG. atlus is really knocking it out of the park lately with SMT4: Apocalypse being one of the best RPGs ever made and now this. i cannot recommend it enough. even if you usually don't enjoy turn based RPGs I still recommend giving it a try. I usually hate visual novels, and I enjoyed every second of my tons of reading. just be warned, this is a longass game. my first playthrough took around 70 hours, and I generally get through games faster than most. ng+ is fun too to send this ridiculously long thing off, I will now proceed to list my top 10 characters of P5 because I love lists. 0-BIAS: Takemi 1: Futaba 2: Sae 3: Sojiro 4: Makoto 5: Yusuke 6: Iwai 7: Chihaya 8: Morgana 9: Hifumi 10: Kawakami GORO AKECHI: Goro Akechi THE WORST ONE: Shinya tl;dr: Persona 5 is one of the greatest games ever made and it made me feel alive thanks for reading everyone, and as a sinful man once said; "Please don't troll me online."

A loss that will never be forgotten...
I’ve often time wondered what life is all about? Why we are put here? and is it true that we all have that so-called ‘number’? If our days left on this beautiful planet is based on a so called number, then how many days do we have left?
My family said goodbye yesterday to a man who was never shy, had no filter, was never afraid to speak his opinion regardless of where he was. He often came across as arrogant, ignorant and disrespectful BUT yesterday as I pulled up to the Anglican church I realized that losing him wasn’t only a loss to my family but a loss to the community, a loss to the political world, a loss to the province and to all who knew him.
This man was my uncle - my mom’s brother - a man whom I could have a political conversation with, discuss world events, the latest stats of the top NHL team, ways of improvising, the famous do’s and don’ts of cooking...this man had a bigger heart than most people I know and as the saying goes, would give you the shirt off his back if he absolutely had to without hesitation.
The gift of giving. I remember a time during my teenage years when he stopped by my parents home with a small pine box - sealed with numerous tiny finishing nails - approximately 5 mm apart. The idea behind this was I had to find a way to open the box to receive my surprise. With the help of my father and several chuckles from my Uncle R, the box was opened and the inside surprise was freed - $250 in coin. As a teenage that was HUGE. This was the type of person my uncle was.
Over the past 10 years he has struggled in more ways than one after a late diagnosis of thyroid cancer. The tumor was removed through surgery along with his thyroid - iodine treatment shortly followed and the road to recovery commenced. I believe once you have cancer it never truly disappears - I believe when a medical professional tells you that you are now in remission - it’s silently hiding, waiting for it’s next attack and in his case it did just that only it moved to his spine. Throughout the process of another operation Uncle R lost function of his hands and later his limbs. February 2018 - September 2nd, 2018 was his last hospital stay. He succumbed to his long battle, and although he was told there was nothing that could be done for him a month prior he continued to fight - he was more determined than ever to defy the odds and go home - to gain the strength in his legs and begin to walk again once again. That is courage - courage we need to teach everyone and commend them when we see it. It take's a lot of guts and willpower to beat the views of a medical professional but I'm proof that it can be done.
Witnessing someone else’s strength enables one to let go easier during their passing.
...always remembered.

PDL Week 5 Recap
PDL Week 5 Recap
We return from the bye week and each team has had an extra week of training to help them prepare for their matches. Let’s see how they did.
DEP vs. NWN: 0-6
HEH vs. BAL: 0-2
VAV vs. AUK: 0-1
BFS vs. NJJ: 6-0
TOT vs. BEN: 6-0 (Forfeit)
COG vs. SHS: 4-0
SLC vs. ITA: 2-0
NYY vs. LOL: 0-3
PIP vs. HFW: 1-0
JAX vs. DCC: 0-5
BLP vs. MIN: 0-5
MID vs. MIL: 4-0
This week featured the top 2 teams in each division going head to head in some crazy battles and at the end of it. There is only 1 team left that is undefeated. Geo and the Columbus Gallades atop the standings. This is proving to be a tougher year of PDL than anyone expected. Any team has the potential to take down any other team on the right day.
