*sinks down*
I'm the kind of meticulous but ridiculous person that doesn't trust in their computers. Ever since I had that one incident in 2011, I always found myself "cursed" with my computers and related.
I am SO meticulous that I don't let anything pass under my nose when I'm doing back ups. SEVERAL back ups. I always write down what I have done and what I don't, and my process.
I messed up a few hours ago.
I shouldn't have done something when everything was so... fluid... so smooth. And because I am also some kind of idiot, I guess... I decided to put a VERY HUGE file in zip into my HDD. When I realized that MAYBE I shouldn't, I backed off and cancelled it. And even so, everything was still working so fluid...
Until I decided to plug off, to safely eject the HDD.
And I was warned about some stuff related to "Volume" and that I was using SOMETHING that was using or processing it. And I thought, "well, let me close everything" and I did.. but the issue was still there. Persistent.
I decided to shut down the laptop... and I think that's where I made the 2nd mistake... although, to be fair? I was already in a dead end. And I didn't know what else to do. I could have unplugged it, ejected it w/o warning... but I thought "if I turn it off, maybe the issue would fix, right?"
I turned on the laptop again, and theeeen, I see my HDD blinking in red and producing sound that I never heard before. Weird.
And then, the "Volume" issue was there. I decided to obey my dumb judgement at almost 6 AM (because, of course). and forecfully ejected it. 2nd mistake there.
I put it back on and it seems like normal... until it wasn't. I was checking if my latest saved files there were still working... but didn't.
The thumbnails weren't identifiable. Some folders that I saved days ago showed nothing, "empty". And I did see a thumbnail that looked like it got corrupted. And opening the files it showed me there was some error. And then I started to panic.
I ejected it and plug it in a few times, but Explorer didn't react smoothly, and it was starting to give me issues.
And... here I am. My HDD cannot be read on this laptop or my dad's. My computer half-assly identifies it (it kinda knows what it is), but everything else (as in identifying it as a disk drive?, not even as a disk, something?), nothing.
It's like it got blocked? And the computer doesn't even try in identifying it. It told me a couple of times that the USB cable couldn't be identifiable.
And I'm here, hurting, sad, everything... it's hard to describe, if I'm honest. I'm angry, I'm sad, I feel like shit.
Like... I know I shouldn't be too attached to things, I know. Luckily, the HDD is 3 years or smth old and the laptop was already here before I got it. A WHOLE lot of things are still in this lap, but not everything. And I even was "wise enough" to not even keep some things (specifically like, 30% of my whole video files) because I feel like a total idiot in trusting that my things would be "safe" enough, given that I took care of it as much as possible. I EVEN tried to not do my back up routine these past two days because the storm/hurricane/rain meant that a potential black out in my area would turn my laptop off (which doesn't charge anymore and I depend on electricity... YES, I got a new laptop but I was EXACTLY trying to avoid stuff that I happened to go through in the past), and so, the HDD would end up having issues.
Exactly to avoid this drama that charges me lots of anxiety that I shouldn't have in the first place. Bothering everyone else because it was 6 AM and OF COURSE this shit happens TOO late at night or too early in the morning, because of course.
I'm tired that I give everyone problems or they complain that I should be more cold about stuff like this, but I don't think explaining my issue to Reddit (and trying to explain it as best as possible in English, I mean, YEAH, I know I can write my issues and other things in English, but I don't have the patience to explain EVERYTHING under a few minutes since it's not my first language, especially when I'm required to get TOO technical and the technicalities slip my mind because I am not tech savvy enough to EVEN do so). I tried to look for solutions, but unfortunately, my laptop also has its own SHARE of issues because its OS is TOTALLY legal, that I'm not going to touch that with a 3ft pole AND risking my files that I ALREADY backed up and that I MAY have already lost.
I'm tired of being an anxious ball of issues that only get maximized when stuff like this happens. I often wonder, with my stupid desires to learn to drive, what I would even do when I get into a car crash or else. I think of myself crying in the spot and asking forgiveness because, maybe, I shouldn't be driving in the first place. Maybe wanting to die in the spot because I was so shitty driving that I did something that is not easy to get through.
I wish to say that going to a psychologist has been working (at least to an extent), but the way I do it with appointments that are monthly, and often feeling okay but feeling like I'm stuck, stagnant, and fearing the world outside because I don't have a explicit clue of what I want to actually do in the outside is devouring me slowly. I always put it in the plate that maybe this isn't helping me as it should and maybe I should simply stop doing these appointments because I always feel remorse that I say something, I say I will do it, and then, everything works against my favors (or I don't put my feet to work on that as it should), because I fear of everything else. In fact, I admit I haven't seen them in two whole months because last month was A HUGE fucking busy mess and I haven't had the chance to make an appointment. And I'm debating that "if things have been stagnant on that front, then WHY THE HELL I'm still going with them". The thing of a psychologist, is still there, because I'm so tired of being like this and I really cannot stand it anymore, and perhaps medication would help me to get through it, to get focused, to get outside.
And right now I'm feeling the worst about my own digital stuff that I know will not be there FOREVER. I already lost plenty of that before... and I have been working hard in not suffering through it again. But, then. And then. And then.
I somehow wish ppl would understand me better about this. And I also wish they wouldn't see this side of me. Because I cannot handle it as much as I want to.
...I really want to cry, I swear everything was going TOO smoothly. I even told me myself days ago "I shouldn't do this as I am doing, that thing of deleting and putting back to the damn thing, this would bring me issues later on". I always check up that the HDD works as fine as possible when I safely eject it, and put it back to see that everything worked.
