OH YEAH. I PROBABLY DON’T HAVE CELIAC MY DOCTORS OFFICE WAS JUST INCREDIBLY MISLEADING
#Rambling#i saw a GI this Tuesday and was talking to him about my symptoms and referenced the positive celiac test a couple times and he was like#‘’Do you happen to have a copy of your lab results with you?’’ And I was like ‘’they told me they would send it to your office’’#And he was like ‘’ yeah I have these results but they say your celiac test was negative’’ and I was like Huh#Turns out. They ran three celiac tests on my blood sample#The two more reliable tests were negative#The most unreliable test (with a 20% false positive rate) was positive#I’m doing another test to rule out celiac altogether. I feel better since I went gluten free so I might be gluten intolerant?#I think that’s better than celiac.

Elon Musk Makes a Hard Swerve on Bitcoin Tesla’s sharp turn on Bitcoin Elon Musk has been a big cryptocurrency booster of late, even directing Tesla to buy $1.5 billion in Bitcoin for its corporate treasury earlier this year. Yesterday, he abruptly reversed course, tweeting that Tesla would stop accepting Bitcoin as payment for cars, citing environmental reasons. “We are concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions, especially coal, which has the worst emissions of any fuel,” he said. Bitcoin’s price promptly plunged by more than 10 percent. Tesla said it would begin accepting the cryptocurrency a few months ago, when it also revealed a billion-dollar Bitcoin buy, pushing the price up by more than 10 percent. Bitcoin seems remarkably sensitive to the billionaire’s tweets, and “if one person can dramatically alter spending power, the ‘stable store of value’ criteria of a currency is not met,” Paul Donovan of UBS wrote in a note to clients today. Mining Bitcoin is energy-intensive, and the more it is worth, the more power it takes a network of computers to create the tokens, by design. Bitcoin’s climate problem is hardly a secret. So what gives? Why now? Tesla only started accepting Bitcoin for car purchases in the U.S. in March. Just over two weeks ago, Zach Kirkhorn, Tesla’s C.F.O., told investors that “it is our intent to hold what we have long term and continue to accumulate Bitcoin from transactions from our customers as they purchase vehicles.” He described the rationale for buying and accepting Bitcoin as, simply, “Elon and I were looking for a place to store cash that wasn’t being immediately used, trying to get some level of return.” What changed about Tesla’s understanding of energy issues? An entry-level Tesla is worth about 1 Bitcoin, so the company’s $1.5 billion Bitcoin purchase in February far surpasses the amount of crypto it would collect from car sales for a very long time. That raises questions about the vetting and approval process for that investment, which may worry E.S.G. investors, who otherwise look favorably at an electric vehicle company. Did Musk not know about Bitcoin’s environmental impact until now? Who advised him on it? Did climate factor into the board’s approval process? How does Musk justify the environmental impact of his other companies? SpaceX’s rockets are massive carbon emitters. The Boring Company, his tunnel drilling endeavor, has also faced criticism about its environmental impact. Did Tesla or Musk sell Bitcoin before the announcement? Musk’s statement said that “Tesla will not be selling any Bitcoin and we intend to use it for transactions as soon as mining transitions to more sustainable energy.” We’ll see whether it made any recent trades when it reports second-quarter results in July. Given the impact Musk’s tweet had on Bitcoin’s price, any action just before or after will be scrutinized. Did regulation play a role in the reversal? The return policy for cars bought with Bitcoin worked in Tesla’s favor, stipulating that buyers get back Bitcoin if it’s worth less than the equivalent dollar value at purchase but get back dollars if Bitcoin is worth more. That raises many issues, including accounting risks and worries about warranties and other consumer protection laws. Musk can be an unreliable narrator. On Tuesday, he asked his followers on Twitter if Tesla should accept Dogecoin, the jokey cryptocurrency. (Most said yes.) On Sunday, he announced that SpaceX had taken Dogecoin as payment for shuttling a satellite to the moon. And as host of “Saturday Night Live,” he said that cryptocurrency was both “the future of currency” and “a hustle.” In other crypto news, Vitalik Buterin, the creator of Ethereum, donated $1.5 billion in cryptocurrency to several charities yesterday, including around $1 billion in so-called meme coins to a Covid relief fund in India. HERE’S WHAT’S HAPPENING The Colonial Pipeline resumes operations. The pipeline, which supplies the East Coast with nearly half its transportation fuel, took the first step in restarting after a ransomware attack as panicked consumers rushed to buy gasoline. Normal conditions won’t return for several days. The C.D.C. approves the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for 12- to 15-year-olds. The move is meant to accelerate school reopenings. Meanwhile, Ohio is creating a lottery with $1 million prizes to encourage residents to get vaccinated, and seven New York Yankees — all fully vaccinated — have been quarantined after testing positive. Opposition to pandemic unemployment benefits grows. At least 11 Republican-led states plan to end the $300 weekly checks as early as June, amid debate over whether they are contributing to labor shortages. Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat of West Virginia, said he won’t vote to extend them when their authorization expires in September. Bill Ackman bets big on Domino’s Pizza. The billionaire hedge fund investor said he had amassed a 6 percent stake in the chain, praising its performance during the pandemic and its delivery capabilities. He also hinted that his $5 billion SPAC was working on a complex deal for a well-known company. Coinbase faces its first test as a publicly traded company. The cryptocurrency exchange will report its first earnings since going public after markets close today. Analysts expect a strong set of numbers, though they’re closely watching for the impact of increased competition. Markets fear inflation U.S. stock futures and global indexes are down this morning, following yesterday’s market drop — the third in a row — after consumer price data stoked fears of rising inflation that would test the Fed’s commitment to keeping interest rates low. All that also has the Biden administration increasingly concerned about the fate of its ambitious (and expensive) economic proposals. The S&P 500 dropped 2 percent, its worst day since February, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 2.7 percent. (The flagship fund of Ark Invest, which bet heavily on high-growth tech darlings, has fallen to a six-month low.) The yield on the 10-year Treasury note jumped to around 1.7 percent, from 1.5 percent a week ago. A top Fed official suggested the central bank won’t act yet. “This is just one data point,” said Richard Clarida, the central bank’s Trump-appointed vice chair, though he conceded that yesterday’s numbers were a “surprise.” Clarida cited last week’s disappointing job gains data as a reason for the Fed to stay its course on interest rates. But some economists remain skeptical: “There is a lot of concern that the Fed is behind the curve on this,” Alan Detmeister of UBS told The Times. The White House is privately anxious about its expansive economic policies, The Washington Post reports. Officials from the National Economic Council and the Treasury Department met over the weekend to discuss strategy. And an effort yesterday to woo Republican support for President Biden’s $2.3 trillion infrastructure proposal appeared to gain no converts. Publicly, administration officials said they were committed to their agenda: “If anything, what we’re seeing are the positive impacts of the rescue plan as they work their way through the recovery,” the economic adviser Jared Bernstein said. “Those who are least engaged are very comfortable working from home.” — Sandeep Mathrani, WeWork’s C.E.O., at a Wall Street Journal event. “People are happier when they come to work,” the chief of the office rental company added. Sewing up the carried interest loophole Yesterday, Democratic senators introduced the Carried Interest Fairness Act, proposing to end a tax break that benefits real estate, private equity and venture capital investors above all. Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, the centrist Democrat who doesn’t always toe the party line, is among those proposing to shut the long-debated, little-understood loophole, which is one sign that it may become law after previous false starts. Investment managers often pay less tax on earnings than other workers. Money from investment returns (or “carry”) is taxed at the capital gain rate, about 20 percent. Regular income is taxed at more than double this rate, when state and local levies are taken into account. Proponents of the practice, who hold a lot of political sway via their connections and donations, say that the funds merely represent a return on investment, not income. Closing the gap would raise $15 billion over 10 years, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation. “For far too long, hedge fund managers working on Wall Street have not paid their fair share,” Manchin said in a statement. Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to end the break, but the tax law that emerged from Congress did not address it. The loophole’s persistence surprised even Larry Kudlow, the conservative economist who crafted Trump’s tax plan. “I don’t know how that thing survived,” he said at the time. “I’m sure the lobbying was intense.” President Biden has also promised a fix. He called on Congress to eliminate the loophole, saying it would be “an important structural change that is necessary to ensure” fairness. The Democrats have narrow majorities in both chambers, but the loophole has proved hard to close. How Deadly is the New Virus? My Analysis of Unbiased Numbers
Vaccines and masks have become controversial topics in the social media. There is debate over the efficacy of vaccines and motives behind pushing them (political and financial). The “real” mortality caused by the new pathogen (virus, exosome, whatever you call it) has also become hotly debated and controversial. The controversy is rooted in the assignment of “cause of death” by agencies in charge of tracking death such as hospitals, coroner’s office or nursing homes. A recently deceased person could have already been suffering from several comorbidity factors - illnesses such as diabetes, heart or pulmonary (lung) disease or brain blood clots which may or may not have been triggered or exacerbated by a new pathogen (COVID-19 or other causes). So singling out the Coronavirus as the main cause of death is considered questionable by some observers, particularly because hospital billings may benefit from the Coronavirus classification being the “cause of death.”
