I like _some_ competition or non-competition based reality shows, if the subject of the show itself is something that interests me, and (in the case of competition-based) the stakes are not overly high. If the competition gets _too_ competitive I tend to lose interest again. (I like UK Masterchef a lot more than US, because the format is much less competitive. AUS&NZ Masterchef have a similar format to US, but are still better because the contestants/judges/editing are much more chill). Mostly what I really do like is watching people who are very good at a thing do that thing, with detailed explanations of what they're doing. In a lot of highly competitive shows the focus is much more on the competitive element rather than people doing their thing. So really Professional Masterchef (UK) and Great British Menu are some of the best things around to watch if The Thing is cooking.