I was considering in deleting some old files from word that I saved two years ago, because I was organizing things out and I realized I messed up something before all of this, so reorganizing them would save me a headache. I didn't want to keep postponing setting up the new laptop, but, again, I was still working on the OLDER back up to have it as smooth as possible. Heck, I even almost proudly said "thank god I have some of these files like, triplicated, so in chances I mess up something, well... there's that". I was even thinking "once I get in the new laptop, I would, probably start to organize my 2017- 2020 files in something more searchable". Again, I didn't move anything else to the HDD when the storm was at its high, I was already in the middle of a headache of trying to avoid my OWN physical stuff would get ruined because of old waterleaks appearing again in my ceiling.
...To think I am going to copy 500+ GB if my hopes get in the drain and the HDD cannot be saved. Trying to recover data from laptops that I cannot turn on well because they have their whole lots of troubles, but the other files that I decided to delete because I'm VERY wise?
I REALLY wish the HDD can be saved, not formatted or anything (but given that it had a red light and it produced sounds that didn't do before... and the FACT that I still HAD to force to eject it because it was giving me issues within Windows Explorer... again, a freaking dead end). I want to rescue my files. ESPECIALLY the video ones that I cannot easily get these days. But considering WHAT happened to my laptop, before...
I'm so fucking tired. This week was something else, and I still haven't fully recovered from this past month and a half.

My horrible Odyssey to install Git LFS on my Synology NAS
So this is a bit different content from what I usually post. But I NEEDED an outlet for this incredible buildup of frustration that I had to deal with for the past WEEK. The objective seemed easy when I decided to start this terrible journey:
Install Git LFS on a Synology NAS disk station.
The Status Quo
My friend and I wanted to work on a Unity project together, so "normal" Git, I was told, would not suffice. It had to be LFS. We looked into other options before, but I thought "Hey, why not use the readily available NAS I have? Why use external, even paid services if we can just use a homebrew solution?" And that's where the descent into madness started.
I have a DS418j, not the most advanced or expensive model. It is important to note that I went into this as a completely clueless person.
I never used Git via console commands. My knowledge of Git was generally very limited. Even at the end of all this, I still BARELY know how to set up a repository and interact with it.
I had no idea what LFS even really does.
I only had very rudimentary knowledge of how to operate my NAS via its user interface.
I never interacted with a Linux console before. It turned out that I would be doing that a lot.
A Walk in the Park?
At first, everything seemed pretty straightforward, to be honest. I googled the simple task of setting up Git on a Synology NAS. The first result was already pretty helpful.
It seemed like all I had to do was set up a new user on my NAS ("gituser"), also install the available "Git Server" from the NAS's user interface. And "WebDAV", another package that could be installed via the interface.
WebDAV, as I found out, was a key component in my journey. It was a bit of a struggle to set up, but it appeared to be important in the process of connecting to my NAS via HTTPS. And probably other things that I still have no idea about. I didn't even know why I'm installing WebDAV in the first place, because I intended to use Git via SSH. Which another setting in my NAS would provide - the Terminal setting in the system settings. That's where I enabled SSH via port 22.
Well, my friend then told me that we cannot use LFS via SSH. Okay, I thought, that's what WebDAV is for, after all.
The Git Server had very few options, which seemed fishy to me. It literally only has one window where you set permissions for users. I gave gituser the permission to access it. That was that.
Of course I also needed a shared folder for our repositories ("git"). Creating that was not hard either. Here I noticed that gituser needs to be part of the "administrators" group for Git Server to work properly. But I could not remove it from the "users" group, so things got a bit fucky with permissions. I ended up giving both the administrators and users group a lot more permissions than I was comfortable with. But I trust my friend to not wreak havoc on my NAS for the time being.
So, everything was set up. Or so I thought.
Hitting the first Bump in the Road
I was able to connect to my NAS via SSH only, but didn't think anything of it yet. Doing that, I used Sourcetree to create the first test repo. Went to the NAS interface, checked, it was there and looked good. I could push and pull files. Created a second repo, ran "git lfs install"... and it didn't work.
The lfs command was not known.
I quickly found out that... of course it could not be known. Other than github for example, my NAS did not have LFS pre-setup. So, I concluded, I had to go install LFS on my NAS.
...Easier said than done.
While it does support a console with most regular Linux commands... a package manager is not included. At least none that is easily accessible, or supports any common packages.
At this point I figured "Why deal with this myself?" and contacted Synology support. I asked them "how can I set up Git LFS on my NAS?"
And Synology Support said:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They told me they do not offer support for the console. They said I should go ask the community. Okay.
I did not ask the community, but I did a lot of googling and found out: I could not "just install" LFS. I had to get creative.
We heard you like package managers?
First, I figured out that I need to be able to use the "curl" command. All the binary files on LFS's package cloud were binaries that were apparently downloadable with curl. I did not know what curl was... but I knew I needed to get it working.
I found out that for curl to work, I needed to install PHP on my NAS. Luckily, that was possible via Synology's included package manager. But for PHP to DO anything, I also had to install the "Web Station" and configure my PHP version there. I figured... might as well!
After enabling a couple PHP commands, I felt ready to download LFS. But the question was... which version? What even was my OS?
As it turns out, Synology uses a custom Linux version for their diskstations. Of course, LFS does not "officially" provide a package for that version. I tried the nodeJS version, because I noticed I also have nodeJS installed on my NAS. I ran into the version issue as well, unfortunately, when I tried to install the package through nodeJS. Not even changing my nodeJS version helped. Many hours later, I tried the .deb and .rpm files randomly instead of the nodeJS ones. Those also didn't want to work, despite me eventually figuring out how to lie to them about which OS I'm using.
