been thinking about a fic idea that i've been tossing around in my head a lot recently, and the basics are that blackwall gets outed as not being a warden early– directly because of leliana's experience with the fifth blight and traveling with the HOF and alistair. like. imagine.

you recruit blackwall after leliana tells you there's a warden hanging out in the hinterlands. it's right at the part of the game where you're likely to be going to the storm coast for the first time, and there are plenty of warden artifacts that blackwall wants you to find there as well. makes perfect sense for you to bring blackwall around while going to the storm coast. maybe even leliana encourages it– darkspawn have become a problem in the storm coast, so it only makes sense to take along blackwall, as wardens are supposed to be able to sense darkspawn. leliana knows this, and doesn't have any reason to keep it from the inquisitor. it's good info for them to know.

but. like,,, he can't sense darkspawn. and him lying about being able to do it puts the group directly at risk if they try to rely on him to sense when darkspawn are going to pop up. his need to keep up the warden persona would likely have him just nodding along to taking on night watches and patrols so he can be awake/aware enough to warn the others of a darkspawn attack but. okay what if they ARE ambushed by darkspawn and blackwall couldn't sense them, and someone ends up hurt. or infected with the blight. or worse. how does he talk his way out of it. how does he deal with the guilt of that. idk just Thinking

Leliana in DAI: *just saw the woman she faithfully served for years and the peace effort she was leading get blown up, is declared an insurrectionist and a heretic by what's left of the organization that helped her find a new purpose in life after being betrayed by Marjolaine and has to deal with the massive number of assasins, threats and other enemies the inquisition faces (and depending on your choices may have romanced a Warden that died or was possibly killed herself by the Warden)