Another complicating factor is the inaccuracy of the tests used now to diagnose the virus in patients (symptomatic or asymptomatic) admitted to hospitals. In some countries, courts are now questioning the accuracy of PCR test kits used by governments in setting public virus containment policies. Just last week, in a 34-page ruling, Judges in Lisbon Appeal Court in Portugal call RT-PCR tests unreliable: "The probability of a false positive is 97% or higher."
Despite all the confusion, one of the most accurately measured bio statistics in the world is the Total Death numbers or the so-called all-cause mortality. It is unbiased because it includes ALL causes of death. So one can accurately estimate the mortality of a new pathogen (pandemic) by reliably calculating “Excess” death numbers (The all-cause total numbers of deaths reported in specific time periods minus the “expected” all-cause numbers in the same time periods based on averages of previous years).
For example, one analysis of “excess” mortality in the U.S. shows between March 1 and August 1, 2020, 1 336 561 deaths occurred in the US, a 20% increase over expected deaths using averages of previous years. The 10 states with the highest per capita rate of excess deaths were New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Arizona, Mississippi, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Michigan. The increase in absolute deaths in these states relative to expected values ranged from 22% in Rhode Island and Michigan to 65% in New York.
A CDC report which analyzed excess deaths in the U.S. during January 26–October 3, 2020 demonstrated that actually one third of excess deaths during the analysis period were not accounted for in the official COVID-19 death reports.
Separately, government officials in Iran (suffering from a third wave of hospitalizations) have confirmed that in recent weeks excess death rates have been around 50% so one out of 3 deaths are now caused by the Coronavirus.
Another report focused on Europe, demonstrates excess death rates to be in the 10-30% range for different countries. For the U.K. for example, the excess seems to be around 19%.

Portable Breath Test
A portable or preliminary breath test device, commonly referred to as a PBT, is a handheld machine that motorists are often asked to blow into on the side of the road. It is a screening device that is fraught with many pitfalls. Your Utah DUI attorney should know the dangers these devices pose when prosecutors use them to convince the Court that you were impaired. Handheld machines to do not have safeguards or maintenance procedures like desktop models. They are prone to a high error rate. These machines typically function by measuring a chemical reaction of alcohol in a fuel cell. These fuel cell alcohol detectors are highly susceptible to a variety of errors that can cause them to produce incorrect BAC results. Things such as mouth alcohol, contamination, interfering substances, the temperature of the machine, the outside air temperature, when you last consumed alcohol, medical conditions such as acid reflux, lack of observation period, and many other factors will affect the validity of the PBT test results. Generally, the police are not allowed to testify that a PBT gave a specific alcohol reading. Instead, they are typically allowed to testify that the PBT results indicated the presence of alcohol. Utah courts have ruled that PBT devices are scientifically unreliable beyond detecting the presence of alcohol. PBT results are never admissible at trial. You are not required under Utah DUI law to blow into the PBT device when you are being investigated for a Utah DUI. Your refusal will not result in the suspension of your driver’s license. The PBT is essentially another form of field sobriety testing. It can only be used to establish probable cause for your arrest.
youtube
Difference Between A Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) and The Evidential Breathalyzer Test
Both testing devices are subject to a high rate of error. An “evidential” breath test device is typically a larger desktop machine that is kept at the police station. The primary difference between a portable, handheld device and a desktop evidential system comes down to maintenance, trustworthiness, reliability, and software. the PBT essentially has none of the safeguards in place like the evidential breath test device. While the PBT device is fuel cell driven (very slow), the newer desktop devices give readings while the subject is blowing into the device. One of the key differences is that desktop machines are set up to prevent mouth alcohol and other contaminants from getting into your system; no such protection is built into PBT devices.
How Long Does Alcohol Stay in Your System?
Knowing how long alcohol (ethanol) remains in your system is important for avoiding dangerous interactions with medications as well as impairments in your physical and mental performance. While alcohol is not considered a controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), it is illegal to sell or serve to anyone under the age of 21 in the Utah. The metabolism of alcohol has been studied in detail, but there are many individual factors that determine how long it can be detected in your body and how long it will take to be eliminated. Depending on the type of test used as well as your age, body mass, genetics, sex, and overall health, alcohol can remain detectable in your system from 10 hours to 90 days. When misused, alcohol can do as much (or even more) overall harm as many illegal drugs. People who misuse alcohol also risk developing physical and psychological dependence and alcohol use disorder.
youtube
How Long Does It Take to Feel Effects?
You can start to feel the effects of alcohol in a matter of minutes. When ingested, alcohol is rapidly absorbed from the stomach and small intestine into your bloodstream before it travels to the nervous system (brain and spinal cord). As a central nervous system depressant, alcohol impairs the communication of messages in your brain, altering your perceptions, emotions, movement, and senses. In small amounts, you might feel more relaxed and open or less anxious, but the more you drink, the more intoxicated you’ll begin to feel. For some, this can mean being more talkative or very friendly and others may begin to behave with anger or aggression.
Other signs of alcohol intoxication include: • Euphoria • Loss of inhibitions • Impaired walking (ataxia) • Losing coordination • Slurred speech • Slowed reaction time • Poor judgment (such as driving under the influence or engaging in unprotected sex)
youtube
How Long Does Alcohol Last?
The half-life of ethanol is about 4 to 5 hours, which means it takes that long to eliminate half of the alcohol ingested from the bloodstream. For most people, alcohol is absorbed into the system more rapidly than it is metabolized. For a person weighing 150 pounds, for example, one standard drink will increase their blood-alcohol concentration by about 0.02%,1 but the body can only remove about 0.016% per hour on average. Therefore, even if you consume only one drink per hour, your blood alcohol concentration (BAC) will continue to increase. If you drink more than one per hour, it rises much more rapidly. The body metabolizes alcohol by oxidizing the ethanol to acetaldehyde. The acetaldehyde is broken down into acetic acid and then to carbon dioxide and water. Most of the alcohol you consume is metabolized in the liver, but about 5% of the alcohol you drink is excreted by the body through sweat, breath, urine, feces, and saliva. Determining exactly how long alcohol is detectable in the body depends on many variables, including which kind of drug test is being used. Alcohol can be detected for a shorter time with some tests but can be visible for up to three months in others.
