Pathfinder Campaign Character Reflection

Session 1-2

Context: After surviving some sick games at the prison for the guards entertainment, Ren and Willow are reunited with Sloan and Percy. Together again, they are offered a deal from the Warden: do his dirty work and gain their freedom back. They all agree, Ren desperate for freedom, Sloan looking for gold, and Percy doing anything to avoid going back home. The work brought our newly formed party to Dusthaven, a small town with a big mystery...

Despite being in the desert, being out of the prison is like drinking from an oasis. And my thirst is finally quenched for the first time in weeks. It’s a moment of respite, before I remember once again where we are.

The wheels are turning in everyone’s heads, we can see it. Is there a trick? A catch? A trap that we’re missing? Is this all part of a sick game? But if the choice is parting ways in Dusthaven and being hunted and chased like before, or returning to the prison where my fate is sealed, well, that’s hardly a choice to me. 

I wish Percy had just stayed, gone home like I begged her too. Does she know something? Percy is dangerous, but she's lost too, not to mention convicted. I don't think I could ever change her mind at this point. And now with her… development… It seems we’re stuck together. It's dangerous to continue on with these strangers, thieves, and bounty hunters. But it's too dangerous not to. They know the desert better than Percy and I. Between facing the dangers of people and the dangers of nature, I'd rather take the dangers of people. People can be killed. I'd rather it not come to that.

Willow and I go to see the psychic. I know plenty of people claim to be psychic, to swindle people out of their money, so we ask a simple question to see if she’s the real deal. I’m glad Willow asked first. She’s real, all right. I want to know what the psychic would see in me. Answers? Truth? Just a reminder of what was? But I would prefer to ask in private. Though, I don’t think I would actually get answers. I doubt my dead would want to speak to me…

Thanks for the request! I made the reader gender neutral, so hope that’s alright! Also this was a lot of fun to write he he

Pairing: Wakatoshi Ushijima x Gender Neutral Reader 

Warnings: Surgery, suggestive, (three) bad words

Note(s): I do believe Ushijima, since he’s not one to speak a lot normally, rambles on medication. I can imagine him being even blunter with no filter at all and very affectionate. That’s just my opinion though.

Ushijima knew he couldn’t wait to get his teeth out anymore. When eating he now had to avoid using his molars, not wanting to feel the extra teeth hurt his gums as he chewed. 

“Toshi, why are you eating like that?” You asked while watching him struggle to eat the rice in the bento box you made him. “Are your teeth bothering you again?” He quickly swallowed, setting down his chopsticks. 

“No.” He lied unconvincingly. 

Giving him a look, you grab his after practice snack. “We’re going to make you a dentist appointment. To get those little h*es out before you can’t eat at all.” The boys watched you drag their captain across the gym, laughing when they heard Ushijima reply to that. 

“Please don’t call my teeth ‘little h*es’, Y/n.” You only rolled your eyes while handing him his bag. 

“I can call them worse things.” He frowns, knowing you definitely had worse names to call the intruding molars. “Especially if they’re hurting my boyfriend,” You give him a peck on the side of his jaw, feeling him smile. “The sooner you get them out the sooner you can play normally again. You can also stop eating with your front teeth. Doesn’t that sound like a win-win situation?” 

Ushijima doesn’t say anything, only pulling you closer. You smile, knowing you’ve convinced him to get his teeth out as soon as possible. 

“Now I’ll talk to your dentist about ripping those b*st*rds from your mouth.” 

“Y/n,”

You had to bite your lip to keep from laughing. It’s just so hilarious to witness post surgery Ushijima. The dentists were struggling as much as you were at the scene displaying in the office. 

“Y/n-chan, you look so pretty today!” The male slurred, strong arms outstretching. You held your phone up, the other hand covering your mouth to prevent you from laughing at him. “You’d look prettier, without the clothes.” He slumped down so he’d be whispering into your ear, making your face flush crimson.

At that moment the dentist trying to hand you a packet of resources lost it. His voice was so gruff but slurred because of the medication still coursing through his body. Ushijima’s eyes were barely open as he was exhausted from a restless night of worrying about how he’d act on the anesthesia. 

He was right to be worried. 

“When we get home,” Ushijima continued to grunt into your ear. “I want you bare.” The dentist continued cackling and you snickered from under your hand. “What’s funny, Y/n-chan?” 

“N-nothing!” You wheezed out while holding up your phone. Really you shouldn’t be recording but the dentist was too busy laughing to speak coherently. 

