October 19: Writing Plans for the Rest of the Year
I had a very nice autumnal hour sitting outside the new Starbucks with a pumpkin spice latte and pumpkin bread after work. The Starbucks is in such a weird location: it itself is pretty adorable but it's literally right on the road and there's a fair amount of traffic, which is kind of disorienting. I realize that sounds very normal but my other coffee shops are in pedestrian only and partially closed off streets so I'm really not used to cars so close.
Anyway, I did some thinking about where I am writing wise. I can see a clear path ahead for about a month, then it gets murkier.
Here's where I am/the plan coming up.
Troped Horror Exchange: I've written about a third of this, probably a bit less. That's not great but I'm planning/hoping to get a big chunk done this weekend. Overall I'm not really worried about not finishing, I'm worried about not having time to do anything ELSE. I won't love if this is my sole contribution this Halloween but still the most important thing is honoring my commitments so it will remain prio #1 until it's finished. No matter what, this will be done by the time November rolls around.
Halloween Ficlets: I really, really wanted to write ficlets this year and I still do. I'm going to try. 'Hauntings' won my little poll, so I've been following that idea, brainstorming, and planning some things out. As I said, I think there's a possibility I'll need to go all the way to Halloween with Troped. Even if I don't, I'd still be writing these last minute, so most likely optimistic scenario is they all post on Halloween or over the 30th/31st. I've basically decided that if I start the series I'll let myself go into the beginning of November to finish it. I did that in 2019; it's unideal but fine. But if I haven't even started or if it's going really poorly, I'll scrap the whole thing. Again, in one way or another, this will be off my to-do list as of the beginning of November.
Make a Lot of Money and Feel Dead Inside: The plan was always to get back to this after I finish the Halloween stuff, make it my first priority, and finish it "as soon as possible." I've firmed that up a little bit. I want to use this project for CalmWriMo and set myself the completely reasonable and attainable goal of finishing it by the end of the month. I only have 10 scenes left to write. There's a lot of editing still, but the writing is, I think, not too bad. I think it might even be possible that I finish with time to spare (will I regret typing that? lol). But basically, this is my November project.
...And now it's late November/early December. Here's the thing about this part of the year. First off, I have a huge Thanksgiving break, so potentially a lot of writing time there. And I'm going to see my family for Christmas as usual, so there is free time there as well. But on the other hand, it's dark, it's cold, it's busy.... I don't know. It's hard to predict how much writing energy I'll have.
And the second thing: it's a heavy 'event time.' Last year I had literally zero events for the first time in years and I anticipate 2023 will be the same. I still become very tempted to do, like, personal holiday events like a ficmas or an end of year thing but LBR fluff is not my strong suit as a writer. I can do it, I'm not being disparaging about myself, but I don't really care to churn out happy, sappy, romantic, conflict-less narratives. So, objectively, it would be better to just go back to the WIPs at this point.
But I like events, I like the holidays, I like special things. I don't know. I'll probably mull that over more starting in November, if I want to do SOMETHING, maybe a look to next year's projects or like some small fics or something, I don't know, or if I just want to go back to some other project to get a head start on 2024.
I like having a plan ahead of time because I really get stuck with the tyranny of choice. Like, I can't double think anything in my life. I have to just do things without thinking or I'll cease to want to do them. Writing included. So I don't want to finish Money and go like ??? what now? But I also don't want to plan too far ahead and tell myself I have to do or should do such-and-such a project and then I'm not remotely in that mood when the end of November rolls around. So.
But it will be nice to kind of have a blank slate again? Like a blank slate of my 50-ish ideas? I don't know. Money came out of nowhere and hit me in the face and I love it and am proud of it but it also just completely took over my life for about 9 weeks? And now I'm frantically trying to make horror season work. So really the last time I thought about the WIPs was mid-July. It has...been a while.

Meet Nanami. A shy, selectively mute “witch” who spends most of her time tending to plants and making herbal medicines. She has a fascination with the ocean and occasionally daydreams about what it would be like to explore the waters. More info under the cut!
Basic Info
Real Name: Nanami Nami Age: 26 as of SHB Race: Dunesfolk Lalafell Sexuality: Bisexual Guardian Deity: Nophica, the Matron Main classes: WHM, SMN (purely for her familiar) DOL/DOH: BTN, ALC, a dream of being FSH Voice Claim: Nao Tōyama (Reina Prowler in Macross Delta, Chitose from Nisekoi, Lyria from Granblue Fantasy)
Personality
MBTI: ISFP Enneagram: Type 9 Wing 1 (The Dreamer) Temperament: Phlegmatic Alignment: Neutral Good
Nanami is soft; marshmallow soft. Introverted to the nth degree, she has no real experience in dealing with other people outside of those who have run a select few shops that she's patroned for years - and even then, she can't meet their eyes. She suffers from selective mutism, meaning words are few and far between in regards to anyone but herself for the most part. However, with enough time and trust, it's possible that you might hear an answer or two rather than see it with your eyes.
Because she knows that she can't function through life (alone or otherwise) without "speaking", Nanami is able to combine her magic with her aether to speak by drawing or writing in the air - she often chooses drawing, as it allows for quicker responses.
When observed from afar, Nanami's true character can be seen; gentle, and extremely caring of those around her. She handles plants and flowers as though they're her family, and more often than not will she end up somewhat red-eyed and sniffly when using a plant for herbal medicines.
Backstory
An orphan from birth, Nanami has lived her life in self-inflicted isolation. The other children of the orphanage were never very kind to her, given that she couldn't speak, was more interested in the weeds growing from the ground than the game they were playing, and often felt sick when in the sun. Of course, children can be cruel, and it would be a lie to say if she wasn't bullied because of it; this only led her to isolate herself more in the long run.
It was discovered at a young age that she was proficient in white magics, and thus spent a long amount of time training under E-Sumi-Yan to hone her skills; thanks to this, he is one of few people who Nanami is able to speak to normally, though only when nobody else is around. She now uses these magics in conjuncture with her "witch magic" to produce various potions and medicines to sell for income.
Nanami lives far within the woods of the Black Shroud, in a small cottage that she had built by herself. When adventurers, wounded or otherwise, would come seeking shelter and aid, she would offer it under few conditions; one, that they understand she would only be around them to administer care and meals. Two, that before they left, they repair a part of her cottage that was in disarray, as her own craftsmanship was fairly shoddy. Thanks to this, her cottage is much more stable than when it had been made.
Stats
Strength: 3/10 Offense:  5/10 Defense: 7/10 Speed:  4/10 Durability: 6/10 Accuracy: 5/10 Agility: 4/10 Stamina: 3/10 Teamwork: 9/10 Stealth: 2/10 Magic: 10/10 Healing: 10/10
Nanami is a healer in all forms of the word; from healing magics to shielding magics, and even homemade potions, she functions as a pure supportive role in the heat of battle. Of course, she'd very much prefer not to fight at all if possible, but she's well aware that that simply isn't the case in this world.
Because she often gets uncomfortable in the sun, Nanami is never found without a massively large hat to mitigate the effects - leading to a hard drop in combative accuracy, as the rim of the hat will often block the far off view. Her close combat skills are basically nonexistent, which can sometimes lead to her being more of a liability if she's unable to protect herself in time. To say she fears these scenarios more than death would be an understatement.
Other headcanons
Could probably sing fairly well if she didn’t suffer from psychological issues.
Has a floating ferret familiar named Ren and a fat cat named Mr. Pibbles.
Has a love/hate relationship with spring - she loves seeing the plants flourish, but hates the allergies that come with them.
Paints as a hobby, but she hides all her artwork in a loose floorboard because she’s embarrassed about it.
Somewhat good at figuring things out on the fly, but her anxiety leads her to second guessing herself almost instantly.
She loves fruits in all forms, especially in drinks.
Fell in love with the ocean after visiting Costa Del Sol once with the orphanage - she wants to visit again, especially on a clear night.
Blind as a bat; she can’t even find her glasses in the morning after waking up - Ren has to put them on his back and bring them to her.
She knows sign language! She just doesn’t use it often because her art conveys things easier to those who don’t.
Aesthetics
Scents: Baked apples, cinnamon, flower shops, rose water Colors: Grayscale, dark purples and reds Animals: Deer, crows, squirrels Clothing: Long dresses, cloaks, large hats, circle frames, long sleeves, layered shirts, long socks Others: Autumn leaves crunching underfoot, candlelight, the faint sounds of a piano from another room, bird calls, whispers
Mun Notes
First and foremost, I want to say that selective mutism isn’t choosing to be mute - honestly, the term is very poorly named, imo. The link the phrase directs to has a few examples that accurately describe Nanami’s condition:
Twenty-six-year-old Hannah is only able to speak with her parents. In other situations like school, where she’s interacting with a larger group of people who she is less familiar with, her words get stuck, and even though she wants to speak, nothing comes out.
For interactions with Nanami, I know it’s hard to portray her when she’s unable to speak, so people are free to have her talk in sets. But she’s very quiet/soft, and pauses a lot. Ellipses are her best friend tbh.
Her design uses a custom face dds that I edited from Mint’s that I don’t mind giving to people who want to pose her if they ask ;w;

