Chapter 9.0 - Prologue for a New Afterlife

Excerpt from "The Afterlife for Gods and Monsters," location of book unknown.

It should be said that the space between universes was not a bar. You couldn't just stumble in whenever you wanted and pour yourself a drink.

Even if you were the most silver-tongued of creatures.

Even if you were fast as the fae.

"Akira Kibo, the afterlife is not a free-for-all," Substance huffs, folding her arms. 

"Yeah, and if you ain't want visitors, you shoulda been faster closing the door." 

It was a technicality. But then again, technicalities were the lifeblood of the fae. 

Substance rolls her eyes. “Your father was like you. Fast enough to slip in here and take something that was ours. I hear the birds are still eating his liver."

"Sounds about right," Akira smirks. “He was kind of an asshole.” 

And there, the creature standing before the Divine Creators demonstrated that he knew the foundational rule of the universe: 

Fuck around and find out.

“Akira Kibo, last one left,” Time observes in her honeyed voice. "Ancient upon ancient. Cursed with the speed that made you at once a harbinger and a relic. You must be lonely."

“I don’t gotta be,” Akira replies. “The Reaper's scythe is not a requirement for a new life.”

It was a law so arcane that the Divine Creators almost forgot they made it.

"You’ve done your reading," Substance allows, "And what would you offer in exchange for this new life? Would you get back what your father stole?”

"In exchange, I will make sure that what my father took ends up where it belongs."

As far as deals went, it left a lot to be desired. The fae can't lie, which wasn't the same as saying they don't lie, so that single statement presented loopholes upon loopholes.

But it was as close to satisfaction as the Creators were going to get. 

"It's tricky, starting a new life without death," Time purses her lips. "All this experience will be muscle memory, a life you feel but can't remember. You and your sister will be in between."

Akira shrugs. "We got over losing godhood. Pretty fuckin' sure we'll survive this." 

"So confident!" Time quirks a brow, "Alright. Have your new life, Akira. But first, a question. Who would you be in a whole new world? What would you do with a new set of circumstances?"

"I wouldn't be the last."

“I would keep them safe.”

It should be said that the Divine Creators were not usually chatty. Usually, they did not tell you shit. But sometimes, when you made a thing, you had a soft spot, and so, just before Akira reaches the doors, Time calls out:

“They will be unruly, Akira. And loathe to listen. They will make you break your rules and forget your vows. They will test your boundaries and leave you wanting. Death will come for you. And woe be unto the creatures standing in the way of the Hunt for your heart.”

With those parting words, the Creators watch as Akira walks out the doors and falls into his next life.

"The screaming is always so loud. We should change things up," Time muses. "What about a nice bayou instead of a warehouse? We could drown everyone in a lake instead of dropping them onto concrete."

“It won’t work,” Substance grumbles.

“Of course it will. I already have the perfect piece of property picked out.”

"Not your swamp. This plan. I don't like it."

Time is unphased. She sinks to her knees behind her wife, placing a steadying hand on her hip. "You worry too much."

“And you don't worry enough,” Substance tilts her head back. She bites down on a moan, fighting against the distraction. “You promised me an eternity of torment, and now we’ll have to free him because if the son exists, so too must the father.”

“You are too tense,” Time plants the softest kiss at the base of her wife's spine, “Remember when we killed all the gods and replaced them? This is like that. It's a good plan."

"But my birds are—"

Another kiss. "The birds won’t go hungry for too long. Akira will remember his task."

“The living don’t remember shit.” Substance snaps, but her voice is breathless. "And anyway, he's too fast. Cursed with it."

“Then Death, my love, will just have to catch him.”

But first, get to know her creator:

I first started playing HL since May. I was a 2nd year college student when me and my older sister decided to buy the game on Steam. I'm a girl who loves Harry Potter world for its unique fantasy with a mix of real-life. So buying the game is a dream come true to achieve all my wishes to explore Hogwarts and be the witch of my dreams!

And that's all for facts about me, its time to introduced to you my HL MC: Anais Ainsley!