After 5 weeks of play, lets look at the top 5 on the MVP race. At the top we have Snorlax from BFS with 13 kills and only 2 deaths with a +/- of 11. The next closest is Excadrill with 9 Kills, 1 death and a +/- of 8. Following we have 3 pokemon tied with +/- of 7. Tapu koko with 8 kills 1 death, and Tornadus-T and Vileplume with 7 Kills and 0 deaths. 7 more weeks to rack up kills and prove who is the MVP this season.
Pick’ems
This week was full of upsets and that caused most people to be less than accurate in this weeks predictions. NWN had a 3-9 upsets along with SLC 2-10, PIP 3-9 and MID 4-8. While people are learning who to pick based of previous weeks anything can happen as the closest person had 10/12 correct. Who knows maybe next week someone will get it all right.
Trades
We had a bunch of trades this week so lets see how things went down.
AUK Terrakion T1 Free Agent Weavile BLP Dhelmise T3 TOT Feraligatr TOT Feraligatr T2 BLP Dhelmise BLP Feraligatr T2 Free Agent Medicham TOT Turtonator T4 Free Agent Granbull NYY Escavalier T4 Free Agent Alolan Dugtrio HFW Honchkrow T3 Free Agent Greninja (Torrent)
The first thing we see is TheBritishGent relapsing and making more trades to feed his addiction. In all reality we see Power being swapped for more power, and and different mons of the same type being interchanged. I know I can speak for myself when I say that, I looked at my future matchups and saw that the potential for Honchkrow to make an appearance was going to be slim so I looked for another mon that could fill his shoes and off more to my squad overall and I found that in Greninja. I think these changes could have a real impact. Nothing says scary like Weavile or hip like Alolan Dugtrio… anyways lets move on…
Interview with Lynian
This week I’m joined by the trivia master himself Lynian
Clod9: Thank you Lynian for taking the time to answer these questions for the fans. This is your big reveal into battling within PUCL, how is it going so far?
Lynian: I would like to think it’s going well! I haven’t made a complete ass of myself, at least, with some respectable wins under my belt. Adjusting to draft league has been a bit of a journey, but I think I have a good team and a solid grasp on what it can do.
C9: How did your draft go? Were you nervous?
L: I was very, very nervous. I was so nervous, in fact, that instead of typing Thundurus-I, I typed Tornadus-I. Well, what can you do? I recovered, calmed down, and the resulting Porygon-Z pick up has done wonders, so I’m quite happy with how it went. Even if DrShamu stole my Zygarde, forcing me to take Landorus.
C9: What are your goals for this season of PDL?
L: I would like to think that I’ve already accomplished them! I went into this hoping above hope that I might actually pull a single win out, and to my surprise, I’m doing much better than I expected! As we settle into the back half of the season, I think my goals are making the playoffs. I can lose the first round, but I’m going to do my damnedest to make it there.
C9: Who are most looking forward to battling this season?
L: I’m really looking forward to battling the rest of my division. So far, I’ve only fought Geo, and I don’t like the look of my 0% in-division win rate. I hope to fix that, and shortly.
C9: Is there anyone you are glad you don’t have to face in the regular season?
L: R. Sigma, Seth Vilo, DrShamu, and well, you. Sigma has an eerie amount of foresight, Shamu is just a better battler than I, Seth is a stall monster who needs to be stopped, and you are just me but better.
C9: You are also sponsoring the Create a Pokemon Competition. How did that come about?
L: About the time of the UUTC, I was looking over the tentative calendar for the year, especially all of the community events and tournaments. I realized that if someone wasn’t into Pokemon for the competitive scene (cards, battles, or badges), there really weren’t any events for them. As a fan who loves the world and collection as much or more than the actual core gameplay, this didn’t sit right with me. So, I gathered up a few cohorts, and we drafted up a plan so that people who were more into non-battle mechanics could have a chance to shine.
C9: if you had to create a Pokemon what would it be?
