The Other Bash: Remembering The International Bash 1989
The Other Bash: Remembering The International Bash 1989
Brian Damage Many times in the past on this blog we have talked ad nauseam about how Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation expanded nationally killing territorial wrestling in its path. The territories that were fortunate enough to survive, would usually join forces in some capacity to stave off being swallowed up by the WWF. In doing so, these territories would put on ‘Super Cards’…

Note
I want to be a student of the game so I have decided to start taking notes on wrestling matches but im not sure how. if you personally were to create a template for notes should be, how would you set it up?
It’s difficult to explain without knowing what it is exactly that you’re going for. What I like to do, when I learn about wrestlers, is figure out how they’re all intertwined. For example, say you watch a Triple H match. I’d do some research about Triple H and find out about his past feuds, then learn about each one of those guys, then learn about their history and who they’ve worked with. For example:
1995: Triple H Vs. Henry Godwinn> Henry Godwinn teamed with Phineas Godwinn> Phineas Godwinn worked in WCW> Phineas Godwinn was later known as Mideon> Mideon became Naked Mideon> Henry Godwinn nearly returned to the WWE in 2006> The Godwinns were managed by Sunny briefly, which led to one of my favorite WWF Magazine covers
1996: Triple H Vs. Marc Mero> Feud begins when Marc Mero stands up for Sable> Sable is the first WWF lady to be in Playboy> Marc Mero is the first wrestler to be given a guaranteed contract in the WWF> Marc Mero was Johnny B. Badd in WCW> Marc Mero is now a popular motivational speaker> Sable is a former WWF Women’s Champion> Sable is the reason behind Tori’s debut> Tori was in D-Generation X in late 1999 through early 2000
1997: Triple H Vs. Mankind> Mankind was Cactus Jack in WCW> Cactus Jack was originally Cactus Jack Manson> Cactus Jack had chaotically violent matches with Terry Funk and Dr. Death> Mankind was allies with Paul Bearer> Mankind was part of the “New Generation” in the WWF
1998: Triple H Vs. The Rock> Prior to his feud with Triple H, The Rock feuded with Steve Austin and Ken Shamrock> The Rock is a third generation wrestler, as he’s the son of Rocky Johnson and the grandson of Peter Maivia (hence his name when he debuted, Rocky Maivia)> The Rock was once known as Flex Kavana, and feuded in USWA with Jerry Lawler
This is all just stuff from memory, but you get the point. For me, it’s interesting to know everything I can about a professional wrestler, from their title history to their upbringing to how they debuted to who they got to work with, etc. I love knowing little tidbits, like that The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express faced The British Bulldogs, that New Jack has faced The Undertaker, that Balls Mahoney was Xanta Claus, etc. There’s so much to know about professional wrestling, and I’m incorrigible on a 4-7 hour car ride because I beg for knowledge about wrestling. It’s not a bad thing to be into, especially with the way the world’s going and how people treat each other. In fact, I’d say it’s one of the coolest hobbies to have, because you meet amazing people and there are so many artists in wrestling today, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
I’m glad to see that you want to be a student of the game, and I appreciate that you love professional wrestling. Any time you want to talk wrestling with me, hit me up. I’m happy to talk off anon and won’t post anything you don’t want me to, and I’m more than happy to gush about my first love. :)

The British Bulldogs Vs. The Rock ‘N’ Roll Express International Bash [February 2nd, 1989]
I’m a sucker for rare encounters like this one. Fresh off of a tour of AJPW and just before returning to Canada for Stampede Wrestling, The British Bulldogs head to the United States where they locked horns with the beloved Rock ‘N’ Roll Express. Of course, the typical RNR formula is implemented as the Bulldogs focus on taking Ricky Morton out through most of the match, but the crowd had clearly never seen it in person as they’re hot from the get-go. Despite that, however, the fans are hot when Robert Gibson finally gets the tag in out of nowhere, breaking down the Bulldogs with a house of fire and giving the fans something to scream for!