The following is an estimated range of times, or detection windows, during which alcohol can be detected by various testing methods. • Breath: Alcohol can be detected in your breath via a breathalyzer test for up to 24 hours. • Urine: Alcohol can be detected in urine for three to five days via ethyl glucuronide (EtG) metabolite or 10 to 12 hours via the traditional method. • Blood: Alcohol can show up in a blood test for up to 12 hours. • Saliva: A saliva test can be positive for alcohol from 24 to 48 hours. • Hair: Like many other drugs, alcohol can be detected with a hair follicle drug test for up to 90 days.
The EtG test can produce a positive test from the mere exposure to alcohol that’s present in many daily household products such as cooking extract, mouth wash, cleaning products, cosmetics, and hair dye. As such, it’s a less reliable test for alcohol consumption. If you take a breath or saliva test shortly after using alcohol-containing mouthwash or cough medicine, it may detect the residue of the alcohol in your mouth and create a false positive as well.
Factors That Affect Detection Time
The timetable for detecting alcohol in the body is also dependent upon variables such as metabolism, body mass, age, hydration level, physical activity, health conditions, and other factors, making it almost impossible to determine an exact time alcohol will show up on a drug test. Some of those factors include the following.
Just as family history plays a role in the development of an alcohol use disorder, how quickly the body processes and excretes alcohol also has a genetic link.
Since women tend to have proportionally more body fat and less body water than men, alcohol tends to linger in their systems longer than men.
Again, the more fat you have, the longer the alcohol will stay in your body.
Studies have found that people of East Asian descent are more likely to have trouble metabolizing alcohol since they don’t produce enough of a key enzyme that helps metabolize alcohol in the liver. Instead, a toxic byproduct of alcohol builds up in the blood and liver, dilates blood vessels, and causes flushing (redness and heat) in the face and neck as well as headaches, dizziness, palpitations, and nausea. This reaction is known colloquially as “Asian flush” or “Asian glow.”
As you get older, your liver works more slowly, so it takes longer to excrete alcohol. Many aging adults also take medication that can affect liver function, slowing the process further.
Roughly 20% of the ethanol in liquor is absorbed into the blood from the stomach and the rest from the small intestine. The longer alcohol stays in the stomach, the longer it takes to be absorbed and the slower the rate of intoxication. Eating before drinking, and continuing to snack while you consume alcohol, will slow the absorption and reduce its impact, but prolong the detection period.
youtube
Certain medications can interfere with how alcohol is absorbed in the body and some may even enhance the effects and increase intoxication. Always be honest with your healthcare provider about how much alcohol you consume. Medications known to interact with alcohol include: • Anti-anxiety medications • Antidepressants • Antibiotics • Allergy medications • Diabetes medications
How frequently and how fast you drink, as well as the alcohol content in your beverage, can all influence how long ethanol stays in your system. For example, if you engage in binge drinking five or more drinks for men or four for women during a single drinking session it can take many hours for the alcohol to completely clear from your system. It is possible for your system to still have enough alcohol in it the next morning that you could fail a urine or blood test for driving under the influence. You would definitely have a problem trying to pass a test that is designed to detect the presence of any alcohol.
How to Get Alcohol Out of Your System
Regardless of how fast your body absorbs alcohol, it eliminates it at the average rate of 0.016 BAC per hour. Nothing you do will speed up the elimination process, including drinking coffee, drinking water, taking a shower, or even vomiting. If you know that you are going to have to take a breath, blood, or urine test for the presence of alcohol in your system, the only way you can lower your blood alcohol content results is to delay taking the test as long as possible after your last drink, because only time will reduce your BAC.
Symptoms of Overdose Consuming large amounts of alcohol in a short period of time can result in alcohol poisoning, which is a medical emergency. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, averages of six people per day die of acute alcohol poisoning. Drinking too much alcohol, or combining alcohol with other drugs or medication, can cause the areas of your brain that support your breathing, heart rate, and other basic life-supporting functions to begin to shut down. • Confusion • Extreme sleepiness or loss of consciousness • Seizures • Slow heart rate • No gag reflex, which prevents choking when vomiting • Clammy pale, or blue-tinged skin • Low body temperature (hypothermia) • Breathing slowly or irregularly (less than eight times a minute or 10 seconds or more between any two breaths) • Vomiting while unconscious (doesn’t wake up during or after vomiting) Are Breathalyzer Tests Always Accurate? When an officer suspects a driver is intoxicated, they need probable cause to believe they were driving under the influence (DUI) in order to make an arrest. A common way officers try to obtain probable cause is by conducting a breath test using a device known as a Breathalyzer. If the Breathalyzer indicates a driver has blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.08 percent or higher, the officer can automatically use that reading as probable cause for an arrest. In addition, the prosecutor can use the Breathalyzer results to prove that a driver was intoxicated, as 0.08 is the legal limit for DUI per se. Considering the importance of the Breathalyzer results in many DUI cases, you would imagine that the devices should always be accurate and reliable, right? Unfortunately, that is not the case, as there are many factors that can cause an inaccurate Breathalyzer result and, in many cases, a wrongful conviction if the prosecutor uses the inaccurate reading as evidence in a criminal case. It is critical to have a DUI defense lawyer who knows how to challenge Breathalyzer results when appropriate.
Reasons for Breathalyzer Errors
Like most scientific tests, Breathalyzers have an inherent margin of error. This means that even in the ideal circumstances, the result of the breath test still might not be perfectly right. Many Breathalyzer devices have a margin of error of 0.01 percentage points. This means that if a reading is 0.08 percent on the nose, your true BAC could be anywhere between 0.07 percent and 0.09 percent. Authorities should always consider this margin of error when using evidence of a breath test reading in a DUI case. Inadequate Calibration Breathalyzer devices require regular calibration. This is usually done by a police lab technician who runs a particular solution with a certain concentration of alcohol through the device. They then tune the device to match the exact concentration of the solution. Some states require that officers calibrate the devices at certain intervals, such as every 150 uses or every 10 days. Other states do not have specific requirements. If a police department fails to properly calibrate devices or even calibrate them at all highly inaccurate readings can result. A Suspect’s Mouth Alcohol A Breathalyzer measures the alcohol vapor from your lungs, also known as mouth alcohol. In some situations, alcohol from your stomach or that is lingering in your mouth can accidentally be measured by the device. This is especially true if someone vomits or burps a short time before being tested. The mouth alcohol has not yet been introduced into the bloodstream and has not had intoxicating effects on the driver, so it can artificially increase the BAC reading. Contaminated Breath Samples For a completely accurate result, the Breathalyzer should only measure the driver’s breath sample. However, fumes or vapors in the atmosphere or even the mouth alcohol of the person who previously submitted a sample into the device may taint the sample. Police officers should always replace the mouthpiece of the Breathalyzer between tests—both for accuracy and sanitation purposes. They should also shoot something called an air blank through the tube of the device to clear out any fumes or vapors that may be lingering in the sample chamber.