L: See, now it feels like I’m being evaluated on my credibility! Well, if I had to pick one of my ideas, I really like the Fire/Grass Pokemon based on pyrophytes (plants that require fire as part of their reproductive cycle) that I have made. I call it Flakseed. It looks like a tank. The other one that I liked was a Psychic/Bug Pokemon called Paramoth, based around the idea of the “butterfly effect.” It was an oversized moth with clocks as wings, and it had a unique ability that applied the crit-boosting effect of Super Luck and the effect of Serene Grace… to every Pokemon on the battlefield.
C9: Why did you choose the team name, Salt Lake Combees?
L: Well, my home state has a relative dearth of sports teams, other than the Jazz, and I couldn’t come up with a good pun for it. I settled on using the Salt Lake Bees, a minor league baseball team, as the base, but I knew another team was taking the Beedrills. Figuring that a minor league team doesn’t need a fully-evolved Pokemon, I settled on the Salt Lake Combees.
C9: Were there any secret techs that you brought for your matchups that you didn’t get to showcase?
L: I think the only secret tech that I brought that didn’t get to see any play was Sludge Wave on Tornadus on my week against Sparky. He didn’t bring any of his Fairy mons, so the tech sat unused. Tornadus also got knocked out in the match against Whimsicott before getting to set off Defog to clear her Aurora Veil, but that doesn’t feel special enough to qualify as a secret tech… Oh! Due to an unlucky crit, I never had the health to pull it off, but I did have Z-Gravity on my Landorus one week, hoping to sweep with the +Sp. Atk boost to my Earth Power.
C9: Who would you say is the mon you are most excited to use on your team this year?
L: Honestly, I have no idea. I’m genuinely excited to use two of my personal favorites in Galvantula and Porygon-Z, but part of me is just happy to see Magmar doing anything at all. NFE Pokemon are really good in this meta, man.
C9: Let’s learn about you as a pokemon Fan. When did you start listening to PUCL?
L: It’s been just about a year, actually! I dived into the chatroom quick, and the rest is history. One thing to note, I actually listened to all of the Game Corners before I listened to a main show! I was so confused when everyone was talking about this Thatch guy. Snag loves it when I tell that story.
C9: What pokemon generation did you start with?
L: The very first video game that I owned was Pokémon Sapphire. I’m confident my mom just bought it for me when she got my GameBoy because I had watched some of the “cartoon.” Little did she know that I would play it almost exclusively, well past childhood.
C9: What is your favorite region?
L: Alola, full stop. The region was bursting with life. Every area felt distinct, but still one region. People often say that it was too “tropical” or had too little variation, but the consistency was something I found that tied it together more than bored me. Instead of “Pokémon Urban Outskirts #412”, each area felt like it fit. Not to mention the fairly great representation of Hawaii!
C9: Who is your favorite pokemon?
L: Minior, no doubts. I love the goofy little boi. When I first saw it, I was mostly unimpressed by its design, but the gimmick of the ability had me interested. Now, though, I love the swirly glasses and the candy colors! It looks like something that would fly silently, but instead makes airplane noises with its mouth (that would, of course, get muffled by the rock casing). It’s currently my phone background.
C9: If you had to pick: Attack or Special Attack?
L: Boy, oh boy, is this an interesting question. See, besides having two different stats to resist, both attacking stats are affected very differently by battle. See, Attack is a dynamic stat where Special Attack is much harder to influence. Want to boost attack? Swords Dance, Huge Power, Moxie, Defiant, or a myriad of other effects are widely available and usually influence it either by multiple stages or by being easy to trigger. Want to cripple a physical attacker? Intimidate and Burn are also widely available. The reverse is not true. Other than Snarl, how do you effectively drop Special Attack? Most moves to raise it are either rare, or specifically Calm Mind, too, so raising it is hard. All things being even, I like the consistency of Special Attack over the dramatic highs and lows of Attack.
C9: What is your battle style: Stall/Hyper Offense/Bulky Offense/Balance?
L: Ha. Haha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *Cough* The preferred Lynian strategy is 5 sweepers and a pivot. I think that speaks for itself. I like to smash things. :3
C9: Do you prefer Speed or Trick Room?
