Untitled artwork 7 is a few little designs I have for a post LU Legend, for a comic I may or may not get around to making…

He’s cut his hair short and his outfit has a lot less flair. This is because, well, I feel like he’d be very lost after the adventure with the chain, especially if it was his last. He might struggle with his sense of purpose (hence the outfit changes; he doesn’t feel like himself), and also would definitely miss the others a lot.

So he’s kinda a lil bit depressed, and has kinda retreated into himself a bit, pushing people (notably Ravio and his Zelda) away. He begins to dwell on Marin again, wishing he could go back to her, and has kinda fallen into a metaphorical hole.

If I ever do make the comic, this would be resolved, at least temporarily, but for now all I’ve really got is his design hehe

HELLO YOU HAVE TURNED ME INTO AN UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENE :DDDDD

Neopets is an online virtual world/pet simulator created in 1997 that is still going strong to this day (this surprises a lot of people who were familiar with it during its heyday in the 2000s and expected it to be defunct by now)! In it, you can adopt and care for creatures of fictional species and go on adventures with them. I for one have created backstories and lore for all my pets and will continue to do so as I acquire more.

There's a LOT of different styles of play in neopets: some people are really into customizing and dressing up their pets, some people want to conquer the battledome, some are quest chasers, and many are collectors of some sort. If you enjoy collecting things in any capacity, then neopets definitely has something that you would enjoy collecting! I'm mostly a plushie collector, but some people want to fill out their stamp pages for exclusive badges called avatars (there are many ways to get avatars and stamp collecting is just one of them), others want to read the most books to their pet (book club members), and some want to get the most rare and exotic foods from across neopia (gourmet food club members).

Others just want to win at capitalism.

That last thing is what sets neopets apart from other online pet games: the economy is almost entirely user-driven and responds to changes in market demand. This will either be your favorite feature as a player or your least favorite (I am finally winning at capitalism so I'm enjoying it). Players can amass large amounts of neopoints (the main in-game currency) to buy rare items, either for their aforementioned collections or some other goal. For example, my current goal is to get 10-12 million neopoints to buy a mutant acara transmogrification potion to turn one of my pets into a very cool mutant acara! I've incorporated that as a part of her lore and I'm very excited to make it happen :D. (This is not as many neopoints as it sounds like, but it is definitely a decent amount)

I'm really excited to be playing, especially since there's a new plot coming up! A plot is a story event in taking place in the world of neopia (fun fact: all plots take place in a semi-adjacent universe where the pets are more anthropomorphic and humans do not exist in any capacity. Most players tend to picture this as the default reality when playing!) Players are fairly certain that the upcoming plot is going to introduce a new paintbrush, which is a huge event.

Paintbrushes are used to change the color of a pet into new and fun designs! There hasn't been a new one in quite a while so the fan base is chomping at the bit to see it. For a more visual example, the picture higher up in the post is a mutant acara, a variation on the Acara that changes the body shape in addition to color. This is a regular blue acara:

Some paintbrushes are affordable, and some are very expensive to the point that a player will make saving up for it to be a major goal. It's good to have a goal to aim for in a game like this, so one should always find something difficult but achievable to work towards.

Well, apparently the US copyright for this breezy mid-60s piece of visual fluff expired, because I just found this great copy of it on Youtube. It is a 60s sexy comedy, goofy, but visually gorgeous and innovative in how each story is told in a classic movie style. I have seen this way too many times to count, and recall when it first came out, wanting to see it, but I was too young, since it was for "Mature Audiences." One of the perks of this film is that the brilliant, 8 Oscar winner Edith Head was allowed to go wild with some of the designs for talented actor Shirley MacLaine.

Here is a video someone put together with all of Head's outfits for the movie; there is another and several with specific outfits; this movie's costumes for MacLaine are legendary. The video, which has a cool, jazzy song, starts at 3:29 with my favorite outrageous look, but you can also watch the whole thing and see the all black mourning outfit MacLaine wears in the film's opening and throughout.:

BTW, Moss Mabry also worked on the film's costume designs and shared the Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design with Ms. Head. However, this was Head's movie. Here is Ms. Head's screen credit, early on in the film:

Interestingly, and rather gender traditional, Mabry's screen credit for "Men's Wardrobe" appears later, with a blue (traditionally male color in Western societies) background and in smaller print, shared with other of the film's tech crew:

BTW, the first time I saw it was at home on network TV in the later 60s, possibly on NBC Saturday Night at the Movies. And I saw it in B&W, not color, in the standard square-ish format TVs had at the time. Fell in love with this movie, which was a financial and popular success, but panned by critics.

I just still fucking love it and recommend it as good, if loud and excessive, fun.

Ok so design details

I know yall see that blue and yellow, and the green in the middle. All very intentional. The bed w/ the yellow blanket is Will's & the one w/ the blue blanket is Mike's. They sit on the rug when they're having their little heart-to-hearts that the rest of the party never seem to be a part of for "some reason"

Also, these boys wear a lot of fuckin stripes, so. Blue and yellow striped wallpaper? Green striped rug? Idk man it was screaming byler what can I say

And then there's a record player or whatever on the dresser between them, bc as we all know Will is a music guy and Mike lets Will do whatever he wants even if that means keeping him up listening to his favorite song all night bc he'd never forgive himself if Vecna somehow got Will bc Mike made him turn it off*

*So, to explain what that's all about: after his repeated failed attempts with Max, One went after Will next bc y'know, lots of trauma, easy target, etc (at least that's what the mf thought, I'm pretty sure Will lowkey has powers or smthn)

(This happened before the start of the au btw so it's just sort of background info, it might be mentioned but it won't be happening in present)

But anyway Will almost got Vecna'd and it was partially Mike's fault bc they got in a fight, Mike said smthn stupid and Will ran off, we know the drill (Mike still blames himself for it even tho they made up & Will forgave him and is fine)