Interference by Radio Frequency
Another factor that can affect the accuracy of a Breathalyzer is radio frequency interference, or RFI. A police radio can emit electromagnetic waves, which can cause malfunctions in the Breathalyzer. Some devices have RFI detectors, and will cancel tests that are in progress in the presence of interference. Again, not all Breathalyzers are so equipped, and RFI can lead to false results and wrongful convictions. Types of Breath Tests Breathalyzer tests can be broadly grouped into different categories including: • Passive Breathalyzers: Passive alcohol sensors (PAS) or passive breathalyzers may be attached to a law enforcement officer’s clipboard or flashlight. This type of test has internal fuel sensors that are designed to detect the presence of alcohol when a motorist exhales. A driver does not actively blow into a passive breathalyzer and this test is considered a preliminary test that can provide a police officer with cause to investigate the motorist more closely and perform other sobriety testing. Passive breathalyzers are not generally used as evidence in a court of law. • Active Breathalyzers: Active breathalyzers require a driver to blow into a mouthpiece to determine his or her BAC. There are two distinct types of active breathalyzer devices: preliminary breath tests (PBTs) and evidential breath test machines. Both PBTs and evidential breath tests used by law enforcement officers generally utilize different technology than personal active breathalyzer machines that individuals purchase. Breath test machines utilized by individuals generally rely on semiconductor sensors, which less reliable than fuel cell technology or infrared technology used in professional tests.

Other signs of alcohol intoxication include: • Euphoria • Loss of inhibitions • Impaired walking (ataxia) • Losing coordination • Slurred speech • Slowed reaction time • Poor judgment (such as driving under the influence or engaging in unprotected sex)

Antibody Tests Were Hailed As Way To End Lockdowns. Instead, They Cause Confusion.
Aspen was an early COVID-19 hot spot in Colorado, with a cluster of cases in March linked to tourists visiting for its world-famous skiing. Tests were in short supply, making it difficult to know how the virus was spreading.
So in April, when the Pitkin County Public Health Department announced it had obtained 1,000 COVID-19 antibody tests that it would offer residents at no charge, it seemed like an exciting opportunity to evaluate the efforts underway to stop the spread of the virus.
“This test will allow us to get the epidemiological data that we’ve been looking for,” Aspen Ambulance District director Gabe Muething said during an April 9 community meeting held online.
However, the plan soon fell apart amid questions about the reliability of the test from Aytu BioScience. Other ski towns such as Telluride, Colorado, and Jackson, Wyoming, as well as the less wealthy border community of Laredo, Texas, were also drawn to antibody testing to inform decisions about how to exit lockdown. But they, too, determined the tests weren’t living up to their promise.

The allure of antibody tests is understandable. Although they can’t find active cases of COVID-19, they can identify people who previously have been infected with the coronavirus that causes the disease, which could give health officials important epidemiological information about how widely it has spread in a community and the extent of asymptomatic cases. In theory, at least, antibodies would be present in such people whether they had a severe case, little more than a dry cough or no complaints at all.
Even more enticing: These tests were billed as a path to restart local economies by identifying people who might be immune to the virus and could therefore safely return to the public sphere.
But, in these and other communities, testing programs initially slated to test hundreds or thousands have been scaled back or put on hold.
“I don’t think these tests are ready for clinical use yet,” said University of California-San Francisco immunologist Dr. Alexander Marson, who has studied their reliability. He and his team vetted 12 different antibody tests and found all but one turned up false positives — implying that someone had antibodies when they didn’t ― with false-positive rates reaching as high as 16%. (The study is preliminary and has not been peer-reviewed yet.)
More than 100 antibody tests are currently available in the U.S., including offerings by commercial labs, academic centers and small entrepreneurial ventures. As serious questions emerged earlier this month about the accuracy of the tests and the usefulness of the results, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it will require companies to submit validation data on their products and apply foremergency-use authorizations for their products. (Previously, companies were allowed to sell their tests without review from the FDA, as long as they did their own validation and included a disclaimer.) And the American Medical Association said on May 14 that the tests should not be used to assess an individual’s immunity or when to end physical distancing.
And this week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released new guidelines warning that antibody test results can have high false positive rates and should not be used to make decisions about returning people to work, schools, dorms or other places where people congregate.
Once hailed as a solution, the current crop of tests, which have not been thoroughly vetted by any regulatory agency, now seem more likely to add chaos and uncertainty to a situation already fraught with anxiety. “To give people a false sense of security has a lot of danger right now,” said Dr. Travis Riddell, the health officer for Teton County, which includes Jackson, Wyoming.
Accuracy Questions Raised
The gold standard for confirming an active COVID-19 infection is to take a swab from the nasopharynx and test it for the presence of viral RNA. The antibody tests instead parse the blood for antibodies against the COVID-19 virus. It takes time for an infected person to produce antibodies, so these tests can’t diagnose an ongoing infection, only indicate that a person has encountered the virus.
In Aspen, county officials knew the FDA had not approved the Aytu BioScience test, which the Colorado-based company was importing from China. So they first conducted their own validation tests, said Bill Linn, spokesperson for the Pitkin County Incident Management Team. “We weren’t reassured enough by our own testing to feel like we should move ahead.”
In Laredo, officials had been told by one of the community members helping to arrange the purchase of 20,000 tests from the Chinese company Anhui DeepBlue Medical Technology that they were FDA-approved, but the city’s own validation trials revealed only about a 20% accuracy rate, said Laredo spokesperson Rafael Benavides. Before Laredo could pay for the tests, Benavides said, an arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement seized them and launched an investigation.
Neither Anhui DeepBlue Medical Technology, nor Aytu returned requests for comment.
In March, Covaxx, a company led by two part-time Telluride residents, offered to test residents of the town and the surrounding county with an antibody test it had developed. But the project was suspended indefinitely when the company’s testing facility fell behind on processing them.
The county is committed to doing a second round of testing but is evaluating how to proceed, said San Miguel County spokesperson Susan Lilly. “The question is how do you target it to be the most relevant clinically and for the public health team’s decision-making moving forward?”
Officials Back Off, Community Members Step In
On May 4, the FDA updated its antibody test policy to require that manufacturers submit validation data, but it is still allowing the tests to be sold without the normal lengthy vetting and approval process, which includes demonstrating safety and effectiveness.
In some wealthy areas, government officials had been offering free tests from startups with local investors. In Jackson, for example, a venture capitalist with an investment in Covaxx, the test used in Telluride, offered to help the city obtain 1,000 tests. But after reviewing the offer, Teton County declined over concerns about the test’s accuracy. “If a person tests positive, what does that mean? And is that useful information? We just don’t know yet,” Riddell said.
Covaxx spokesperson John Schaefer said in a statement that the test had been validated on more than 900 blood samples and is being reviewed by the FDA.
After Teton County officials decided against community antibody testing, a private nonprofit, Test Teton Now, sprung up to provide free COVID-19 antibody testing using the Covaxx test for roughly 8,000 people, about a third of the county’s residents. As of May 22, they’d raised $396,000 and tested 843 samples. The group has “done a lot” to verify the Covaxx tests, said Test Teton Now president Shaun Andrikopoulos. “I don’t want to call it validation, because we didn’t go through an independent review board, but we have sent our samples out to other labs.”
Organizers of Test Teton Now don’t share others’ concerns about the test’s utility. “We don’t encourage people to make any decisions about what they’re going to do or how they’re going to behave based on the results,” said the nonprofit’s spokesperson, Jennifer Ford.
What good is a test that can’t be used for practical purposes? “We think knowledge is power, and data is the beginning of knowledge,” Ford said. But unreliable data doesn’t give knowledge, it gives an illusion of knowledge.
So many unknowns remain, and false data may be worse than none. Even a very accurate test will produce a large number of false positives when used in a population where few people have been infected. If only 4% of people have actually been infected, a test with 95% accuracy would produce nine positive results for every 100 tests, five of which are false positives.
