Ci sono voluti 10 anni di lavorazione per De Niro e Scorsese prima di realizzarti così bene. The Irishman: una delle opere più fortemente cinematografiche degli ultimi tempi!

Rappresenti una pietra miliare del bel cinema, quello citazionista, completo, ricco, emozionante, ma anche artistico, difficile, non narrativo in senso stresso e lungo – lunghissimo. A tratti pesante e pedante. Eppure Joe Pesci, De Niro, Al Pacino, sono uno spettacolo per gli occhi! 

Sei costato ben 160 milioni di dollari per ringiovanire digitalmente i tre attori quasi ottantenni, avresti risparmiato ingaggiando pischelli più giovani. 

«A Scorsese non interessano i fatti, non gli sono mai interessati, ma i sentimenti» citando la critica americana. 

Ti ha basato sulle reminiscenze di un sicario della mafia, Frank Sheeran, americano di origine irlandese, la cui vita è vissuta sin dalla sua giovane età on the road come camionista sino all'ospizio in cui si trova da anziano. Una storia vasta, turbolenta e triste, che affronta un ampio arco di storia in 3 ore e 29 minuti, dal 1950 ai primi anni 2000, in un complesso intreccio di vita e morte durante un’era vista con gli occhi di chi l'ha vissuta, in modo dettagliato, meticoloso e piena di riferimenti alla cronaca reale accaduta. Carrellate sinuose e un montaggio fluido in ambienti e costumi che evocano un’America e un regno cinematografico ormai svanito. 

« Desideravo fare questo film insieme ai miei amici » ha detto Scorsese che difatti incentra il tramonto di un’epoca e di un modo di fare cinema che ha ancora bisogno di quei volti per legittimarsi. Scorsese ci invita al suo personale e malinconico ballo in maschera con la storia del cinema per quello che potrebbe addirittura essere il suo inchino finale.

Por acá les dejo un extracto: “The Irishman no es solo una de las mejores películas de Martin Scorsese (lo que es decir mucho), sino también un homenaje a todas las crime movies en las que su director se ha especializado (aportando obras maestras a este género). Su realización es impecable desde todo punto de vista (estético y narrativo), las actuaciones de todo su reparto son excelsas y el resultado habla por sí mismo. A pesar de sus detractores por su extensa duración, Scorsese nos demuestra que es uno de los pocos realizadores capaz de sostener un largometraje con una narración clásica en pleno 2019 y salir bien parado. Lejos de ser una pieza más en su filmografía, The Irishman es un monumento a una forma de hacer cine que cada día es más escasa. Su tercer acto es casi una confesión de su autor acerca de la “modernidad” y el séptimo arte. Las viejas formas parecen morirse y estar condenadas al olvido. No es casual que Scorsese apueste por estrenar su opus magnum en Netflix (una plataforma que se ha transformado en uno de los bastiones de la modernidad), es casi una ironía y un statement sobre el post-modernismo: mi película clásica ya no tiene cabida en salas comerciales por su extensa duración, la lanzaré en una plataforma para millenials que consumen capítulos de series de corta duración como si fuesen caramelos. El resultado es tan cinematográfico y agridulce como el final de The Irishman, una reflexión sobre la postura de un anciano frente a los nuevos tiempos. Here are a couple of my shots of legendary movie actor Robert De Niro at the “A Legacy of Changing Lives” presented by The Fulfillment Fund and the other event was at the 92nd Oscars Nominees Luncheon. Both photos were taken at the Ray Dolby Ballroom. I think he likes that place. As a photographer you have to be serious about your work because Bob moves fast on the red carpet and you got to be ready. He’s chatting the whole time, making jokes and he’s moving. After he left the Fulfillment Fund red carpet that night I rushed over to get a selfie with him and he was the best about it. We shared a laugh and then he headed out to hang with Marty for the award presentation. He’s very much a people’s guy. I love his political analysis of the current administration. I really appreciate those inspiring statements. Today is Bob’s birthday. He’s turning 77!