Story:

Born on Scotland, Anais is a half-blood daughter of two farmers, her mom is Carmila Ainsley, the half-blood while her father is Harold Ainsley, the pure-blood of the family. She is a neighborly child who gracefully respects her adults and polite to her peers. She loves books and her countryside life. She found out that she's a squib much to her dismay of unable to experience magic like her parents and her childhood friend, Owen, but they didn't love her any less. From their unconditional love and support, Anais decided to have a future as a farmer like them.

Unfortunately her life, since her birthday, turn into a series of multiple tragedies when she lost her father to a drunk pure-blood supremacist, Owen to the Unforgivable curses and left her in pain, and her mom becoming the shell of her former self. Home is never the same until she receives hope in a letter on her 15th birthday.

And how could Anais say no to her second chance to start a new life?

About her:

Her boggart is Failing her duties and everyone suffering as a result

Finding out her magic in 5th year, she now dreams to be a Healer.

She is the most beautiful student of Hogwarts due to her natural Victorian standards, much to the jealousy of her rich and pure-blood schoolmates

A literal badger: kind and innocent at first until her love ones are threatened

She is an ambidextrous

Learns Braille for Ominis

Loves to watch Quidditch thanks to Sebastian

Anais is easy to give gifts to as long as its pretty and thoughtful like beautiful rocks or homemade sweets.

She abhors being called stupid, and gets angry to cover her fear of being incapable 

Anais never discriminated against all magical beings

Anais loves to sneak into the kitchen and steal some sweets and bread, much to the house-elves’ amusement

Anais works part-time in the Three Broomsticks to help her mother

Anais has a soothing and soft voice

Her barn owl is named Soren

Her favorite Hogsmeade shops are Steeply and Sons, Honeydukes, and Zonkos

Always seen carrying a different book

She loves long warm baths and braided hairstyles

Professor Fig teaches Anais how to apparate and bits of magical theory in their free time.

So that's all I could share about my MC, the rest I just have to expand in my story which I still debate if I should share it to everyone.

I'm just going to throw out an idea here. Err

So, Cam's God. Does it mean heaven and hell exist in the universe?

Wayne knows God exists, he's experienced the divine presence. He's spoken to God face to face. He's lived with him. Cameron being God means he can see all. He knows how people act. But face to face, they may hide some of it to avoid consequences (but I think some of these characters are a bit too honest for that). Fear in the face of God and all that. Wayne doesn't have that fear. Wayne doesn't hesitate to sin and inflict harm on his roommate. He just disrespects his creator??? Death wish. So when it gets too far, Cameron Slaughters him.

Could Wayne's fear of death also stem from that fact he'd go to hell? When he died, I'd like to think he experienced hell. Not like "oh this feels like hell" I mean like he's burning in the afterlife with no one to save him.

So when he gets brought back, he'd see it as like God taking pity on him and giving him a second chance. But he doesn't understand why he went to hell so he just does the same things except now his pranks are less extreme or something. And I think he avoids doing it to cam? I forgot the timeline. Obviously, that won't change where he's going. But yeah, he meets Justin (I am always going to reuse the Justin case movie when talking about him) and now he's in captivity with more freaks and he's losing his mind.

So basically, I think he'd value his life a lot more the second time. So I'll snatch your escape idea. Wayne was so desperate to live because he knows that if he dies, he'll end up in the worst place Imaginable. He'll even risk escaping the guy who's prepared for EVERYTHING (except being gassed).

Maybe Justin only showed the people trying to escape how the cloning process works to kill spirits and show the gravity of the situation as punishment. If he showed people who didn't attempt to leave, I feel like they'd try harder. But that could also be the possibility for those trying to escape. Justin could also just not show them. What if they actually escape and know how Justin's doing this. Wouldn't he get into even more trouble (he doesn't. Canonically, man just stops. Like, that's it. Hilarious)