Ushijima’s head suddenly fell on your shoulder, arms becoming limp around your waist. “Tired…” He groaned out, fatigue replacing his flirtatious mood from mere seconds ago. 

“Here,” The dentist finally calmed down enough to give you the sheet of precautions and prescriptions. “You have a good boyfriend.” She giggled while you smirked. 

“He’s an idiot and I love him so much.”

Ushijima didn’t want to see the video the next day. He didn’t want to know what he said or how he acted. Instead of watching the video you took he had his head nestled into your body, an ice pack pressed against his face. 

“I’m not watching it.”

“But baby,” You tried to convince him but his head wouldn’t budge. You couldn’t move him either, as you’d risk hurting his already sore face. “It’s funny.” 

Ushijima’s eyes flicker up at you and you bite your lip. There was something about that stare that made you turn pink. “I won’t watch it.” He finally said before moving back into your body. 

It’s not long before he feels you move away from him. “Then no cuddles.” You claim boldly. 

Ushijima stared at you with cold eyes, challenging you. Still you sat away from him with your arms crossed, lips a straight line. You weren’t backing down from him. Even if he’s still groggy and sore, you won’t take pity. 

“Fine. Get over here.” 

You smirk, knowing you’ve won. Nestling into his body, he rests his head against your shoulder. The ice pack is pressed against your neck but you don’t mind since Ushijima’s body is like a portable heater. 

Grinning, you press play. Ushijima tries to keep a straight face as he watches him walk around the office with his arms open, mumbling the lyrics of a song from the last movie he watched with Tendou and you. His eyebrows move together when he sees himself engulf you in his arms, pulling your body flush against him. When he hears himself flirt with you he pauses the video. 

“Enough of that.” He says simply, moving his fingers to delete the video. 

“No!” You exclaim while moving your phone, not allowing him to get rid of it. “I love flirty-Waka,” Smiling when he frowns, you continue. “You know, flirty Toshi was pretty cute…” 

Ushijima pulls you closer, chuckling gruffly. “Are you saying you like me being bold?” With his nose pressed against yours, you look him in the eyes before giving him a kiss. He moves into your lips, giving you a strong look when you retract to give him a dopey, affectionate grin. 

“Yes.”

Sal Cannella snatches one away from Bama!

     War Eagle everybody! It’s time now for the Acid Reign Report on an epic 48-45 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide. A day later, I still can’t believe the Tigers pulled this win off. A look at the stat sheets boggles the mind. Alabama scored 5 offensive touchdowns to Auburn’s 3. Alabama had 161 more yards of offense than Auburn did, and Auburn allowed a kick return touchdown for good measure. If you had told me that Alabama was going to have 515 yards of offense and score 45 points, I would have envisioned an Alabama blowout win.

     Midway through the second quarter, the game was tied at 10-10 on a long field goal by Anders Carlson. The game looked for all the world like it was going to be one of those tense, low-scoring Iron Bowls. Then, an explosion of points occurred before halftime. First, Alabama quarterback Mac Jones threw possibly his only bad pass of the day. The pass sailed, and was picked off by Smoke Monday, who took it to the end zone. The Auburn lead did not last long. Bama’s Jaylen Waddle ran the ensuing kickoff back through the heart of the Auburn coverage without being touched. On Auburn’s second play, JaTarvious Whitlow fumbled the ball back to Alabama in Auburn territory.

     Alabama cashed the lone Auburn turnover of the day quickly, hitting a perfectly thrown fade route to DeVonta Smith to the Auburn 4 yard line. Mac Jones, falling backwards under intense pressure found Henry Ruggs in the back of the end zone. In just a few plays, Auburn was trailing Alabama 24-17. Auburn answered, with 3 incredible catches in a row. First, Seth Williams made a one-handed grab of a 37 yard fade pass. Then Will Hastings came out of nowhere to snag an attempted throw-away for another first down. Then quarterback Bo Nix lofted a pass to the end zone that looked for all the world to be overthrown and out of bounds. Sal Cannella leaped and snagged the pass, and got both feet down in bounds for the tying touchdown.

     Jaylen Waddle burned Auburn quickly on the next series. Jones found Waddle on a simple curl route, and Waddle outran the whole Auburn secondary for a 58 yard touchdown. Auburn had the ball last in the half, hoping to move it at least for a field goal, but the Tigers were out of timeouts. A screen pass to JaTarvious Whitlow got a first down at the Alabama 34, but the clock seemed to expire while Alabama was wrestling Whitlow to the ground. Video replay showed that Whitlow was down with 1 second left.