I was almost ready to give up at that point. I was at least 3 full days into my odyssey already.
But then I spotted something else... A thing called "GoLang". Apparently, it would be possible to download LFS via GoLang. However, to do that, I of course needed to get Go first.
An initial search got me on track to "ipkg", which promised to enable me to install Go. But after reading up on it a bit, it looked woefully outdated. I had it already downloaded and was about to install, but ran into errors and trouble again.
That was when I found "Entware". It's similar to ipkg, but uses "opkg", a similar package manager. I was able to install Entware on my NAS without much trouble, and it contained the Go package that I needed so direly.
While I was at it, I also installed the available "git" and "git-http" packages from opkg, just to make sure. Who knew if they'd come in handy. I don't know if they did, but they also didn't seem to cause any harm.
Now, with Go installed (which went surprisingly smoothly), I was able to access just about anything on the internet and install it on my NAS! Hallelujah!
But if you thought it was over... just look at the scrollbar.
The end of my odyssey was finally in sight. I thought that nothing could go wrong anymore, now! With the help of Go, I was able to install the LFS binary. I was able to run it in my console, too. I was finally able to run "git lfs install".
...and it didn't help.
I got a bunch of errors, again. Instead of getting closer to the solution, it seemed like I just managed to find more obscure errors. Here the important thing about the SSH came in, as well. LFS does not like SSH, from what I found out. But SSH was the only way for me to connect to my NAS from my PC!
In a fury of looking up stuff again, I found the "DDNS" option on my NAS. That would allow me to get a hostname and use it like a normal website address! I kinda rushed through the setup because I had no idea what I was doing.
Well, whatever I did, it seemed to be sufficient. My friend could now connect to my NAS over her Sourcetree client. But when she tried to upload LFS objects, it just didn't work. She got a "404" error.
It wasn't hard to figure out that 404 meant no access in this case - my NAS was simply refusing to show any directory to someone who doesn't have access to it. Cue a long journey into my NAS's interface to make sure the gituser had the right permissions. I also changed the password because I read something about WebDAV being particular about some passwords. I also made a new user to see if maybe I just messed up setting up gituser.
To test if I was making any progress, my friend and I tried to access my NAS via our web browsers. But no matter what we tried, no matter what I tried, we couldn't access. 403 Forbidden or 404 Not Found. Those were the results. I couldn't even access if I used my admin account.
I tried to hack my way into pushing anyway, and only ended up corrupting our repo's history with "missing" and "broken" files because they were never properly uploaded, but LFS thought they were.
It should be noted that I had just accepted that HTTPS won't let me connect on my PC. So I had set up a hotspot for my mobile internet via my phone and used my laptop to do these things. I was in denial about eventually having to fix this, because I'm on a tight data plan on mobile and uploading and downloading Unity projects of several GB size wasn't going to happen that way.
Synology Support to the Rescue! ...Or?
It seemed like we had finally narrowed down the issue with our LFS upload attempts when I also checked the WebDAV console and it reported that it denied our login attempts through browser and Sourcetree as an "authorization failure". So something was wrong with WebDAV.
I contacted Synology support a second time. I asked them, "Why can't my friend and I connect to my NAS via the internet when I have WebDAV enabled and everything port forwarded?"
And Synology Support said:
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They told me WebDAV and web browsers don't use the same HTTP and HTTPS methods. They are simply not compatible. They told me I should download their WebDAV client or connect locally.
So it was known from the start that what I was attempting could never work... but it was also not mentioned anywhere on the web or Synology's help pages that this was the case.
We have a saying in Austria: "jemanden deppert sterben lassen". It translates to "to let someone die stupid". Essentially, it means that you have information and you watch someone else without this information struggle without ever telling them about it voluntarily. I felt this saying was very appropriate for my situation.
Time to give up, I guess... Except I didn't.
I was almost a week into my odyssey by now. Maybe it's a sunk-cost-fallacy, but I couldn't abandon all my work now. I refused.
A Light at the End of the Tunnel
I went back to open another browser tab (my average was 20 open tabs during this... normally it's 2 to 3). And I searched for a solution that works with WebDAV. And truly... there was ONE repo online that offered it.
A special thanks goes out to this fellow: https://github.com/mpotthoff/git-lfs-webdav
They straight up saved our project from collapsing into a pile of tears and rage. I installed this package on my NAS, which... sort of worked. It turned out I needed to install it locally (as well?). So I did. But I needed to install Git, LFS, and Go on my local PC as well for that.
So with the help of Go, I built an exe file for my laptop, which then gave me a 401 when trying to push to LFS. Luckily I expected that. And I was overjoyed, because FINALLY a different error.
I tried to run the steps in the git-lfs-webdav repo to fix it... but got a strange error in the console.
It cried, when trying to enter my username, that the "handle" for the password was wrong. But I hadn't even entered the password yet! Searching some more on the internet gave me no conclusive answer. Randomly, I tried a different console - my Sourcetree console apparently runs "MINGW32" while my Git console runs "MINGW64". Switching to the Git console fixed this problem for me, and switching to the Windows shell fixed it for my friend.
And then, it finally worked for my friend.
She could upload a test image via LFS, and I could receive it via LFS on my laptop.
The rest was me calling my internet provider about my PC being unable to connect. The internet provider said ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Luckily I did not attempt to mess with my DNS or Subnet Mask or anything of the sort, or buy a VPN/Proxy. All I had to do was create a self-signed SSL certificate on my NAS, download it, and feed it into my PC's trusted authorities files. My friend had to download and feed it too.
In Summary...
This was a horrible, terrible, awful journey. I would not recommend attempting this at home to anyone.