Mike kinda lost his shit, honestly I'm thinking in his terror he pushed El too hard to save Will (when she was already doing her best obviously bc that's her brother) and that was part of why they broke up bc even El realized he cared more about Will than her- Mike is pretty much the only one who doesn't know yet lol

And they all survived obviously but now they're both kinda extra paranoid about it and even though they've moved far away and One hasn't followed them they still worry that some day he might track them down, so they fall into a (compulsive) habit of playing Will's favorite songs on repeat

(I'm not giving you his fav songs bc first of all I can't even decide my own fav song and also it just feels really presumptuous like that's too personal of a thing for me to decide for somebody else. I take music very seriously & very personally ok. Funnily enough tho I am listening to "should I stay or should I go" at this very moment)

Anywho, moving along

That desk by the door is mostly used for coming up with new campaigns they don't want the others to spoil (it's ok for their roommate to have insider knowledge that's not an unfair advantage or anything and besides it just can't be helped y'know? /s) no but they do collaborate sometimes and they work so well together as storytellers that the others find it lowkey unsettling (Dustin and Lucas are used to it tho)

Someone, not thinking I guess, makes an offhand joke about them being on the ground floor so they don't have to worry about Mike jumping out the window, and Will, who somehow hadn't ever actually heard the whole "quarry story," asks what that's supposed to mean and then they very awkwardly have to explain and he's basically like "oh my god what the hell that's not fucking funny why would you joke about that" and for a while after learning about it he's extra conscious of any self-deprecating/self-sacrificing type shit Mike says

Also they have "crazy together" written somewhere in the room no one else will see it. It's uncertain where, or whose idea it was, or why they did it, but they did. Probably to sort of make the room feel more like it was claimed as *theirs* after having to move to a new house far away from familiarity, and as a reminder to always be there for each other when times are tough

Journals

Zelda Hyrule Map Journal - Do not recommend. I spent a whole week trying to find the perfect Zelda themed journal and this one really fell flat. The pages are super thin so even my EnerGel Pens bleed through. The binding of the pages is also super weak and I've had to glue pages together and I am in constant fear of this journal completely falling apart T_T

Vivid Scribbles Journal - Recommend! Although the outside fabric cover isn't my favorite, it is a very strong journal. I purposefully spent time looking for a journal with thick/non-bleed pages, strong binding, and more than 100 pages. As a bonus it also comes with dotted pages to help organize the pages better and stickers (although they aren't the best). A good starter journal you don't have to worry about.

If you live in the EU, a preorder Nintendo Shop bonus for TOTK is a Zelda journal. I won't be able to own this and therefore can't rate it but if you really want a Zelda themed journal, there's an option!

Stickers

Legend of Zelda Sticker Book - Highly recommend! Has stickers for all of the 3D Zelda games and is perfect for journaling. The stickers don't have the best adhesive quality but they do stick well to journal paper.

Daiso Stickers - Highly Recommend! Daiso is a Japanese general store that can only be found in certain cities but if you have one near you I absolutely recommend visiting. They have most of my favorite journaling supplies and the largest selection of them too. Here are the ones that I use that are available online: Food and Rewards

Artist Stickers - Highly Recommend! Some of my absolute favorite stickers come from my favorite artists both from their online shops and from zines. Check out Etsy, Redbubble, or the artist's social media to find stickers that you like (and also support your faves)!

Sticky Notes/Background Paper

Daiso Sticky Notes - LOVE these. The colors are a lot more muted but nice. The paper itself is also very smooth so many adhesives do stick to it. I highly recommend if you live near a Daiso, if not here are the ones I use but online: Blue, Pink, and Yellow

Post It Notes (Marrakesh Collection) - I really like the bold color of these specific Post-It notes but I do have an issue with the paper quality. The paper is on the topside rough and only very strong adhesives adhere to it, sometimes the tape runners won't even adhere. The Zekda stickerbook Stickers won't even stick, they just fall off. So I love the colors but the quality of the paper itself is pretty frustrating, so just be cautious if you buy Post-It notes.

Color Palette Sticky - These are mini sticky notes in a specific color palette! This listing has multiple palettes as well, I personally just bought the palette linked. The paper is smooth so stickers and tape adhere well to it! They're a good purchase if you want more color diversity (or you need a good Zelda color palette lol).

Daiso Paper Sheets - A good color variety with medium sized sheets! I really like these. The colors are more pastel and come in the rainbow. The paper quality is similar to construction paper but smaller and thinner, so they are designed more for journals. Adhesives also stick well and they aren't as rough as Post-It Notes. I enjoy these!

I also have Mushroom Sticky Tabs from Daiso that aren't online (I also got them about a year ago so they might not be in stock). Here's a similar product from amazon. I haven't used them before so I cannot give my opinion on them but I wanted to give y'all an alternate if you like it!

Washi Tape

Daiso Washi Tape - Daiso has my all time favorite washi tape. The tape is very strong and has strong adhesive. They also have a really large selection of tape in store, however the online selection is very lacking. I highly recommend going to Daiso if you have one near you as they have my favorite stationary stock. Here's a few of the washi tape I have that I could find online (the rest isn't online): Rainbow Thin, White Lace, Wind Series, and Red

Michaels- The quality of the tape is not as good as Daiso (the tape is strong but the adhesive is weak) but they do have fun designs. The selection in stores is not great but they have a very large online selection. The specific blue and gold lantern recollections tape I use isn't online (I found it in store).

Gold Foil Cool Tones Washi Tape - Really nice!! The designs are absolutely gorgeous.; The adhesive could be stronger but it's not as much as a problem unless you're using it on top of the post-it (brand) sticky notes. I got these specifically for my Zelda journal and they fit the games super well!

Minimalist/Knit Washi Tape - I don't really like these. They're very transparent (which wasn't advertised) and I just don't like a lot of the designs. They have good tape and adhesive quality if you like the designs but they just aren't for me.