     I’ve seen much arguing about the officials on this one, but to my view I think they got it right. The real issue was whether Auburn would be able to snap the ball and get a field goal attempt off, before the clock expired. While the review was going on, Alabama players went to the locker room, while Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn sent the field goal unit out, and got them lined up. Most descriptions of the play don’t mention this, but Alabama had to call timeout in order to get their field goal block unit out there. It is in the official box score play-by-play, “Timeout Alabama, clock 00:01.” So, instead of the clock starting again at the ready-to-play signal, the rule is that after a timeout the clock does not start till the ball is snapped. Daniel Carlson was true on the 52 yard attempt, and Alabama led 31-27 at the half.

     Auburn began the second half holding Alabama to a rare 3 and out, and got good field position out of the punt. The Tigers had to settle for a field goal on that possession, which cut the Alabama lead to 31-30. Alabama then threatened to take control of the game, driving the ball relentlessly down the field to a first and goal at the Auburn 9. From there, a weird day turned even more bizarre.

     A total of 6 plays were run inside the Auburn 10, and it looked for all the world that Alabama was about to go up by 8 points. An incomplete 3rd down pass had the look of a heroic Auburn stop, but a roughing the passer flag gave Alabama a first down. Auburn stoned an Alabama handoff, but then a pass interference flag gave Alabama yet another first down at the 2 yard line. On 1st down, Mac Jones dropped to pass, but had to throw it early towards the receiver. The ball hit Alabama receiver Najee Harris in the back, and bounced right to surprised Auburn linebacker Zakoby McClain, who set sail the other way. A big escort of Auburn players walled off any Alabama pursuit. McClain scored, 100 yards later. That was really a critical play, as instead of an 8 point Bama lead, Auburn was up by 6, 37-31.

     The interception did not appear to faze Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. He picked a tired Auburn secondary apart, making a great throw to Jaylen Waddle on a crossing pattern, and Alabama was back in front, 38-37. That was Waddle’s 3rd touchdown of the day. I sure hope Waddle decides to declare for the NFL. Auburn did not have anyone who could catch Waddle in the open field.

     The teams traded punts, then JaTarvious Whitlow had the biggest run of the day, 36 yards, to set up a possible touchdown. A sideline scuffle and personal foul flag on Auburn ended that hope, but the Tigers did get into position with a screen pass to Eli Stove, to bring in the field goal unit once again. And again, Anders Carlson was true, nailing his 4th field goal of the day. Tigers had the lead again, 40-38 as the 3rd quarter came to a close.

     On the ensuing possession, Auburn again could not stop Alabama. The Tide capped the drive with a jump ball pass to Jaylen Waddle, for his 4th touchdown of the day. Alabama led, 44-40, and appeared to be lining up to go for 2. A borderline false-start penalty backed them up, and they settled for the extra point to take a 45-40 lead, with 13:44 left in the game.

     It was do or die time for the Auburn offense, and the Tigers imposed their will. Bo Nix carried twice for 27 yards, drew a roughing the passer flag, and completed all of his passes while JaTarvious Whitlow pounded into the Alabama defense and fought for yards time and time again. Finally, it was 3rd and 5 at the Alabama 11, and Auburn went with the wildcat. The Tigers had really become predictable with that late in the season, always running off tackle to the right. Alabama dutifully shifted over. Instead, the call was a speed sweep, again to the right, but recipient Shaun Shivers had the vision to cut the ball up, and run through an Alabama defender for the touchdown. Auburn was back ahead, and there was an Alabama defender trying to find his helmet that had been knocked off in the collision. The Tigers elected to go for a 2 point conversion. Bo Nix rolled right, and completed a short pass to Shedrick Jackson, who had posted up perfectly just beyond the goal line. Auburn was up 48-45.

     Alabama got the ball back with over 8 minutes left, and it seemed that they had plenty of time. Take their time, Alabama certainly did, with a mostly ground and pound approach. Alabama was hindered by penalties on the drive, false-starting 3 times. Alabama moved to 1st and goal at the Auburn 9 yard line, then false-started again. This made it difficult on the Tide. A quarterback draw got Alabama back to the 10, then on 3rd down Alabama wanted a throw to the end zone. Auburn’s Derrick Brown wasn’t having it. He batted the pass back to Matt Jones, who tried to scramble forward, but Brown pulled him down at the 12. In came the Alabama field goal unit to tie the game up with 30 yard field goal attempt. Incredibly, the kick from Joseph Bulovas hit the left upright, and bounced away, no good!

