Hello 👋
Since you're answering, can we now know a little more about SJ x TL? Or maybe SJ x WRH? (Is Wangxian still happening?)
Can't wait for another update, your fics are my favorite thing to re read 🥺
Lol I read SJ as Shen Jiu and TL as Tianlang Jun.
I'll spoil some things for Sung Jinwoo X Wen Ruohan, how about that?
With the expansionary policies of the Wen Sect (aka taking over many smaller sects and recruiting rogue cultivators), the other sects take note and do the same. It's very much an imperialistic race to conquer and colonize the other sects (like the European powers slicing up Africa and Asian ahem).
So rogue cultivators? Far and few.
Wei Wuxian's parents thus are part of the Jiang Sect and are still alive in this AU; they were rogue cultivators for a few years until the rather insistent Wen recruiters trying to get their headhunting commission (cough much like how job recruiters today can make big bucks for successful job candidates) so they went back to the Jiang sect to become officially affiliated. They still act much like rogue cultivators, but, you know, being officially affiliated still means something.
Add in Wei Changze's bbf (best buddies forever) status with Jiang Fengmian and you get a Wei Wuxian who's more highly regarded by the cultivation world because who cares as much about social status/class when power is more important - power and money.
(Imperialism and colonialism - or at least for British Empire and I'm still using a wide paintbrush for describing this - the social hierarchy was a lot more flexible for the monopole center. Families gain great status and class with the wealth they could claw from the colonies. Indentured servants who traveled to the Americas worked off their years of service and were able to acquired land and slaves afterwards thanks to good timing and buying cheap land before its value and price skyrocketed.)
With Wen Ruohan serving as a leader for both the cultivation world AND the mortal realm - notice how he's establishing schools and domestic policies that impact tradesmen, roads, local politics, and more? - the cultivation world wakes up to the value of the non-cultivation world and is now imposing more control over the local towns and cities. The extraction of wealth (cough taxes) naturally is one form of control; but propaganda and the flow of information is another.
Does Wangxian happen? Sure, but here it's tainted by the fact that the Lan and Jiang are seeing another opportunity to establish another strong alliance via marriage. There's more eyes on the couple - more to criticize, more that wish to undermine such a relationship, more to gossip. As much as there are those who wish to throw Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji into nice neat boxes of gender expectations, there's those who want to profit off such things (the yellow books, gossip columns, matchmakers who see more opportunities to throw concubines at the two, etc.). The fate of Lan Wangji's mother was a well kept secret... which means that naturally it will get leaked out and weaponized at some point.
The political instability is both a result and response to Wen Ruohan making his imperialistic desires clear and obvious to all. There's more shuffling of cultural norms and more social mobility but there's also more bottom-up movements -religious revivals, fearmongering events (cough like the Salem witch trial) - that are a response to the social chaos and economic unpredictability.
Okay, that's enough rambling from me. Not even sure if all these random thoughts make sense, but here you go.

Wen RuohanXSung Jinwoo au. I'm curious, does SJW explore the cultivation world while bored or is he a couch potato watching listlessly on the ongoings of the sect? On one hand, we have the potential story of him becoming a known rouge cultivator but, on the other, we have a story of SJW being known as a lazy himbo 🤔.
Now I'm just imagining Sung Jinwoo the oblivious tourist touring the cultivation world with his incognito husband Wen Ruohan who's decided to dress up as a married woman for giggles on his arm.
Sung Jinwoo doesn't realize just how different modern mannerisms and cultivation mannerisms are. Wen Ruohan views Sung Jinwoo's modern politeness and bluntness as (rightfully) being demanding, direct, and coming from someone used to being the authority figure. Which... you know, feeds into Wen Ruohan's belief that Sung Jinwoo is a god.
Anyways since Sung Jinwoo is a tourist, he's coming off as a jerk of a rich noble who thinks he's still a big fish after leaving his small pond. Guy doesn't even have a cultivation sword or anything to really denote being a truly powerful noble after all! All he has is a good looking lady wife on his arm - but that would be any sort of woman dressed up in finery.
A pig in lipstick is still a pig after all.
Anyways, Sung Jinwoo causes havoc in the cultivation world in all sorts of ways, whether it's being an irritant and not realizing how he's insulting people by speaking so bluntly without the usual honorifics and other roundable ways of speaking that's considered polite in China or sparking off insane rumors about Wen Ruohan being married to a harem of over 3 digits worth of woman...
(Lol imagine some spy hearing Wen Ruohan speaking to Sung Jinwoo's various shadow summons and thinking that it's just another harem member.)

