EVOKERS :  A STUDY & HEADCANON.
i found this study on my old minako blog and while i never want to touch that again with a 10 foot pole bc you can tell i was seventeen when i last wrote on it i still think this headcanon is metal as fuck. please enjoy.
as weapons of fatigue and trauma, the evoker, created and manufactured by the kirijo group of japan, is a gunlike weapon that uses psychological trauma as ammunition, forcing stress and terror onto the user. evokers cannot be used if the user is terrified or not completely confident in their decision to use the weapon, ergo their decision to sacrifice their life.
the ammunition used in the evoker is only relevant to the person that fires the trigger of the evoker; should an evoker be shot at another, a persona will not be summoned, or ‘evoked’, but the same psychological trauma will be experienced. the images seen and fatigue experienced will be those of the person that shot it, so the mental deterioration will be to a lesser extent. this tactic is never used for shadow elimination, and rarely used in a person-person battle, but there is evidence that this has been used as a method of torture.
the stance one takes when summoning their persona defines the arcana in which their persona will take. for example, sanada akihiko of the emperor arcana, uses a flipped, almost back-handed stance when summoning his persona. takeba yukari, of the lovers arcana, grips her evoker with both hands and places it at the front of her forehead.
those of the wild card/fool arcana will switch their stances accordingly with each arcana change. If the user changes from one persona to the next, and the arcana of the personas do not change, the stance will not change.
the recoil of the use of the evoker does not initially cause physical pain unless the user undergoes evoker use multiple times in rapid succession– an example of this would be S.E.E.S. and their long and frequent trips to tartarus. after extreme or extensive user of the evoker, the user would begin to feel whiplash and headaches. after years of use, the user could suffer intense spinal or cranial damage due to the force in which the evoker fires.
through extensive use of the evoker, it is not uncommon that a developing teenage mind could develop mental illnesses, especially if one is already developed, such as childhood autism, ADHD/ADD, or excess anxiety. the most commonly recorded disorder to be developed through evoker usage is post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to the ammunition used in the evoker, but there have been reports of bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia (in its many forms), and hallucinatory sleep disorder.
physical effects of the evoker usage include but are not limited to:
- glazed eyes & blurred vision immediately after firing - bloodshot/hollowed eyes - hollowed/sunken-in cheeks - dark circles around eyes - shaking hands - creaking/excessively popping joints - sudden adrenaline rushes - hot flashes - mood swings - hormone switches
evoker addiction has had some evidence in the kirijo group’s initial testing of the hardware; some of the deceased subjects of the first test (the test in which the group now known as strega were the survivors), before their passing, grew to become addicted to the adrenaline rushes caused by the use of the weapon– a side-effect of the trauma as experienced by the user. treatment for evoker addiction can range from gradually extending time of separation of user and weapon to memory erasure or medication. evoker addiction can, and usually will, lead to a disconnection or murderous relationship between user and persona, with the persona dealing physical harm/attempting to kill/successfully murdering their user either during evoker use/relapses or when the user has been permanently separated from their evoker. This kind of side-effect can be treated with persona-suppressing medication, though it rarely is.