Your alarm clock rang exactly at 8.30 the next morning and you still had time to get ready for your 10 o'clock lecture with Professor Winchester and get a coffee at the little café around the corner of your flat. You had escaped from the dormitory since the third semester and now lived in your own four walls. You earned your living by waiting tables at a well-known restaurant in town.
You locked the door behind you and leaned against it for a moment while breathing in the fresh morning air. The dew of autumn was still on the green meadows and it was pleasantly warm. Birds were chirping and the sun was shining its golden glow on the slowly colouring leaves. A smile crept up your lips. It was the perfect second day of your senior year at college. And you wanted to enjoy it. This was going to be your year.
"Carpe diem. Seize the day." you mumbled with a smile before you shouldered your bag and walked off. Your flat was a little further away from college and you were finally going to get your coffee. A few minutes later, you entered your favorite café and inhaled the smell of freshly brewed coffee and cookies. There wasn't much going on, because it was more of an insider tip. Most students got their coffee at Starbucks in the city or directly in the cafeteria. You joined the queue. Then your cell phone started ringing. Surprised, you rummaged through your bag but couldn't find it and instead your notebook fell out. Quickly you bent down to pick it up when it already happened. A man ran into you and poured his hot coffee over you.
You swore unpleasantly when the coffee ruined your white top. The hot coffee ran down your hands and dripped to the floor. You gasped indignantly for breath. "Damn it!" you cursed and reached for a napkin to wipe your hands. "Oh, my God. I'm so sorry! I-I didn't see you, and..." you heard a deep voice stammer nervously. You sighed in annoyance. "It's all right." You muttered, but when you looked up, you paused in amazement. Your gaze caught in the most beautiful hazel eyes you had ever seen. He was in his early thirties, wearing a light-grey knitted sweater and underneath it the collar of a white shirt was sticking out. Long brown hair framed his striking face and you saw the worry in his eyes. "I -" He fell silent and bent down to pick up your notebook and wiped it on his trousers. "Here." He handed it to you and looked at you with an embarrassed look. "Thank you." "I'm really so sorry. I'll pay for the damages. I'm, uh... I'm Sam." He offered you his hand, which you took in a trance. "Hi. I'm Y/N," you said, forcing you to smile. He returned it a little shyly, and you melted away. "Nice to meet you, Y/N. I - uh. I should really get going. I'd love to buy you a cup of coffee. As an apology. O-or a tea. Or whatever you like." You wiped the smirk off your face because of his clumsiness. He was really embarrassed.
He took one glance at his watch and cursed. "I really have to go now. The offer for the coffee stands, Y/N. I'll see you then." he said goodbye in a hurry and ran off. As quickly as he came, he was gone. You watched him hurry down the street while his brown hair flew in the wind until he turned the corner and you lost sight of him. Only then did you realize that you didn't know how to find him again.  He hadn't given you his number or anything.
With a sigh you took a look at the mess on your shirt. Your lecture would begin in a few minutes. But you had to change urgently, because you couldn't show up in class like that. The new professor would throw you out on your ass if you appeared like this in his lecture! The day could only get better from now on.
You arrived at the lecture almost twenty minutes late. Quietly you looked for a place further in the back and began to take your things out of your bag and put them on the table. You listened to the lecture with half an ear only.
"We will devote this year mainly to epics. Aeneas, Odysseus and Iliad. We will also take a closer look at Latin poetry. Please obtain the following books on Catullus and Ovid. I can recommend Latin for the Illiterati edition 2. As a dictionary I ask you to use this one." You had eagerly taken notes and now for the first time raised your eyes to see which book the professor meant. You almost choked when you saw the man in the front of the lecture hall. Your breath stopped. There was Sam! The Sam who had just spilled coffee on you. His gaze wandered over the students, and when he got stuck on you, the book almost fell out of his hand. He just caught it again and cleared his throat embarrassed.
"Do you have any more questions about the topics we're going to study?" he asked around and you noticed the pink blush on his cheeks. He avoided looking in your direction for the rest of the lecture. Embarrassment and shame circulated in your body and you concentrated on making a proper transcript so as not to have to look up again. Awkward. Your professor had just spilled coffee over you and finally invited you in for coffee! The worst thing was that you found him really cute. You would like to say that this feeling had died, but unfortunately he was still pretty hot.
Your professor's coughing tore you from your confused thoughts. "I'm glad you all could come in such large numbers today. The lesson today served as an introduction. Please purchase the requested materials with which we will work until the next lecture. Then we will begin with Catullus. I look forward to the year with you. That's it for today." he concluded today's lecture. Immediately your fellow students began to pack up, but you stayed and watched as Professor Winchester brushed the brown strands of hair from his face and collected his personal belongings.
The lecture hall emptied slowly and then Professor Winchester looked up. You summoned up all your courage and walked over to him. Hurriedly he took the sheet of paper with the names and looked for your first name to find out your full name. "Ms L/N. How can I help you?" he asked a little louder as the last student left the hall. "It's about the coffee, Sa- Professor Winchester." He nodded and smiled at you politely, albeit restrained. "Of course. What is it?" he asked while turning off the beamer and stowing the remote control. "I wasn't sure if you were still- I mean, if this is somehow weird for you, then-" You fell silent nervously, searching for the right words. "Don't worry, Ms. L/N. Professors and students are allowed to have coffee together. I promised to return the favor, and I keep my promises. So the offer still stands. If that's not a problem for you?" He questioned. You nodded and thought for a moment. It certainly couldn't hurt to get to know your professor a little better, after all you had to get along with him all year round. It certainly wouldn't be conducive to have such an embarrassing event standing between the two of you.
"Um, well - yes, of course. When would it be best for you?" you asked and gave him a smile, which he returned immediately. He pulled his mobile out of his pocket and went through his schedule. "I have my first lecture tomorrow around 8.30am," he said. "How about 10:00 at Old Queen's?" You shook your head regretfully. "My classes start at 9:45. So maybe 2:00 then?" This time it was up to him to shake his head. "Ah, I'm afraid I can't do that. How about 4:00?" You nodded slowly. "Yes, I can do that." He smiled at you again and put his phone away.
"Well, I'm looking forward to it,  Y/N - uh, Ms L/N." He looked away embarrassed and cleared his throat. Your name sounded special when he pronounced it with his deep voice, but you ignored the warm feeling in your stomach. "Me too. I'll see you there?" "Yeah, sure. " For a moment there was an awkward silence between you, where neither of you knew what to say, then you started talking at the same time. "Cool." "So then-" You broke it off laughing. "You first," he said laughing. You noticed how his beautiful eyes crinkled at the corners and that his nose turned slightly up, when he laughed. "See you, then. Have a nice day, Professor." "Thank you, Ms. L/N. I'll see you tomorrow."
Your thoughts rushed through your mind as you left the lecture hall in a hurry, leaving Sam Winchester behind.

