This one should have been the launching pad for the franchise. Primarily set outdoors during the 12 hours where crime is legal, this one ups the stakes in terms of what can happen.

Led by Frank Grillo as hardened LAPD officer looking for revenge, he finds himself embroiled in controversy when innocent people are targeted for purging.

It is a lot more unpredictable than the first one was. That allows for insanity of the night to take center stage. There were moments that they could have had more to happen or create some more intense moments. The idea here is that anything can happen at any given moment. Sometimes, it felt like a lot of the scenes were progressing to the next thing and didn't give off that sense these characters truly were expendable.

It is a step up in terms of dealing with the ideology that surrounds people who are willing to go absolutely wild and commit these kinds of crimes. It does showcase those who are pro purging and those who vehemently oppose the idea that this brings balance.