     Auburn took over at the 20 by rule. Alabama had used up over 6 minutes on their drive, and had come up empty. Auburn ran JaTarvious Whitlow 3 times for 6 yards, eating up all of Alabama’s timeouts. Then another incredible sequence happened.

     I expected Auburn to run as much of the game clock as possible, then punt it back to Alabama with maybe a minute left in the game. Instead, Auburn lined up quickly, with the offense still out there on 4th and 4. “Has Malzahn lost his mind?” I thought. Auburn looked like they wanted to quick snap it, while the Alabama return team was coming out. The official held the snap up, because Auburn had subbed a player in, and allowed Alabama to substitute. Mass confusion reigned, as the Tide coaches realized that the player Auburn had subbed in was punter Arryn Siposs, and Siposs was lined up as a wide receiver. Alabama then tried to pull the return team back off, and get the defense back out there. Unfortunately, way deep the return man Jaylen Waddle did not get the signal in time. Alabama lined up with 12 defenders out there, and the officials threw the flag. The penalty gave Auburn a first down, and from there, Bo Nix was able to take a knee twice, and run the clock out.

     Alabama head coach Nick Saban complained about that 4th down call being unfair in his post-game press conference, but it was well within the rules. If the offense substitutes, the officials will hold the snap up and allow the defense to substitute, also. However, they won’t allow the defense to run players out there, run them back to the sideline and send more players out. A team basically has to be prompt with the substitutions, and can’t just waste time with indecision. You can’t just shuffle endlessly, while breaking down the formation the offense has lined up in.

Defensive Line: C+. This was the first game of the year where I can really say that Auburn’s defensive line was matched. Aside from Derrick Brown, no one else up front recorded a stat in the backfield, except for 1 roughing the passer penalty. Brown had 7 total tackles, including 3.5 for a loss, and 1 quarterback hurry. The line contributed 16 total tackles. This was the best offensive line Auburn has seen all year, and the Tide bunch did a really good job.

Linebackers: B+. Auburn linebackers filled holes pretty well, but lost outside contain from time to time, especially early. Zakoby McClain was all over the field, leading all tacklers with 11 total. He also returned an interception 100 yards for a score. I would not have believed any linebacker could return one 100 yards on Alabama, not with all the speed the Tide has on offense. KJ Britt and Owen Papoe were solid, as well. The linebackers were credited with 24 tackles.

Secondary: B-. This group tackled well, but drew several flags and had big trouble with Alabama speed. Smoke Monday had the only sack of the day for Auburn, and Smoke returned an interception for a touchdown. The Auburn secondary had 36 tackles.

Punting: A+. Arryn Siposs had a light day, with only a couple of punts. His decoy work on Auburn’s last 4th down might have been the play of the day. Siposs had punts 52 and 46 yards, and did not allow the ever dangerous Jaylen Waddle to return one. Bo Nix also had a 42-yard quick-kick, which unfortunately rolled in for a touchback. However, that was better than letting Waddle have any chance at it.

Punt Returns: A-. Alabama punted 3 times, and Ty Perine had a good 45-yard average. Christian Tutt was able to field 2 of those for 47 important yards. Tutt did fumble at the end of one return, but fortunately it rolled out of bounds and Auburn kept possession.

Kick Returns: B. This was a tough area to grade. Auburn’s yard per return average was only 16.0 yards, but 2 of the 3 returns were on high sky-kicks. Both teams went to this kicking strategy, and Alabama did pretty well at limiting Auburn’s opportunities and field position, for the most part. I give Auburn a B for not having any muffs.

Place Kicking: B+. I suppose I should count off for the kick return touchdown. I was expecting Anders Carlson to mortar-launch all of the kickoffs out of the end zone, and that didn’t happen. I don’t know if that was just due to an off-day, or if it was by design. I suspect the latter. After the touchdown return, Carlson did exclusively sky kicks, and Auburn did not execute those quite as well as Alabama did. If this grade was just on the field goal unit, the grade would be an A+. Daniel Carlson was perfect on 4 attempts, and Auburn ended up winning by 3 points.

Offensive Line: A. Auburn actually got some push in the middle at times, and pass protected pretty well. The line allowed no sacks, had no flags, and only 4 tackles for a loss. The line paved the way for 181 rushing yards, and a 5.3 yards per carry average.