- October 11th 2020 -
When was the last time you went out of state? About a week and a half ago.
And where did you go? Johns Hopkins Hospital for my neuro-otology and audiology appointments.
What does the 6th text in your inbox say? I'll just look at the most recent thread (since phones don't have flip-phone style inboxes anymore)... it was a link to a news article.
Do you even like the person who sent you that text? Yes, I definitely do.
Do you have more than one best friend? No.
In public restrooms, do you flush the toilet with your foot? If I can easily do so, then yes.

So, I was tagged in this by the wonderful @silent--sonata, our resident book club cryptid, and now I, too, must answer her riddles!
Rules: Answer 17 Questions & tag 17 people you want to get to know better (though I'll probably tag less, let's be honest here).
Nickname: Wy/Wyv/Wyvern online, Cookie sometimes by my gf, or "you evil, evil, very cruel no good human being" when I've written something angsty, also by my darling Nugget.
Zodiac Sign: Libra. The Tadfield Advertiser tells me a friend is important to me, that help may come from an unexpected quarter, and that I should avoid salads because I'm vulnerable to stomach upsets.
Height: 165cm, I think. Which is... hold on, let me Google that... 5'5''...?
Hogwarts house: Ravenclaw. Very Ravenclaw. So Ravenclaw. (Though, then again, Hermione was sorted into Gryffindor, so who knows what would've happened if I was plot-relevant to a Chosen One?)
Last thing I googled: converting cm to whatever heathen measurement is the alternative, see questions before previous one. But before that, it was some reference images for Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fanart.
Song stuck in my head: Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, Prélude. It's lovely.
Following and followers: following 72, followed by 147.
Amount I sleep: it varies. Usually people tell me it's too little. I can function just as well on 4 hours as on 8 though, so that's fine!
Lucky number(s): 7. (I know, basic.) Also pi. And 42!
Dream job: writing/author, it's what I enjoy like nothing else. As for more realistic dreams... when I was a little child, I wanted to become a maths professor, but now I think literature professor is more my jam. Definitely academia though.
Wearing: my pyjamas with the little hugging ghosties on it. (Yes, at 3pm. Shush.) My 4m Doctor Who scarf I knit myself the autumn before last.
Favourite song(s): ...it's very, very difficult to choose. I generally love every opera I sang in with choir, and have an especially soft spot for Mascagni's "Regina Coeli", from Cavalleria Rusticana. I also love musicals, and can sing the entire opening of RENT on my own - including acting! (And special mention for Bubbles's genius book club OST! It's beautiful!)
Random fact: okay, because this came up yesterday... >gets soap box<
DID YOU KNOW, THE HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON MOVIES ARE BASED ON A WILDLY DIFFERENT (and, in my personal opinion, much better) BOOK SERIES? I ADVISE EVERYONE TO READ IT, BOOK!TOOTHLESS IS A TINY LITTLE BRAT AND CAN TALK, BOOK!FISHLEGS IS HICCUP'S BEST (only) FRIEND, THERE'S A BADASS LITTLE BURGLAR GIRL CALLED CAMICAZI WHO HANGS OUT WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALL THE FUN ADVENTURES, IT'S AMAZING!!! THE GENERAL MORAL IS ALSO QUITE DIFFERENT IN COMPARISON TO THE MOVIES, IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THESE BOOKS YOU'RE MISSING OUT!!!
>ehem< sorry for that. I just feel like people should Know about this. These books are a treasure, and however good the movies are on their own, they honestly can't compare. (Sorry, Nugget.)
Favourite Authors: Terry Pratchett. Can't believe I've only re-discovered him recently, after the German edition of Maurice didn't appeal much to 11-year-old me. Cressida Cowell, see previous question. Also Angie Sage's delightful Septimus Heap series, and Jacqueline Rayner's Doctor Who stories. Honourable mention to Erich Kästner's Fabian/Der Gang Vor Die Hunde, which I read back in 11th grade and really want to write academically about one day.
Favourite Animal Noises: anything cats do. Special mention to the little burr-mew one of mine does whenever someone sneezes.
Aesthetic: Hermione. Pretty much. I wear something school-uniform-esque and all, though I also have a hat and a tartan bowtie, so... part Aziraphale, I guess? (My brother will tell you that I'm a gremlin. He's lying. Don't listen to him.)
Well, that's that - let's see who I can think of tagging. (If you don't feel like answering, that's no problem at all! Only if you feel like it! <3)
@sortofsunny, @cafekat91, @thelittleblackfox, @ifeelbetterer, @vodkertonic, @still-not-king, @percyjacksonfan3, @handlebarstiedtothestars, @darkonesdagger7437, @godihatethisfreakingcat, uh... seems like I can't think of anyone else Bubbles hasn't already tagged. Oh well! 10 out of 17 will have to do.