Washi Tape Dispenser Cutter - I'm a fan of these! There's many different types of tape dispensers so I recommend choosing the one that you like, these are the ones I liked after some searching. They cut your tape and all the dispensers stack on each other. They also hold between 5-14 tape rolls depending on size. If you plan on getting a collection of washi tape, dispensers or at least a container is a pretty good investment.

Journaling/Sticker Tweezers

Sizzix - Honestly any brand will do fine so long as you are looking for specific journal tweezers and not hygiene tweezers. I highly recommend getting them if you want to get into journaling or scrapbooking or even just have a sticker collection. They prevent you from damaging your stationary especially if they are hard to peel and you have more control of where you want to place things than with your fingers. They're also relatively cheap and they're very durable, the Sizzix brand works great!

Pens/Markers

EnerGel - I LOVE EnerGel. I have tested so many different pens in college and it wasn't until I graduated that I found the perfect pens LMAO. They write very smooth, they come in a really nice variety of colors, and they last a long time. They also don't bleed and very rarely skip, so the ink quality is really nice. I highly recommend them!

Tombow (Muted Palette)- I absolutely love these. They're water based markers and they do layer over themselves but the quality is really nice. I am also just a fan of the Tombow brand. I mostly have these for my sketchbooks rather than journaling but they are nice to use for my spreads. If you want to use markers similar to these but cheaper you can just use some reliable crayola markers!

Sharpie Metallic - I am a fan of these but you do have to take precaution with these. First they will bleed through most paper, only heavy weight paper (160gsm or more) will withstand it (although there is a shadow of bleed). Second, they MUST be stored upside down. If right-side up, the ink will flow to the bottom and your sharpie will appear dry when it still has full ink. They last a long time if taken care of properly so I do recommend!

Highlighters (Sharpie) - Good! They are just standard highlighters and any brand will probably work just as well as sharpie. If you have any from school I recommend just using those.

Adhesive Tape Runners

Tombow Adhesive Runner - Highly recommend! They are a bit pricey but they are very good quality. I rarely, if ever, have jamming issues and the tape works super well. If you're willing to splurge, I suggest them over Adtech. Here's the link to refills.

AdTech Adhesive Runner - Recommend. Cheaper than Tombow and they work but they definitely have more quality issues. The tape itself can jam frequently which was frustrating and the tape is more acidic so I could see the tape leave dark marks on my thinner journal paper. I only switched to Tombow because my local store ran out of Adtech so I got Tombow and just didn't look back but they are completely usable and fine. (I also haven't been able to find refills on amazon which is what also made me switch to Tombow)

Also as a note!! When ordering adhesive runners, make sure it says permanent as there are different types of runners (glue dots, temporary, permanent, archival, etc)

I will also edit this post if I get more materials.

ALSO MIGUEL. Miguel's motif reminds me a lot of Prowler's? like it lacks that sharp synth-y sound that Prowler has in his theme but the underlying sense of unease and danger is so similar. i think miguel is going to be a villain in the next movie tbh. he seems kind of... i dunno. like he's holding on too tightly and believes the only right way is his way?

anyway. loved seeing gwen assemble everyone in the end :) peter and mayday!!!! noir and peni !!!!!!! spiderham !!!!!! hobie and pavitr and spider-byte!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's going to be so fun in the next movie i think. and god i look forward to seeing noir and peni again i ADORE them

ANYWAY GWEN. I love her she's my most specialest girl ever. T Gwen is so real I can't believe there are people denying it???? The color palette and the way she talks about herself. There's a fucking TRANS FLAG IN HER ROOM and people are like "um she can have that flag because she's an ally not because she is trans" and I'm like. Amount of cis people I've met with trans flags in their room = 0. There are people saying that it's because Peter was the trans guy which I mean yeah, would make sense, but why not both. both is good.

Anyway Gwen's world is def my favorite, I love the aquarelle texture and how it's the world in which the color affects the environment the most. My favorite scene is the one where she confronts her dad, the way you can see her hair turning pink and blue and how at the end all the colors become warmer and GHHHFRFHR I love her so much.

Anyway I have a lot of thoughts I'm going to scream and cry. I kinda want a spiderverse theme but there are so many good images, I don't know what to use

Art on the Internet

This is a bit unrelated to what I typically post, but It's something that I was thinking about since writing a previous post about changing my phone screen.

I feel like I don't appreciate the art I see on the internet enough. I see so many amazing pieces each day, and understand that most took hours to create. With that said, I spend only a few seconds appreciating them. I typically try to retweet any really good piece I see so that I can scroll back through my twitter to look at them, but there are too many to look back on and lots of the time I end up forgetting about those I love most.

The thing that really sparked this was when I was choosing art for my phone background. I ended up going with one of my favorite pieces of art, so It was one I had "memorized," but while looking for potential alternatives I found two pieces that caused me to kinda worry about how I was failing to remember pieces I loved.

The first was a painting of Miku that was meant to be a rainy day design. Her hair is in buns, my favorite alternate Miku hairstyle, and she has lots of cute details. There are flowers and raindrops in her hair, and she has umbrella earrings and a cloud hairpin. She is wearing an adorable blue dress and a pink undershirt with a blue ribbon as a belt. The colors of this piece are wonderful and overall Miku looks very adorable in it. It is probably one of my favorite pieces of art ever...and I had completely forgotten about it. I now have it saved as an alternate wallpaper, but It makes me worry about all of the other pieces I've potentially forgotten about.

The second piece is pretty much the same story. It was a piece that I couldn't stop thinking about for a period of time, that just completely left my mind. It's a collection of small drawings of Miku in her Hanami Outfit (the one designed by Rella) in a bunch of cute poses. I remember obsessively going back to this piece to look at it over and over again for at least a week just a few months ago. I shared it with all of my friends and liked it about as much as the official artwork by Rella. Then, when I was actually thinking of pieces of art to use for my phone wallpaper, I didn't remember it at all. I only found it again because it randomly showed up in suggestions while I was looking through Rella's PIXIV.