And that creates a danger that the tests could lead people to incorrectly think that they have antibodies that make them immune, which could have disastrous consequences if they changed their behavior as a result. Consider, for example, a person falsely told she had antibodies going to work at a nursing home, believing she couldn’t catch or spread the virus to anyone.
It’s not even known for sure that having antibodies makes someone immune. Researchers are hopeful that exposure can confer some level of immunity, but how strong that immunity might be and how long it might last remain unknown, said Harvard epidemiologist Marc Lipsitch.
So, having been burned once, Aspen has put antibody testing on hold and is instead focusing on identifying and isolating people who are sick or at risk of becoming so. “It’s actually a step back to where we started,” Linn said.
Given the remaining unknowns about immunity and COVID-19, the best methods for addressing the pandemic in communities may be the most time-tested ones, Linn said. “Put the sick people in places where they can’t get anyone else sick. It’s the bread and butter of epidemiology.”

Food and Drug Administration said it will require companies to submit validation data on their products and apply for emergency-use authorizations for their products.

Did you already have coronavirus in January or February?
With the recent news that two Californians died of COVID-19 in February, three weeks earlier than the United States’ first known death from the disease, it has become clear that the coronavirus was spreading in the United States long before it was detected by testing.
This fact might have you wondering if that weird cough or recurrent fever you had in late January or February was actually COVID-19. It’s not impossible, experts say, but it’s not necessarily likely, either. The virus was certainly circulating during that time. However, what is unknown is how prevalent it was, especially compared with the other respiratory viruses of winter.
“The initial introduction of the virus in the U.S. coincided with the peak of the flu season, so the symptoms you had, it would be difficult to untangle with flu,” said Matteo Chinazzi, an associate research scientist at Northeastern University in Boston, who is on a team that has been modeling the virus’ spread around the world.

COVID-19 timeline
The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 was first detected by testing in the United States in January. That case occurred in a 35-year-old man who was tested on Jan. 19, four days after returning from Wuhan to his home in Snohomish County, Washington.
But it wasn’t until a month later, on Feb. 26, that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed the first known case of community spread of coronavirus in the United States, in a California resident who had no known contact with a traveler from China. Just a few days later, a group of researchers studying flu test samples in Washington state discovered a sample that contained the genetic sequence for that coronavirus, which causes COVID-19. It belonged to a teenager who had contracted the virus in the community.
It is now clear that the first cases of community spread in the United States weren’t in late February, but instead were in January, when only travel-related cases were being caught and reported.
This is evident in a few different ways. First, the small genetic differences between the coronavirus in the Washington state teenager and in samples from Wuhan suggested that the virus had come over from Wuhan and had been circulating, and gradually mutating, over the course of about five weeks, infectious disease researcher Trevor Bedford of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center wrote in a blog post in early March.
Second, the newest death data also points to community spread of coronavirus in January. The first reported coronavirus death in the United States was thought to be a man in his 50s who died on Feb. 28 in King County, Washington. Autopsy results from two deaths in Kirkland, Washington, subsequently pushed the first known deaths in the U.S. back to Feb. 26.
On April 22, though, the CDC confirmed, based on autopsy results, that two people in Santa Clara county had died at home of COVID-19 on Feb. 6 and Feb. 17. Neither had a travel history and are thought to have caught the disease from community spread. Because COVID-19 typically has an incubation period of 5 to 6 days (and up to 14 days) between when people are infected and when they show symptoms, and because it usually takes several weeks after that for fatally ill patients to die, the early February deaths suggest that the individuals caught COVID-19 in mid- to late January.
Finally, modeling work based on travel patterns shows the virus arriving in New York in early January and in California by mid-January, Chinazzi told Live Science. Other states followed.
“What our model seems to indicate is that the first introduction of the virus in New York was around early January and more generally, what we see is that by the end of February, most of the states have been seeded and have local transmission,” Chinazzi said.
The first confirmed community spread of the coronavirus in New York was in a lawyer from Westchester County who first went to the hospital for his symptoms on Feb. 27, New York 4 reported. Genetic studies of viral samples in New York now suggest that community spread began by late January, mostly from introductions of the virus from Europe. Researchers at both NYU Langone and Mount Sinai conducted those studies.
Epidemiologists in Colorado believe that the coronavirus landed in the Rocky Mountains somewhere between Jan. 20 and Jan. 30. The estimate comes from two different methods, Elizabeth Carlton, an epidemiologist at the University of Colorado School of Public Health, told Live Science. First, simple back-of-the-envelope calculations based on when the first detected cases in Colorado’s outbreak reported symptoms suggest that those people got sick in that time frame. Second, the models that Carlton and her colleagues are using to track and forecast Colorado’s cases fit the idea that the first cases in the state emerged between Jan. 20 and Jan. 30. (Colorado didn’t report its first cases of the virus until March 4, according to Colorado Public Radio.)
“It’s ski season in Colorado in January, so it’s not hard to imagine that someone from one of the West Coast states came to Colorado to go skiing and brought an infection,” Carlton said. “That’s just one of many possible routes.”
Data on excess deaths compared to previous years can also help reveal when coronavirus landed in a particular state. In Florida, for example, The Sun-Sentinel reported that a spike in pneumonia-related deaths in mid-March could point to a nascent coronavirus outbreak starting by at least late February.
Was that cough COVID-19?
Given differences in the timing of the virus’s arrival and the severity of outbreaks so far, the chance that any given respiratory illness in January or February could have been COVID-19 depends on where you live: It’s far more likely that a resident of Manhattan in New York City has already had the virus compared with a resident of Manhattan, Kansas.
Flu season clouds the issue. There’s no national clearinghouse of influenza case statistics, and many people with flu are not given a flu swab to confirm the diagnosis, so no one knows exactly how many cases of influenza occurred in January or February either. But the CDC estimates that there were between 39 million and 56 million cases of flu in the U.S. between October 2019 and April 2020. That means that at the peak of flu season in January and February, the number of cases of influenza virus likely far outnumbered the coronavirus cases in the United States.
It’s also hard to extrapolate back today’s infection numbers to estimate the prevalence of coronavirus in January and February. That’s because many cases of COVID-19 are still going undiagnosed by testing, and researchers still don’t know how many people infected with coronavirus experience only mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, Carlton and Chinazzi said.
Antibody studies, which look for immune-system proteins made when the body fights off a virus, can reveal approximately how many people in a population have been exposed. A research study that recruited people at grocery stores and tested their blood for antibodies to the coronavirus found that 1 in 7 people in New York state, and nearly 1 in 4 in New York City, has been exposed to the coronavirus. It’s unclear whether those results will generalize to the population at large — people staying home to avoid even grocery stories might have lower infection rates, for example — but they do suggest that the chances of someone in New York having been infected already are not negligible. However, given that the virus spreads exponentially through the population, extrapolating back to January or February shrinks the number of active cases significantly, meaning that likely only a tiny fraction of people in the city were sick with COVID-19 at that time.
That means if you had respiratory symptoms in New York in January or February, chances are probably still better that it was the flu or a seasonally circulating coronavirus.
Elsewhere, the chances of having had coronavirus in January or February are even less clear. Two controversial studies in California put the percent of people who had already been exposed at between 2.5% and 4.2% in Santa Clara county and at up to 5.6% in Los Angeles, but those data have been criticized as likely overestimating the exposure. Both may have inadvertently recruited participants who thought they might have been exposed, biasing the sample; in addition, the antibody tests they used had a high rate of false positives, making results unreliable when low levels of the population have been exposed to the disease.