To those who wanted that sneak peak at my progress on my HiredAssassin! Sophie × InsuranceFraudPrince!Fitz, here it is:
The Moonlark crouched behind the edge of the sandstone wall, making sure no one was coming before slipping down the dark corridor.
She referred back to the set of instructions that had been delivered to her via raven the night before—the lines concerning her disguise and entrance earlier that morning crossed off like a checklist—squinting to make out the loopy lettering in the moonlight that filtered in through the barred windows. Another 20 steps, and on her left… There.
As she reached for the handle, she heard footsteps and hastily retreated around the corner before walking around the bend as if she worked here and certainly wasn't infiltrating the palace to assassinate a member of the royal family.
The man—if someone of his age should be called a man—came into view: light brown hair, the color of cinnamon, skin a shade of honeyed bronze, eyes sparklingly teal, broad shoulders inside of a white tunic with a purple and blue embroidered jerkin, his long legs covered in purple pants of silk, and his look completed with a pair of blue studded dress shoes.
The Moonlark swore internally. Of course she ran into Prince Fitzroy Vacker. Her very target.
"My lord," she said in a bashful tone, bowing into a curtsey. "Out to stargaze?"
"Evening, miss," he responded in his royally crisp accent. "I'm simply out to smell the roses."
The Moonlark's brain stalled. How had he just accidentally spoken the code phrase? She stared at him as she replied, "I hope the scent is worth the thorns."
Prince Fitzroy gave her a small smile. "Right this way." He pulled open the door the Moonlark almost entered, letting her in before shutting the door and leading her down the steps of the narrow staircase. At the bottom, he opened another door, this one heavy and oaken, with thick metal hinges and a metal knocker.
He and the Moonlark enter the room, and Fitzroy shuts and locks it behind them. The Moonlark realized it was a wine cellar. The barred window took up the size of the back wall, and the Moonlark could see barrels of alcohol and liquor lined against the sand brick walls.
"Sorry about all of the formalities. I am aware that the pass code was not the greatest, but it was a line from this truly awful book I had been reading and I figured it'd be a funny little thing before I die."
"So, to clarify," the Moonlark said, "You hired me."
"Yes," Prince Fitzroy said.
"To kill you."
"That is correct."
"Okay," she said. "Do you just need someone to talk to?"
"Nope, I'm all good. I don’t really mind, I just need to be dead."
"No offense, but it feels wrong to kill you."
"Because I want you to?"
"Look," she said. "I've been around the marketplace for a while. There's always someone looking to have someone else killed, even royalty. I've seen plenty of hits for your dad, or even a few for your mom out of jealousy, but never have I seen a hit for any of their children. In fact, everyone has always seemed to adore you guys. So I figured when I saw the hit for you—the people's prince and the royals' declared heir—that you were secretly a tyrant. So I came figuring you were going to end up being a dickhead as royals usually are, except… you aren't. You know all of the guards and staffs' names, you ask them how they are and actually listen, you help them out when they need it by having them take breaks and checking if they've eaten or drank, you clean up after yourself so that others don't have to, and you overall treat them like they're human. They all truly love and respect you, even the ones who don't like anyone like grumpy Sir Faxon."
The prince was blushing. "I try my best to make sure they're all safe and happy."
"That's my point. They don't want you dead. No one does. So I'm trying to figure out why you do."
"You know, for an assassin, you seem to care a lot about other people."
"Well, killing someone is undoable. I make sure that my client truly wants the target dead, and not out of a slight or pride. I always give them options for less irreversible revenge. Currently, I want to make sure it isn't out of despondency."
The prince sighed. "I'm not despondent. I will miss my family and my people, but it is for their good." He didn't meet her eyes as he said, "My father is a good king. For the most part, he is fit to rule Eternalia. However, he does have lapses in judgement. Recently, he butted heads with the royal family of Lumenaria. The easiest way to fix the conflict is for my father to apologize and admit he was wrong, but instead he decided my sister should marry one of their brood. Biana has only just turned 19 and I don't want her shoved into a political marriage to fix what she didn't break. When I die, my will gives her all of my money and my life insurance goes to my mother so that Biana can get out and have a normal, happy life."
The Moonlark stared at him until he looked back up to her. "So you mean to tell me you hired an assassin to kill you for insurance fraud in order to protect your sister?"
"Essentially," the prince breathed.
"Well then, why don't we just fake your death?"
Prince Fitzroy blinked at her. "What?"
"Let's fake your death. Honestly I've never killed anyone—"
"I knew it," the prince interjected.
She rolled her eyes. "Well, I'm not an actual assassin. I took the job for the cash because I figured you were a dick. But you have a good heart from what I can tell, and you're trying to sacrifice yourself even though I can practically smell the fear because you're determined to save your sister. I can get behind that. Faking your death means your sister gets away safe and gets your money, and you don't have to die. And bonus, I still get my money at a reduced price, seeing as I don’t have to actually kill you."
"Well, I like not dying," the prince said. "But how does one fake their death?"
The Moonlark gave him a grin. "Now that I do have a lot of experience with. In order for this to work, you have to trust me."
"Okay. But can I bring my horse? I don't want to leave her alone."
"Absolutely." The Moonlark clapped the prince on the shoulder, though she did have to stand on her tiptoes to make the top of her head come to his nose. "Alright, Pretty Boy, if we wanna be out by sunrise, we have to start 20 minutes ago. You have your paper and ink?"
Prince Fitzroy nodded, and the Moonlark said, "Good. I need you to write your letters now. One of them should be a letter addressed to your family saying that you went for an evening stroll and not to worry if they wake up and you aren't at breakfast. To do this right, we're going to make it look like you were eaten by a bear. If that's all you want to say, then that's good enough, but if you want to tell your sister and mother so they aren't too upset, you can write them each notes to explain it, but do your best to use caution and use codes so that someone on the outside won't realize that you're lying to commit insurance fraud, or find out youre alive and try to drag you back."
"Does it have to be that?" Fitz asked.
"Sorry, it's the best I can come up with that doesn't require a witness or removing part of your body for proof. Unless you want to write a note saying that it's all too much and you're committing suicide by jumping off the cliff."
"I'll get eaten by the bear," Prince Fitzroy said with a sigh.
"Alright. In that case, I'll be back in a moment."
The Moonlark navigated her way back to the hall and then to the laundry room. She grabbed two sets of clothing in black, including hoods. She also grabbed a laundered saddle bag and sprinted through the Kitchens, throwing in rations of food and a couple water canteens.
"Put these on," she said, throwing him one of the black outfits once she made it back to the wine cellar. The prince opened his mouth, and the Moonlark said, "I'm not going to watch, but I need the clothes you're wearing right now."
She stared at her feet, and after a few minutes, his old clothes were at her feet. "I am terribly sorry about this, and I really hope these weren't your favorite clothes," the Moonlark said.
"What are you—?" Prince Fitzroy started, but the Moonlark nonchalantly took the knife she'd grabbed and slashed through the clothes. For added effect, she cut a line on her arm and waved her bleeding arm around to stain the cloth.
"You just cut yourself open on our dinner knives," Fitzroy said, rushing over. "Are you alright?"
She rolled her eyes. "I'm fine, Your Majesty. I stopped by the Infirmary on the way here and grabbed some medical supplies." Indeed she had, and she pulled out antiseptic fluid and a gauze roll. she quickly stitched it up, taping it on the cut, and said "All better."
"Please don't call me 'Your Majesty' or 'Prince Fitzroy.' It's always made me uncomfortable, and within a few hours I won't be a prince anymore."
"Are you going to change your name then?" the Moonlark asks.
He shrugged.
"You don't have to decide now if you want to," she said gently. "You have a whole new life to live. But in the meantime, we have to go set those letters where they need to be, you need to pack anything you can't live without or you want if you think it won't be noticeable, and then we have to place your clothes somewhere they'll be found but also not somewhere super unusual, and then we grab your horse and hit the road."
Together, they ran back through the darkened palace. They entered his bedchambers, and the Moonlark said, "Alright, I see you have a bag—great—so take your time packing. I know its a lot and that it probably hasn't hit you yet so just… hang in there. Meanwhile, I'm going to get dressed into my own black monstrosity, and I'll be right back."
Fitzroy nodded, and the Moonlark went into his bathroom. When she came back to the main room, Fitzroy was staring at a drawing of himself with his parents, his brother, and his sister. He folded and tucked it into his breast pocket, the tears on his cheeks reflecting the moonlight. He heard her step closer and jumped, quickly wiping at his face.
"All set?" the Moonlark asked him cautiously. He nodded, and she impulsively grabbed his hand and gave it a quick squeeze before letting it drop.
"Letter time," Fitzroy said, his voice slightly hoarse.
They walked across the hall to another bedchamber, and when they opened the door, a young woman was sitting on the edge of the bed. Her hair was a darker brown, and her skin was lighter by a few shades, but she had the same teal eyes as her brother. "I could hear you two next door," Princess Biana said.
"Hey," her brother said, his voice croaky.
"So, what's happening?" The princess asked, looking at the Moonlark. "And who are you?"
The Moonlark bowed. "Princess. Your brother here hired me as an assassin to execute him."
Princess Biana glared at her brother. "You did what?"
Fitzroy looked sheepish. "She's not killing me anymore, she talked me out of it."
The Moonlark explained how she'd arrived that morning and followed the instructions he'd sent to her before meeting him tonight to discuss plans. Biana listened intently as she relayed their earlier conversation and their plans to fake Fitzroy's death.
"So," Princess Biana said, "You tried to look out for me once again by almost getting yourself killed? Most assassins wouldn't have bat an eyelash. You're very lucky you picked a woman, and a smart one at that."
"I've already had this discussion," Fitzroy sighed. "But when you get out of this place, send Alvar's raven. He'll find me, and then I'll find you."
"Of course,' the princess said. "Are you guys prepared to leave? Dawn is coming quickly, the sun will be up within the hour."
"We're all set," Fitzroy said. He hugged his sister. "Be safe, I love you."
"Love you too," she said. "I'll be fine, you two take care of each other. Is there anything else I can do to help?"
"Don't find the clothes," the Moonlark said. "If you do, it'll look suspicious and put some light on you, especially since the will is in your favor. But when you find out he's 'dead,' be genuine and don't overdo it."
The princess nodded solemnly. She gave Fitzroy one last hug and pulled the Moonlark in, whispering "Take care of him," giving her a kiss on the cheek before taking her letter from the prince and shooing them out.
"Where should we put the other letter?" the Moonlark asked.
"My dad's placement at the table," Fitzroy said immediately.
They went back to the dining room, and the prince took a deep breath before putting it down.
"What's next?"
"I think we head toward the stables. We don't have much time."
Fitzroy nodded. "Right this way," he said.
They walked out a secret entrance on the side of the palace and ended up by the forest. Sophie took out his bloody, ripped clothing and tossed them on the ground five feet off the path. She reopened her bandage and squeezed out as much blood as she could, dripping it around the area.
Fitz looked at the pile of clothing, and the Moonlark saw something inside of him break. She caught his arm and eased him sitting onto the path a few feet further away as he breathed sharp breaths.
The Moonlark wrapped her arm around the prince as he took gasping, panicky breaths. Eventually they slowed and evened out, and the Moonlark said, "Do you feel… better now?"
The prince nodded. "Yeah. I just… yeah, sorry."
"Don't be. I know the feeling. I get if you have some second thoughts, but—."
"Not at all," the prince said. "It's just…"
"Surreal," the Moonlark supplied. "A lot to take in."
"Yeah." The prince stood and pulled her up. "I'm ready."
"Alright. To the stables."
The word "stables" seemed an understatement. It was a large building of wood with a tiled floor and roof. The sides had plenty of spaces for the horses to put their heads out during the day, though the porticos were covered in a satiny curtain. There was an abundance of hay, straw, and grass for the horses as well as treats of crab apples. The water troughs were large enough that the Moonlark could bathe in them no problem. There were all sorts of horse equipment as well as some gardening and hunting tools.
"Mind if I take a bow and a quiver for the road?"
She gave him a wide grin. "Neat."
"Sure," Fitzroy said. "Grab a shield while you're at it as a souvenir."
She plucked one off the wall and studied it. "Good timing, too. I used my old one for target practice and hit my last shot too hard. Broke the shield and snapped the bowstring in one go." She put the shield on her arm and slung the bow and quiver around her. "Which horse is yours?"
"Verdi," the prince said.
The Moonlark and the prince stopped outside the horse's enclosure, and she let out a whistle. "She's a beaut," the Moonlark breathed, studying the majestic creature. She was white with cream patches all over her powerful body, her eyes the color of honey.
"I've had her since I started learning to ride when I was fourteen." the prince said. He opened the latch to her gate, and she sauntered out, stopping in front of them. "Where exactly are we going?" he asked.
"I'm assuming you don't have family outside the kingdom, and you need to lay low for a bit, so I'll take you to where I call home, and when you get into the routine of normal life and get on your feet, you can go wherever you want. Sound like a plan?"
"Yep," the prince said.
"Alright, give me one moment," the Moonlark said. She undid her hair from the bun she had it in, pulling it back in a high pony instead. "That's better. I was getting a headache from that bun. You ready, Fitz?"
The prince nodded at her. "After you."
The Moonlark clambered up, quickly followed by Fitzroy.
He leaned forward. "Actually, I like that. Do you mind… calling me Fitz from now on?"
"No problem," she said to him.
"And… if it's not prying?" he asked, leaving the question open.
"What's my name?" The Moonlark supplied. "I'm taking you to my house, with my parents and my siblings, so you may as well know. But trust me, if you ever slip to someone and tell them who I am, I will hunt you down and murder you." She took a breath, turned around on Verdi, and stuck out her hand. "Nice to meet you Fitz, I'm Sophie."
"Nice to meet you too, Sophie," Fitz said with a grin, shaking her hand.

