first of all, its my first time using this app

About me: she/he, minor, ENFP, hufflepuff, osemanverse fan but mostly radio silence / heartstopper. I love tea and art (maybe i post some draws)

I'm surprised I've never seen anything like this before but

Emma is

Smart

Like, very smart

Throughout the first season and pretty much the five first mangas (and even after that, Norman is still the strategist, the master, and Ray and Emma... well they are trying to survive, with 20 kids, in the wild), she is described as the least intelligent of the golden trio.

Of course she is. Close to Norman, with his genius brain, and Ray, with talent for analysing and a sharp and cynical mind, who is she, right?

Emma is just that eager, fast learner who is smart because she loves to try new things. She is not brilliant. She just tries very hard.

Right?

Right?

Wrong!

If you look closely, she is probably the most intelligent out of the trio. Not academically (I mean, yeah, that too), but...

She can think of a plan in a matter of seconds (we see it, it's there, she can make hard decisions in the blink of an eye, who to trust with the truth, what to say to the spy, a spy she knows, a spy she is ready to use, but never abandon)

She can convince people to help, she can make people believe, she can distorce anything and make people trust her because really, what other option there is? (She does this in a kind manner with the kids, who trust her wholeheartedly, who listen, who follow. She does this sharply, in a mean, distorted way, with Yuugo, and he has no other option but to low his head and do what she says, because she doesn't hesitate, she doesn't shake, when she says she will blow up the whole place)

She can hide her intentions, play pretend, fool the master of the game.

She fools Mama Isabella, following norman's plan, yes, but the part where she pretends to have given up? That's entirely hers. Norman's plan was to teach other kids through game (witch was partially Emma's idea, anyway) and prevent Ray from dying. But letting other kids plan things? Norman saw the kids as they were, kids, innocent, needing protection. Emma saw the kids as brave people, completely capable of doing anything. She was the one ready to trust them.

She fools Norman, pretending she is ok with him going feral over demons and killing every one of them, pretending she is tired of fighting, pretending she doesn't have a side plan that will save everyone, humans and demons alike, a plan she came up by herself.

She fools Ray, pretending that she hasn't sacrificed herself so everyone can go home.

And she does everything without people noticing, because she looks like sunshine and glitter and adventure and she smiles easily and is so hopeful that it's easy to forget that she too, is a golden child. That she too is cunning and bright and that she may look like a cinnamon roll, but oh god, she could kill you three times before you noticed it was her, and proceed to sleep peacefully next to the kids she loves and protect.

She is kind, yes, but dont mistake her kindness for ignorance.
