He was here. He was here. HE WAS HERE. Chris felt like he knew that it would happen eventually - Aaron would drink himself to death, and there was nothing he could do to change that. But he didn’t count on his ex husband getting a liver transplant instead of being allowed to die. 

During that time in the hospital, his alcoholism and drug addictions were brought to light, and his family had decided that maybe it would be best for him to get some help. Aaron was allowed to pick where he went, and he knew exactly where he wanted to go. There would be no more restrictions with visiting days, there would be no way to keep them apart - he was going to New York, because he knew that, that’s where Chris resided. Despite the fact that Todd had tried to keep them from seeing each other after Chris’s reentry to Glendale, he could do nothing from stopping his ex-son-in-law from being admitted to a hospital to help his mental state. 

Upon hearing that a Washington was being admitted, a strange feeling settled into Chris’s stomach. He almost felt sick. Whether it was nervousness or being overcome with fear, he was unsure, but it didn’t matter. Then the first name came out of a nurse’s mouth, and the blonde had to excuse himself to the bathroom and empty the contents of his stomach into the toilet. He thought that this was all supposed to be over. This was the man he loved, the man he’d married, but this was also his abuser, the man that’d encouraged him to drink, the one who talked him into selling his body so they’d have more money to party. There were mixed feelings about it all, but the only one Chris could process at that moment was the feeling of being sick.

Arrival at Glendale wasn’t much different than when he’d come to visit before; he was searched, his pocket knife was taken away, and he’d been asked to remove the laces from his sneakers, all of which he complied with just to make the whole process easier. It didn’t take long to find his room and get some of his things settled in, mostly just unpacking his bag and setting a couple of things on the foot of his bed. Everything was going over smoothly until there was a knock on the door, and Aaron was almost certain that it’d be a doctor or nurse coming in. But it wasn’t. Before he could even answer, Chris had let himself in and shut the door behind him, hovering there rather than walking further into the room. The last time they’d seen each other had been nearly four months ago. There had been no goodbye kiss, no hug, not affection - just Chris screaming and crying, begging for Aaron to leave only to have him say no, until he finally had to be escorted out by a nurse and a guard. After that, there was only one phone call; the blonde had denied the others, refusing to answer.

There was a moment of hesitation, and he was almost afraid to answer, because he knew that Aaron was right - Chris couldn’t ignore him anymore, not when they were physically so close together, living in the same building. A shaky breath escaped him and he finally nodded as best as he could with the fingers around his neck. “Yeah, I - I know, I... I know.” The blonde stammered out, having to avert his gaze for a moment to blink back more tears before making eye contact again. He knew better than to look away for too long; one thing Aaron had always demanded was respect, and Chris was all too familiar with the consequences of not giving it.

“That’s what I thought.” The tattooed man said on an exhale, releasing the younger’s throat and taking a step back. He could tell that Chris was shaken up, and part of him was happy to still have that power over him. Climbing onto the bed, he laid down and kicked some things out of the way from the bottom of the bed, settling himself before holding an arm out. There was nothing else that didn’t need to be said, not right now. Chris knew the signal and climbed into the bed, curling up against the older man’s side and taking a deep breath. He didn’t know what to do, but right now he felt calmer than he had before, easily slipping back into their old routine rather than fighting it. He’d exhausted himself enough from crying that it didn’t take much for him to fall asleep, thumb of one hand in his mouth and the other hand laying on Aaron’s chest.

Aaron had been nervous about the whole move to Glendale, but this was normal and it made the whole thing seem easier. He petted Chris’s hair as he slept, just watching him and listening to the little sounds he made. After a while, he remembered what he brought with him; digging in his pocket with his free hand, the man pulled out a small gold band with a single diamond in the center - it wasn’t much, but it was what he could afford - and slipped it onto the ring finger of the smaller hand that rested on his chest. It had been months since he’d seen his husband wear the ring, but seeing it now made him feel better and got some of the uneasy feelings to go away, at least for a while.

So, Im broke and I know its a really awful idea to drive without car insurance, but Im a little unclear about what the rules actually are.
