Read the Warnings Trump's Own Officials Have Given About Electing Him To A Second Term
No one sees the danger Trump poses more vividly than aides and advisers who worked with him.
— June 19, 2024 | John Harwood
Like many others, I recognized Donald Trump as a preposterous figure from the moment in 2015 he entered the race for president.
The run-up to the Republican debate I moderated that October only affirmed that assessment. Ahead of the debate, he called my cell phone repeatedly to boast about his poll standing — strange behavior I’d never seen in three decades of covering presidential campaigns. When the debate began, I suggested he was running a “comic-book” campaign in the belief that gentle mockery might help burst his bubble and allow Republicans to consider their genuine contenders for the White House.
That belief proved mistaken, to say the least. Trump’s bubble didn’t burst. As his nomination rivals ruefully discovered, he was both preposterous and serious at the same time. The likes of Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, who later described him accurately as a “pathological liar” and “con artist,” respectively, got steamrolled.
What I failed to recognize, even after Trump won the nomination, was the extent of the danger he posed to the country. That required watching him wield power as president – from the Muslim ban he pursued by executive order during his first week to the deadly insurrection he incited during his last month before reluctantly leaving the White House in defeat.
No one saw the danger more vividly than aides and advisers who worked with Trump on the most sensitive issues a president faces. Last year, NBC News reached out to 44 of the dozens of people who were part of Trump’s Cabinet at some point during his first term. Only four at the time had said they would vote for him again.
So, as the first debate of the 2024 Trump-Biden general election approaches, it’s worth remembering the damning assessments many of them and others have offered: ...

Things I noticed in Dreamland 2
Tumblr media
In this scene, Byers is wearing not one, but TWO napkins tucked into his button-up shirt. He really means business when it comes to keeping his suit and tie clean. He also puts Tabasco on his eggs, which I wouldn’t have expected, but he does know that “por favor” means thank you in Spanish so it’s a mild combination of latin spice and Byers-like politeness. He also has his coffee in a clear glass cup which I really can’t explain.
Next:
Tumblr media
Byers is wearing a wedding ring in this scene! He does NOT wear the ring in the Lone Gunmen series and this episode takes place before Three of a Kind where he received an identical looking ring from Suzanne.
Tumblr media
So I dig a little digging and found this on the ‘Three of a Kind’ Wikipedia page:
Bruce Harwood, the actor who portrayed Byers, originally wore a wedding ring when he first portrayed the character, noting, "I'd worn my wedding ring [during the first part of the series] so I imagined a married life for Byers". During the filming of "Unusual Suspects"—an episode that would largely feature Byers feeling a romantic connection to Susanne—Harwood removed his wedding ring, deducing that in 1989, when the episode took place, Byers had not been married yet. However, "Three of a Kind"—which takes place in 1999—features Byers once again romantically drawn to Susanne. Harwood explained, "And then [the producers] brought the character Suzanne Modeski back in season six, and that was supposed to be in the present. So I had to redo my back story; I said Byers had been divorced".
A divorce was definitely never mentioned in either show, and that still doesn’t explain why he’s wearing a wedding ring in Dreamland 2 (Ep 6x5) and then isn’t wearing one at the beginning of Three of a Kind (Ep 6x20), but then receives the ring at the end of the episode. But from what I gather, that’s Bruce Harwood’s actual wedding ring which is nice and kind of makes up for the continuity confusion.
NEXT!
Tumblr media
Ok guys this one took a long time. After many minutes of intense squinting, I figured out what Frohike’s apron said. Here it is:
Tumblr media
Yay I found the apron! Now what the heck does it mean?? Well I did some research and it’s a reference to “Hail, Hail, The Gang’s All Here”, which is a song published in 1917, sometimes sang to cause a ruckus during US state council and legislature meetings. I have no idea why it was put on an apron featuring a glamorous woman and her rapey looking date being served by a suspicious looking chef, but if you want to hear the song, here’s the link. These aprons are vintage and not available for sale, and the one Frohike is wearing definitely looks ruined but maybe it washed out and some crew or cast member somewhere still has it.