In Colorado, epidemiologists are estimating that 1% of the population has already had COVID-19. A cough or fever in February would be more likely than one in January to be a symptom of COVID-19, Carlton said, simply because there would have been more circulating cases as time went on. But there’s a lot of uncertainty in the 1% estimate given limitations in testing and the wide range of severity of symptoms, Carlton said.
“This is the question that everyone is interested in answering,” she said. “How many people really have had it?”

Hydroxycut Hardcore CLA Elite Non Stimulant
Facebook Twitter Pinterest Email
I am guessing you are here to lose weight?
And you are wondering which Hydroxycut product will help?
Well you are in luck we have featured the top 3 products to help you lose
Weight in the compare section at the bottom of the page.
But first imagine this
It’s a beautiful summer’s morning and you look at your window and out of the corner of your eye you notice your neighbor swing open his front door and emerge with a heavy rain coat, a top hat and a pipe extending from his mouth next a big ploom of smoke belches from his mouth. That is rather strange you think.
The next day again you are looking out of your window.
Then suddenly your neighbor swings open his door OH MY GOD!!!
Now he is wearing the tightest swimming trunks you have ever seen! He is donning a thick chest wig and he has an orange life boy strapped over his back!. Has he lost his mind? Naturally the next morning your primed and ready in anticipation will your neighbor appear as this time! But before you even wake you hear boom boom boom the whole bedroom is shaking you rush to the window and your neighbor is half naked. He has a full crest of decorative feathers around his head, a thick orange tan and a very modest leather buckskin loincloth covering his private parts.
With vigorous gesticulations and whooping your neighbor then proceeds to dance around the campfire he has built on on the front porch, you can barely contain your amazement! How does this relate to Hydroxycut you’re probably asking?
Well friends hydroxycut are like the neighbor they are bit strange every now and again they release a new product with fancy new packaging “sports” “for women” “max” “CLA Elite” the problem is most of them contain the same ingredients! Yes some change some minor ingredients but nearly all contain copious amounts of caffeine and C.canephora robusta – (Green Coffee Extract) So the question is does Hardcore CLA Elite offer anything else? does it work? And does it even appear in the top 3? (see the compare section)
Hydroxycut CLA Elite belongs to the hydroxycut sports range designed for both men and women. It is one of only a few Hydroxycut supplements to be non stimulant that does not contain caffeine. The company promote CLA Elite as being specially formulated for people who have a more active lifestyle and It comes in soft gel capsules.
Hydroxycut has been in the market for over 20 years now and it is also known as one of the leading dietary supplements in America. However, despite its acclaimed fame, the brand had actually undergone some reformulations in the past years due to health scares. These reports linked hydroxycut to some serious health problems such as Hepatotoxicity. As of today the formulations are no longer linked to lawsuits but they certainly still get above average complaints from customers.
We also discovered shocking evidence of fake reviews on the official website and on Amazon we have featured a whole article on the subject but before you read that stick around you still want to know which is the best hydroxycut supplement right?
Aside from the brand’s key ingredient (c. canephora extract) which the company touts as the key scientifically proven. Hydroxycut CLA Elite is special in that it does not have caffeine. Instead it mostly relies on a big fat dollop of CLA (1000mg 1 serving 2 soft gels) a dose of L-carnitine, L-tartrate,among other ingredients which we tell you all about the ingredient section.
Hydroxycut CLA Elite promises to give you the following benefits:
Thermogenesis
Improved focus
Boost of energy
There are 2 limited studies to suggest the main ingredient C. canephora robusta helps to achieve modest weight reduction when included with a low calorie diet. The Hydroxycut website gets very excited and displays the following statement next to every supplement however read on because the independent science is key. “In 2006 study subjects taking C.canephora robusta for 60 days lost an average of 10.95lbs vs placebo which lost 5.40lbs. Hydroxycut Official Website” The US National Library of Medicine had this to say.
“The evidence from RCTs seems to indicate that the intake of GCE can promote weight loss. However, several caveats exist. The size of the effect is small, and the clinical relevance of this effect is uncertain. More rigorous trials with longer duration are needed to assess the efficacy and safety of GCE as a weight loss supplement”
One testimonial on the official website features busty Johanna no suggestion of course that she was paid for her looks –picture. “…I absolutely love my transformation and I am looking forward to what the future holds! To anyone thinking of taking Hydroxycut, stop thinking and try it” ~ Johanna.
However if you take a look at the official website you will notice there are no customer reviews recorded. Not that matters considering customer reviews on the other products are highly questionable. Customer reviews on Amazon have an average of 3.4 out of 5 stars however we found clear evidence of planted positive reviews for most of the hydroxycut supplements which you should read about Here later.
Many of the positive reviews are unnatural sales letters with the customer names repeated giving false positive reviews on numerous other hydroxycut products. It is all very dark and murky. There have not been that many customer reviews of Hydroxycut CLA Elite online. Walgreens website has only one review of the product which was given 2 years ago, according to Matt Smeltzer ~ “I started using this product over 1 week ago. I’m limiting my calories to !,300 per day and doing light to moderate exercise including weight training. I lost 5 lbs the first week. As for Ebay, although one customer has given the product a 3-star rating, according to him it has a “Good quality”~ jesp2407. On amazon there was only 11 reviews with a poor ratio of positive to negative reviews compared to the best selling weight loss supplements. It is also rather odd that this supplement only 11 reviews between the peroid 2016 to 2019.

The key ingredient, C. canephora robusta was backed by two limited scientific studies. However the placebo groups on both studies also lost weight so the weight loss was not remarkable. Read our main review of hydroxycut and discover what a leading research establishment said about the results.
In 2006 study subjects taking C.canephora robusta for 60 days lost an average of 10.95lbs vs placebo which lost 5.40lbs. Both groups followed a low calorie diet.
In a separate 8-week study in 2010, subjects taking C. canephora robusta lost an average of 3.7lbs vs placebo, which lost 1.25lbs. So if we break that down we notice the weight loss attributable to each group was just over 5.5lbs and 2.5lbs respectively over 2 months. C. canephora robusta (Green Coffee) said to contribute to weight loss. The US National Library had this to say in one study National Library of Medicine.
Differences in plasma glucose, insulin, and gastrointestinal hormone profiles further confirm the potent biological action of caffeine and suggest that chlorogenic acid might have an antagonistic effect on glucose transport. Therefore, a novel function of some dietary phenols in humans may be to attenuate intestinal glucose absorption rates and shift the site of glucose absorption to more distal parts of the intestine.

Is This Dog Dangerous? Shelters Struggle With Live-or-Die Tests
Dr. Sara Bennett administered a behavior test to a pit bull mix named Elsey at Indianapolis Animal Care Services in May.
Jan Hoffman
July 31, 2017
Bacon, a cream-colored retriever mix, took a behavior test recently at an animal shelter here. He flunked.
Bounding into the evaluation room, Bacon seemed like an affable goofball, ready for adoption. But as he gulped down food, Dr. Sara Bennett, a veterinary behaviorist, stuck a fake plastic hand attached to a pole into his bowl and tugged it away. Instantly, Bacon lunged at the hand, chomping down on it hard.
Shelters have used this exercise and others for some 20 years to assess whether a dog is safe enough to be placed with a family. For dogs, the results can mean life or death.
“If you failed aggression testing, you did not pass go,” said Mary Martin, the new director of Maricopa County animal shelter in Phoenix, which takes in 34,000 dogs annually. Between January and June 2016, 536 dogs were euthanized for behavior, most because of test results.
