ARC Review: Worth It All (The McKinney Brothers #3) by Claudia Connor
My Review
Worth It All is my first book by Claudia Connor, though third book in The McKinney Brothers series, and I loved it! It was a sweet, sexy, heart melting second chance at love story with great characters that were giving me the happy sighs all throughout the story.
I really liked both Jake/JT and Paige from the start. Jake is sweet, extremely intelligent, determined and humble. He is the mad scientific genius behind the business he started with his two friends, Simon and Lynn, looking for ways to constantly improve prosthetics as well as make them affordable and available to those who need them, but keeps his achievements on the down low. And while he loves being help others and does like the way his life as been for the last few years, he’s kept far away from any committed relationships due to the guilt he still carries from his past.
Paige is one amazing woman. She hasn’t had an easy life and being a single mother hasn’t made it any easier, but she is a fighter. She is determined to give her daughter everything she never had. With that goal though, comes long hours of work and school and being a mother to an adorably precocious and inquisitive five year old, but she deals because Casey is worth it. What I loved about her was how, even when exhausted, she still carried a positive and genuine attitude. She was kind, compassionate and grateful to those who pitched in to help her. But though she loves her daughter and wouldn’t give her up for anything, she’s put herself firmly in a no dating zone because of it.
I loved how Jake and Paige’s relationship started all thanks to Casey. True, they had been in each other’s presence before, but if it hadn’t been for Casey they would have continued to simply be polite strangers. But thankfully she was the brave one of the three of them and because of her Jake and Paige were able to get to know each other and it really was a great journey to watch as they both started to realize that while they were definitely physically and sexually attracted to each other, they also genuinely liked each other and wanted to spend more time together. They come up against a few bumps in the road, mostly the ones that they have created themselves, but the way it all works out in the end was perfect.
This was my first book by Claudia Connor and I was hooked from the first page. The writing was engaging and the entire story flowed well from start to finish. The dual 3rd person POV was spot on and I enjoyed seeing the world through both Jake’s and Paige’s minds and being a fly on the wall as they worked through their issues. The secondary cast of characters were a true delight. I fell in love with Simon right away and Jenny was a true firecracker anytime she was on the page, but the true star of this book was Casey. She was such cutie that I wanted to hang out with her and eat her veggies. The way the author presented the issues that amputees face was done with a lot of respect and empathy and also did a great job to show what people can accomplish when they put their minds to it. And though this is the third book in the series, I never felt as if I was missing out on anything, but will definitely be going back to read the first two books as well as keeping an eye out for more books by the author.