I have a question for the married life of Sung Jinwoo and Wen Ruohan. What was there wedding like and who proposed first?
Wen Ruohan proposed first! Sung Jinwoo, with his modern sensibilities, says yes because 1. if it doesn't work out, then divorce and 2. he likes the guy and if he says no, this relationship is going to tank like the titanic hitting an iceberg called When Public Proposes Go Wrong.
Yeah, of course Wen Ruohan's marriage proposal was in a public setting. That's how Ancient China works with guards and servants milling all around. To Wen Ruohan, those people are basically background props; to Sung Jinwoo, those people make this place, even though it's a private garden where only Wen Ruohan and his staff are allowed in, a Public Space and There's So Many Eyes On Us What Are You DOING?!
Wen Ruohan is a bit of a manipulator (understatement). He def. knows how his husband-to-be would react to such a proposal.
Oh, and Wen Ruohan made hints about how he's getting "pressured" (LIES, I tell you, LIES) by the elders to get married. Sung Jinwoo wasn't exactly given no warning.
The marriage was a standard Ancient Chinese wedding... or as standard as an Ancient Chinese wedding can be with two grooms and Sung Jinwoo eventually getting slotted into the "bride" role. Well, Sung Jinwoo wasn't exactly unwilling but his shadow soldiers were very unwilling to let Wen Ruohan pass through to pick up the bride. Wen Ruohan may or may not have gotten stuck trying to past the shadow summons' tests for 7 hours... (Sung Jinwoo fell asleep while getting his makeup and hair done, so he didn't stop his shadow summons fast enough.)

With Sung Jinwoo x Wen Ruohan married, their wedding anniversaries must be a challenge every year since they’re married for such a long time. Somehow I see their wedding anniversary a sect holiday.
I don't know. A whole day of doing nothing productive and just lazing around is so many levels of sheer amazing. Nothing can top actually having a day of peace and quiet that no one is allowed to interfere with - not even the kids.
No, actually, make that a solid week deep in the woods / hidden realm. Just the two of them bathing in lovely silence and peace.

Wen rouhan yelling "I! AM! A! GOD! I have GOD and ANIME ON MY SIDE!"
Is so funny if we add toddler Chao and Xu yelling the same thing as they T-pose at the other cultivators.
Not toddler Wen Chao throwing his fidget spinner at people, Wen Xu filling up wells with orbitz, and Wen Ruohan finding (biodegradable) glitter everywhere.

Just wondering what reactions and interactions Sung Jinwoo’s parents and Jonah would be if they meet Wen Ruohan and their kids (Wen Xu and Wen Chao).
My mind deviated elsewhere...
Imagine Sung Jinah infecting Wen Ruohan's speech patterns.
"Oh my, what a chonky cultivator!" Wen Ruohan says, looking at Sung Jinah proudly just like any old boomer who incorrectly uses modern slang while thinking that they have definitely gotten a handle over the mysterious thing known as teenager talk. "Bae got dem peaches." He says cheerily, reaching out for one of said peaches in Jinwoo's fruit basket.
"LOL!" Wen Ruohan says while overseeing a torture session. "S-M-H", he carefully spells out before criticizing the Wen cultivator who's doing the actual torturing. "Ya needta put moar swag. More jazz - and some wigs and more red soup too."
"..."
"Wut."
(Naturally Wen Xu and Wen Chao follow in their father's footsteps in how badly they pick up and use modern slang. After all, their only source of information is from Jinwoo - who has no clue what these slang even mean - and Jinah who doesn't explain everything clearly.
As for why Wen Ruohan and his kids want to use this slang so quickly and desperately? Clearly it's the language - the dialect - of the gods!)

