I’m gonna say something weird and hope someone understands me...Barney Fife is what happens when someone has an inherent personality similar to Frank Burns but is loved and cared for.

#he’s pathetic but he thinks he’s the biggest macho man in town #he’s a stickler for rules even when they don’t make sense #(most notable example is the episode about the speed limit)#he has to keep his bullet in his pocket so he doesn’t accidentally shoot someone #he’s fooled into thinking criminals are secretly FBI #he thinks he can rise in the ranks and make it on his own. he can’t.#BUT HE’S LOVED !#he’s given the opportunity to learn from his mistakes instead of turning on everyone to feel powerful like frank does #and he often doesn’t admit when he was wrong #MOST OF THE TIME he doesn’t admit when he was wrong #but he’s still loved…#aough #I’m spending another monday morning taking a comedy show too seriously…#mash #m*a*s*h #frank burns #the andy griffith show #barney fife #mine #did i mention how insecure they both are???

On the Case of the Jealous Journalist, Parley Baer and Denver Pyle both appear. They both have appeared on several episodes of Perry Mason. The interesting thing is that they both, also, appeared on the Andy Griffith Show. Parley Baer was Mayor Stoner, and Denver Pyle was Briscoe Darling. I find that to be an interesting parallel, don't you?

They both transformed from gentlemen to country folk quite nicely.