Running Backs: B-. JaTarvious Whitlow led the way for Auburn with 114 rushing yards, but he also lost a fumble and dropped a pass. Shaun Shivers had the run of the day, scoring a touchdown after bashing an Alabama player’s helmet off. I’ve also got to give H-back Spencer Nigh a mention. He was out there a good bit, and was very helpful against Alabama’s multiple looks and blitzes.

Receivers: A. This was probably the best secondary Auburn has faced this year, yet Auburn receivers made plays. Eli Stove got key tough yards on screens. Seth Williams had 66 receiving yards and made a couple of great catches. Shedrick Jackson executed on the 2-point conversion reception. The catch of the day had to be Sal Cannella’s touchdown. Just incredible!

Quarterback: B-. This wasn’t a great day for Nix, but on the other hand he didn’t cost Auburn with turnovers. Timely running moved the chains and produced points. I have to give credit to Nix for trusting his receivers on some of those throws, and placing it where Alabama couldn’t get the ball.

     Congratulations to the Auburn team on a historic Iron Bowl win over Alabama! And also to those fans who attended and made Alabama miserable with the wall of noise. The fans really hampered Alabama communication, and were possibly the difference in the game.

     For Auburn, it is a week to savor this win, and wait for Bowl Selection time next weekend. My gut says that Auburn will likely get a Citrus or Outback bid, but we will see. There will be a good many 1 or 2 loss teams that don’t make the playoff, most likely. However, the SEC has gotten teams into the New Year’s Six with 3 or 4 losses before. I’m thinking of Ole Miss in 2014 (Peach) and 2015 (Sugar), and Auburn got into the Sugar Bowl in 2016 with 4 losses. Last season, Georgia made the Sugar Bowl with 2 losses, and both Florida and LSU got New Years Six bids (Peach and Fiesta) with 3 losses.

The Draft Was Going Perfect – Until We Ran Out of Lock

When the Oakland Raiders decided to take a lower-graded defensive end with the fourth overall pick and the New York Giants surprised everyone by taking quarterback Daniel Jones at number six, John Elway’s draft board couldn’t have looked any better.

Sitting at number ten, Elway could have chosen Devin Bush, an inside linebacker from Michigan, selected a top offensive lineman, or had his choice of any quarterback he wanted, but he didn’t.  Instead, Elway wisely traded the pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers, deciding to acquire more picks and more value to fill some glaring needs.

The Broncos haven’t had a quality tight end in years, the offensive line has struggled, no one can cover a tight end, and we’re still not sure we have a quarterback.  Elway had plenty to work on.

Passing on a player at number ten is one thing.  The question is whether Elway’s draft class made the grade.

Noah Fant (20th pick/Rd 1) TE/Iowa – In case you haven’t noticed, a pass catching tight end is paramount in today’s NFL. At 6’4 and 250 pounds, Fant has the size and speed to stretch defenses and be a game-changer for passing.  The last Bronco tight end that could do that was Julius Thomas more than six seasons ago.  A glaring need, Elway can’t be criticized for moving down and selecting the next potential, Travis Kelse, Zach Ertz, or Rob Gronkowski.  The only two issues are that Fant can’t block, and there are no first-round guarantees. Gronk and Ertz were second-round picks, and Kelse was a third. GRADE: B –

  Dalton Risner (41st pick/Rd 2) OT/Kansas St – It’s hard not to love this pick. The kid from Wiggins, Colorado is just what the Broncos need.  A tough, smart, versatile offensive lineman that can play tackle, guard, or center if necessary.  At 6’5 and 312 pounds, Risner has that perfect amount of nasty in him to compliment newly acquired Ja’Wuan James, and hopefully an improved Garret Bolles, for Mike Munchak’s group.   GRADE: A

  Drew Lock (42nd pick/Rd 2) QB/Missouri – Elway passed on

Lock at pick ten, passed again at pick 20, and then moved up ten spots to grab him at pick 42? I’d love to believe that Elway cleverly found his quarterback of the future at bargain basement prices, but that’s simply not the case.  This was an awful pick for multiple reasons.  The only team that was possibly going to take Lock this high was the New England Patriots, but they ended up selecting Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham–91 picks later!  The Broncos passed on quality players such as LB Jahlani Tavai (Hawaii), CB Greedy Williams (LSU), and top receivers like JJ Arega-Whiteside (Stanford) or Parris Campbell (Ohio State).  I get the value, but there’s a reason Lock was passed over until the second round.  Since 2015, the only quarterbacks drafted in round two have been DeShone Kizer and Christian Hackenberg.  In the last twenty years, the only quarterbacks picked in the 40s were Jimmy Clausen, Pat White, John Beck, Drew Stanton, and Kellen Clemens.  That’s not very reassuring.  GRADE: D