chinese mythology AU: the moon rabbit
so @insearchof-solace gave me this prompt a while back and i was immediately inspired and.... wrote nothing BUT i kept wanting to write it (that’s fair enough, no????) && now that i’m finally up to writing it, my word doc is acting up on me and i was ready to throw in the towel but i was like
well. i write a whole bunch and don’t edit my work anyway, so how about i try something different and write it right now, spontaneously, on this post here? are you nervous? i’m rebellious and low on energy and don’t have enough mind to be nervous  so yea, i’m gonna give it a go. so there’s no like introductory post on how long it’s gonna be or what is it about or how vastly different it is from the actual mythology (very different, probably) like always, this is an AU of my wip like all things out of season, i.e. using its characters and whatnot. so yea. a little background: the moon rabbit is, well, a rabbit. who lives on the moon. it’s usually like seen pounding something with a mortar and pestle that the chinese (the moon rabbit exists in a lot of other asian mythology but i’m using the chinese one for this because, well. it’s a chinese au piece) assumes is the elixir of life, and is usually portrayed as being a companion of chang’e, the moon goddess. but who knows? will there be a companion here?? i don’t know.  what i do know is that i’ll be personifying the moon rabbit, so yea. i won’t be describing an actual rabbit with rabbit limbs and features per se here, but something rather human. here it goes: edit: after writing, it seems a lil philosophical and kinda gloomy. not my usual light-hearted thing, so be warned!
Tumblr media
The moon is round tonight. Well, that’s no different from usual -- it is round every night, there’s no way it can suddenly change its shape beneath his feet, but well. He supposes, for the mortals down there, the moon is round tonight. Below him, flickering lights dance like waves cascading over one another; they sputter and glow within their paper walls, orange and red and yellow and even purple. Laughter weaves its way between hooked arms and raucous chatter, explodes as someone butchers a poetry recital and recedes when a performance begins. He sits there, on the edge. The stone is cool in his grip, familiar and worn; it sets a rhythm alongside the pounding beats and traditional tunes of the music below. Each time, a push and a twist, a push and a twist.  By the time applause breaks out, the herbs have already been ground to dust. He’s used to the smell; they prick at his nostrils and lingers in the air, but his nose always aches and the air around him is always heavy anyway. He’s used to it. Sometimes he wonders. Of course he does, he’s had more than enough time, so much that he doesn’t care to notice about the flow of the ages, passing so quickly beneath his feet that if he merely blinks, he thinks he might miss civilisation’s end.  Not that it matters to him, of course. Eras come and go, mortals live and perish. And all that eventually remains are the ghosts of memories that have come to pass.  Echoes, rather -- not ghosts. Ghosts are too corporeal, nearly substantial in their remembrance. And memories are fickle beings. They shift and change with age and perspective, warp with desires and denials; the more someone strives to recollect, the more they rebuild and break down the past, the less firm the foundation. The less solid the form. What’s left is merely an echo, a lingering afterthought. Something not as significant, yet remains hovering in the atmosphere like a miasma suspended over a grave -- doomed to haunt for all of eternity. Mortals are all chased by their echoes. And he wonders, of course, what his might be. If he were to be mortal. But of course, he isn’t. And that is a useless thought to contemplate on, for something that he cannot and will not be. He keeps pounding away. His moon is always round, after all. - The smoke is thick, almost viscous somehow. It snakes up into the air, wiggling and struggling, fighting to get out. It happens, occasionally. Though perhaps that might not be the best descriptor. Occasionally to him takes place over a rather large span of time, anyway. It doesn’t matter. The mortals move away, backs resolutely turned. Some are crying. Some press their palms tight and hold them close to their hearts, letting hushed words slip into open air. Others, younger ones, so tiny he can barely see them from where he sits, look confused.  It’s bright again, but not like before. The flames are ravenous and fierce, hungry and unrelenting; they chase after the paper offerings and tear apart the paper house, eating and swallowing till there’s nothing left. The smoke dies down; it’s a little easier to breathe. He thinks.  He doesn’t quite know. A physical release might not be quite the same as an emotional one.  What he does understand, though, is that everything comes back to dust. You bring nothing with you when you’re brought to life, and you carry nothing away in your death. It is a cycle. It will eventually happen again, he doesn’t know why they grieve. He is no expert, of course. He continues to pound away at the mixture for an immortality elixir. - She’s here today. The moon is a large place, and they don’t often cross paths. He feels like it’s been eons since he’s last spoken. It might have been. She doesn’t speak. She sits at the edge and peers down. Though there can be no sign of age on the smooth lines of her face, she somehow looks weathered. Old and beaten. Tired, from an eternity of existence.
He clears his throat; it is resounding in the silence. “Hi.” “Hi,” she replies.  She used to be mortal. She used to love and be loved. But it’s been ages.  There’s no one there for her now. He sits beside her and doesn’t speak, just pushes the bottle towards her and looks at his hands.  The skin is peeling and his palms are bruised. He is immortal, yet still they are bruised. It is an odd spectacle. He curls his fingers around them and squeezes. He stares at her and he wonders. If she’s a beautiful immortal worshiped by all and he’s her humble companion praised in textbooks.  Or maybe she’s an idol for virtue and he’s one for diligence and utility.  In reality though, he thinks it might be something else instead. That she’s a mortal stuck in a cage and that he’s her captor. Or that they are both trapped in a never-ending circle that chases after itself, sitting on the edge and trying to break the trajectory. Maybe it’s better not to think at all. After all, the moon will always be round. She will always be told in stories, celebrated in festivals. And he will always be here, pounding away for all of eternity.  Memories will live on forever, anyway -- even if they are merely echoes. Especially if they are merely echoes.  They are meant to live forever.
---------------------- okay! i don’t know why this ended up so depressing. like i said, i really didn’t plan anything. and i don’t know what this means. maybe it’s a deliberation on immortality VS mortality and how hou yi has maybe got the right idea the whole time? (okay, explanations about certain myths below.) or maybe something about myths being glorified and immortalised and wondering how that might go about in actual reality. or maybe that people should be given decisions about their own lives and not forced into a routine by fate i don’t know okay don’t question me i don’t think when i’m writing it also kinda, sort of, reflects a little about the beginning of my wip?  alright so a few things:
the moon rabbit is.... dun dun dun!! i’m sure some of y’all have guessed! it’s shou!! (that’s why it kinda reflects the beginning of my wip a little bit)
and the female is obviously... dun dun dun! chang’e!!! and she is!!!! well, this might be a little harder to guess but it also does reflect a little bit of her past / backstory in the companion novel. anyway!! it is... zhen!!
basic background on the mythology of chang’e: she is married to a man named hou yi, and back then there were like, 10 suns on earth and everyone was suffering because it was hella hot and hou yi, being a great man and a saviour of the broken (oops, mcr reference), he shot down 9 out of 10 of the suns. he was rewarded with an elixir of immortality, but he didn’t want to take it because he wanted to be with his wife. anyway something happened, bla bla bla, in order to protect the elixir from some bad guys, chang’e downed it herself and became immortal, and she decided to live in a place where she’d be closest to her husband -- which was incidentally the moon. and mid-autumn celebration is kinda celebrated for her too. okay, it also celebrates a bunch of other stuff, but for chang’e as well!
the first part he’s watching the mid-autumn festival celebrations, traditionally celebrated with people holding a bunch of lanterns on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, which is when there is a full moon (just fyi, the 15th day of all the lunar months tend to have a full moon)
the second part he’s watching a funeral procession (kinda more like a buddhist one, where you burn joss paper and paper ingots and paper houses etc.) not really in detail but yea
the phrase that i used ‘In life you carry nothing, and in death you bring nothing’ comes from this actual chinese thing that you say ‘生不带来 死不带去’ which means the same thing
ALRIGHT. uhh. hope y’all enjoyed?? tagging my tag list @cabaretofwords @inked-waves @latechickadee @kidsarentallwrite @insearchof-solace @kaigods @inkpot-dreamer @pen-for-sword @thedreamsofthesky @cheap-pins
as usual y’all are free to drop me prompts any time alright!