L: My brain says Speed, but my heart says Trick Room. I think out of specific edge cases (like best boy Stakatakatkatkataktakakatkataktakaktaktaktaktaka), I prefer to have something faster than something that functions under a gimmick in general. It just sucks when your team requires the move in play and you don’t get a chance to set it up.
C9: What is your favorite Weather; Hail/Sand/Rain or Sun?
L: Hail and Sand (outside of specifically my Mono-Rock team) are horrible and I hate them. I think I prefer Sun to Rain, if only because multiple types can flourish under it, while Rain is mostly limited to Water-types. Chlorophyll, Solar Beam, and Flower Gift are some examples of Grass-types getting a nice boost, with the increased damage to Fire-moves giving them a strong edge.
C9: Electric/Misty/Grassy or Psychic Terrain?
L: The terrains are an interesting concept, but I find them more or less bland weather. Grassy Terrain’s passive healing aside, I forget they are in play half of the time. I would think Psychic Terrain is my favorite, but only because Tapu Lele not having to worry about priority is nice. I wouldn’t carry a terrain move if I could avoid it. Maybe for Draft League.
C9: Favorite status to inflict: Sleep/Freeze/Paralysis/Burn or Poison?
L: I think it’s got to be Freeze. You see it so rarely and knowing the sheer defeat that a Frozen Pokémon inflicts on its trainer is just delicious to watch.
C9: Have you watched the Pokemon anime? If yes, what is your favorite Theme song?
L: I have watched the show since I was a little kid, and I doubt there is a theme song from the show I can’t sing other than the Gen 5 ones after the first, and the English version of the Sun and Moon one (I watch subtitled episodes because I have no patience). Hard choice between Pokémon Johto and Advanced Challenge.
C9: That is all the time we have for today! Until next time, Clod-out!

GDS3 Answers, Questions Added
1: What single color is a 5/5 with Prowess and Menace?
1: Menace is a red-black keyword, and Prowess is red-blue. Venn diagram says Red!
2: What rarity is it?
2: It’s too much for common and not enough for rare. Uncommon it is!
3: If you change one keyword, which combination results in a card that can’t be monocolor?
3: Lifelink and Menace can be done in black; Hexproof and Prowess can be done in blue; First Strike and Prowess can be done in Red. Vigilance is WG, which doesn’t intersect with Menace’s RB.
4: What color combination is a CMC 4 Sorcery, Gain control of target creature until end of turn. Untap it. It gets +1/+1 and gains haste, hexproof, and trample until end of turn.
4: Ohh boy, question 4 ground my gears. The threaten effect is clearly red, which also allows for haste and trample. Therefore it seems that hexproof is the only thing that needs to be added, which can be in blue or green. I chose Red-green as my answer, but partly because I learned there was a typo where hexproof was replaced by deathtouch, and partly because question 6 strongly suggests that this was correct. Is it the +1/+1 stat boost that tips the scales?
5: What is that card’s rarity?
5: Threaten effects are usually common; this has too many abilities, but it’s just not a good rare. Uncommon it is.
6: Keep the color combination. Which change are we least likely to make?
6: Sorcery to instant is unlikely, but red gets the effect as an instant on occasion. The last two answers suggest the original card was red-green (there shouldn’t be two out-of-color answers). But if you change haste to double strike, you effectively brick the card. I guess you’re…spending 4 mana to get rid of a blocker for a turn, with a random huge bonus if it had haste?
7: Which phrase is a follower of white’s philosophy least likely to say?
7: Tricky. White is generally not preemptive about attacking evil, but it certainly doesn’t act from the heart. White is about the rules, and it actually follows them.
8: How about blue?
8: Blue heavily favors nurture over nature. Your genes are fascinating, but they do not determine your self.
9: How about black?
9: The idea of putting others ahead of yourself is not a black idea.
10: What about red?
10: Red revels in its mistakes.
11: Green?
11: Killing for sport is not green even though there are natural animals that do it.
12: If we brought back the battle cry mechanic in a Ravnica set, which guild would get it?
