An Indian Adventure North and South

The Argosy has been organizing specialized events in the style of a luxurious moving house party for over 30 years. These one-of-a-kind trips are led by Antony Underwood, who acts as your British ambassador for an adventure of a lifetime. Organizing unique experiences along each step of a journey is an Argosy hallmark: private tours of places that are not open to the public, intellectually stimulating lectures by individuals who are not regularly made available, and insight into places that Antony knows as intimately as his hometown in Britain.
The Argosy has planned a wonderful and exotic trip in November to India, where Antony has been conducting tours for more than 25 years. Being a vast continent that is as diverse in the North as it is in the South, the trip is designed so that participants will get the best of both regions. Beginning on November 8th guests will explore the green and lush surroundings of Southern India, taking in the waterways of Cochin and Kerala.
Guests will then move to the desert lands of the North, including the rich principalities of Rajasthan, stopping in Delhi where you will have an opportunity to visit the Presidential Palace, formerly the Viceregal Lodge. Here, guests will tour the extravagant palace interiors, be immersed in the wonders of Indian history, and enjoy the lush surrounding gardens. Few homes serving the world’s heads of state match the Presidential Palace in Delhi with respect to size, vastness and magnificence.

When traveling abroad, gaining an understanding of cultures foreign to one’s own enriches a journey in ways few other experiences can. A foothold into another culture can be hard to gain, but fortunately for guests on The Argosy’s trip, Antony has many personal connections in this beautiful country.
Prior to gaining its independence in 1947, India was under British rule and protection. In office from 1936 to 1944, serving as Viceroy, was Victor Alexander John Hope, 2nd Marquess of Linlithgow, the father of Antony’s mother-in-law. During his tenure, many connections were made with the subcontinent’s princely families, several of whom Argosy’s guests will have the privilege to meet and visit with while on the tour.
In addition to these private visits and other special events, Antony has organized a lecture by Thakur Durgar Singh, the current custodian of DeraMandawa. Deeply versed in the subjects of Indian history, culture, religion, and current affairs, Thakur Durgar Singh is said to have “a bank of knowledge so vast that he has a point of view on anything under the sun” (DeraMandawa.com).
Stopping in Cochin, Kerala, Delhi, Udaipur, and Jodhpur, guests can expect a five-star experience with the very best hotels, delicious exotic cuisine, superlative lecturers and guides, special private visits, social events, and so much more.
There are still a few openings on this trip of a lifetime, which will run from November 8 through November 18, 2017. For more information call 561-586-5633 or email [email protected].