Dre’Monte Jones (71st pick/Rd 3) DT/Ohio State – Jones makes sense at this stage in the draft. A run-stopper in the middle, and an insurance policy to take the place of Derrick Wolfe, who probably won’t be around much longer based on his salary. Grade: B

  Justin Hollins (156th pick/Rd 5) OLB/Oregon and Juwan Winfree (187 pick/Rd 6) WR/Colorado. – Hollins is a linebacker who looks to have the speed and size to cover tight ends. Elway apparently was reviewing game film of last year’s San Francisco game before the pick.  Winfree caught only 60 passes in his career, but at least we know he can play at altitude.  GRADE: C-

My overall grade for Elway and company is a C+ as I get the Fant pick and love Risner.  But I can’t get over Drew Lock at 42.  With teams like Washington, Miami, the Giants, and Arizona selecting QBs, only Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, and maybe the Raiders will still be looking when next year’s draft comes around.  With Justin Herbert (Oregon), Jake Fromme (Georgia), and Tua Tagovailova (Alabama) coming out in 2020, has Denver already committed to the future with Lock?

Jack Knight of the World Remains Link 3 LIGHT Cyberse Effect Monster ATK 3000 Links: Bottom Left, Bottom, Bottom Right Materials: 2+ “Jack Knight” monsters You can only use the (3)rd effect of this card’s name once per turn. (1) While there are no cards in the same column as this card, it can attack directly. (2) While this card in the extra monster zone is not pointing to a card, it cannot be destroyed by effects or targeted by opponent’s card effects. (3) You can send 1 card you control in the same column as this card to the graveyard; special summon 1 “Jack Knights” card from your deck in face-up defense position.

     This card is a high price, and restricts your zones a bit.

     If you don’t summon in three of your zones then you have a ‘Apoqliphort              Towers’ like boss monster. You can send any monsters still in this card’s              column or any backrow set behind this monster to summon a “Jack Knight”          from the deck.

     This card is hard to summon, but it is really good. A high attack untargetable,       indestructable, that can summon more monsters is really good. 

Jack Knight of the Blue Sky Level 5 LIGHT Psychic Effect Monster ATK/2000 DEF/2500 This card’s name can only be summoned by its (1)st effect once per turn, and this card’s name’s (2)nd effect can only be used once per turn. (1) If a column has 2 or more cards in it, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand) to that column. (2) If this card is Normal or Special Summoned from the hand: You can add from your Deck to your hand “Jack Knight” cards with different names, except “Jack Knight of the Blue Sky” equal to the number of your opponent’s cards in the same column as this card.

     Column include both yours and your opponent’s field so if they have a                  monster and a set card behind them then you can summon these cards in            that column. And all “Jack Knight”s monsters share this effect so I’ll ignore it        from here on. This means that the deck can be proactive, while playing off of      the opponent, but it means that recovery is harder than normal.

     You could search between 1-2 cards on this monster’s summon. That’s pretty      good. A Stratos for the deck that is not hard to summon is quite good. 

Jack Knight of the Green Heights Level 6 LIGHT Psychic Effect Monster ATK 2100 DEF 1600 This card’s name can only be Special Summoned by its (1)st effect once per turn. (1) If a column has 2 or more cards in it, you can special summon this card (from your hand) to that column. (2) When this card declares an attack on an opponent’s monster in the same column as it: You can target 1 “Jack Knight” monster in your Graveyard; add that monster to your hand.

     This card adds back on declaration so it can attack monsters with higher              attack, but still be able to add back resources. Not bad at all, all these                  monsters being LIGHT means you can play ‘Honest’ and declaring an attack        while bluffing ‘Honest’ is a good way to play mind games with your opponent.

Jack Knight of the Flickering Flame Level 6 LIGHT Psychic Effect Monster ATK 800 DEF 3000 This card’s name can only be Special Summoned by its (1)st effect once per turn. (1) If a column has 2 or more cards in it, you can special summon this card (from your hand) to that column. (2) If an opponent’s card that’s in the same column as this card leaves the field or is destroyed by battle: You can Special Summon 1 “Jack Knight” monster from your hand.