12: Battle Cry is a slam dunk for Boros.
13: Which effect is usually seen on more instants than sorceries?
13: Of the abilities on the list, only direct damage is frequently seen at instant speed, much less more often.
14: What’s the biggest issue with a 2G Sorcery that gives a target creature +3/+3 until end of turn; on your next turn it gets +2/+2, and the turn after that +1/+1?
14: Memory issues! Tracking something for three turns? BLECH
15: What hybrid colors is a creature with Flash whose power and toughness are equal to the number of cards in your hand?
15: Easy lookup: “Maro” abilities are blue and green.
16: What’s the most likely rarity?
16: They’re basically always rare.
17: What ability could be added without changing its colors?
17: Curiosity is also UG. (Interesting question: it says to use your answer from question 15; does that mean if you chose other colors the right answer would change?)
18: A player finishes their first game of Magic. What do we care most about?
18: Direct from a zillion articles and podcasts: success means they want to play again.
19: When designing a card for Spike, what’s most important?
19: Spike wants to win by outplaying the opponent. Easy.
20: What does it mean if a card is “too slow for tournament play”?
20: Too slow means the games last too long. Doesn’t matter how many turns, how much commentary, or even which player is taking all the time: the rules for games that go too long are deeply unsatisfying. (This would be much harder if they’d had the teaser answer of, it comes out too late in the game to be good in a tournament setting)
21: You’re working on the next Commander decks. What’s the most important goal?
21: Introducing new cards for old formats has proven ineffective and unpopular, you want your new product to support new decks, they no longer bother balancing colors in Commander products, they’re fine using old themes like tribal…but the big splashy commanders are there to get your gears turning for making your own super sweet deck.
22: Which of the following is weakest in a typical draft format?
22: No matter how good a 10 drop is, you’re probably never going to cast it.
23: Which is the strongest?
23: 2 power for 2 mana is the gold standard in limited. You want more of them than any other size that passes the Vanilla Test.
24: The lead of a set has removed a black instant removal spell from their set and wants replacement designs. Which quality is most important for your designs?
24: If a card’s coming out of the file, you don’t want to replace it by unbalancing the colors. It should be black.
25: Why are green’s common creatures better than white’s?
25: Enemy colors: who cares? History: who cares? Green loves powerful critters? So does everyone else! But White has stronger removal, and that means it doesn’t need to put as much of its power points into the creatures because they’ll find a way.
26: Which color gets the second fewest common creatures in a typical set?
26: Design skeleton article conveniently tells us the order of number of common creatures is WGBRU, so Red is second fewest. Sadly, the actual numbers don’t always make this visible, so if you looked at actual sets you were boned.
27: Which keyword does design have to be most careful about using?
27: Most of the others are fairly innocuous. Hexproof gets annoying easily, especially with evasion.
28: We don’t like to make two-colored cards that could be done in just one color. If you’re designing a two-color 4/4 creature with flying and vigilance (and nothing else) which of the following combinations is best?
28: White gets Serra Angel, so remove all the answers that have White. The only other color with Vigilance is green, which doesn’t fly. Fortunately, black does. Green-black it is. Weird design? Yes, but it’s technically doable.
29: Which quality is most important for a set to have?
29: If you didn’t answer “it’s fun to play,” this is not the opportunity for you. Second best answer would be strategic depth.
30: Which creature keyword tends to have the most value in a control deck?
30: A control deck’s creatures shouldn’t be worrying about trading/blockers, so that eliminates First Strike, Trample and Menace. Control decks want to attack after stabilizing the game, so Haste is less relevant. Lifelink helps stabilize the position, and is thus the best answer.
31: Why does R&D tend to draft with exactly eight players?
31: Most of the answers are irrelevant and/or bald lies. Drafting is optimized for eight players, it’s what people strongly desire when they draft, and so it’s what R&D is going to test it at.
32: You’re designing a card you want Play Design to like. How should you choose the casting cost?