Even now, what we've got going on only sort-of works with our Unity project, because Unity is... Unity. We're still figuring out the details, for example why scene content is going missing and so on.
But I believe that the worst and most difficult part is over. Will I be able to recreate this in a year or two, maybe for a different repo, on a different PC?
Probably not.

Hi professor! As a research student with a porygon partner, I was curious about your lab's rotom and how it deals with outside software. I know it isn't like porygon, where you download a program directly to it, but do rotom inhabiting computers ever show a predeliction for certain programs over others? I know lots of porygon have preferences for specific kinds of software and I'd like to know if rotom are similar.
Hmm, well, I think the biggest difference is that Rotom tend to be a bit mischievous. I’ve met a few that take their pranks too far, such as downloading malware, but most are more likely to pop out of their electronics and scare you, or vacuum up one of your socks on purpose!
The Rotom I have that helps run my Lab is mischievous too, of course, but knows how important our work is, so they, luckily, tend to keep any pranks for when we have excess time on our hands. For example, last week they played the same song on loop from different devices for hours! I was following that sound around for near an hour before I figured it out!
The upside, however, is that Rotom don’t really have much of a preference. I personally think this is because they work almost like an ‘upgrade’ to whatever electronic they’re currently possessing. Basically, they can bring certain programs over from one device to another, provided each device has the ability to use it! For example, the washing machine could potentially play music because it has a speaker, but couldn’t make a call to my phone.
We don’t often have to use outside software, and when we do, its generally created by a close friend of mine that gave me the Rotom to start with, so it’s a pretty smooth transition to new things, since they only really have to use one programmer’s style of work! When I do end up needing something else, however, like a new poketch or the like, I do try to talk to Rotom beforehand, and know what new criteria to look out for.
I don’t know if this expands onto all Rotom, but it does seem that mine tends to prefer fast technology to simple technology. They’d rather sort through piles of data and fix it up themselves with everything running quickly than have to sort through nothing and have things run slower.
The other nice thing is that once a Rotom learns a program, much like a Porygon, they tend to know it forever, unless something gets corrupted or they become ill and delete files. The difference here is that while Porygon you can directly download to, as you mentioned, Rotom need to possess something that already has that program and use it for a while to learn it! It’s not an issue for me since I rarely change my technology if I can avoid it, and use much the same programs, but I do know its why you can’t just send the Rotom in your phone to receive an upgrade; you have to directly put it into the device itself.

What a day!: A oodle-lolly golly what a day revisited.
This is a short story of two unlikely heroes that rose from the injustice of the Alfonso Mafia that rules almost all of the underworld and Black market of the Chicago City streets. (Guitar playing)
One was from the suburbs of Chicago. The other was blown in from the northern country a couple years back.
And this is just one moment that might have happened. Had happened. Or whatever.
Two guys walked together in a quiet, normal park on one spring day.
The smaller one was Felix Lockheart, the underdog, detective hero of the Chicago Police. He was the innocent people's last hope against the criminals and those who knew the mafia well, the Alfonso mafia. He was a single parent-like uncle to his nephews after a tragic accident of his father and sister. He was a well respected police officer in his own rights with his special skills and his good manners.
The other one, who he was a tall but a bit intimidating, was Sammuel Toutsaint. Also known as Sam Toucan for shorts. He was an unusual man who he had served in the WW2 before he became a full pledge attorney after it ended. Despite he was much suited to be a prosecutor, he changed to defense due to the fact that... there was too many prosecutors in Chicago and that they'll hire anybody who wanted to be a defense attorney... So he took the defense position and got the job.
He was a honest but er... 'unfiltered' type of person who doesn't beat around the bush when he wanted to say something. He does however kept it minimum if there's kids involved or around. He was actually grew found of Felix after their first case working together and gave him hope again for justice to his innocent clients.
Felix Cat and Sam Toucan walking through the park path. Laughing back and forth at what the other has to say.
As I've said it, it was a bright spring day when they're out walking the park. There might be some snow here and there, but it had cleared up quite a bit to enjoy the trails. They both agreed to take this opportunity to get some fresh, spring air after a long, cold winter from inside. After all, even these coffee buddies wanted to go out once in a while to clear their thoughts.
“What a beautiful, blue sky! I can almost see the tulips popping out of my imagination and ready to be planted on these grounds. At least today it might be peaceful for once.” Felix hoped with his arms stretched out and put behind his head. He was feeling quite good today.
“As long as you 'imagine' those lettuce you'd promise to pick up from the grocery store for Kitty, mon amie.” Sam reminded him with his hands in his pockets. His legs were almost just as long as Felix's height so his little friend sometimes needed to pick up the pace.
Reminiscing that time while having a good one with lolly, lolly, golly what a day!
“I'm surprised to see you've dressed properly for the season.” Felix complimented Sam who had on his navy blue overcoat that was meant for his job, but he'd normally use it for spring/fall coat.“Pourquoi?” He asked in french.
“Because I think you've 'intimidated' the other rival lawyers in mid-winter when you've showed up in your Hawaiian shirts and cargo shorts. Outside. With a tropical drink in your hands.” He recalls on those times he caught him wearing them to meet him. “I get that you're almost like cold resisting type, but please! Don't scare EVERYbody away like that.” He then got a bit concern and tried his best to be reasonable with Sam.
He knew that despite his friend's... unusual antics and behaviors, he was a very successful lawyer and one of the few who remains 'untouched' by the corrupted system and out of any rich influential and political payrolls pockets. If Felix haven't asked that one question about his reason of why he became a lawyer that one time, before he knew him better, he would have mistaken him for a grumpy thirty three year old man with a suit and tie.