And "God's Favourite"?? Oh what a painful thought. Like, obviously, Cameron hates Wayne. But the way he keeps being brought back only to suffer?? Wayne is God's favourite to punish. He's going to put Wayne through the same shit he went through. But God's favourite is such a ughhh get out of my skin get out of my skin get out of my skin get out of my skin get out of my skin get out of my skin get out of my ski

i get the ending and it’s alright, but also seems anticlimactic. like cam shows up and tells justin “dude you’re a fictional made up character on the internet you’re already immortal 💀” and justin’s like “oh fr then ig i’ll stop” which isn’t that satisfying at all. i don’t like that ending the discord’s ending (ask me for an invite link if ur interested in the server, we’re all very cool) is much better since yk. it has actual character development.

personally? i don’t like this ending much and i am unsatisfied. it might be better if he actually posts it but i still don’t like it much. if only…….i finished the goddamn animation……..ughhh

The Save File Chronicles Catch-Up Post #1

Happy 2025! After a long winter nap, I’ve finally got some chapters ready that will start coming out next week. But since it’s been a while and I’ve got some new followers, I figured it was a good time for a summary post. If you want to dive into the story with the next chapter, this is your guide. 

Before you embark—

The Save File Chronicles is a “slice of life with a side of bloodshed” story. By that, I mean you should be prepared for occult shit and everyday life drama, along with plenty of violence, bloodshed, and mayhem. Also, sex. This is a paranormal romance about deeply unhinged, morally gray characters who get happy endings.

In other words, mature themes for 18+ with a plot that is wacky, cozy, and sometimes dark. 

It’s totally okay if this is not your vibe, and you want to nope out now! I’m not offended. But if this sounds like your thing, read on. 

The Premise

Our story begins with an excerpt from The Afterlife for Gods and Monsters. In it, Time and her wife, The Universe, welcome a new set of gods and monsters to the great beyond. It’s called The Space Between Universes because there are multiple worlds, each an alternate version of each other—as if someone had multiple save files with the same set of characters… 

The space between universes isn’t anything so dreamy as the old myths portend. There’s no feeling of weightlessness or enchanting choral music, and certainly, no gossamer hands gently guiding you toward a welcoming light. 

The important thing to know here is that everything dies, including worlds. Each time one does, the Divine Creators shunt off its gods, monsters, and other powerful supernaturals to a special version of the Hereafter while they decide their fate. There is always a new world to be reborn into, but there are no promises about who—

—Or what you’ll be.

This time, the Divine Creators welcomed four beings: Alice Martin (the God of Death), Miko Ojo (Fate Itself), William Redding (King of the Vampires), and Vladislaus Straud (Fear Itself) are all processed and sent to a new universe with no memories of their former powers. 

But it is not a world without magic ‌or mystery, and the call to follow the otherworldly is strong. 

The Characters

The Save File Chronicles is a massive story with tons of characters, but the first arc revolves around this group:

Alice Martin is trying hard not to let her ganja habit impede her classes. After surviving an abusive relationship, she finally feels ready to date again and joins Cupid’s Corner. She immediately connects with a deeply odd law school student named Vladislaus Straud. 

Meanwhile, her best friend and roommate, Miko Ojo, is struggling with the pressure of being a TA, and an intrusive voice that just won’t leave her alone. Mortifyingly, she gets a UTI while hearing her fellow TAs gossip about her in the bathroom.

Across campus, dying from boredom on a library tour, William Redding uses his boyfriend as an excuse to skip out from under the watchful eye of his socialite mother and politician father. His actual plans, however, involve planning a hookup with a man who isn’t his boyfriend and meeting up with his best friend, Vladislaus Straud. 

Vlad is new to Cupid’s Corner, too. A self-professed curmudgeon who finds sims and social situations completely overwhelming, he is also trying to put himself out there again after a nasty breakup.

Actually, Jacob’s exact words were that Vlad lacked a conscience and a heart. The first part was accurate, but the second part? The second part filled Vlad with an unending desire to flay open his chest and see if it was true.

Vlad connects with Alice and so the lives of these four “random” sims become entwined. 

Later, a mysterious fae named Akira Kibo enrolls in classes on an assignment from La Cosa Simstra, a supernatural organized crime family headed up by The Devil Himself, Jacques Villareal. Akira is all the things you’ve heard about the fae: beautiful, cruel, enigmatic—  

—And a raging asshole who becomes obsessed with Alice and Vlad.