      Field presence is something that this deck might struggle with in the early           game, but cards like this that make going into Rank 5s and 6s and 7s easier       and help get the “Jack Knight”s effects to go off is really nice.

Jack Knight of the Yellow Bloom Level 7 LIGHT Psychic Effect Monster ATK 2200 DEF 2800 This card’s name can only be Special Summoned by its (1)st effect once per turn. (1) If a column has 2 or more cards in it, you can special summon this card (from your hand) to that column. (2) Banish 1 “Jack Knight” monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 Spell/Trap Card in the same column as this card; destroy that card.

      Meh, this card is not great. It requires grave setup and only pops spells and         traps in it’s own column. I don’t see this seeing much play as the other “Jack       Knight”s are all better.

Jack Knight of the Crimson Lotus Level 7 LIGHT Psychic Effect Monster ATK 2300 DEF 2600 This card’s name can only be Special Summoned by its (1)st effect once per turn. (1) If a column has 2 or more cards in it, you can special summon this card (from your hand) to that column. (2) You can banish 1 “Jack Knight” monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 face-up monster in the same column as this card; destroy that monster.

      This is very similar to Yellow Bloom as it is restricted to it’s own column               requires graveyard setup. But this card not only Targets, but it also Destroys,       both things that get worse every time a new untargetable card or archetype         gets released and when more and more monsters have effects on                      destruction.

Jack Knight of the Purple Dusk Level 8 LIGHT Psychic Effect Monster ATK 2500 DEF 2000 This card’s name can only be Special Summoned by its (1)st effect once per turn, and this card’s (2)nd effect can only be used once per turn. (1) If a column has 2 or more cards in it, you can special summon this card (from your hand) to that column. (2) (Quick Effect): You can target 1 “Jack Knight” monster you control; banish that monster until your next Standby Phase, then add 1 “Jack Knight” monster from your Deck to your hand, except “Jack Knight of the Purple Dusk”.

      By losing some field presence you can search another monster, and then             you can summon that monster to the place where you banished the first              monster from. Then when the banished card comes back it can return to any      zone which is really good. That’s pretty good. I like the utility that this gives to      the archetype. 

Scars Left by the World Legacy Field Spell Card (1) “Jack Knight” monsters gain 300 ATK and DEF. (2) Once per turn: You can discard 1 “Jack Knight” monster or “World Legacy” card; draw 1 card. (3) You can banish 6 different “Jack Knight” monsters from your Graveyard and/or face-up on your side of the field; send all cards in your opponent’s hand and in their Extra Deck to the Graveyard.

      The attack gain is just there to be there, just like on nearly all other field               spells.

     The discard to draw effect is nice. It sets up the grave with “Jack Knight”s            monsters and it works with the “World Legacy” cards too.

     The 3rd effect is insane to pull off, but it requires you to banish a lot of                  resources from the grave, but removing your opponent’s hand and extra deck      is amazing. It feels like a win more effect b/c if you have enough field                    presence along with all those cards in the grave then you’ve probably already      won the game.

Key to the World Legacy Continuous Spell Card (1) When this card is activated: You can target 1 of your banished “Jack Knight” monsters or “World Legacy” cards; add that card to the hand. (2) If you control a “Jack Knight” monster, the activated effects of your opponent’s Trap Cards in the same column as that monster are negated.

     Adding back banished cards is really good. Especially since Crimson Lotus          and Yellow Bloom banish “Jack Knight”s to activate their effects.

     Stopping traps is really good, making it so that your opponent cannot                    resolve ‘Solemn Strike’ or ‘Dimensional Barrier’ is really powerful. 

     Also if your opponent puts their backrow and monsters in different columns          you can activate this in the same column as the backrow then summon                a “Jack Knight”.

Whispers of the World Legacy Continuous Trap Card (1) When this card is activated: You can target 1 Level 6 or higher monster on the field; that monster gains 1000 ATK and DEF until the end of the turn. (2) If you control a “Jack Knight” monster, the activated effects of your opponent’s Spell Cards in the same column as that monster are negated.

     The attack gain is nice, but it does not really matter. Stopping spells in the            column is really powerful though. If you can put enough “Jack Knight”s in            board and set this card in the right zone then you can really shut down your        opponent. 

The True Depths Sleeping Inside The World Legacy Continuous Trap Card (1) When this card is activated: You can target 1 Level 5 or higher monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that monster. When this card leave the field, destroy that monster. (2) If you control a “Jack Knight” monster, the activated effects of monsters your opponent controls in the same column as that monster are negated.

