future for marin and sunita, break and ghost for lake and wolf
Future
Marin: Objectively the worst future is one where Sunita, and any and all people she cares about have been killed by the forces of Hell. And then she herself dragged back there and made a mockery of. Marin has been working literally her entire life as to prevent that from happening because to her it is entirely possible!
Marin even has issues verbally telling Sunita she loves her because of that (It takes this woman I think 7 years to say it out loud). And yes! It did and does cause strain on her relationships! She puts that distance between her and others because if anyone in Hell can't tell she genuinely cares about anyone, then they won't be a target! Clearly this is a reasonable solution!
But yeah this one is objectively the worst because she can't even get out to retaliate for revenge or anything. She's just stuck being the mocked runt she was back in hell with everything ever taken away from her.
Sunita: Her absolute worst has been mostly circumvented at this point, so as of right now she's not under the belief that it's possible anymore. But the worst future for her was when she was in the Brigade. IT WAS A BAD TIME! But her staying in there with the Brigade leader, and her old squadron, unable to leave and forced into a role that she did not fit would be incredibly bad!
With her current trajectory, does still involve her trying to mold herself into a person who she doesn't want to be. Of stretching herself in all directions until she breaks in a way she can't put herself back together. She's trying to avoid this in her at least! She's got an idea of who she doesn't want to be, and has actively worked on avoiding that for a long time. But in doing that she often works herself ragged in trying to do good and help others, even when detrimental to herself.
Break
Lake: Failure to save someone important to her. She's the best cleric that the tribe has ever seen and that leads to her harboring a lot of responsibility and weight on her shoulders that sits very heavy on her. She has lost people to illness and injury, it's par for the course with the rampant violence angels can inflict. And each time it hurts. But it's different when it's one of your people you care about deeply.
And she withdraws into herself and tries to isolate by throwing herself into trying to figure out where she went wrong, and full on sobbing. Like collapsing onto her knees about to throw up kind of sobbing. And yes! people have seen her like at her absolute lowest! Wolf and Bristle both have!
Wolf: Rejection from The Ancients and perceived loss of control of her leadership. Wolf is not often an angry woman, she is stern, and stalwart and stoic. But with her connection to The Ancients, her complex that she's got the right to be a leader is only Amplified. So for The Ancients to impress upon her that they are displeased or are rejecting her decisions or her grasp of control on the tribe being lost would be very Not Good for her!
Her normally Long Fuse shortens and is more readily to use violence to put people in their place. Rather than intimidation and words that she normally uses. She lashes out to try and regain the control that she has, because if she makes everyone cower then she still stands above them. Lake and Bristle have both seen this up close (that's what that one comic was about)
Ghost
Lake: The Ancients is what haunts her the most. They have their eyes on her, they put stock into her and her abilities and powers. By all means some of her power comes from them. But they are a vague entity at best and and disorienting and contradicting at worst. They hardly ever speak in directs and they almost always have some interpretation to how they speak. And Lake with being a cleric, well. She has high expectations put on her. And she does her best to live up to them.
Wolf: I'm gonna be honest. She's haunted by Lake. Lake is very content with how their relationship is. But Wolf is not. And she feels that there has to be something she can do to make Lake see her as something More. Because what they have now is not enough, they are entwined as two chosen by The Ancients. Of important figures in the tribe. Wolf has to be something more to Lake. And while to Lake, she DOES see Wolf as one of the most important people to her. It's not in a way that Wolf is satisfied with. And honestly how Wolf lives with that feeling and what she does about it is like the Major Thing in their story in the current iteration.
#Thank you Hershel!#also that last bit with Wolf is part of the reason that Wolf and Lake have gripped onto my brain#The whole Wolf/Lake dynamic is SOOOOOO#also excited for some End of Aldreach stuff because a bit of that gets touched on