These are some of my favorite pieces of art, and when I had the opportunity to appreciate them again they didn't even come to mind. So many other amazing pieces had filled up the one place I use to save art that I forgot about them. I've created an actual "wallpapers" album on my phone now to save pieces I like enough to want as wallpapers, so hopefully it doesn't happen again. Still, I can't help but worry about there being other amazing pieces I've forgotten about. I don't exactly have the time to scroll through every single one of my retweets, so unless I dedicate time to it, I'll probably rely on pieces I see in the future to have as wallpapers.

This isn't really the type of post I necessarily want to occupy this blog, and it ended up being way longer than I meant for it to be. I just appreciate being able to get these feelings out. Honestly, however, I wrote this because I've been queueing posts (great feature btw) and I've been on a daily streak since starting this blog, but only have the phone screen post queued right now. I definitely haven't run out of Miku related things I want to post, like I said, I have a long history of instagram story posts I would like to expand on, I'm just experiencing the thing I mentioned in my "Unpacking" post where I get a bit overstimulated by my emotions, even positive ones. I wrote most of my previous posts all on one day only briefly after my initial day of unpacking. I haven't been able to work up the motivation to do much else, and I'm going to be away from home for the next few days. Basically, I got overstimulated from the excitement of unpacking and being able to write here and I haven't quite "recovered," and on top of that I won't even be able to unpack for the next few days due to me being busy. Overall it has me a bit bummed. I definitely want to unpack all of my figures so that I can go ahead and arrange my shelves, and I also want to write about a bunch more stuff on here.

Again I've made a post that completely goes off topic. Can you tell I like writing? I'm using writing as a way to relax from writing and ending up writing way more than I initially intended. Moral of the story: Artists please frequently repost your artwork, I want to see it. Next I'll most likely write about some goods I ordered recently, or something completely random and off topic. Who knows.

i think the change in medium here is not really important, but i would like to note the first drawing is only about four inches across, while i now prefer to draw on large digital canvasses (and then i delete all my layers when i’m done bc my computer doesnt have space lol).

as far as design goes, i have obviously made their patterns more complicated than solid color/simple stripes. honestly my mental image of these characters has been informed by warriors youtube animations for a long long time so i have no recollection of what my mental image was of the characters when i first read Into the Wild, but they probably did have those simple designs in my mind. Nowadays i draw blue and fire with various different designs since i can’t pick a favorite way to depict them, but Bluestar does sometimes still have a simple solid gray coat and Firestar is sometimes just a ginger mackerel tabby.

In terms of art, 8-ish years of very frequent practice has certainly caused my technique to improve. The first thing that jumps out to me as a technical issue in the first drawing is Bluestar’s proportions (she needs more leg), but the second thing i notice is the line quality! this is an area i have worked very hard to improve in and i am rather proud of my progress! my linework when i was younger was very scratchy and lacked confidence, but now i can make smooth lines very quickly and accurately :)) also, the first drawing makes no use of fur as a texture or flowy moving object. i’m working on textures still (i really admire art that looks like you could reach out and touch it) but i’m definitely better than before!

Speaking terrible fashion in Omniverse.

Of all of Argit's criminal history, that outfit in Omniverse has got to be the biggest crime he's ever committed

Argit's jumpsuit is bad. Like really fucking bad in my opinion lmao

It's ugly, doesnt fit Argit's character at all, and worst of all there's too much fucking Orange!

(Sorry but Orange is my least favorite color by far. It's so fucking bright and I hate it)

Yes I know Argit wore an Orange jacket in UAF but that was at least counterbalanced by the Black T-shirt and dark Blue Jeans he wore. It felt balanced out instead of one big splotch of Orange.

And considering that Argit literally goes around stealing things, that would require him to be very steathy.

How the fuck can anyone be steathy wearing a jumpsuit that looks as bright as the mother fucking SUN?

Guess Argit's been taking his advice from Naruto it seems lmao .

Omniverse pick up a damn fashion book challenge! 😤

Yeah omniverse really did just increase the saturation, decrease mens’ hips, add random square patches everywhere, eat hot chip, and lie. Garment construction? Never heard of it!

Seriously what’s with the random squares everywhere- especially with argits clothes. He doesn’t have an ounce of square shape language in his blood! He’ll bend over backwards for just pennies a day! So what’s with all the square elements??? Typically little elements in a design are used to bring an intended shape to a character who’s body is not naturally shaped like that shape. For example, a skinny anime girl won’t have many natural circles on her body, so circular patches and jewelry will be used to convey those circle connotations. So why does angular edgy Argit need to wear so many square decals??? When has he ever been sturdy and reliable and strong???

Now I don’t personally mind orange, it reminds me of construction work which I like, but I do despise bright cyan. The only context I would have been okay with the color on Gwen’s stupid omniverse shirt would be if it was paired with a vivid crimson- such as the color of her uaf hair! But they didn’t! They made her hair orange, which is not how aging works btw. Plus cyan and crimson, especially if the cyan was a bit deeper, looks really good together in a grey setting- think of a colonial style house up in cloudy Maine. Red brick, blue shutters and trim, white paneling and grey skies… that could have made her look so nice in friedkin, so she could stand out like a cozy New England house in the fog rather than whatever the fuck was going on in omniverse. (Sorry I keep going back to Gwen, I’ll talk about Argit now)

Something I really like with uaf generally is the use of what I consider analogous saturations and values- rather than hues- and you can really see this in argits jacket and pants color combo, as well as his fur and hair colors. The fur and hair have the analogous/monochrome saturation but different values, and his coat and pants have complementary colors but equal saturation and analogous values. (This is getting admittedly nebulous and theoretical but bear with me lol) I think these muted colors all balance really well with each other and don’t tip the scales any one way- this lets him blend in with the backgrounds like you said anon.