32: If you miscost it, a certain amount of Play Design’s impression is going to be on that wrong cost, thinking it’s somehow relevant. Ask an expert: there’s usually a dev rep on the team for this very purpose.
33: Which keyword is most likely to be put on a common white creature?
33: Vigilance is often seen at common; the others (almost) never are.
34: How good should a counterspell-based blue deck be in Standard?
34: Counterspell-based decks are a thing of the distant past, and not one anyone wants to go back to.
35: Assuming the card is good enough to see Standard play, which of the following isn’t a good quality for a green creature to have?
35: Most of these are fine, but Green creatures need to get into combat to draw beyond being a cantrip.
36: Which Ravnica guild would get Storm if it were to be brought back?
36: Storm is very spell-based. So are the Izzet. This question has been directly lifted from Blogatog.
37: A synergy theme in a set needs you to draw specific cards, and it isn’t happening enough. Which of the following mechanics would not help increase the frequency?
37: Investigate and Cycling draw you deeper into your deck by drawing. Transmute searches for whatever* you need. Scry digs you deeper by moving cards around. Kicker can do any of this, but in general does not.
38: Which of the following Legends cards would be most reasonable to recost into a competitive Standard card?
38: Acid Raid, Land Tax, and Arboria are not good effects to have. Presence of the Master isn’t great, given how many decks don’t play enchantments. Mana Drain variants still come up on occasion, so it’s the best choice.
39: Which category of players dislikes cards that give big swings in gameplay outside the player’s control?
39: Spike wants to win through good play, not coin flips or other high-variance possibilities.
40: Which of the following cards is typically the strongest in limited play?
40: Bombs, removal, fliers. Removal > fliers. Pacifism is the best of these.

ha, i’m on something of a streak — just played my 3rd mtg limited event in as many days. this time out, it was an hour of devastation draft at red castle games.
similar to the theros throwback draft i did on friday, red/white aggro was what jumped out at me early, though if i decided to bail on either of those colors i picked up a decent sideboard of green cards, too.
i didn’t have a chance to build around the “exert” mechanic much in in past events, and this time lots of good pieces came together to enable that. glory-bound initiate was my pack-1-pick-1, and trueheart twins & vizier of the true came my way later, with their triggered abilities to make the most of exerted creatures. angel of condemnation was passed to me too, which i gladly snatched up.
i went 2-1 overall, with one incredibly close loss being the deciding factor between having a 3-0 record instead; more on that in a sec. on the flipside, i also came back from a huge gap in another game (me at 1 life, them at 17) to one-turn-kill my opponent. they had swung in with everything & had no blockers left; i had a thorned moloch with a dagger of the worthy equipped (and one -1/-1 counter on it). i cast both halves of onward to victory on my lone creature, and all told with prowess & whatnot it buffed him up to a 9/2 with double-strike. good for 18 damage and a surprise win!
for the close game i lost, here’s the boardstate for the deciding turn — it’s my opponent’s turn; all those creatures are good to attack; i’m at 18 life and my opponent is at 1:
(link to big version)
their board: 4/4 thresher lizard, 4/4 aerial guide (both returned as 4/4 tokens by hour of eternity the previous turn), firebrand archer, hyena pack, angler drake, minotaur sureshot, a trial of knowledge enchantment, a single card in hand, with 7 mana open (and a heart-piercer manticore in the graveyard)
my board: trueheart twins, defiant khenra, angel of the god-pharaoh, vizier of the true, aven of enduring hope, no cards in hand, all mana tapped out
have an idea of what the best play is here, on both sides? it’s pretty complex, thanks to heart-piercer manticore in particular! i’ll reveal what my opponent did & how i responded below the fold, along with my full decklist.
as a note, i might be wrong about one thing — i think my opponent has two hards in hand in this pic. i believe it was a land they dropped, since i recall them having 8 mana open before committing to their plan, which was to swing with everything. (i had to laugh at this a bit, since we’d hit time & rounds, and they spent 5-10 minutes thinking it out only to just go all-in at last). the aerial guide gave the thresher lizard flying as they attacked, and with a single card in hand, its stats were bumped up to a 5/6.