“It's for keeping stupid bulls!t out of my request files for 'real' issues, not cause your partner forgot to go to a dinner date you've promised one time and you wanted a divorce.” As much as Sam might seem rude at one point, Felix knows he's telling the common sense truth. He can tell even without his 'special' talent.
Never, ever thinking there was danger in the bushed while they're were talking and just walking on by!
Felix then noticed a warning sing from Sam's eyes. He noticed that his dark blue eyes were glaring at a large brick wall on his left. He knew that look as if to say: 'that seems suspiciously dangerous!' He knew him well enough that if he sees or sense something off, be on your guard!
Never dreaming that the scheming Dancing Demon and his Big Bad Wolf was waiting for them for a surprising hit n' run!
Sam slowed down and then took out from his jacket some sort of a small jam bottle with a very unusual blend of liquids that looks like some kid had thrown in various mix of beverages. “Let's see if this works.” As soon as he opened the lid, Felix can smell the horrendous stench from it, but he kept his straight face on. He sees Sam lean a bit of his arm back like he was about to scoop something and then in a blink of an eye, he threw it right over the brick wall from their left. It didn't even took one second to hear some screams.
“RUN FOR IT!” Sam shouted as he picks up Felix from his right arms and ran to the direction they've just came from.
Felix Cat and Sam Toucan running through the park path, then on the grassy and snowy patch, passing behind trees.
Despite that spring is around the corner, there was still big snow banks in the area. One that can leap over a tall brick wall. Sam took this opportunity to step on only the grassy area and tries not to leave any tracks on the snow. He than halted from the wall, he then lift Felix up to the edge first for him to escape and in return, Felix used his whip belt that his late father made to help Sam climb over the wall. They finally manage to escape from whoever they were.
Contemplating, nothing but escaping and finally making out, good a little, lolly, lolly, golly what a day!
Once they've stepped on the other side they were back in the city's edge. There was tall buildings and streets. People every where for the afternoon outing and they were only, surprise surprise, nest to one of Bendy's signature cars only the social elites haves. Felix quickly tugged Sam's sleeves and pointed to the nearest car that was parked close to them. “I think they might be coming after us very shortly after that happened!” Whatever Sam have thrown on them, it's stench was so foul that he knew that Bendy would abandoned the whole 'fun time' thing.
They've his behind the yellow car that was behind Bendy's just as they heard them coming from the park, infuriated. “Those two weirdos! Especially that *cough! * lamp post, Elvis dorky, rude mannered, colour blinded tie wearing *cough! * dodo!” Bendy coughed as he let out a disgusted sound as he tried to sniff, but the stench of whatever Sam threw, was really unpleasant even from where they were hiding. “Don't worry, Bendy, we'll get them next time. That Toucan guy was prepared for us in this round, but nobody will be that lucky forever. * COUGH! COUGH!* gosh! What did he threw?!” Boris complimented as he coughed it too while he helped Bendy in the car and then he goes to the driver's seat.
Good a little, lolly, lolly, golly what a day!
As soon as the DeMon's signature luxury car was out of sight, they came out of their hiding. Felix called out to Sam. “Don't take this the wrong way, but you've been taking too many chances like that lately.” Sam Tsked. “You think mines are daring? You should have seen what Bendy's been up to with the more influential circles. The documents I found hidden in their files doesn't lie. He's trying to buy or blackmail more juries. But luckily for us, I did manage to 'fix' it as if he never did.” Sam happily smirked at his handy works.
Felix sighed in frustrations. “I'm sorry that you had to put more work like that. I wish I can do it myself but somehow... I'm still being held back for 'law' reasons. By that, I mean I'm almost restricted to aristocrats' self-entitled rights on properties and possessions unless they played a serious role of a crime. It's not a big issue, but they do seems to have an upper hand on some things just save a face or two.” I'm not saying all upper classes are like that, but there are those who would take advantage of rich privileges to an extend.
“Ces't vrai, but don't fret too much, mon amie. No matter how high and mighty they act, they are germs like the rest of us. They are humans and they make mistakes too. One of these days, their 'perfect' system will collapse like a house of cards.” Sam tried to assure Felix.
“Thanks, Sam. I knew you're not the type who'd cheer people up like that, but I appreciate it.” Felix smiled.
“Who was responsible for that? Eh bien! There's a local groceries store. Let's get that lettuce before we'll forget that.” Sam pointed out the way across the street in a cheerful manner. That got Felix attention when he mentioned an ingredient. “Hey speaking of ingredients, what WAS that stuff you've just thrown on them?” It was a particularly have a really strong unpleasant odor, but he knew that his friend has sometimes had some... different methods of handling things. Not to mention that Sam has rarely shown his optimistic side apart from his kids... unless it was a mischievous idea.
“Nothing really serious. I learn it from those bunch of kids that hangs around the Joey Drew Studios on their 'Free Hands' protests. You might be surprise how easy it is to get those ingredients.”
“Sam...” I used my tone of voice that I use when I say to my kids when they're not telling me something. Like he's hiding something or not telling me the 'whole' truth.
He held his hands up before we can get inside as to protest and defend himself. “It is nothing serious, Félix, It was just a ecologic friendly gas bomb.”
That made him jumped a bit and stuttered. “What the-?! What do you mean by that?! Are you trying to-Mmh!” HE then got muffled by Sam's hand clapping on his mouth. His tall friend then gave a hush sing language. “You're gonna replace the police siren if you keep out-bursting like that and before you open your mouth like that, no, it's nothing serious like that. This is a city not Europe from the war a few years back. The only differences is that the stuff it was made is to irritate the eyes and leaves a really unpleasant smell. They're lucky enough to hold out their tears long enough to not cry in public. It does take some time before the effect wore off so there's no harm.” He then smirked again at his genius strategy.