For sung jinwoo x wen ruohan au
I think that they (the wen sect) technically had a longer lifespan rather than the other sect because they have more knowledge of sicknesses and how to cure them (all the herbalism notes he brings back from the earth so they can study what plant is used for what)
Yes. There's also the standard xianxia setting that the higher your cultivation rank levels up, the longer your lifespan becomes.
Wen Ruohan's cultivation is extremely high, which is how he's still young and youthful while his Lan peers (I think it was written in chapter 1 but I could be wrong) are now ranked as elders and have the whole white hair winkled skin look.
But I also imagine that the modern knowledge that Sung Jinwoo has brought back has also led to some interesting discoveries and shortcuts for the Wen Sect when it comes to increasing cultivation rank/stage/level - whatever the standard terminology is.
Another benefit is just the Wen Sect's lower casualty rate in night hunts. Why? Because there's shadow soldiers.
There really aren't that many night hunts going on for disciples. It's more like field trips to be honest since all the truly dangerous ones (but also the mundane ones) are dealt with shadow soldiers. Wen disciples focus more on the government stuff that shadow summons can't do... like paperwork. Presiding over hearings and trials. Being cultivator ubers.
This is yet another reason why Wen Ruohan doesn't allow disciples to leave Qishan until they are much older; they just don't get as much night hunting experience as other sects' disciples do.

For the wen ruohan x sung jin woo au, wouldn't it be fun if jin woo brings some games from the earth? I'm not talking about games as in Minecraft but more of card game/board game etc
I could picture the wens children playing go fish in their spare times and old man gambling in the nights
I could also see the lans playing games like crossword or sudoku
On one hand, you have a great idea.
On the other hand, now I want to throw this world into chaos by introducing "Cards against Humanity"...
Oh dear.

Based on what I've read, is it safe to assume that a wen sect is a place that is open to lgbtq+ community?
On Ao3, I got asked "How are cutsleeves thought of in this society?", so I'm going to copy and paste the answer here:
Okay, so what sets this apart is that Wen Ruohan was already sect leader when he met Jinwoo; Wen Ruohan is well respected and regarded for his cultivation prowess and he's considered a genius. He's the top boss and there aren't Wen elders who have the power to stop Wen Ruohan. Who will have the guts to mock or disdain Wen Ruohan (and by proxy, his male lover) as a result?
Plus, with China's emphasis about continuing the family line, Wen Ruohan just has to be willing to take in a female concubine or two to produce children sometime in the future and no one will really care that his main lover is male. Given that cultivators have longer lifespans (since they have stronger immune systems and all that good stuff), Wen Ruohan doesn't have to rush to have kids either. It's not like anyone is strong enough to kill him anytime soon, especially given Jinwoo's shadow summons are protecting him in the shadows as an extra precautionary measure to his safety.
Other male couples aren't willing to involve female concubines into the relationship, but this is the benefit of Jinwoo coming from modern Earth. He sees the concubines as just surrogates (who need to be married in as concubines so the children are seen as legitimate) AND there's no actual sex involved between Wen Ruohan and the concubines. Hana was very confused why Jinwoo needed a turkey baster. Just one turkey baster. 😉 (Hana: you sure you don't need a dozen turkey basters? I thought you had over a dozen cooks in the kitchen??)
Each sect will have different thoughts about homosexuality, but the Wen sect is a-okay with it coming from Wen Ruohan
-o-o-o-
So the answer here about the Wen Sect's views on homosexuality is very confusing.
Gay marriage is fine as long as the men involved still continue their family lines - and the children would be considered legitimate enough as long as the mother of the children are official concubines. Jinwoo has introduces a method of artificial insemination which makes it even easier for gay men to deal with their duties of continuing family line.
Unless the men in the gay relationship are of high status (in terms of wealth, noble background, whatever), not many women would be willing to marry in as a concubine instead of wife. Being a concubine is like being a second class citizen - it's not that great in terms of prestige, so there better be enough benefits for it to be worthwhile.
Of course, each person's level of what is considered enough as "worthwhile" varies. A commoner woman (or her family) in a desperate enough situation might be happy enough with guaranteed food and shelter. (Or maybe the family doesn't care about their female children that they just want to get rid of said female children because that means less mouths to feed.)
-o-o-o-
As for sapphic relationships, they have no hopes of being officially acknowledged. This is still modern China with strong patriarchal system.
But you know, if a woman finds a gay couple and volunteers to be their concubine, once they finish popping out a couple babies, she's basically done her job and the gay couple should (theoretically) not care if she starts sleeping with other women. It's not like she's going to get pregnant lol. Would be extra great if her female lover ends up in the same harem that she is.
(What also works is if there’s a class difference so that one is the lady and the other is her maid. Not great to have such imbalanced power dynamics for a romantic relationship, let’s be real, and I personally think private shouldn’t mix with business relationships, but hey, they don’t have many options.)
Wen Sect still has a lot to improve on in LGBTQ+ policies and societal views.