But now researchers, including some developers of the tests, are concluding that they are unreliable predictors of whether a dog will be aggressive in a home. Shelters are wrestling with whether to abandon behavior testing altogether in their work to match dogs with adopters and determine which may be too dangerous to be released.
In January, Ms. Martin stopped the testing. By late June, only 31 dogs had been euthanized for aggression, based on owner reports and staff observations.
“The tests are artificial and contrived,” said Dr. Gary J. Patronek, an adjunct professor at the veterinary medicine school at Tufts, who roiled the shelter world last summer when he published an analysis concluding that the tests have no more positive predictive value for aggression than a coin toss.
“During the most stressful time of a dog’s life, you’re exposing it to deliberate attempts to provoke a reaction,” Dr. Patronek said. “And then the dog does something it wouldn’t do in a family situation. So you euthanize it?”
Dr. Bennett, left, with Bacon, a retriever mix, during one of several behavior tests to evaluate whether a dog is safe for adoption.
The debate over how dogs should be evaluated arrives as efforts to generally improve outcomes for shelter animals are on an upswing. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, annual adoption rates have risen nearly 20 percent since 2011 — a period during which owning a “rescue dog” acquired something of a righteous hipness. Euthanasia rates are down, although the A.S.P.C.A. said 670,000 dogs are put to death each year. Some veterinary schools even offer shelter-medicine specializations.
Shelters are helped by a burgeoning network of rescue groups. They shuttle dogs from high-kill shelters, usually in the South and Southern California, often to foster homes and adopters in the Northeast and Northwest, where spaying and neutering campaigns have reduced puppy availability. (What Times readers had to say about the tests.)
It is impossible to know how many euthanized dogs scored false positives on behavior testing. Though rare, false negatives also can occur and have proved tragic. In December, workers at Animal Care Centers of New York City saw nothing remarkable on a standard behavior test of a dog named Blue, but noted that he had been surrendered for biting a child. A rescue group retrieved him. Blue eventually wound up in a retraining center in Virginia. On May 31, he was finally adopted; hours later, he attacked and killed a 90-year-old woman.
Some high-volume shelters cannot afford time for evaluations, much less daily walks for dogs; others have begun de-emphasizing their significance. Even Emily Weiss, the A.S.P.C.A. researcher whose behavior assessment is one of the best-known, has stepped away from food-bowl tests, saying that 2016 research showed that programs that omit them “do not experience an increase in bites in the shelter or in adoptive homes.”
Still, Jennifer Abrams, head of the behavior and enrichment staff at Animal Care Centers of New York City, which sees 8,900 dogs a year, said that anxious adopters needed assurances. “People want to know what they’re getting — that a dog won’t bite, yell and scream at other dogs on a leash,” she said.
But predicting an animal’s behavior belies the nature of dogs, Ms. Abrams said: “A dog’s behavior is based on stimuli in the moment.” Ms. Abrams’s team conducts assessments, considering them snapshots, while gathering information throughout the animal’s stay.
In the surge to modernize shelters, tests were an attempt to standardize measurements of a dog’s behavior. But evaluations often became culling tools. With overcrowding a severe problem and euthanasia the starkest solution, shelter workers saw testing as an objective way to make heartbreaking decisions. Testing seemed to offer shelters both a shield from liability and a cloak of moral responsibility.
“We thought we had the magic bullet,” said Aimee Sadler, a shelter consultant. “‘Let’s let Lassie live and let Cujo go.’ From a human perspective, what a relief.”
Dr. Bennett inspected the kennel area at Indianapolis Animal Care Services. The transition to a shelter can be traumatizing, with its cacophony of howls and barking, smells and isolating steel cages.
The 10- to 20-minute tests, developed by behaviorists and tweaked by practitioners, ask two basic questions: Will the dog attack humans? What about other dogs?
Evaluators may observe the dog react to a large doll (a toddler surrogate); a hooded human, shaking a cane; an unfamiliar leashed dog or a plush toy dog.
But these tests have never been rigorously validated.
Dr. Bennett’s 2012 study of 67 pet dogs, which compared results of two behavior tests with owners’ own reporting, found that in the areas of aggression and fearfulness, the tests showed high percentages of false positives and false negatives. A 2015 study of dog-on-dog aggression testing showed that shelter dogs responded more aggressively to a fake dog than a real one.
Janis Bradley of the National Canine Research Council, co-author with Dr. Patronek of the analysis published last fall, suggested that shelters should instead devote limited resources to “observing the many interactions that happen between dogs and people in the daily routine of the shelter.”
But Kelley Bollen, a behaviorist and shelter consultant in Northampton, Mass., maintained that a careful evaluation can identify potentially problematic behaviors. Much depends on the assessor’s skill, she added.
In fact, no qualifications exist for administering evaluations. Interpreting dogs, with their diverse dialects and complex body language — wiggling butts, lip-licking, semaphoric ears and tails — often becomes subjective.
Indianapolis Animal Care Services, which admitted 8,380 dogs to its municipal shelter in 2016, is often overcrowded and understaffed, yet faces intense scrutiny to save dogs while protecting the public. Last year it euthanized 718 dogs for behavior, based on testing and employee interactions. The agency consulted Dr. Bennett, a shelter specialist, to better manage that difficult balance.
Even as she demonstrated assessments for staff members, Dr. Bennett noted another factor that renders results suspect: the unquantifiable impact of shelter life on dogs.
Dogs thrive on routine and social interaction. The transition to a shelter can be traumatizing, with its cacophony of howls and barking, smells and isolating steel cages. A dog afflicted with kennel stress can swiftly deteriorate: spinning; pacing; jumping like a pogo stick; drooling; and showing a loss of appetite. It may charge barriers, appearing aggressive.
Conversely, some dogs shut down in self-protective, submissive mode, masking what may even be aggressive behavior that only emerges in a safe setting, like a home.
Little dogs can become more snippy. But no matter what evaluations may show, they always seem to get a pass. “I’ll warn, ‘He nips and snarls,’” recounted Laura Waddell, a seasoned trainer who does volunteer evaluations for Liberty Humane Society in Jersey City, N.J. “And I get back: ‘I don’t care! I’m in love!’”
One way to reduce kennel stress, Ms. Sadler, the shelter consultant, said, is through programs like hers, Dogs Playing for Life, which matches dogs for outside playgroups. Shelter directors say it is a more revealing and humane way to evaluate behavior. The approach is used at many large shelters, including in New York City, Phoenix and Los Angeles.
The most disputed of the assessments is the food test. Research has shown that shelter dogs who guard their food bowls, as Bacon did, do not necessarily do so at home.
The exercise purports to evaluate “resource guarding” — how viciously a dog will protect a possession, such as food, toys, people. Common-sense owners wouldn’t grab a dog’s food while it is eating. But shelters worry about children.
Dr. Bennett suggested that Bacon’s bite of the fake hand didn’t necessitate a draconian outcome. With counseling, she said, a household without youngsters would be fine.
The shelter workers dearly wanted to save Bacon. But they were so overwhelmed that they did not have the capability to match him appropriately and counsel new owners.
So Bacon remained at the shelter for several weeks, waiting. Finally, Linda’s Camp K9, an Indiana pet-boarding business that also rescues dogs, took him on. He settled right down and recently was adopted. Linda Candler, the director, placed him in a home without young children, teaching the owners how to feed him so he wouldn’t be set up to fail.
“His potential made him stand out,” Ms. Candler said. “Bacon is amazing.”