But Felix wasn't pleased and then removed Sam's hand, talking with his indoor voice as they went inside. “Well, you'd better not make a habit of doing that or else Bendy's gonna have to think of a counter measure. We've seen him extort some er... 'quality goods' from his connections and has multiple ways of how to 'take care' of certain people who are... not agreeing with him.” He was being careful of his words when they were looking for lettuce. He checks around the spacious but small store for potential witnesses. As much as he wanted to bring down the Alfonso mafia along with Bendy, he knew that his public image was different from the people they hardly knew him well. Some were actually Bendy's eyes and ears and they are pretty good at camouflaging their appearances.
“He knows too well that he can't lay a finger on us in day time and that he can't have ALL the powerful people on his side. That would send a red flag to 'you know who' at the head of the states. The store is empty apart from the owner, Félix. She doesn't look like she's hearing us from the cashier.” Felix glanced at the old lady who she was reading the 'good book' while she waited patiently for us. She does seem harmless... and his 'senses' told him she doesn't have a malicious aura.
He took a deep breath. “The more we encounter them apart from his goonies, the more they're getting better. Even you'd be in hot waters if we're not careful enough. I felt like I'm not getting enough experience on the filed... But... I can't ignore my responsibilities as an uncle either.” As much as he want to pursue the horrible persons that has taken two of his most beloved family members and left them in pieces, he promised himself to be the one to take care of them like his father would have done and raise them with good characters. “Félix...” Sam asked him in a tone that would say 'are you alright? You sound depressed again.'
“Y-yeah! I'm alright! I'm just doing the best I can like you've said one time! It's getting late already. Why don't I meet you up again at your office before your next trial? It's at eleven this Friday, right? And do we still have our hard evidence to prove that the RiceKrispies brothers are innocents?” He immediately cheered himself up to avoid any pessimistic energy. He himself is getting enough as it is. Sam then decided to take up his subject as they were heading to the cashier. “They're safe as a hidden treasure in a pirate book. Only I can remember their locations. I just hope it's not Jerry this time, but if he is, at least I have my trusty side kick for the show that makes it less sucky!” He joked as he messed Felix's hair. “UAGH! SAM! I hate it when you do that!”
Ka-ching!
That sound surprised Felix and he realized that Sam had paid for both his lettuce and Sam's milk. “I needed that for tomorrow morning anyways. You're welcome.” He then leaves and Felix soon follows after his lettuce was bagged. “Sam! I told you you don't need to pay for me on anything! I don't want to rely on you like that!” Felix tried to reach for his wallet again but then Sam made a halt gesture. “You want to pay me back badly for a fifty cents lettuce? Then you'd better be at that trial on Friday. I will promise not to put 'something' on Jerry's seat if he's the one that shows up .”
That made him hesitate a bit. He knew his tall friend was famous as a high powered defense attorney to most people, but he also knew that sometimes in his trials, things get a bit... unusual to say the least. Not to mention he has 'the best seat in the house' next to him in front of the judges and juries.
It's not just the victim's, accuser's and the witnesses' reputation that's on the line...
But then again, he doesn't like to 'ask' people favors, including money. He knew better.
“Promise?” He decided to take the chance. Sam nodded and then they've retired for the day.
----Author’s notes-----
I hope you’ve enjoyed this mini one shot!
I’ve had a flash back of the earliest childhood memories of the animated Disney films of Robin Hood. I just imagined about how Felix and Sam is closely related to Robin and Little John. Both the hero of an unjust ruler! (In this case, the undertaker of Chicago, Bendy.)
One of the side notes, there IS a homemade remedy of tear gases, however, I DISCLAIMED ANY SOURCES CAUSE I DO NOT WISH TO IMPLY ANY FUTURE ATTEMPTS THAT WILL INSPIRE ANYONE! Please do NOT do this even if it’s safe! Just say no!
Next is the pricing, in the 50′s era, things like groceries were really cheap... Google it.
Hope this has entertained you for a bit.

Summer 2019 First Impressions
Hoo boy, three in a row, I think that’s a new record. Let’s just get right into it then.
Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-dono yo. (Maidens of the Savage Season): A high school literature club that actually reads literature, that’s a twist. The one issue with this is that a lot of literature has sex, and not all the girls of the club are particularly comfortable with sex yet. Those readings then cause those girls to become hypersensitive to sex and innuendos in the world and it looks like the show will be dealing with how they all deal with this.
Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou (Arifureta: From Commonplace to the World’s Strongest): Watching the descent into madness of a character generally takes a while, but in this show the main character snapped minutes after the point in time the show starts at, excluding a few flashback ranging from 10 minutes to 10 days back. Part of this included him eating monsters in the dungeon he was trapped in, which luckily granted him a bunch of strength and abilities. There was a lot going on, but overall I am cautiously putting this in the “so dumb it’s funny” category.
Bem: After getting sent to the seedier half of a city due to not getting along with her superiors, the main character proceeds to keep annoying her superiors with her dedication to justice, just in a more corrupt place. While trying to do her job, a water monster that’d been killing people throughout the episode appears before her. In addition a man who had helped her previously also shows up, and it turns out he’s a monster too. This looks like it will be two forms of justice, neither fitting in with the world, working together to protect humanity.