Info about me and my ME work over the years: -- Frustratingly, my profile for the Wego Health awards is still not showing up on the page. I have been told the problem will be fixed in July 8. Anyway, here is the text of my profile.
If you want to endorse me in any or all of the 4 categories, I have been nominated for, here is the link: https://awards.wegohealth.com/nominees/230 -- I have had Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.)* since February 1989, when I was just 16. I wasn't diagnosed till autumn 1994 by which time I was severely affected. Although I am not as ill as I was for the first few months, when I was basically bedbound, only able to read & understand cartoons, I remain severely affected 24 years on, only leaving the home for important appointments or to go to our holiday home for the summer. I blame the late diagnosis, & following advice to exercise, for the severity of my illness as in the early years I was only mildly affected (able to study full-time, once I cut out most extracurricular activities).
After being diagnosed for over a year, I realised there was a good chance I was going to be stuck being quite ill & disabled for a long period, possibly indefinitely, a prospect that wasn't appealing. Moreover, I realised that there wasn't a huge effort to research the illness well; it wasn't on the radar the way many other conditions were.
I have been busy for the last 23 years working away as a (voluntary) ME activist. Much of what I concentrated on in the early years was raising awareness & understanding in Ireland with the Irish ME/CFS Association. I have done around 50 media interviews & have been featured in most of the national newspapers in Ireland. I have written dozens of press releases & have helped arrange for around 130 Irish families affected with ME to tell their story over the years in over 400 interviews. A lot more people are diagnosed here now & attitudes have improved.
When I became involved, there were only 45 people on the Irish ME/CFS Association mailing list. This made it difficult to respond to some media requests for interviewees. So one of the things I concentrated on was building up the membership. It reached over 450 one stage, though has gradually dropped back now, possibly due to the Internet.
I set up a research fund within the Association in 1996 & gradually with a lot of ground-level fundraising & small donations (I think the largest have been a few donations of €1000 each), we have now raised over €300,000 for much needed research.
We have done mail-outs of information bundles to various information sources incl. to all Irish GPs twice & we are more than 50% through the third one. I was involved in organising our first medical education event for GPs this year.
When I became involved the Association’s newsletter was one or two pages long. As the editor over 22 years, I’ve gradually built it up to a more substantial newsletter which has reached on occasion 80 pages long. I also edit an e-mail bulletin, usually with 10 items that goes out to members around once a week.
I have helped arrange dozens of Irish ME/CFS Association meetings with Irish & international medical & scientific speakers along with dozens of other meetings such as screenings of documentaries on the illness.
I’ve coordinated the Association’s helpline volunteer team for 20 years, dealing with many of the more challenging calls myself. I’ve also dealt with a lot of other enquiries to the Association.
In the mid-2000s, my concentration levels improved & allowed me to read a lot of research papers in the field. I realised a lot of rubbish was going unchallenged & the pool of people who were trying to respond ever was small, so have spent quite a bit of time responding to papers: I've authored or coauthored 7 papers & 17 letters published in various peer-reviewed journals along with over 100 e-letters. Probably my proudest achievement was the publication of my paper, "Reporting of Harms Associated with Graded Exercise Therapy (GET) & Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome". I had previously been quite academically able but things are more difficult now with M.E. so it took a lot of work & sacrifice over more around 15 months. I was also involved with the critique of the £5 million PACE Trial, which was supposed to be the “definitive” of GET & CBT for CFS. In various publications, I or teams I was involved with highlighted flaws in what had been published and eventually reanalysed the data to show that the results were very unimpressive, particularly when objective comes were looked at.
I still live at home with my parents who take care of most of the practical stuff, which frees me up to use the energy I have on ME matters. I follow ME news closely & try to help the ME cause, in Ireland and internationally, as best I can. Twitter, Facebook & other platforms allow me to share what I find to a wider audience. I believe there is power in numbers and together we can make a difference; conversely, I feel that if I & others don't try, we could be ignored and fobbed off indefinitely with rehabilitative therapies like GET & CBT based on scheduling increased activity.
*Perhaps better known in some countries as "Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" (CFS), although some CFS definitions are overly broad -- Hopefully people won't be too unkind if they have some problems with what it includes. I could only fit in info on some of the work I've been involved with in the Irish ME/CFS Association.

