Hello wish! I've followed you for a really long time (and have almost wondered for just as long):

What makes Rewind sans think differently of Hunter!Papyrus as opposed to being attracted to his own Pap? If it's still #fontcest, then why wasn't he simply interested in rewind!Papyrus too?

With lots of love for you and your characters (and hop I'm not too out of line with this ask) I anxiously await your response ^^'

The answer is very simple: Snares (Huntertales Papyrus) and Ghost (UndeRewind Papyrus) look and behave differently from each other. Even the universe they originally come from is very different in setting and tone.

To clarify this reasoning; I've always treated the same characters from different Undertale AUs (like Sans) as looking different from each other, even slightly, unless it's truly intended for them to look and act the same as the OGs by their creator. Unfortunately, skeletons don't have skin, hair or noses and what else to make them stand apart from each other like humans do, so it's the slight differences like facial bones, socket shape, height, bone color, soul/eyelight color and so on that count.

For example, when Rewind meets Underfell Papyrus for the first time in the 'Kill or Be Killed' fanfic, he didn't instantly think "this is my brother"; he didn't recognize him. Even after UF!Pap introduced himself as Papyrus, Rewind refused to believe him right away. It wasn't until UF!Sans popped into the scene that he started to doubt his own disbelief. Granted, this was the first time Rewind met an AU Papyrus, but it remained rare to find another Papyrus that looked exactly like Ghost during his journeys through the multiverse.

The truth of the matter is that I myself don't consider Rewind and Snares to be fontcest; they don't see each other as brothers, at all, and aren't reminded of their own brothers when looking at each other. But because they are technically a Sans and a Papyrus, other people will consider it as such (no matter that it is cross-AU) and that is why I label it as fontcest; so anyone can block/mute the tag/word and not see it if it bothers them. I do this mostly out of respect for people rather than the belief that this ship is true fontcest.

getting some thoughts down since i do really want to do some writing for reinald but idk when ill have the time to do it

probably (?) the first thing i want to write is more of a character study based around reinald gaining lucidity occasionally over the 300 years hes possessed and trapped in the mine. i want to work on this first to a) get a feel for how i want to write reinald but also b) get back into the swing of writing where Needing to Plan Plot isn't hanging over my head like the grim reaper skldjfnsjkf. i think this would probably be super fun to write, with a decent amount of body horror - nothing grotesque but the concept of an evil entity possessing your body and you occasionally having moments of clarity???? spooky ! and i love writing spooky

two other story ideas rolling around in my head. the one that is the least nebulous is writing something where azar is in the area looking for a contract and overhears a priest of the eternal fire talking about a witcher that was recently trapped in the mine. from here she would find a way to rescue him and help him kill the red miasmal. after that this is where i get murky on the direction i want to go in. which is probably because i need to figure out azar's personality a bit more but im thinking the dynamic would be grudging respect at first (grudging bc they butt heads <- bc i like to write this dynamic and for no other reason) that morphs into friendship and trust as they run into each other during various contracts throughout the years. i think eventually they would start regularly traveling together until they spend most of the year on the Path together <3 would eventually want there to be a big build up to feelings but i still need to figure out how i would wrap that story up but i like that idea! especially because it would be more snippets/vignettes that i could write !

the last idea is so vague it barely exists but i would like to also write a different story where someone who isnt a witcher overhears that reinald has been trapped in the mine and they help how they can! obviously would be limited since this character would not be a witcher but based on the notes i was reading this is probably fine bc reinald believed he could kill the red miasmal by himself if he could only make his potion. anyways maybe hes injured and maybe this character lets him stay in their home to heal and helps to take care of him how they can and maybe he stops in occasionally to visit. at first just to say hi but maybe they insist he stays on other occasions especially if he cant rent a room for a night somewhere else and it grows from thereeeeee

alternative branch on above idea (or secret fourth story idea) is that Geralt kills the red miasmal but Reinald's spirit never moves on. i love the idea of someone interacting with his spirit and forming an attachment that is doomed from the start just due to the fact that he is a spirit and cant "be there" for someone in the way that the living can :)

mx linux has this thing called Quick System Info which is a thing that you click and it gives you a bunch of information about your computer that people on the forums who are smarter than you can use to help you troubleshoot* whatever insane linux problem you're having, right. with a "copy for forum" button and everything. what kernel you have what graphics drivers you're running, stuff like that.

*side note / tone setter for this post: stuff like this is all the evidence you need that mx is The distro for people who are new here. they have put so much work into Tools For Getting Help it's insane. mint does not have this. ubuntu is a nightmare hellscape. etc.

they update their tools and default desktop stuff all the time & usually I don't pay a whole lot of attention to those updates (no matter how many times lightdm or whatever updates I still have the exact same problem with it. who cares. it at least almost never breaks a new thing; debian lifestyle) but today on a whim I ran QSI after it showed up as one of today's 2 entire Things There's A New Thing For and omfg. At some point they made it so in addition to the VERY SIMPLE window w/ the basic system information in it, it has a sidebar with like. EVERY LOG.

^ this is but a fraction. Every timeshift log it hasn't deleted yet (~3mo worth?!) is here. Normally I would have to Go Look Up where these are stored and Go Find Them and then open them in featherpad by fuckin right-clicking (because this OS treats .rpy files and .txt / no extension files as the same type of file and I need it to open .rpy files in vscodium more consistently than I need it to open .txt files in featherpad even though having every .txt file open in a fucking IDE when I space out and double-click it is like my worst adhd brain nightmare come to life) and this tool just

A. puts them all right in front of me, where

B. I can click them and they will SHOW UP in the main window, OR

C. check the checkboxes and then SAVE?? THEM??? TO A LOCATION OF MY CHOICE????? ALL AT ONCE?

but basically in whatever setting, the church has some sort of force that deals with dangers in secret and without remorse or mercy. They basically are just trained dolls, acting things, and they have no souls in their bodies so they just. don't have any kind of conscious about the murderous thing they do for the church and crown.

So this guy here who i still have to name died as a child and then ressurected, like most of the people, and then trained from childhood, this little working machine, this puppet.

And then he cut his strings. Something happened. He snapped. He realized what was taken from him. His life, his rest, whatever happens beyond.

He doesn't care about his soul, he doesn't care about how many lives he has to take, how many bridges he burns.

He only solely cares about revenge against the one who raised him (from the dead and as a tool). No remorse, only revenge.

Because there's no soul in his body, just some spell tying him here, he probably can't die and his body heals itself and regenerates. I imagine that his life is connected to the person that cast the spell to raise him -- and the only way he truly dies is if they do too. Which sounds like a win-win for him.

Bonus points if over the course of the story he starts getting little bits of his soul back by accident through some outwardly force and he starts feeling again and then he's double down resolved to end it because he doesn't want to feel. Any 'good dead' he does he waves of as just a calculated 'you can help me if you're dead' 'saving that child will get us on the good side of the village and they'll give us information' 'if I do this thing you're more willing to help me'.

Real villain that was doomed to never be a hero vibes.

had lots of weird creepy dreams last night, but the weirdest thing was that John Larroquette was there (once again) - he was his current age, I don't know how we knew each other but he was just there 🤷 and he kept pretending to be dead for some reason?! every time I'd start crying and screaming and someone would be like 'oh he's just pretending, he does that'
