Empowering Educators: Sikhanyiso’s Inspiring Journey with Suraasa
The journey from aspiration to achievement is never linear, but for Sikhanyiso Maviza, persistence, passion, and the right guidance turned challenges into opportunities. Her inspiring journey highlights the power of personal growth and professional mentorship, showing what’s possible when educators invest in themselves.
Finding Purpose in Education
Sikhanyiso started her teaching career in the UAE as a nursery teacher, driven by her love for education and her students. Before long, she was entrusted with a role in the Inclusion Department, where she worked with students requiring tailored support. While her passion was unwavering, she recognised that she lacked the tools and confidence to make the lasting impact she aspired to achieve.
In her search for guidance, Sikhanyiso discovered Suraasa, a platform dedicated to helping educators unlock their full potential. Despite initial hesitation, she took a leap of faith and enrolled in the Professional Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning (PgCTL) program. What followed was a transformative experience that reshaped not only her career but her outlook on teaching.
Suraasa went beyond academic learning, it offered Sikhanyiso a unique blend of personalised mentoring, emotional support, and resources designed to meet her specific needs. Even during significant life events, like the birth of her child, the Suraasa team provided unwavering support, demonstrating their understanding of her situation and their commitment to her professional growth.
Growing into Excellence
The PgCTL program equipped Sikhanyiso with essential skills in classroom management, lesson planning, and behaviour strategies. These newfound competencies enabled her to transition from a blended teacher to an intervention specialist, taking on more targeted roles that required addressing diverse learning needs with precision and care.
Her innovative methods and student-first approach didn’t just elevate her confidence—they garnered recognition. From her school principal to the CEO, Sikhanyiso’s impact was widely acknowledged, cementing her role as a leader and ambassador of excellence within her institution.
Sikhanyiso’s story is a powerful reminder that continuous learning and the right mentorship can unlock extraordinary opportunities. No matter where you are in your teaching journey, taking your first steps or striving to achieve greater milestones. Her story is a powerful reminder that every goal is within reach with the right guidance and perseverance.
So, are you ready to take the next step in your teaching career? Join the community of educators transforming their careers with Suraasa and discover how you can unlock your true potential. Suraasa is dedicated to empowering educators to make meaningful impacts in their classrooms and beyond.

The Journey to Becoming a teacher
Tumblr media
As Brad Cohen was looking and working to become a teacher, the journey had many challenges. Obtaining his degree and after a job on teaching was really hard and it required determination, perseverance and willingness to face the skepticism and doubts of people around him when they find out or were told by Brad Cohen itself about his condition.
He started a series of interviews with many universities, hoping to get admitted in their education programs. He believed that each interview was an opportunity to show not just his academic achievements but his passion for teaching and his commitment to make a difference.
During the interviews, he was often questioned about his Tourrete Syndrome. Some interviewers were concerned about his tics, and how they would affect his teaching skills, and how he would be able to manage a classroom full of students. But, despite this doubts Brad refused to let anyone define him based on his condition. He focused on demonstrating his knowledge, enthusiasm and ability to connect with students.
After several interviews he was finally accepted into a highly regarded education program. From here he immersed in studies, eager to acquire all the knowledge and skills necessary to create an impact and overall, an inclusive learning environment.