All weird asks!! They're so good!
Sorry this is a bit late, babe! I wanted to wait til I had the opportunity to answer all these uninterrupted!
1. coffee mugs, teacups, wine glasses, water bottles, or soda cans?
Coffee mugs! tbh I drink tea out of coffee mugs because who actually uses teacups? I mean my grandma has tons and I would use them, but the handles are so tiny and I am v clumsy so it scares me.
2. chocolate bars or lollipops?
Chocolate bars!!! I’m too impatient for lollipops and plus they always get coated in saliva which just...drips down my chin since my mouth is already full.
3. bubblegum or cotton candy?
Bubblegum! I love cotton candy but I can only handle a bit at a time tbh. Also I haven’t had bubblegum in almost two years bc of braces and I miss it so much I can’t wait to have it again.
4. how did your elementary school teachers describe you?
Okay, so even though I’ve always been homeschooled, when I was in elementary school we did this program with a ton of other homeschoolers where you could take actual classes and stuff. My teachers always said I was quiet and focused and studious, and you could always count on me to be lecturing everyone else on the instructions if they hadn’t been paying attention. (does any of that surprise anyone?)
5. do you prefer to drink soda from soda cans, soda bottles, plastic cups or glass cups? GLASS SODA BOTTLES. nothing beats soda that’s been bottled in glass rather than plastic. You ever had orange cream soda from a glass bottle????? SLAPS ASS MY DUDE.
6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear?
Pastel/boho/preppy/goth, my dude. I have so many sides to my fashion and aesthetic.
7. earbuds or headphones?
EARBUDS BC HEADPHONES NEVER FIT OVER MY EARS RIGHT. BUT EARBUDS WITH SOFT TIPS BECAUSE MY EARS ARE TOO SMALL FOR THE PLASTIC ONES.