     A ‘Call of the Haunted’ that is generic for any high level monster “Jack Knight”     or “World Legacy”.

    Stopping monster effects is also really good and this card being placed in the       same column as the Extra Monster Zone can really slow down your                     opponent. 

This archetype looks really good. They can use ‘Honest’ to run over high attack monsters and can use ‘Transmodify’ and ‘Downbeat’ to cycle through their varying levels while having really good spells and traps that if you read your opponent right can really lock them down. 

The biggest problem is that they are column-based and therefore have a naturally higher skill floor in order to succeed, but overall they look really good.

Pathfinder Campaign Character Reflection

Session 0

Context:  A party name has finally been chosen, so you know what that means??? The return of character reflections! This time, following Ren Mithendril, an elven wizard who is haunted in more ways than one, in the desert region of Ko Bulsar. 

Ren was expelled from the College of Delynwerth under circumstances she will not say. Her earnest classmate, Persephone Cromwell, followed her, eager to prove her “innocence.” Captured by the bounty hunter, Sloan, Ren and Percy were brought to Del Ferram, a militaristic and corrupt prison, where Ren shared a cell with Willow Blackwell (@fiona-clawton), a sticky-fingered and fast-talking rogue, and Percy was treated as a guest while waiting for her family to retrieve her. 

And this is where we begin…

It’s been a month here. Stuck. Trapped. Waiting. I don’t know where Percy is. Probably back home by now. She never should have followed me. Why did she follow me? To what end? So brave and naive... What a waste of her time.

 I cannot be here any longer. I watch my cellmate, Willow, and her restless fingers. She watches, searches, calculates. I believe she’s looking for the same thing I am: a way out. Perhaps we can use each other.

The hunger eats at my throat. I taste it always in my mouth. I hear it pounding in my ears. I try to swallow it. It’s all I can do. But I will not let them take me back. My foot is stuck in a trap, and I will gnaw my own leg off to escape.

Chicago Bears 2017 Draft Grade

Here is the Draft grades for the Chicago Bears, again I will go through every player selected

The Bears made a huge move to start out, trading away a pair of 3rd round selections to move up one spot and take North Carolina Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. The price is high for a move up of one spot, but Trubisky has all the athletic tools to be a success and he showed the intelligence, accuracy and mobility to start right away at the pro level. The Bears 2nd round selection is massive tight end Adam Shaheen form Ashland. Shaheen shows off top notch size for an NFL tight end at over 270 pounds, but Shaheen was the best receiving tight end in Division 2 often running by safeties and boxing out linebackers to make the tough catch. Shaheen has the tools to start right away with the strength to be a top notch blocker and should see considerable playing time. Eddie Jackson, safety from Alabama was the 1st of the Bears 2 4th round selections. Jackson was considered one of the top safety prospects, considered a top notch playmaking safety in the nations top defense before having a serious leg injury halfway thru the season. Jackson shows tremendous speed for a safety (he started off at corner for the Crimson tide) and is fearless in run defense. A great athlete from one of the best defenses Jackson could see some playing time during his rookie season. The next 4th round pick for the Bears is scatback Tarik Cohen from North Carolina A&T. If you want to watch a fun set of highlights put on Tarik Cohens senior highlights, Cohen has above average speed and vision but the reason he was selected was his top notch receiving ability and unparalleled agility to make defenders miss in the open field with ease. Obviously undersized, but Cohen could be deadly in small doses and could turn into a Darren Sproles like offensive weapon as a rookie. The final pick of the Bears 2017 draft is Jordan Morgan, guard from Kutztown. Morgan has good long arms that allowed him to play tackle for most of his college career, he has very active feet in pass protection along with very active hands. Morgan has some issues with moving around larger defenders and his level of play will be a major issue but he has the tools to flourish as a pulling guard or in a zone system. Several issues will need to come up in order for Morgan to see significant snaps as a rookie. The Bears overall draft grade is tied heavily to the play of top pick Mitchell Trubisky, though the Bears could have as many as 4 rookies see starting time next year while giving the Bears new franchise Quarterback the tools and weapons to be a success sooner rather than later. I love the selections of Tarik Cohen and Adam Shaheen for the offense but Eddie Jackson on the defensive side could turn into a team leader in the secondary very soon. Obviously the Bears gave away 2 3rd rounders to move up 1 spot but the rest of the draft had several good value selections saving this class overall. My final grade for the Bears 2017 draft would be a B-