The song has different versions of lyrics but I like this one, it’s fitting for the Lone Gunmen:
-A gang of good fellows are we, With never a worry you see,
-We laugh and joke, we sing and smoke, And live life merrily;
-No matter the weather, When we get together, We have a jubilee.
-We love one another we do, With brotherly love it's true,
-It's one for all, the big and small, It's always me for you;
-No matter the weather, When we get together, We drink a toast for two.
Intentional? Probably not. But I like to connect dots that aren’t there.
Thanks for joining my Ted Talk. Please comment if you have any input on my little analysis!

Ford is the undisputed king of trucks. Here's how it got there “Obviously, they’re not the only company looking into this, but they are probably the most important,” Kelley Blue Book editor Allyson Harwood said. Ford introduced the first factory-built pickup with a steel cargo bed, a version of the Model T Runabout, in 1925. There are older Ford trucks, including the heavy-duty Ford Model TT introduced in 1917, but they were mostly sold without cargo beds. Other companies added those. Henry Ford had resisted building complete trucks with factory-installed beds for fear of angering the many firms that relied on making these customizations, according to the book “Classic Pickup Trucks” by Mike Mueller. Trucks became so important to Ford that, following World War II, as the company transitioned from building bombers and Jeeps to making passenger vehicles again, its first new product was the 1948 Ford F-1 pickup, the start of today’s F-series line. “If you read the brochure for that vehicle, it reads just like it reads today,” said Ted Ryan, Ford’s archive manager, “The bed, the towing capacity, the cab comfort, all those were stressed in the 1948 brochure with the F-1.” The F-series was launched just as major changes were happening in America. Government-backed mortgage programs, benefits for veterans, higher paying jobs and new construction techniques created vast new housing developments outside of big cities. These areas weren’t rural exactly, but they weren’t urban, either. They were suburban. Suburbs weren’t new, of course. Areas of separated — but not too separated — homes surrounded by lawns, bushes and fences, had long existed. But this confluence of changes and incentives accelerated their growth. In 1940, 13.4% of Americans lived in suburbs, according to data from the Census Bureau. By 1970, 37% did. By 2010, the trend had continued to the point that half of Americans lived in the suburbs. This created new markets for pickups in a number of ways, some experts said, as well as changes in the trucks themselves. In rural America, pickups had been a transportation staple as they are still today. In the suburbs, though, homeowners with lawns to care for and houses to fix found they needed pickup trucks, too, said B. Mitchell Carlson, an expert on classic pickups. “Now I got to go to the hardware store and I need to get grass seed and I need to get fertilizer,” he said. With a growing number of two-car households and two-car garages, pickups could work as a second errand-runner next to the family sedan or wagon, said Carlson. Around this time, pickups also started getting a bit nicer, too. More ‘creature comforts’ “They were starting now to actually have, like, dual sun visors and everything like that,” he said. “They were starting to get more creature comforts.” Trucks started to look more refined. The Chevrolet Cameo Carrier, which came out in 1955, “easily deserves credit for introducing this country’s first truly classy pickup,” according to Mueller’s book. Sleek and car-like, the smooth-sided Chevrolet lacked the bulging rear fenders that had long been standard on pickups. Andy Weise, who teaches American urban history at San Diego State University, is skeptical of the notion that pickups would have made big inroads into middle class suburban garages. No matter how well-equipped or nicely designed, trucks would simply have been too déclassé for most upwardly mobile Americans in the 1950s to want to park at home, he said. But, he said, the rise of the suburbs created a new class of entrepreneurs who could earn a living fixing the homes and sprucing up the yards of their wealthier neighbors. “My sense of the pickup truck in the suburbs is very much connected to class,” Wiese said, “and I think the people who would have had trucks in the suburbs would have been working class people who did so much of a work on the bigger properties, especially.” Cotten Seiler, who teaches American Studies at Dickinson College and who wrote the book “Republic of Drivers: A Cultural History of Automobility in America,” pointed out that suburbanization didn’t just pull people from the cities. Urbanization and high-paying union jobs also pulled people from rural areas into suburbs and they brought their trucks with them. “In terms of social mobility, those people didn’t trade in their pickup trucks for sedans, they traded in their pickup trucks for nicer pickup trucks,” he said. And as their descendants, who continued driving trucks, moved upward economically, trucks became still nicer and more luxurious, Seiler