Cop Craft: If you’re expecting a buddy cop style show just based off the name, you’d be about right. It’s in a fantasy setting, with aliens and fairies, but the main character loses his partner while they attempt to arrest fairy traffickers, and his replacement is an alien knight who has come to the city to save the fairy. Since the main character wants revenge on whoever took out his partner, their goals would seem to align, but a young girl who doesn’t know the world too well isn’t his ideal for a new partner in the job.
Dr. Stone: What starts out as a normal day of school ends with all of humanity petrified for millennia. After all the achievements of man crumble to the sands of time, two friends break out of their petrification and start working to rebuild all that had been lost. A lot of scientific processes are explained as the characters do them in the new world so there’s a decent amount of educational tidbits in addition to the plot.
Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? (How Heavy are Your Dumbbells? / How Many Kilograms are the Dumbbells that You Lift?): Edutainment anime have hit many topics, but this time we’re learning about working out, mainly focused on weightlifting. The main character joins a gym due to putting on a bit of weight and is joined by a muscle obsessed classmate and they are taught various lifting techniques by one of the trainers of the gym, who has the face of a prince and a body of unparalleled strength. It looks even better than I expected, with a lot of detail put into the workouts.
Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II (Is it Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? / Is it Wrong That I Want to Meet You in a Dungeon 2?): Oh god the blue ribbon dress is gonna be all over the internet again.
Enen no Shouboutai (Fire Force): In a world where immolation has risen to the top cause of death, fire fighters play an even more important role in saving lives than usual. The only problem is that many of these deaths are caused by Spontaneous Human Combustion, which sends the afflicted into a berserk state while being on fire. That’s where the Fire Force comes into play, a specialized hybrid of fire fighters and the military, laying these afflicted souls to rest, often with unique fire abilities of their own. This first episode introduces the main character and the company he just joined with a trial by fire.
Ensemble Stars!: It’s an adaption of a male idol mobile game, so as expected the “main character” is supposed to be the player / viewer, which means she doesn’t get many opportunities to speak while all the other characters speak at her. The actual plot of the show looks to be an underdog uprising at a school with a fairly strict hierarchy system. As usual for mobile game adaptions, there’s a ton of characters, with a main unit of about 4 guys that the show will probably follow.
given: While trying to get to his favorite nap spot, the main character finds another guy with a broken guitar. After fixing it with the tools he had due to also being a guitarist, this other guy ends up following him around asking for guitar lessons, and while it never happened in the first episode, I’m willing to bet those lessons are coming soon. The background music is especially noticeable in this show, and it’s pretty good too, if not always fitting for the scene in my opinion.
Granbelm: When a high school girl gets sucked into another world for a monthly mecha fight for a yet explained title, she’s a little confused. She ends up teaming up with another girl in this world, since a lot of the other pilots tried to capture her since she got here. After an explanation and a quick mecha summoning scene, she’s ready to fight, and fight she does. The first episode eschewed a major exposition dump, instead showing off a decent amount of fighting, which looked pretty good overall, so I’m definitely checking into at least one more episode to figure out what’s going on.
Hakata Mentai! Pirikarako-chan (Hakata Pollock Roe! Pirikarako): It’s a short for young kids, and it’s about food fairies, which is about all I got from the 3 minutes of the first episode.
Isekai Cheat Majutsushi (Isekai Cheat Magician): The premise is pretty standard for the isekai genre but this time it’s two friends who are brought to another world together. This episode was just exposition and a quick look to the future, both explaining how overpowered the main characters’ magic abilities are (almost like they’re cheating, hahah). In addition it just looks pretty bad, the animation generally looks to be missing a few frames of animation and tries to not have multiple things moving at any given time.
Joshikousei no Mudazukai (Wasteful Days of High School Girls): It’s just a class of high school kids, at an all girls school, trying to live their lives. Most of the characters seemed pretty unique, only a couple that seemed to rely heavily on tropes so far, and the comedy hit hard a couple times. A solid start, and I’ll be testing at least another episode to see how well it keeps up.
Kanata no Astra (Astra Lost in Space): What starts out as a sci-fi high school field trip / challenge turns into a full fledged survival disaster when the group gets warped from a deserted planet near civilization to just offworld of another planet months away from where they should be. Survival in space isn’t as common as I’d like it to be, and this is giving off some Apollo 13 vibes, which I love, and I trust Studio Lerche to make it look good, as it has through this first double length episode.
Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san 2 (Skilled Teaser Takagi-san 2): I wasn’t really a fan of the master of teasing in the first season, so that carries through to this season.
Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e (To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts): During a civil war, the losing side turns to human experimentation to create super soldiers, and is successful. These soldiers are turned into hybrids with supernatural strengths and abilities, and using these powers, force the civil war to an end. The downside of these powers unfortunately has been manifesting in the soldiers throughout the war, eroding the minds of the soldiers and causing them to lose control of their abilities. The anime and manga start off completely differently, with the former showing all of the above and the latter briefly describing it, which kinda changes the monster of the week format by introducing all the “monsters” as friends of one of the main characters before starting the main plot, as episode 2 looks like it will start where chapter 1 did.
Kawaiikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka? (Would You Love a Pervert as Long as She’s Cute?): First off, I have mixed feelings with the title, as it kind of spoils the main plot twist of the first episode. The main plot so far is that the main character has received an anonymous love letter from one of his clubmates, with a pair of panties attached, and is trying to figure out who sent it. The show already is hurtling towards a harem of girls with mid-level fetishes, with petplay already on the list. In general the lighting of a lot of the scenes also felt weird, a bit too bright a lot of the time, with some odd splotches of color.