i wanted to block in such a way that i’d be able to keep both my exert creatures alive, since i knew heart-piercer manticore had to be coming back after combat and at the very least would be a blocker. i figured vizier of the true would probably get killed by the manticore’s etb trigger, but didn’t want to assume my opponent knew how important the vizier was.
so i blocked the 4/4 aerial guide with angel of the god-pharaoh to trade them, threw aven of enduring hope under the 5/6 thresher lizard to stop the biggest damage, and blocked the minotaur sureshot with my defiant khenra (mostly to protect against any surprise scenarios using its firebreathing effect + a combat trick in hand).
so i took 9 damage, putting me at 9 left, and then as expected the manticore was eternalized back into play, sacrificing the hyenas (i think) to kill my vizier.
with no other plays, the turn passed back to me. i crossed my fingers & drew... a land. whomp whomp. i hoped i might topdeck something perfect, since i hadn’t drawn either copy of abrade, or the electrify, dagger of the worthy (granting afflict 1!), or a couple other answers that would remove the manticore and or/deal lethal damage. but, alas & alack.
my mistake, as i see it, was blocking based on what they might have in hand, might choose to kill with the manticore, and what i might draw. if i’d chosen not to block with my defiant khenra, i would have taken 11 damage total, and then at worst the manticore would sacrifice the 5/6 thresher lizard, and send that damage at my face to put me at 2. (and if there were indeed 8 lands in play after i took the above pic, then i’d be at 1, assuming the minotaur got pumped once during combat).
with one more surviving attacker on my end, pushing in the last point of damage would have been possible regardless of my draw, and would have been the best choice i could make based on what i actually knew for sure.
lesson learned! and at the end of the way it was a super close finish and a very dramatic ending that i didn’t really feel bad about at all.
as your reward for reading all this, please enjoy this papercraft “cat” (if we’re being verrry generous) i made out of a punchcard token & used as a good luck charm:
you heard it here first: sometime in the future, i think foldable origami tokens will be a real thing. i mean it! last but not least, here’s my full deck:
r/w exert aggro
1x Glory-Bound Initiate 1x Nef-Crop Entangler 1x Defiant Khenra 1x Solitary Camel 1x Rhet-Crop Spearmaster 1x Disposal Mummy 1x Dauntless Aven 1x Thorned Moloch 1x Thresher Lizard 1x Vizier of the True 1x Frontline Devastator 1x Angel of Condemnation 1x Aven of Enduring Hope 1x Trueheart Twins 1x Angel of the God-Pharaoh 1x Granitic Titan 1x Mighty Leap 1x Dagger of the Worthy 2x Abrade 1x Blur of Blades 1x Electrify 1x Onward 2x Desert of the Fervent 7x Mountain 8x Plains

In order to unlock Waluigi as a playable character, you must have all 150 stars. As Mario, use the cannon to get to the roof and hit the power block. Get back in the cannon and fly over to the right side of the castle. There is and invisible 2-D box hovering in the courtyard and you must hit it. If you need a guide there is a picture on the top screen when you are at the starting screen. After hitting it go through the puzzle and you will get the Waluigi key!
Getting To The Top Of The Castle
It is possible to get to the top of the castle BEFORE you get all 150 Stars. Get Mario and then walk out to the courtyard. Go to the very right of the map where the ramp leads down into the moat. See where the castle makes a 90 degree angle? That’s the key. Tripple jump over to it so that you are still high in the air when you hit the wall. Then wall kick your way up to the top.NOTE: This is EXTREMLEY hard to do so don’t get frusterated when it doesn’t work.
Rabbit For Luigi
Go to the area with all the ghosts and where the door is located. Jump, then grab the ledge. Climb it, then jump up again. There should be a green rabbit up there.
Easy Extra Lives
Go to whomps fortress and turn to your left using mario. Bust every crate in your way. (orange bricks) You will find a large red mushroom. Use it and crush every thing. It should give you 1ups during the eighth destruction. Have FUN! (crush things like parannah flowers, goombas, wood sticks, bullet bills, ect.