Tv shows tbh because even though I can binge 4 eps of 45 minutes each per night, they’ll hold my attention a lot more than a movie. It’s weird.
9. favorite smell in the summer?
Thunderstorms/petrichor, also natural bogs. PEAT BOG SMELL FUCKING SLAPS.
10. game you were best at in p.e.?
None. I liked trampoline time back when we took gymnastics, if that counts. I also liked jump roping and Irish step dancing.

Nothing lmao. I sleep til like noon and then I microwave something for lunch.

39. lemon cake or lemon meringue pie?
Lemon meringue pie!!! my stepdad made a really good one the other week.
40. weirdest thing to ever happen at your school?

41. last person you texted?
My gf :)

Jacket pockets because things are not only hard to fit in girls’ pants pockets, but if you put a chapstick/lipstick in there it starts to melt :(

44. favorite scent for soap?
Irish Spring soap or the blue Dial bars smells better and cleaner than anything to me.
45. which genre: sci-fi, fantasy or superhero?
Fantasy. It can take me a bit to get into it, but once I do, I love it. I only do sci-fi if it has rebellion and isn’t heavy on the sci. And superhero movies are great but a lot of the tropes are meh. Fantasy has a lot more versatility if you ask me.

A really poorly edited political ad on tv a couple years ago. There was weird jazz playing, flames in the background of an image of the Capitol Building, and then the top of the dome opened and this guy’s face was inside. It is the single funniest ad I have ever seen and I laughed for 10 minutes so hard I was like an inch away from passing out.

21 Questions Meme!
I was tagged by the lovely @invidiamalice to do this meme! Thanks so much! Sorry I waited to reblog but I wanted to queue it up for posting on my birthday.
Rules: answer 21 questions and then tag 21 people you’d like to get to know better
1) Nickname: Waltzy, Pennywaltzy, California Brown Bear
2) Zodiac: Aquarius (today is my b-day!)
3) Height: 5′7″ ish. I used to be 5′10″ until I was pregnant and then my spine compressed, causing all the injuries I have there now.
4) Last movie I watched: I saw the tail end of Sky High last week? Otherwise, the last full movie I saw on TV was Moana, and the last one I saw in theatres was The Grinch.
5) Last thing I googled: As of the day I answered it, it was “california state id requirements”
6) Favourite musicians: Linkin Park, Lorde, 2NE1, KoRn, Emilie Autumn, The Prodigy, Jun Areia, Panic! At The Disco, Donald Glaude, The Chainsmokers, f(x), Twenty One Pilots, Depeche Mode, Skrillex, Queen, Fall Out Boy, Marina and the Diamonds, Everclear, The Smashing Pumpkins, Splashdown, Marilyn Manson, Natalia Kills
7) Song stuck in my head: Currently there are two: “Tortuga (Radio Edit)” by Double-V & Formal One (my son sent it to me and then I lost it for a while and I sobbed because he kept sending me the wrong versions and then I found it and sobbed happy tears) and “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee, which hilariously came on RIGHT AFTER TORTUGA as I was listening to my music player.
8) Other blogs? @pennywaltzy (my fic blog), @sherlollysecretsanta , @mollyappreciationweek , @holmesfortheholidays  , @sherlockfanworkawards, @sherlockwomenappreciation and then two more I’m still trying to figure out what the heck to use them for ( @makeyourmoment and @blahblahblah-etc). I also have accounts on Dreamwidth, Insanejournal, Livejournal and Pillowfort.
9) Do I get asks: More on my fic journal than this blog, but those are usually requests for fics or headcanons.
10) Blogs following: I follow 1,988 blogs (1.365 follow me)
11) Amount of sleep: Depends on whether I’m in a bed or not. I can sleep 12 - 18 hours if I’m in a bed, especially if I’ve been sick or in the car for a while; otherwise, around 5 - 7.
12) Lucky Number: 23
13) What I’m wearing: On the day I answered this, black flowy wide-legged pajama pants (which I generally wear for everyday wear), and a burgundy tank top underneat my Sherlock acrosstic tank top.
14) Dream Job: Writing something. I’m on disability right now so I’m supported in a minimal fashion, but getting to supplement my income by writing would be awesome.
15) Dream Trip: A couple months in England, going to all the movie and TV locations I love. The reason I say months is I run out of energy really quickly so what an able-bodied person could fit in two weeks would take me about two months, especially if I go when weather is really bad.
16) Favourite Food: Macaroni and cheese (preferably Stouffers or from the Walmart deli), mashed potatoes (almost any way you can think of) and cashew chicken.
17) Play any instruments: I can sort of play piano? But not well.
18) Languages: English
19) Favourite Songs: “Say Amen (Sweater Beats Remix)” by Panic! At The Disco, “Monster (EXTENSION REMIX)” by Nicki Minaj, “REVOLUTION + MTBD + DIRTY VIBE (Live)” by CL x Diplo, “Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)” by Fall Out Boy feat. Missy Elliot, “Heart Shaped Box” by Ramin Djawadi, “Killer Queen” by Queen, “The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning” by The Smashing Pumpkins, “Für Elise (Klutch Dubstep Trap Remix),” “If The Town Blows Away” from Daria! The Musical and the entirety of the Spiderman: Into The Spiderverse OST, the OBC recording of “The Addams Family” and Linkin Park’s “One More Light” (now that I can finally listen to the latter without crying)
20) Random Fact: Apparently I’m double jointed?
21) Describe yourself as aesthetic things: A grizzled veteran of too many fandom wars (camping out on my little territory, smoking a pipe and trying to keep the peace) who’s chained to a typewriter with stereo headphones on and a pair of broken glasses, sweating blood, tears and ink.