what if they add the Korean language as part of the school curriculum because sung jin woo is Korean. It can be considered as a second language for those people from sect.
I think it's a great idea because it's increasing the chance for merchants from ancient Korea to work with them. After all, the language barrier is no longer an issue. And you know, they also get a lot of money from it so it's a win.
Maybe they can also teach another foreign language like Japanese, Arabic, etc (not compulsory but if you want to learn it you can hire a tutor)
Nah. The Korean that the merchants would be speaking would be more likely something like Proto-Korean or Old Korean - which Jinwoo doesn't speak/read. So if the schools were to teach Korean, it would be modern Korean but they wouldn't be able to communicate with the Korean merchants.
If the schools were to teach a third language, it would make a lot more sense for it to be modern Chinese or English - they could read through all the modern academic texts that Jinwoo brings back lmao. But as it is, the schools are already teaching 2 languages: Classical Chinese (for literature, poetry, and as the language used in the government) and vernacular Chinese.

Are you suggesting that Lan Xichen is looking at all the unmarried folk of a certain age in the Wen sect, weighing up the cons against the pro of "and now I can read The Books", and developing serious, customized plans as to how he could potentially trick each of them into marriage?
I think you meant to say Lan Qiren, not Lan Xichen, but yes.
It's not like he's planning on falling in love after seeing the whole mess that his brother's love caused. He's so old, he's not interested in marriage for love. Marriage for books though? Sign him up. Now that's a transaction that he's more than happy to sign off.
(Wen Zhuliu X Lan Qiren anyone?)

I love the idea that modern education system implemented in Wen Sect ,and how every commoner are literate and know to count. What would other sects think of it? I like to think that other sects may tired to send their heirs to Qishen to get educated especially in higher education or hire tutors to teach them.
It's already been hinted at, but the Qishen Wen is very insular. They don't exactly interact or even like dealing with people outside of the Qishen Wen territory.
The other cultivation sects are insular in that they only focus on cultivation matters and end up neglected non-cultivation issues... like they don't really think about how the farmers feel about all the cultivators trampling through his poor fields while hunting some ghoul. Yeah, the common people usually don't like cultivators too much.
In Qishen Wen, that's different. Instead of this cultivator vs. mortal divide, it's Qishen Wen vs. not Qishen Wen.
So the Wen Sect looks at any and all ways to improve its territory. If that means free education to the common people, okay.
The Qishen Wen think about how they can use cultivation techniques to improve every day life and sells them to ordinary folks. We see one such example where the shopkeeper (or was it cashier?) presses on a talisman to alert public security services (aka police) that he needs someone (aka this Jin cultivator in front of him) arrested.
Other sects don't even realize the benefits they can derive if they provide such services to ordinary folks. They just solely focus on cultivation matters - like hunting spiritual animals, dealing with ghosts and demons, and ignore anything else. Talisman are just for cultivators and for nighthunting purposes.
Anyways, back to the original topic. The sects have no clue with what's going on with the Qishen Wen Sect. They don't know the full picture about the Wen's top notch education system or that it's open AND free to ordinary folks. They have no clue what's going on with Wen Ruohan's "harem". Heck, Jinwoo has been in MDZS for a long while now and why is it that the cultivators don't even know about him?
It's all because the Qishen Wen is not open to foreigners. They don't welcome foreigner and the only time foreigners are "welcomed" is when they have to host a discussion conference. (Who ends up hosting the Discussion Conferences is rotated between the major sects.) The Wen Sect also doesn't send its disciples outside of its territory often, so that also limited the spread of information.
Well, I should note that people are welcome to move to Qishen and join the Wen Sect. But that's because they are permanently committing themselves to Qishen. (Lao Nie just happens to be a unique exception to the rule because he's Lao Nie.)
Lan Qiren can hope to study in Qishen all he wants; he's not welcomed unless he becomes affiliated with the Wen Sect through some sort of permanent bond... like marriage.