In animation, I know that there is often a separate person assigned to the color, but the art director, djw, would have okayed the colors they chose, and he could have vetoed the ugly colors they chose!

I’ll be honest I do really love warm colors and hate cool colors, so I always prefer when bright colors are heavily saturated and cool colors are dulled down with grey, so I’ll admit I kind of like a bold slap in the face with orange. It reminds me of a fun weird haute couture runway look, and it reflects really well on dark brown skin- but Argit isn’t a runway model, he’s a sneaky little criminal man and it doesn’t make sense for him to wear bright orange unless he’s secretly trying to get peoples’ attention??

To start, have this Very Important picture of Marla and Tonbo being cute, since this is otherwise a very compressed post:

A handful of important things happen during Link's stay on Windfish Isle:

1. Marla ends up teaching Link how to swim.

"he was training you to be a child soldier and he didn't teach you how to swim?? TONBO this boy doesn't know how to swim!!"

"does seem like a problem if you need to breathe air," Tonbo says, sewing some floral shorts in Link's size.

There’s actually a lot of other little moments I have in mind; Link realizing he’s passed his seventeenth birthday while passed out, Marla asking what his favorite food is so they can celebrate and poor Link not knowing because he mainly subsisted on gruel and health potions, so she and Tonbo decide that he should try as many different things as possible, Link just getting to LIVE for a little while because nobody who’d have a problem with it knows where the hell he’s gotten off to.

2. Link has a moment of horror when Adventure Game things start happening, as he remembers that he left his sword at the Sky Temple Monastery.

Tonbo supplies him a new one from souvenirs his uncles have brought or sent (one of Tonbo's uncles, Torock, is a merchant, and another, Torik, runs the ferry to the mainland).

3. Link ends up fighting the first story boss outside of Astramorus's tutorial hell dungeon, and despite it being hard and the fact that he didn't want to do it....

It wasn't actually that bad? It wasn't actually as hard as dealing with Astramorus every day was, maybe even because he HASN'T been dealing with Astramorus every day.

so. songbirds actually comes in two different versions! songbirds blue and songbirds red. they have slightly different content and very different lore implications for the world! the intro text is pretty much the exact opposite.

can you guess which color rulebook I used as inspiration for linnet and which for kestrel. did it show in their color schemes at all.

here are the classes that inspired how linnet and kestrel’s specific songbird powers work btw !

they both work a bit differently than stated in the rules cuz. I am not actually playing the ttrpg I am just having fun.

on to just general things I like rather than linnet and kestrel specific things!

there’s so many different magic systems! gore arts, songs, tomes, draconic magic, demon hands, summons… they all work really differently from each other and provide so much cool layered flavor to the game.

that’s the thing that stands out the most I think, is the layers. songbirds is so many things. it’s a fantasy dungeon crawler with dragons, but it’s also a futuristic dystopia with psychics and body modifications that turn your arm into a gun. it’s a serious setting with so much political tension boiling in the background that you’ll have to read the book multiple times to interpret, but it’s also a deeply silly setting with magical sodas that release fifty penguins when you pop the tab.

a lot of ttrpgs want to be able to do so many things well, be applicable for all sorts of settings and tones, and few achieve it well imo. but songbirds, even played fully as written, is going to be So different depending on what you personally bring to it. it can be full of sadness, joy, and rage all at once, and it juggles those tones throughout the book pretty effortlessly.

it’s one of the few settings where I feel just about any character design would work, which is fun too. you could go in so many different directions aesthetically with just how many tools it gives you. a party of a fantasy knight, psychic cyborg, and Average Joe wearing Jeans wouldn’t really feel out of place here.

for. perhaps my favorite example of how interconnected and fun to read the rules are. on the first couple of pages you’re introduced to the character class options (called gifts/curses). and. one of them is just this.

what does that mean? is it up to you and the dm to decide? why does it have so little description compared to every other gift/curse? and then. you get over a hundred pages in. right near the end. and you see the description for the dragon enemy.

and you realize what that class could mean. and this is only one example of that out of dozens in the book. never before has a ttrpg rulebook been so fun to read for me. it’s like a constantly unfolding puzzle box, where each read through lets you learn more. some questions deliberately don’t have concrete answers too, allowing your table to make your own sort of take on the songbirds world, rather than it being set in stone.

anyways. reminder that songbirds blue is Free. (songbirds red costs a few bucks but it’s absolutely worth it to read both)

Umineko: When They Cry Review - Episode 0

Part 0: Notes

This post can't be as aesthetic as I would like due to only having a phone; however I'll make do with what I have. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read this; assuming you read my info on the header of my blog page, you should also know my dream is to be an author...and that takes me here, to Umineko and the WTC series in general. I finished reading the Umineko Visual Novel, and have watched the Higurashi Anime, and I plan to read the Manga for Higurashi soon.

The following posts will be about my thoughts, experience, and love for WTC, however this post 0 will be about WTC in general, along with miscallenous things.

Needless to say, SPOILERS!!!

Part 1: When They Cry

My first experience with the series was years ago, when I was a child; and coming across some of the more gorey scenes from Higurashi on youtube, I was curious yet I never persued more of this media. Years went by and it remained nothing more than a afterthought in the back of my head, however, a friendgroup who was big into Higurashi made me watch the anime, and I decided on my own to read the Umineko novel, and since then...I've been very into the fandom for a few months.

I took two months to finish the Umineko VN...

And as you can tell, some days I read very generously. That being said however, it was all time well spent.

Ryukishi's writing has become an inspiration and something I think about greatly, his ability for creating and characterizing his characters in both dynamic and subtle ways has stuck out to me, as well as how he handles abuse and sensitive topics authors usually avoid delving into. This aspect will be discussed more when I get around to talking about characters.