said. Around the same time, pickup trucks got special protections that helped seal their identification as purely American products, Seiler said. The all-American truck He was talking about the “chicken tax,” which was instituted in 1964 in retaliation for French and West German tariffs on American poultry. The Johnson administration placed a 25% tariff on imported trucks that remains in place to this day. With a protected market, Ford, General Motors and Chrysler — today part of Stellantis — made their trucks cultural statements in addition to just transportation. “There was a Chevy ad like ‘This is our country, this is our truck’ and, in some ways that sort of crystallizes that sense of the identification of the nation with this protected… product,” said Seiler. Today, Toyota and Nissan offer full-size pickups, as well as smaller mid-size trucks. Honda sells the Ridgeline, and Hyundai recently unveiled the Santa Cruz, both smaller, car-like trucks, which are being built in the United States, thus avoiding the tax. Still, the traditional American full-size truck manufacturers dominate the market like half-ton gorillas. Even Ford and GM now offer smaller “mid-sized” trucks, like the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger, that are designed to appeal to those who use trucks more for play than work. They also appeal more to people in dense, urban areas where large trucks can be a challenge to drive and park. Ford executives have been open about plans for an even smaller truck than the Ranger for the American market. Ford, in particular, deserves credit for making bold technological leaps rather than resting easy in its position as Lord of Trucks, said Kelley Blue Book’s Harwood. In 2011, Ford introduced a turbocharged V6 engine option in a truck market dominated by big V8s. In 2015, a redesigned F-150 arrived with an all-aluminum body, something once unthinkable in a product when relatively heavy steel had long been associated with durability. And just last year, Ford began selling the first fully hybrid pickup. So when Ford recently revealed the F-150 Lightning, the first fully electric full-sized pickup truck, it showed the genius of Ford’s penchant for innovation, Harwood said. Ford did this by focusing on the actual needs of truck buyers, like a 10,000-pound towing capacity and a bed designed to work with accessories purchased for other F-150 trucks, rather than flashy stuff like the Lightning’s zero-to-60 acceleration. “What Ford is really doing is they’re taking people along on their innovation journey,” she said. “They’re saying, ‘We’re going to push this. We’re going to go a little bit further with it,’ but what they’re doing that’s great is they’re creating solutions that people want.” Source link Orbem News #Ford #Fordistheundisputedkingoftrucks.Here'showitgotthere-CNN #Heres #King #success #trucks #undisputed

Hey, I think you've mentioned this in a previous post but could you please recommend any discovery related texts (preferably film/short film/short story)? Both my relateds were shot down by my teacher. Do you think the relateds have to have the same type of discovery as the core text or not? Pls help desperate adv student, thx xx
Yep, I’ll just paste the list I put here:
NOVELS
Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad The Pearl - John Steinbeck (one of the best) Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck The Silver Linings Playbook - Matthew Quick The Old Man and the Sea - Ernest Hemingway Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Johnathan Saffron-Fohr The Rosie Project - Graeme Simsion Lord of the Flies – William Golding The Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger Looking for Alibrandi - Melina Marchetta The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain
SHORT STORIES
Margaret Atwood – “The Tent” and “Bread” Joyce Carrol Oates – “Where is Here” Michael Sala – “Bodies” Tim Winton – “Big World”
NON FICTION WRITING
Growing Up Asian in Australia - Alice Pung Bully For Them Wrong About Japan - Peter Carey Good travel writing with a philosophical slant. Romulus, My Father - Raimond Gaita
POETRY
“My Father Began as a God” – Ian Mudie “On First Looking into Chapman’s Homer” - John Keats “We Drove to Auburn” – Fiona Wright “War Photographer” - Carol Ann Duffy “The Glass Jar”, “Father and Child” - Gwen Harwood “Five Visions of Captain Cook” - Kenneth Slessor “How Far is it to Heaven?” - Emily Dickinson “Looking Across the Fields and Watching the Birds Fly” - Wallace Stevens “Stepping Backward” - Adrienne Rich “Snake” - DH Lawrence “Digging” – Seamus Heaney “Butterfly” – Margaret Atwood “The Thought Fox” - Ted Hughes “My Father Began as a God” - Ian Mudie “What’s Coming Next?” - Jill Jones “Back Lanes” - Eileen Chongjin
What exactly do you mean by same kinds of discovery? Do you mean like an emotional/physical/spiritual discovery? It doesn’t need to be if that is what you mean- what’s more important is that you draw out what the character learns as a result of discovery. Your essay should be about the ramifications of discover e.g. transforms our perceptions, leads us to new worlds and values, NOT about what discoveries are made. Good luck!!