I really can't wait for SJW to be revealed to the entire cultivation world. It's like a slap to the face to the people that believed WRH is evil. And I think that Lao Nie would be a total troll and would annoyingly say "I told you so" to multiple people. Imagining them looking so dumbfounded, makes me giggle. Also, quick question, what do you plan to do with Nie Huaisang? We all know that he's smart and I think him, seeing his father honestly liking WRH, would believe Lao Nie's opinions.
But who said that Wen Ruohan isn't evil? He's just a very different type of evil.
(Cough he's evil like capitalism is evil, invasive plants are evil, and lawyers are lawfully evil - all that good stuff.)
As for Nie Huaisang, he didn't really get into sect politics or take things seriously until Sunshot Campaign and Nie Mingjue's death. So with neither of those two events happening to serve as a catalyst to his character growth, right now he's still a carefree young master dodging saber practices to paint, gossip, and catch more exotic birds. AKA he's got no opinions because he doesn't really pay much attention to the things that aren't part of his hobbies.

How does healthcare affect people from the qishan wen people?
There's a ton of plague that I found while researching about China from back in the day. Are they required to take vaccination to prevent illnesses such as influenza?
There must have been a lot of studies about diseases that are hard to cure (at the time cause they were ancient people yknow they don't have inhalers to stop them from dying from asthma in 10 sec ) such as tumors and also research about the cultivation related topics like how to prevent dying from qi deviation etc
Uh... I don't know if vaccinations (or at least Earth styled vacations) would be a thing. Because that implies knowledge about bacteria, germs, and cells and I'm not sure if cultivators are ready to acknowledge that instead of thinking those are just fancy heaven terms of qi, qi imbalance, etc.
(Keep in mind that all this knowledge is getting filtered through Wen Ruohan who is a cultivator first and foremost and his assumptions/misunderstandings are often not getting caught by Sung Jinwoo and thus they aren't corrected... Beru is not help either since his understanding of human society is from TV shows, social media, and just not. Uh. Proper channels of information.)
BUT that doesn't mean the cultivation world can't develop their own healing methods! When people don't realize that something is supposed to be "impossible", they will achieve the "impossible". So maybe Wen Qing does invent some sort of way to funnel qi into other people's bodies that works as a vaccine. Maybe some other cultivator figures out special talisman that sanitizes a room from all bacteria and viruses. (A water-cleaning talisman means that cholera is no more!)
Plus, if Ancient Egypt has papers on trauma surgery and did perform surgeries to remove tumors and ulcers (it's called the Edwin Smith Papyrus for anyone interested and it described 8 instances of surgery), nothing says that the Ancient China setting can't figure it out too!

Wen Chao vs. Trig Class with no calculators
Got asked this on discord, so I thought I would include it here.
Sung Jinwoo does not bring any electronics to MDZS.
Yes, that means no calculators. So now you must be wondering this: how do the students learn and calculate trig without a calculator?
They use a sheet of paper with the trig functions like this:
Tumblr media
As someone who's used to servants keeping him organized... Wen Chao does not keep good track of his trig sheet. Nor does he memorize the values on the table.
You can guess why he keeps failing his trig class now.
(Basically Wen Chao is that kid in school who never uses a binder or folder and just stuffs all his papers into the backpack. Everything gets crumpled and it's a whole mess in his backpack/locker. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, he finds that one sheet of math homework that he was supposed to turn in 2 years ago in the middle of PE. "Oh! That's where it went??")
