eh, im very biased personally and i know she’s probably a better representation of the character but shelley duvall’s wendy is the canon wendy in my opinion 😭 i know wendy’s supposed to be blonde but it somehow feels like they whitewashed a white woman and I don’t like it!!! idk man the 1997 shining is just weird to me in general it feels like a weird dream

The 1997 version of Stephen King's The Shining will be released on Blu-ray on March 12 via Scream Factory. Displeased with Stanley Kubrick's 1980 adaptation, King took it upon himself to write the script based on his 1977 novel.

Mick Garris (The Stand, Sleepwalkers) directs the three-part miniseries. Steven Weber, Rebecca De Mornay, Melvin Van Peebles, Courtland Mead, and Wil Horneff star.

Special features are in progress and will be announced at a later date.

Jack Torrance (Steven Weber) and his family (Rebecca De Mornay and Courtland Mead) move into the sprawling, vacant Overlook Hotel to get away from it all. Away from the alcoholism that derails Jack's writing career. Away from the violent outbursts that mar Jack's past. But Jack's young son Danny knows better. He possesses a psychic gift called the shining — a gift the hotel's vile spirits desperately want.

i waz watching the shining minizeriez (not the movie,, the 1997 adaptation that waz filmed at the stanley hotel) with my mom,, and during one of the lazt few epizodez,, during an argument between jack and wendy,, zomething clicked in my brain and i realized that IM wendy ;w; (and that my dad remindz me of jack oopz)

im alzo gonna go up to the stanley hotel in wendy cozplay on halloween night too,, zo thatll be fun :P

The Shining (1997)

Прочитав "Сияние" и восхитившись, я решил посмотреть сериал по мотивам. Мол, там и сюжет близок к книге, и сценарий Кинг писал, да и исполнительный продюсер тоже он. Поэтому я, разочаровавшись в версии Кубрика, надеялся получить все то, что мне там не доставало. Поначалу все очень хорошо... Джек не выглядел как Николсон так, будто кукуха у него поехала еще до "Оверлука", Венди не выглядела как мокрая мышь, а Дэнни не разговаривал с пальцем (и вообще он тут дико миленький). Акцент ставили где надо, давали все подробности и т.д.

...но страшно так и не стало. Я совершенно не понимаю, почему, но атмосфера здесь совершенно убита и большинство, если не все страшные сцены, "не дожали" и "слили". Я не помню текст книги наизусть, но мне почему-то помнится, что там не было столько пустых диалогов между Джеком и Венди. А еще, по-моему, очень много моментов сокращались, сдвигались и попросту портились. Во всяком случае все, что в книге меня пугало, было значительно смазано. Одни из самых страшных сцен - с фигурами из кустов, что с Джеком, что с Дэнни (и сцена в тоннеле!) - были жестоко обрезаны и даже вовсе выкинуты. Буйство Джека с молотком было отнюдь не такое кровавое и страшное.

И так можно сказать про все. Нет, сериал, конечно, гораздо ближе следует сюжету книги - например, важная сюжетная линия алкоголизма Джека не выкинута на мороз, но флэшбеки на это сильно сокращены. Историю отеля тоже не оставили за скобками. Ну и финал практически не изменили (то есть Джек не замерз как собака на морозе, однако ТОЙ сцены с молотком так и не было). Но тем не менее большую часть сериала я был отчего-то в раздражении, а местами и в фейспалме. Хотя вроде, если не придираться, довольно близко к тексту. Так или иначе, если вам нужны ужасы - идите к Кубрику. Если сюжет - смотрите сериал. Если вам нужно и то, и другое - читайте книгу.

P.S. Надо будет потом прочитать "Доктор Сон" и посмотреть одноименный фильм. Но когда у меня еще руки дойдут...