However, the thing that sticks out the most to me is his...lessons. How he makes you think about mortality and the negative and positive aspects of people and their situations. Higurashi and Umineko identify and share their themes strongly, while leaving some leeway for the reader to think about it themselves. God knows I've been rethinking and pondering a lot of Umineko's plot.

Without Love, it cannot be seen. Is a new philosophy I have started to use, for example.

That's where much of my love for WTC comes from, and before you ask, I know nothing about Ciconia but I plan to read it once my technology situation is sorted.

I think that's enough for my introduction, and now you know where I stand on this series that's wiggled it's way into my heart.

Part 2: Music

Before I discuss the Episodes of Umineko, I'd like to dedicate some to discuss one of my other favorite aspects of the Visual Novel, which is of course the amazing soundtrack that I cannot get enough of.

I never knew a Visual Novel about victorian ladies fucking with people would carry such a banger OST. I'll link some of my favorites:

I never realized how big of an impact music had on your enjoyment of a story, but Umi's soundtrack compliments scenes extremely well. There isn't much to say here but it's an extremely good listen and one of the major perks of the visual novel. Kudos to the various composers who worked on the soundtrack.

Part 3: Artstyle and Design

The last thing I should have to say for this post, and of course this section will be talking about the original novel Artstyle, however the others will be mentioned.

Umineko's designs are stand-out and very unique yet remain alluring. This goes both for the hair and face of the characters and their outfits...

And of course, the fact many of the outfits are taken from actual goth fashion being displayed at around the time or Umineko's original releases. Some of my favorite examples:

Wonderful, I think. I can easily tell these characters from their silhouettes which always means good design. Somewhat unrelated but Ryukishi seemed to really enjoy thigh gaps when designing, (Chiester Sisters, Dlanor's Group, Seven Stakes...) and whatever you would consider Gaap's Gap. However this isn't a negative by any means. Most of the men's outfits are suits, however I can appreciate a formal and crisp style and at least everyone has their own suit aesthetic. Original Battler is the best style btw.

To make mention of the other Artstyles Umineko has...

Pachinko: It's...good? Some characters look better like Lambadelta or George but some were...proportioned oddly? Kyrie and her immensely inflated chest definitely put me off. I had the Pachinko sprites option during my read so I swapped between this and original depending on who was onscreen.

PS3 Remake: Very good and faithful rendition while also modernizing and streamlining designs, though it didn't quite capture the rawness of Ryukishi's expressions in the original Artstyle at times.

Manga: Amazing. The Umineko manga expressions are absolutely amazing. Raw, detailed, the anount of time spent on those illustrations is obvious, up there with the original style.

Anime: It's alright.

That said, the expressions of Umi are stunning, which makes sense considering how gritty and fucked up the story can be at times, nothing beats the little laugh that accompanies these expressions in the visual novel.

(Original Novel) Finally, while the backgrounds in the novel can be pretty simple, Ryukishi truly does his best with what he has and works with, and I think the simple backgrounds work well to not detract focus from the characters and text, however I wish he made the glass shatter screen transition a bit less abrupt?

Masked Singer Season 5 Episode 3 Recap: Group A Returns With a Wildcard (Commentary & Guesses)

Hi guys! Welcome or welcome back to Ana’s Masked Singer recap, where I, Ana, recap every single episode of The Masked Singer. Ok, so I'm on time this time I swear (I try to do these the weekend after the show airs or Friday), and now we are starting to get the wildcards which was super exciting and Joel Mchale was guest judging so it was a very fun episode to watch! We’re back onto Group A but this time someone new joins the group, so stay tuned until the end to talk about that someone. Anyways, let’s get into it, starting with the eliminated contestant:

Commentary: honestly, I am not even the slightest bit surprised that he got eliminated... he should have gone home earlier but that’s neither here nor there, the Masked Singer likes to do that to us so whatever. But like honestly this is gonna sound mean, and look, not everyone is a singer, and he gave it the good old college try and I respect the hell out of that, but omg all I gotta say about his performance of Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash is yikes. That’s it, that’s all I gotta say about that... anyways, let’s reveal this rodent or mammal, idk man who told you guys I was an animal expert?!

Yeah, I guessed it baby! I even have proof, just look at my 1st recap of the season and it’s there, I got it! Yayyy! Anyways, I mean I know him, I have seen him around ofc (he has done a lot of acting and he even has a restaurant and everything), but like he can’t sing and that’s ok, he had fun, it’s what matters. Good job Danny Trejo and thank God he’s gone because finally my ears can be in peace.

Having said that, let’s move onto our remaining 4 (yes, 4 because wildcard baby!):

1. Seashell 🐚

Commentary: Her performance of Confident by Demi Lovato was to me much better than her last performance. It seemed like she was more confident (hehe no pun intended) in this one, kind of came into her own and let out the power in her voice. She was a bit timid and nervous in the first performance and it kind of reminded me of how Jellyfish started out, but this one was a lot more diva and powerful, I enjoyed it a lot. I really love Seashell, she is quickly becoming one of my favorite contestants (except nobody can beat my favorite who you will see in a moment)

2. Robopine 🦔

Commentary: He sang All of Me by John Legend and honestly song choice was 👌, like I would have picked that for him too. It was absolutely stunning and I can just close my eyes and enjoy the song, which that’s what some of the best ballad performances tend to do. I absolutely loved it, he is my favorite, if you can’t tell, and this was my favorite performance of the night. I have a prediction that Robopine might make it to the finals honestly because he is just that amazing.