Kochouki: Wakaki Nobunaga (Gorgeous Butterfly: Young Nobunaga): Nobunaga is a popular main character choice for anime, and not always for the historical setting. Though this show looks like it will be focusing on a younger Nobunaga, before many of his military accomplishments, starting during his childhood and getting to his 14th birthday, by the end of the episode. I want to say this is going to be historical fiction, but since they put a time skip right at the end of the episode, I can’t tell if this one was just for character introductions, or was also tone setting.
Lord El-Melloi II no Jikenbo: “Rail Zeppelin” Grace Note (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files: “Rail Zeppelin” Grace Note): Another side story of the Fate/ series that follows one of the characters from Fate/Zero after the events of that series. There’s an episode 0 for this that I feel embodies more of what the show will be about than the episode 1, which gives the viewer context of how the main character got from the end of his role in Zero to the beginning of this series. The magic system of the series is pretty interesting, and exploring it in a more mystery fashion than action is promising. I think this will be a lot like other Fate/ spin-offs, where you can watch it without prior knowledge of the series, but it helps to know when certain events are referenced.
Machikado Mazoku (Demon Girl on the Street Corner): This is the opposite of a magical girl show, where we follow a girl who has just gained the powers of a demons, who needs to sacrifice a magical girl to become stronger. The main issue is that she is overwhelmingly unfit to do so, and the local magical girl has significantly more experience doing her job. The show is overloaded with sound effects and onomatopoeias on screen which can get a bit confusing depending on how it’s subtitled.
Maou-sama, Retry! (Demon Lord, Retry!): Pretty much the only creative thing I noticed while watching this was the protagonist’s facial structure, everything else feels like it could be traced to some other isekai show. Guy gets sent into game world that he made as his character, saves a girl from a demon, girl joins party, guy heads off to major city, episode ends. The OP and ED hint at modern technology involved with some shots of guns, but the bog standard plot so far and sub-par animation prevent me from spending any more time on this.
Naka no Hito Genome [Jikkyouchuu] (The Ones Within [Now Streaming]): A group of video game Let’s Players get kidnapped to an unknown location and are forced to participate in random events while being live streamed to somewhere. They’ve been told that they can’t leave until their game has gotten 100,000,000 views and have been indirectly threatened with death upon failure to do so, and as a possibility of the events. There’s some awkward visual and sound effects so far, but I’m intrigued enough by the premise to continue watching.
Odoru Mowai-kun (Dance, Mowai): A short about a Moai head that gains arms and starts dancing, which is difficult to find online.
Re:Stage! Dream Days♪: The show plowed through a significant a significant tropes so far, with a transfer student living in the shadow of her sister saving a dying school club by joining, and all of this as one character’s reason and conflicts for joining an idol club. On the other hand, the rock band showcased and non-CGI dance routine tell me that the team behind it are willing to put in effort towards making the show good.
SD Gundam World: Sangoku Souketsuden (Chibi Gundam World: Three Kingdoms Origins): It’s related to another SD Gundam series, and will be out soon. I’m not sure it’s worth updating this entry when it comes out, being a sequel.
Senki Zesshou Symphogear XV: I actually want to watch Symphogear but there’s just so many anime always.
Sounan Desu Ka? (Is that So? / Are You Lost?): 4 high school girls, stuck together on an island with only the shirts on their backs and various fields of knowledge and expertise. Fortunately one of them grew up with a survival nut father, so their chances of not dying is higher than your average group. It got a little lewd at points, but overall I liked the practical approach taken so far for surviving together.
Star Mu 3: Season 3? Of a boy band anime? HA.
Tejina-senpai (Upperclassman Magician / Magical Sempai): Due to his school requiring students to join at least one club, the point of view character finds himself checking out the magic club. The only member there is practicing, but as soon as she notices that she’s got a visitor, she goes through a short routine, flubbing every trick spectacularly. The anime seemed to downplay an important fact a bit in the first episode, which is that the upperclassman is actually great at magic tricks, as long as the audience isn’t larger than 0.
Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator (A Certain Scientific Accelerator): I have read some of the A Certain series, I have watched some of it, I know the main character of this series. I don’t think that’s enough to be able to watch this and understand what’s going on.
Tsujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaa-san Desu ka? (Do you Like Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks?): The most inspired isekai of the season in my opinion, as it’s not the main character who’s overpowered, it’s his mom, who got brought into a video game world with him. There’s a decent amount of jokes about video games and the betas for them and going on an adventure with a parent is pretty rare. I’m just worried about how it’ll be handled, given that the OP and ED didn’t have any other guys besides the main character and that’s usually a red flag for harem business.
Try Knights: There’s still two more weeks until this starts, so this entry will be updated then.
Uchi no Ko no Tame Naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou mo Taoseru Kamo Shirenai (If it’s for My Daughter, I‘d Even Defeat a Demon Lord): While working on a quest in the forest, an adventurer happens upon a child all alone, and finds out that she’s a demon exile, thrown out with her dead father. Not wanting to leave a defenseless child to fend for herself in the forest, he brings her back to the tavern where he lives, and cares for her a bit, and they end up getting attached to each other. By the end of the episode, he decides to adopt her and raise her with the help of the tavern owners, leading the show to be a cute show about raising a child, probably.
Vinland Saga: The episode hooks you with a bit of action, and then transitions into daily viking life in Iceland. . It looks pretty slick overall, and from what I remember from the manga is that a lot of the future content will be leaning towards the action side of that.
Waresho! Warera! Shodobutsu AIgo Iinkai (I am! We are! Small Animal Protection Committee): Something about aliens traveling to Earth to save endangered animals. Unfortunately I can’t find any way to watch it, subbed or raw.
Yama Shibai 7 (Theater of Darkness 7): It’s still about Japanese ghost stories.