The Plot

We meet our lovely characters as they are making their way through graduate school at Britechester University. Alice is desperate to avoid failing out of school by pulling off a photography project about a secret society on campus. She drags Miko to observe one of their secret meet-ups, and things get…weird as shit.

The members of the secret society take notice of their two stalkers and give chase. 

Alice and Miko escape, but not before a nearby werewolf observes the whole situation and reports back to Jacques. 

Jacques is curious about why the secret society would chase these two sims, but not kill them. He orders Akira to enroll in college and monitor Miko and Alice, hoping to discover some secrets he can use to destroy spellcaster society, which he blames for the death of his wife. 

Alice vows not to give up on uncovering the secrets of the weird cult on campus, but she has to balance her ambition with her dating life. She agrees to meet with Vlad, who is completely stressed out about the whole thing.

“I told you. I have a date, and after a series of messages in which she defended her gloriously wrong Tea & Treachery opinions and rebuked my use of the word ‘precipitous’ at least three times, I have decided that she is, in fact, perfect. So I…I don’t want her to be disappointed by me.” 

While Alice and Miko were running from dastardly cloaked figures, he was easing his boredom by causing chaos at Lairs and Llamas. During the game, he purposefully picks a fight with William’s boyfriend, Christopher. After being chastised and helping his sister bury the body of an intruder, he spends the week stressing over what to wear.

Eventually, the date happens, and Vlad and Alice discover that while they are both complete weirdos, they are weirdos in a way that works for both of them. 

“If you had any supernatural power, what would it be?” “Paralyzing sims with fear and the ability to become a sentient mist so I could leave any conversation.” He taps a finger to his lip, “And enough strength to crush someone’s bones.” “Messy,” Alice giggles. “What are you gonna do with all that bone dust?”

They decide to keep dating and depart the record store they were hanging out in with no idea that the sim Alice thought was stalking them was the ghost of a dead student who had been missing for months. 

They also didn’t notice Akira carefully stalking them and using his glamour to hide his tracks. Akira confronts the ghost of the dead student, hoping to get details about what Vlad and Alice discussed. It goes poorly because, as previously mentioned, Akira is an asshole. 

He leaves and takes a call from his sister, Titania (yes, that Titania), and is subsequently struck by supernatural lightning because, as everyone knows—

Miko and William, meanwhile, are dealing with their own drama. William’s boyfriend breaks up with him after the fight with Vlad (partially because of the fight, partially because of the booty calls with sims that aren’t him). 

The size of William’s ego makes this difficult to process.

Miko is cracking under the pressure, as well. After nearly passing out from her UTI, her fellow TA, Emmett Pollock, helps her recover. 

The voice in her head becomes slightly more supportive after that, encouraging her to spend more time with Emmett, stay the hell away from Vlad, and informs her she is not a sim. 

It's the perfect time for a run-in with Akira who doesn’t look or act like any sim Miko ever met. 

Coincidentally, Emmett shows up again, and Akira disappears. Grateful for the intervention, and feeling a little crush, she goes for coffee with Emmett and accepts his help to get a job at an Apothecary Shop in Glimmerbrook.

The run-in with Miko freaks Akira out too, or at least makes him frustrated. A fae’s glamour is impenetrable, and he can’t figure out how she saw through it.

It doesn’t help that he had the strangest dream about two women calling themselves Time and the Universe. He made some sort of deal with them to be reborn into this world, but the details are hazy and make little sense. 

The next morning, Akira finds Alice poking around in his backyard. After confronting her over her dangerous method of getting photos of a poisonous plant, he agrees to spend the afternoon with her on campus. 

He can’t deny the way he feels drawn to her, possessive even, and so even though it breaks every rule he has in place to protect himself, he makes a promise to her. 

It’s a promise to watch a dumb-ass reality tv show, but still, he’s desperate to see her again. 

After fighting a pack of goblins and running down a sim in the Devil’s debt, he pops over to Henford-on-Bagley to observe his other obsession: Vlad.