Freeze Time
Go up the stairs and go through the middle door go where the clock is. Jump to the clock and when it says 12 go in everything will freeze!
Another Secret Star
When you walk into the castle, go into the door on the far right with a number 3 on it. Go inside and you should be in a room with a jellyfish painting. Turn to your right and then jump into the hole.
Top Of The Castle
When you collect all 150 power stars the little cage outside of the castle will become and cannon and will launch you to the top of the castle and you can gain access to 3 1-ups and a red box.

The ? Switch
When you defeat Bowser #1, go to the main hall. There will be a light pointing on the round mat. Go in that light and look up. You will be taken to a secret level. Fly a little down and you should see a peice of land. Go down to it and the ? switch will be there. Step on it and all the ? blocks will become solid.Note: It will be better to do this with mario.
Princess Toadstools Secret Slide
Enter the room where all the characters and their doors are and there are 2 stainglass windows. Jump into the one on the right and run down the slide. At the end of the slide their is a box. Break it open and there is a star inside.

Go in the door youwill see 2 Boos one will be plain so knock it outfirst or it will interfere with taking the hat, after you knock out the plain boo knock out theone with the hat take the hat and become Luigi! But if you hold the jump button he will startswinging his legs but that won’t help you jump. The sounds are different from the real Luigi, butwho cares?
Make Toad Wear Your Cap
To do this, lose your cap in any level where you can lose it, then leave the level without the cap. After that get any star and then go back to the main hall. Toad will be wearing your cap. He will say that he found it. This is an easier way of getting your hat back.
Use Red Blocks
Once you have 10 stars, go to the main room of the castle and you will see sunlight coming down from the ceiling. Stand where the sunlight is and look straight up. You will go into the Big Switch level where you’ll have to collect 8 red coins by using Mario’s wing cap. Remember to hit the big red switch, that way you can use the red blocks now. To do this, you must play as Mario.
Unlock Wario
To unlock Wario, you must play as Luigi. Go to the mirror room and you will see Power Flowers. Use them to make him invisible then go through the mirror. In the reflection, you will see Wario’s Painting, then go in it. On the touch screen, go to where the red X is. Where the X is go in the hole and fight Chief Chilly. He is the strongest Ice Bully. Push him in the frozen water three times to kill him and to get the key to Wario’s room.
Star Bonus
Obtain all 150 stars and go outside the castle. Climb inside the cannon opening that is now located where the grating was near the Fish Pond. Aim to land onto the roof, to get three lives and a red block for flying Mario.
The
It’s best for you to practice this in the bridge to the door of the castle. First, run and the, press R+B REALLY QUICK.
Easy Way To Get All Glowing Rabbits
If you’re trying to get all the glowing rabbits, go outside (as Yoshi) and you will see three rabbits. One of the rabbits is glowing. Catch it then go back in and come back out. You will see another glowing rabbit! Keep doing this and you have all the glowing rabbits and another star!
Heart Attack Thorugh The Wall
This cheat will almost work every time. First go to the entrance of the king bomomb’s mountain. Then go past the two big bombs and to the cannon near the first goomba you see going up the mountian. Just like the heaven cheat aim at the bottom of the island except aimin the point top right on the bottom. After that shoot and it should look like that character is having a hart attack or like a horse with no movement galloping and then go through the wall.
Speedy Takeoff
To have a speedy takeoff hold Y for about 5 seconds and go forward.
Easy Castle Star
NEED LUIGI! Go into the mirror room and get a power flower once you turn invisible go through the mirror and go through the door you came in by. There will be a white room with a star in the middle.
How To Get Wario
YOU NEED LUIGI TO GET WARIO! 1. Go through the first door you see on the second floor 2. Go up the stairs and into the door with red carpeting 3. Next you get the power flower and got through the mirror and jump into the picture with wario 4. Beat the boss and you get wario =].

When going to Tiny Island, the painting is smaller and it takes a few steps to get to it and going to Huge Island the painting seems so far away and so big and takes more steps to the painting.