I am changing my guess and I am more confident now with:

Tyrese Gibson

Reasoning/Clues: alright so I know that he isn’t 60 but I have a feeling he is lying about that and that he’s from Costa Rica (that’s too direct of a clue to be true you know and I feel like he is lying... Ken did say in the beginning that Robopine is the most confusing, so I do think that he is lying)... anyways clue time:

A lot of superhero clues= he will be playing one in Jared Leto’s Morbius film from Marvel

The lying means something = he has an album called Alter Ego, someone in the YouTube comments told me that he did a shoot with GQ called “60 the new 30” so that’s where the age thing might come from

IT SOUNDS A LOT LIKE HIM, OK?! Legit this is the most logic bomb I can give you right here... he’s trying to fool us but the voice is what matters... if you wanna compare voices go ahead, here’s a video that can help (it helped me even though the background singers kinda took over, but you get the point, it was live)

3. Russian Dolls 🪆

Commentary: THEY DIVIDEDDDDD... omg there’s 3 now! I FREAKING CALLED IT!! Anyways, they sang Wonder by Shawn Mendes and again I say their harmonies are so on point, it’s fantastic! I throughly enjoyed this performance, it was great! Their voices work really great together (ofc duh because they are a band... they have to be) and it was a really great song choice as well.

Again, I am gonna double down here (and them being 3 makes it even more convincing for me):

Hanson (All 3 of them this time)

Reasoning/Clues: ok, so now that there’s 3 of them, I don’t have to sound dumb and be like ummmmm it’s 2 of the Hanson brothers, which two I am not sure, but two of them. This time I can say it is all of Hanson, all 3 of them! WOOO! This performance really solidified it for me. Anyways, here are the logic bombs aka clues:

He was doing what he loved and rushed to the hospital = Zac, one of the brothers, was involved in a motorcycle accident in which he (get this, it’s really bad like reading it on Google made me go ouch that must have been a terrible accident) broke three ribs, his collarbone, and scapula.

The fire truck= the fire department was involved in the accident, which he spoke about in October 2019

4. Surprise! It’s Wildcard Time: Introducing the Orca (whale) 🐳

Commentary: ok, so he performed We’re Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister, and it was meh, it was ok. He sounds like a comedian, and his voice is so familiar, it’s killing me. Anyways, he is talk singing the entire time and there are parts where he sounds out of breath, so I don’t think he is a professional singer. The costume though (since I couldn’t really review that beforehand) looks like a pool floatie on top and a blue version of Banana from season 3 from the chest down, which is kind of cool (I would give it a 8/10 if I were to rate it). I really love that top head part, it looks super great, the costume designers killed it.

Ok, this one I am more unsure about but I am gonna say that I am between these 2:

Bill Burr or Adam Sandler

All right! Since I’m bored and have nothing else to do today, I’m gonna binge mushishi and post my thoughts while I watch! (I’m watching the dubbed btw)

Episode 1: The Green Seat

Wow, I forgot how much I love the voice of the intro. Like, it feels like it’s almost creepy but it just ends up being calming to me.

I LOVE THIS THEME SONG

The sore feet song just awakens something in me

And I love all the vague plant aesthetic during the song

I LOVE TRAVIS WILLINGHAM’S VOICE

The background art is so gorgeous

Ok, so the little ink bird the kid makes, Ginko just sees it and grabs it therefore crushing it. But he’s so against killing mushi so shouldn’t he have tried to catch it first or something? I know the ink bird isn’t technically a mushi, but still. Maybe he thought it was a bug?

His eye is beautiful, such a gorgeous blue-green color

I love the way that the kids drawings come to life how they don’t manifest as a full creature but more like the ink peeling off the page and moving around keeping its shape

If he drew a human would it come out as an actual human or just stay as an ink outline?

I bet that would depend on how he draws it like how later in the episode the bowl comes into reality as an actual object instead of just an ink outline

I love how easy it is for Ginko to get people to talk to him about stuff and I know in this episode it’s partly because the kid is completely alone all the time and probably misses human interaction, but still

I LOVE THE DESIGNS OF THE MUSHI

They’re so ethereal and flowy and pretty

The hand analogy to explain mushi is so great

I love that the mushi are described as being at “the place closest to your heart” and life at its purest form

They’re definitely at the place closest to MY heart

Ginko just said what people call ghosts are actually mushi of some sort... I love that concept of ghosts not being dead people but just this different kind of life form

Is it weird that I wish there were mushi in our world? They would make it so interesting

I want to be a mushishi wandering without a destination

Love that Ginko just keeps a mushi that sticks to other mushi

Ginko’s favorite color is green

The moment of realization in his eyes, but he’s able to keep his expression under control and keep up the snarky voice

Oh my gosh he’s so observant

Just from those few sentences he can completely analyze that she’s not a full mushi and used to be human and even has an idea of how it happened and how to help her

I love how you can practically feel all the points connecting rapid fire in his mind

The specific tone in his voice that makes him give off vibes that you shouldn’t trust this strange man but yet at the same time his confidence with everything makes you trust him 100%

I love his calm voice when he’s explaining things. If he did a podcast where he talked about mushi I would listen to it every night while falling asleep because his voice is just so calming

The mushi in human form for the mushi banquet are honestly actually pretty creepy

Also why do they choose someone to become a mushi?

When Ginko tells him that the mushi half of his grandma has stayed in the house watching him since the day he was born... honestly Ginko, that’s a little more freaky than comforting

Ginko says the kid can’t see he because she’s not a full mushi, but so then how come Ginko can see her? Is it because he’s a mushishi? Can all mushishi train themselves to see half-mushi? Or can he see her because he’s practically half mushi himself?

Specifically thinks “since he told me not to, I just have to look”

So the kid just imbues the brush with green paint by thinking about it... has he done that before or is this the first time?

When the cup pops up from the page the kid looks surprised, I feel like it must be the first time he’s drawn something like that and had it fully come to life instead of just an ink outline

Why did it turn the grandma into a full mushi but not do anything to the kid when he takes a sip? Do they have to specifically have been invited to the banquet for the liquid to have an affect on you?

So the mushi ask her to watch over her grandson all his life as a favor for them... why do they care about that??? Why do these specific mushi have enough sentience to care and want someone to watch over the kid with special powers? Would his powers affect them negatively if abused?