Maybe familiarity is what draws him to Vladislaus. Akira finds him beautiful in a way that’s very different from Alice. She’s all sunshine and fire with curls he wants to wrap around his fingers and lips he wants to bite. But Vladislaus is like the fae—compelling but dangerous. Even with a black eye, he’s so unnaturally pretty that his features seem to be arranged wrong. 

Akira is sure that he is using his glamour, but unbeknownst to him, Vlad sees right through it.

Seeing a supernatural creature sends Vlad into a spiral.

Getting Vlad out of his obsessive tailspin is a strange process. His father and grandfather hunt him in the woods with actual weapons. 

They tell him he needs a boss to keep him from burning the world to the ground. 

And Vlad’s attitude toward injuries is odd, too:

Once, someone broke the shank of a screwdriver off in his arm. He could have just let it disappear, but his parents were insistent, so like everything else that he does because it's “what sims do,” he sliced open his bicep and dug it out. 

He returns to campus after his breakdown and immediately seeks Alice and offers to help her with research about the secret society. When she makes a joke about being his boss, Vlad decides that she should definitely be in charge. 

The delight etched across Alice’s face at the idea of being in charge of him is enough to send Vlad into the stratosphere. It also spawns a fantasy that makes his pulse race. Something inside him unwinds and stretches. It wraps fingers around his rib cage and peers out past his heart, pleased and bound.  “Yes, I do very well with specific instructions. Feel free to demand whatever you want.” 

And now you’re caught up!

Obviously, this isn’t every single detail, but it should let you jump in when Chapter 9 comes out later this week. We’ll be picking up right where things left off in the room with Vlad getting his…uh…boss.

Half-blood

Enjoyed anything to do with fashion, makeup and hair

Loved going to muggle thrift shops in London during the holidays

Mary wanted to become a seamstress or something like that, having her own store to design and make her own outfits to sell

Whenever she had made new outfits, she'd enlist her roommates to try them on to see how they looked, and the girls would always make a show out of taking turns walking around the room like it was a runway, muggle records (courtesy of Lily) playing in the background as the other girls clapped and laughed as they each made ridiculous poses

Mary's favourite classes were Divination and Charms

She took up tarot reading after starting divination in her third year and loved it

Since then, her friends have often come to her for a reading to get advice, and most have reported her readings to be scarily accurate.

Her roommates always tease her for the amount of luggage she brings to Hogwarts - mostly full of clothes and make-up, and it's a running joke that every time Mary shows her deep love of fashion and such, the others sing the muggle song "Material Girl"

During her time at Hogwarts, she had a tabby cat named Mittens

Mary was quite good at Charms and was actually the creator of multiple hair-braiding and make-up charms, although she still enjoyed doing it herself.

Mary was a hopeless romantic, which surprised some of her friends, viewing her as mostly put together and a realist. But, as a Half-blood, she grew up hearing about muggle fairytales as well as wizard fairytales, and she was always fascinated by them.

She also likes reading muggle books in general, especially poetry, and authors like Shakespeare and Jane Austen, similar to Lily

Mary developed a crush on Regulus Black, who was a year older than her, in her fourth year, after getting into a conversation with him about Their favourite poems one day. And from then on, she found a side of Regulus that was quite kind and thoughtful.

Mary and Lily were especially close, bonding over their experiences in the muggle world, constantly braiding each other's hair and chatting non-stop about muggle boys, music, and gossip, amongst other things, with most of their other friends being utterly confused, which just made them laugh

Mary was half Irish (on her father's side) and half French (on her mother's side)

This led to having an odd mix between the two accents and also meant that she could talk quite properly one minute and then use lots of Irish slang the next, Like:

"Lily, would you be a dear and pass me that red lipstick?"

"Honestly, James, you made a right bags of it, didn't you?"

Because she's Irish, she also knows how to Irish dance

After Mary finished school she went on a trip to France, with her roommates, Regulus, James and the other boys

Because of her talent in divination, Mary loved Pandora and Sybill, and enjoyed their gossiping about what was on the cards for them all and sneaking out onto the astronomy tower to stargaze.

She enjoyed cooking with Peter, their specialty was apple pie