MateFit CLA 2000
Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is a mixture of fatty acids that are sourced from meat and dairy products. In supplement form, this intriguing ingredient has been the subject of numerous weight loss trials and studies, following claims that CLA can act as an effective fat burner and metabolism booster. Its reputation is now controversial, with some researchers claiming that its benefits are overhyped and relatively weak. Despite this, it remains a popular ingredient in the world of supplements, where it is described as being able to burn fat, boost the immune system, and aid digestion.
Below we take an in-depth look into Matefit CLA 2000, to see whether this CLA-based product is a strong fat-burner or another overhyped disappointment.
Matefit CLA 2000 Pros
Relatively cheap product
Few side effects
Matefit CLA 2000 Cons
Website makes ridiculously false claims about this fairly ineffective ingredient
No money-back guarantee and a confusing and risky returns policy
Matefit appear to have paid for reviews, and no independent reviews are available

What You Need To Know About Matefit CLA 2000
Matefit CLA 2000 is a fat burning supplement that is also variously said to aid the digestive system, boost the immune system, boost energy, improve health and wellbeing, and act as a detox agent. Containing just one ingredient (the titular CLA), CLA 2000 appears to be one of the manufacturer’s less-popular products, and is only available to buy from the official website.
This product is produced by Matefit, a US-based manufacturer that specializes in teatoxes. The company is heavily promoted by Hollywood celebrities, models and popstars throughout the world of social media, and seems to have invested heavily in its image. The company has pages on every social media site going, and recruits special “Matefit Reps” who spread the company’s brand in exchange for small payments and discounts.
What Are The Side Effects Of Matefit CLA 2000?
CLA can sometimes cause stomach issues, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue, although it has never been linked with more serious side effects. At least one customer mentioned a warm feeling after taking the product, although the effect was not said to be alarming.
How Much Does Matefit CLA 2000 Cost?
A single pack of CLA 2000 (with 30 servings) costs $20 on the official Matefit website. Every order on the official website also comes with free shipping.
Our Verdict On Matefit CLA 2000
CLA no longer has a good reputation as a weight loss aid, as many, many trials now show it to be a fairly weak and inconsistent fat burner at best, and totally ineffective at worst. Dieters looking to find a decent fat burner would probably be advised to look elsewhere for an ingredient with a better track record of success.
Even if someone was interested in trying out CLA, Matefit may not be the ideal choice to buy from. The company continues to maintain a very badly-worded and poorly thought out returns policy, and no purchases are protected by a money-back guarantee. Matefit also have a bad habit for making misleading and false claims about their products, as well as paying for positive reviews on Amazon. We like Matefit’s pricing and shipping arrangements (which are all very reasonable), but the company generally appears to prize misinformation and glamorous advertising above actually making high-quality products.
We would not recommend Matefit CLA 2000 to our readers.
The most popular consumer choice in 2017 is Phentaslim.

Matefit CLA 2000 Concerns:
Key ingredient is thought by researchers to be a poor fat burner
Many positive customer reviews appear to have been paid for
No money-back guarantee and a poorly-worded returns policy
What Does Matefit CLA 2000 Claim To Do?
Matefit CLA 2000 is mainly intended to work as a fat burner that specifically targets belly fat, although Matefit make a stunning number of other claims. It is also said to aid the digestion and immune systems, boost energy and improve overall wellbeing, amongst other things. Matefit back up their claims by referencing studies and highlighting the importance of supplementing CLA rather than consuming it naturally through food (as the calories consumed would negate the benefits. The full list of benefits listed on the official website are:
May improve overall health and wellness, boost energy and immunity, encourage detoxification, and aid in digestion
Supports an Increased Metabolism, Toning, Weight Loss, & Burning Body Fat
Promotes Healthy Digestion
Promotes Healthy Immune function
Rich in Antioxidant and Vital Minerals
Does Matefit CLA 2000 Work?
Conjugated Linoleic Acid has indeed been shown to successfully burn fat in a number of trials, although more recent trials suggest that it does nothing at all in terms of fat burning. Even when effective, CLA was not particularly impressive, with most researchers now concluding that it is a poor and unreliable fat burner. Customers may burn enough fat to compensate for a small snack.
The other claims that Matefit makes are frankly ridiculous, and CLA 2000 will almost certainly have no effect on the digestion system, immune system, and overall health and wellbeing. It is not an antioxidant at all.
What Are The Ingredients of Matefit CLA 2000?
The only ingredient included in Matefit CLA 2000 is detailed below. The ingredient quantities listed below are true for 1 serving of CLA 2000 (2 softgels).
Safflower Oil 2000mg (contains 80% Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) 1600mg): Although some early trials indicated that CLA could burn a small amount of fat when supplemented, more recent evidence may be suggesting that it often fails to do that. Although it may cause a tiny bit of weight loss and may lower blood pressure, it is generally inconsistent and weak when compared to other fat burners. Source: http://ift.tt/2kILe0s
Does Matefit CLA 2000 Have Any Side Effects?
CLA has not been linked with serious side effects, and many customers won’t encounter anything adverse whilst taking this product. On occasion, CLA can cause stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue.
Caution: Not suitable for individuals under 18 years of age. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding consult a doctor before using this product. If you are taking any medication, or have any type of medical issue, consult with a doctor before using this product.
Are There Any Customer Reviews For Matefit CLA 2000?
There are a few customer reviews for Matefit CLA 2000 on Amazon, although virtually all mention that they gave their review in exchange for free products from Matefit. This doesn’t make them particularly helpful, as people tend not to be honest when they have effectively received a payment to review something (this may be why all the below Amazon reviews read like infomercials). One dissenting customer did leave an honest opinion on the official website, and we would advise maintaining some healthy skepticism for the others.
Not my fav
Now if you have an issue swallowing large capsules or even large pills this would probably not be for you… I noticed that I had a bit more energy and I was hot. I hard like a warm sensation throughout my body. It was strange but not alarming… On day three I noticed I was not eating as much and not craving anything at all. I still had my energy boost, but the warm feeling slowly went away. I received this product for free in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
Will have a positive effect on your health. Follow the product instructions for maximum effect. Lookup the main ingredient and you’ll better understand why this can be such a game changer. I received this product at a discounted rate in exchange for product testing and review.
As I get older, I struggle more and more with my stubborn belly fat. I waist train, I exercise, I do crunches and sit ups, yet nothing seems to be effective in getting rid of my belly fat. I knew that I needed assistance with a natural supplement since I hate to take diet pills. I have been testing out the MateFit CLA 2000 for the past week, and I think that my stomach does not protrude out as much as it usually does… Disclaimer: I received this product from the seller at a discounted rate or for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
When I do remember to take my CLA 2000 – Conjugated Linoleic Acid I do notice that it helps suppress my appetite and I feel fuller quick, which is a plus in my book. Unfortunately, I don’t take it religiously, so its hard to tell how much influence it had in my weight loss journey. I received my CLA 2000 – Conjugated Linoleic Acid at a discounted price and/or free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Does Matefit CLA 2000 Offer a Money-Back Guarantee?
On the official website, Matefit claim that all of their products are protected by a money-back guarantee. However, a detailed look at the confusing returns policy makes this seem untrue. In the same paragraph, Matefit claim that all returned products must be “unused and in the same condition that you received it”, before then stating that they accept “opened” packs 2 sentences later. In any case, the returns policy also states that the company can “reject” a refund after the item has been sent back, and claims that partial refunds may be offered. We don’t consider this odd arrangement to be a real money-back guarantee.
Where Can I Buy Matefit CLA 2000?
Matefit’s various products can be purchased on the official Matefit website and on Amazon, although CLA 2000 appears to only be available on the official website at the moment. One bottle of Matefit CLA 2000 (containing 30 servings) costs $20 and comes with free shipping.
