#The same thing happened when I was severely underweight with gastroparesis

It's so embarrassing that what finally made me marginally more normal about getting fat over-against all the usual internalized bullshit was a bunch of Downton Abbey fans on Reddit being like "I'm so glad Hugh Bonneville gained weight again". Like whatever works but oh my Gd
#I don't really mind being fat per se it's just the lack of control#Because I have gained and lost CRAZY amounts of weight for medical reasons#And my body doesn't feel like me#If that makes sense#It always changes so much so fast it doesn't feel like it belongs to me#The same thing happened when I was severely underweight with gastroparesis

btw I say this all the time but I saw yet another dumb shit effortpost about "just cut your calories and you'll get thin it's very simple" from a person who is usually intelligent and well informed so I'm going to say it again: if calories in/calories out was real I would be dead already.
we could do the math sometime for fun but I will maintain or gain weight on amounts of food that other people can't survive on. that's normal. the human metabolism varies dramatically based on a lot of variables starting with genetics. it doesn't matter how much combustion energy a single calorie unit of food contains if you aren't digesting it, digesting it poorly, or digesting it more completely than everyone else does. your metabolic reaction to the same amount of calories will differ drastically from the next person's.
this is also true of whether or not you actually metabolize the vitamins and minerals from food that contains adequate amounts of nutrition. humans are not unique in this, every species has individual variation in ability to metabolize food. in horse care the horses that get fat on the same quantity of feed that the other horses simply maintain weight on are called "easy keepers". horse feed is strictly controlled by the owners, so this effect is easy to observe. the fat horses aren't sneaking ice cream at night and lying about it. their bodies process food more efficiently and store more fat instead of wasting it by processing it out the digestive tract.
its really not that hard to understand. two identical cars can have better or worse gas mileage because of damage, or fine tuning, to the engine. same thing is going on when someone who is "naturally thin" eats a medium pizza and only captures and utilizes 40% the normal amount of available calories.
I recently doubled my daily exercise by kicking out my ex and taking over all the dog walking myself. I have not lost ANY weight, even though in addition to increasing exercise I have been eating less because that just tends to happen when you live alone and don't give a shit about food. in fact I took a shower yesterday and if anything am looking significantly fatter than normal.
don't listen to anything but the MOST recent research about human dieting and food and calories. almost everything that has been spoken as gospel for the past forty years is total bullshit
edit: before anyone accused me of just coping because I'm fat, I'm officially medically underweight and have been almost my whole life, 99th percentile gang baby. if I didn't have severe gastroparesis I would be fat though, just like my parents, who also eat a lot less than everyone else and more than survive on it. it's genetic and microbiotic and physiological.
I ate a normal amount of food for a few days and my stomach is so painfully bloated and I am so afflicted with malaise i would rather starve to death than ever deal with any of those shit ever again