The real question is did the part of herself that kept growing old remember the banquet at all?

I love that the light wine makes everything grow

I love that Ginko just chooses to leave without a trace. I wonder if he’s considered a local cryptid in some areas

PENTAGON Shinwon x Ballroom Dancing

Hello, bebs! I’m not dead! I’ve just been busy with work and getting sick, but I am working on a few things. (BTW I might cave in and write for ONEUS one of these days; they got me hooked during the “TBONTB” era and I’ve been cooking up a oneshot since two weeks ago lol, also I want to write a ballroom AU for them as well HAHAHA.) For now, I’m distracting myself (and hopefully you too) from inactivity by posting this.

Honestly, I had the idea for this one from @incorrect-pentagon​‘s post. It’s just so funny and so Shinwon that I had to make it his ballroom background.

Became a ballroom dancer purely on accident.

Saw a flyer for a salsa class on the notice board at his college, and immediately took a stub for it. Didn’t even question why the person in the poster was wearing a ruffly dress and assumed it was just an aesthetic.

Went to the class, bag of tortilla chips in hand, only to find out that it was a salsa dancing class. He made an excuse to leave, but he’d already paid the small registration fee, so it would’ve been a waste, even it was just 5,000 Won.

So he joined the class, tried to have fun with it, but realized the salsa just wasn’t for him. But the instructor noticed he had good rhythm and musicality, and said that if he was up for it, he could try joining a free beginners’ waltz class later that day.

And Shinwon didn’t really have any other plans (apart from munching on his chips and would-have-been salsa dip), and he’s always had trouble saying no to nice people anyway, so he said yes.

And that’s the story of how Shinwon accidentally attended a salsa class and became a Standard dancer. Cannot for the life of him dance Latin, no matter how hard he tries. Like, he understands the movement, but it’s like his body doesn’t want anything to do with it.

Took a long time to find a partner because of his height coupled with his amazingly broad shoulders, but at some point he found you (a close friend from college that he didn’t know danced) and went like, “Hey, you wanna be my partner?” And you replied, “Only if we can play Mario Kart after,” and that basically sealed the deal. #PartnersForLife

Great lead and A+ partner. His shoulders posed a challenge at first because it gave you less mobility, but overtime you figured out how to work through it. He now knows how to use his shoulders for harder and snappier dances like the tango, for maximum sharpness.

If you invite him to work out, he would always decline, saying he was busy or something, but he never skips conditioning days. Working out is his least favorite thing to do, but he knows it’s necessary to keep his physique up, so he sucks it up and screams out the pain during training.

Comes to training wearing tracksuits. No matter how hot the day gets, even when the A/C in the studio broke that one time, he refused to unzip his jacket. Wants to keep up the aesthetic no matter what, so it looks kind of funny when he’s bouncing around in dress shoes, while also wearing an obnoxiously neon orange tracksuit set.

Has Twitter, Facebook, and IG. His posting schedule is sporadic; he’d post 5 times a week for two weeks, and then crickets for the next month. Mostly it’s daily affirmations, puns, and greeting his small fanbase.

His fans really appreciate him because, even though there isn’t many of them, they know that Shinwon has a golden heart and a very kind soul, not to mention a great dancer and overall wonderful person. It helps that he loves interacting with his fans

Likes to post selfies a lot, and sometimes food pictures whenever he goes out with his group of friends. Lots of basic captions for those.

He very rarely posts videos but when he does, it’s just clips of the videos you post on your YouTube channel. Those are short choreography videos, once-in-a-blue-moon NG/funny compilations, and competition videos your friends film when they watch.

He has a soft sport for the quickstep. It’s just such a fun dance that he can’t help but smile and laugh and occasionally let out a yell while you hop, skip, and jump around the dance floor. Yeah the steps are tricky to get right purely because they all look the same and it would look weird if you make a misstep, but he loves it too much to care.

Also love the Viennese waltz in particular. It’s the only dance he can really use his arms for something other than framing, and he makes the most of it. Shinwon sees the Viennese waltz as his cool-off dance because it’s slow and smooth. He also likes watching you dance it because you just look so beautiful.

Some of his fans who watched a Viennese waltz choreography video and couldn’t stop crying on Twitter about how lovingly Shinwon looked at you in that 5-second snippet.

Isn’t really one to show off his dancing, but he does like making choreography. He never uses it for competitions, but when he does make choreo, you would often film a video for it, and all his stuff just comes out so beautiful and elegant, his fans (and you) would always wonder why he isn’t a pro/guest in a dance program yet.

Extremely funny he could be in a variety show. His comedy and humor is super downplayed because of his good looks, but everyone he’s met at his side gig of being a model all said he always gets them rolling on the floor laughing within 10 minutes.

He did get invited for a comedy/variety program (think Itte-Q) once as a guest, to dance there, and the hosts/cast loved him so much they invited him to guest for a special, where he would do an adrenaline-raising activity.

Shinwon is unfortunately a scaredy-cat, and just couldn’t stomach the thought of bungee jumping or shooting out from a cannon (this is all in his imagination, by the way) without looking sick and feeling faint.

He told them about it and the producers said they understood. They’ve kept in touch, and Shinwon often gets invited for other segments like traveling or music segments.

As for modeling, every fashion designer he’s met fawned over his wide shoulders, often putting him in either bulkier stuff or skin-tight ones. A photographer once asked him what his full-time job was and when he said he was a dancer, the photographer immediately hooked him up with a fashion designer who specializes in dancesports wear.

Eventually, you both appeared in magazines posing for the designer’s newest collection for Standard Division costumes, and are her favorite pair to work with. Both your fandom sizes doubled when the spread came out, and Shinwon was even invited to do a runway show at some point.

You’ll always be the dancesports wear line’s models, though. Shinwon himself has even bout a tux she designed.