Have you ever been driving down the road, saw something in your rearview mirror and tried in vain to out run it, only to find it was attached to your bumper? That was the year 2020! Try as we might to out run it, it just stayed right where it was, sometimes seemingly gaining on us.
We had lots of plans for 2020 but what I call ‘The Plague’ had other ideas. So many trade shows, state wireless events, and other industry conferences had to be postponed, canceled or converted to ‘virtual’ events. The term ‘Zoom Meeting’ entered our lexicon and made the Zoom folks quite wealthy.
Unfortunately, ‘The Plague’ has continued on into 2021 with the cancellation of NATE UNITE 2021, the Tower Family Foundation Golf Event, and many other events that are normally scheduled for the first half of the year.
But the wireless industry is resilient and flexible. As an essential business, we have been instrumental in the broadband buildout that became more of a necessity than ever before. We are the backbone that has kept folks connected, whether via small cells, 5G, additional cell service to fill in dead zones, etc.
All of us in this industry should be proud of what we have accomplished in very difficult times and what we will continue to achieve in the future.
We added some new faces to our WIN Liaisons in 2020. Please welcome the following:
Louisiana Liaison, Darrin Wagner, TEST Communications
Nevada Liaison, Annmarie Feiler, V & G Telecom, LLC
New Hampshire Liaison, Donny Randall, Green Mountain Communications, Inc. (former Vermont Liaison)
New Jersey Liaison, Jonathan Ettere, Telecom Tower Rentals, LLC
Vermont Liaison, Ted Bartlett, SQUAN
A full list of our State Liaisons and Regional Ambassadors is included on www.natewin.org.  You may also want to check out our calendar of events at www.natewin.org/calendar-of-events/.
Please say hello when you see them at the various State Wireless Association events, Susan Harwood Grant Safety Training Courses, and other industry events in the United States and Canada. Don’t hesitate to contact them if WIN can help with your local event, job fair, legislative initiative, etc. For contact info visit natewin.org.
Wireless Industry Network (WIN) is a grassroots program designed to promote NATE’s regional, state and local efforts; support existing state and national wireless organizations; and facilitate communication between all stakeholders in the wireless industry.
WIN consists of a nationwide network of Regional Ambassadors and State Liaisons who are devoted to NATE’s mission and are passionate about  expanding the Association’s message of safety, quality, standards and education in order to reach all stakeholders in the wireless ecosystem.
NATE has experienced exponential growth over the last several years and the establishment of the WIN program is the next step for the Association to meet and service the needs of the entire mobile landscape. The WIN program will expand the Association’s influence by facilitating the coordinated deployment of NATE’s members and resources to engage individuals at the regional, state and local levels.
Scott Krouse is the Director of the Wireless Industry Network (WIN). He can be reached at 574-360-9004 or [email protected]
