I just had to share my experience watching Tate no Yuusha, and afterwards reading Yari no Yuusha. I have never seen a series shift the vibe so much; It goes from portraying Naofumi (the protagonist of the series) as this bitter, cunning and powerful man (very much like an isekai protagonist) to "breedable and ultimate waifu of the series who must be protected at all costs". I have never seen such determined manga trying to portray their stallion male protagonist as this malewife, adorable 20 something precious thing. That's our job??? (The fandom)

I have receipts underneath if you are interested. No spoilers and no need to know the plot, just...look at this guy and keep in mind he is the protagonist of a somehow generic isekai shounen...

LONG POST WARNING

Please I need you to know this is not the first nor the last time people will fight in Naofumi's name. They will wage war for him (twice).

Ok maybe I am looking into it a bit too much, but I felt there was a suggestive undertone in this part. If it were a female, I would be sure to point it out as light fanservice (having a character talk about a part of their body that can have a suggestive tone)

I am, again, looking into it too much but usually this reaction is reserved for female characters in shounen (hiding their face in their hands as they blush).

These next panels were what prompted me to write this post. In the anime, the heroes of the story fall into despair at some point, and their love interest is responsible for pulling them out of it. BUT FOR MOTOYASU, IT ISN'T FILO BUT RATHER NAOFUMI WHO DOES THE JOB???

They are saying goodbye and Naofumi just had to have this "tragic heroine who will forever love their hero even if they never meet again"

Now that is a very queer thing to say, Naofumi

And this made me laugh so hard like WHERE DID THIS COME FROM???? MY GIRL YUKI SPREADING SUBMISSIVE NAOFUMI AGENDA

Also the mom of the pack alongside dad Motoyasu

In conclusion I love the fact that the spin-off decided to sexualize their 20 year old pathetic man than children. Honestly it made me laugh for a good while.

I find it funny how Filo copies Naofumi's mannerisms. She is basically just his adoptive child, mini Naofumi.

The thing with Tate no Yuusha isn't the existence or use of dark themes in the story but ultimately it's good set up but terrible resolution which kinda leaves you asking "what is up with the setup if he's just gonna keep having more slaves?"

Tate no Yuusha starts with Naofumi being placed in an impossible situation where he is transported to another world and is immediately betrayed by those who summoned him.

The story teaches you that his trauma caused his attitude to be skewed and he makes morally questionable decisions. He's angry. He's defensive. He's all alone. And that led him to getting entangled in slave trade. His interest in the magic system of a slave not being able to go against their master is a trauma response. (Not all trauma responses are good.)

Except Naofumi starts caring for Raphtalia. And then Filo. Then, they go on this journey. And through the story, it reinforces this idea that Naofumi is a kind guy actually. That he's reliable. That he helps people. And he's nothing like Myne said he was.

Then, he is given the opportunity to prove that and we learn there's politics in play. That's why they were so hostile to him. Now the main cause of his emotional trauma, Myne, is proven guilty in front of everyone.

And then you'd think "wow not that the cause of his trauma is gone, he'd think twice about the slave marks. Raphtalia and Filo has more than proven that they care for him and trust him. And it's not that evil is inherent in every human person and he need not be guarded against them."

If Naofumi really truly irrefutably is the kind and reliable guy in the first half, what should've come next is to reinforce that kindness by removing the marks and admitting what he did was not right.

Raphtalia and Filo would forgive him. They're practically found family at this point.

Even if Raphtalia had like a Stockholm syndrome thing going on, they could've easily created a scenario where Naofumi orders her to run to safety while he handles something life-threatening. You know, like the one where they fought the dog monster at the start? Yeah, a parallel to that. Where instead of ordering her to fight he orders her to run. And she has her own realization about the mark and its effects.

Instead he gets more slave girls but it's all good cause 2x EXP ig. Like MAN you build up a morally gray character who is more good than bad and just hasn't been given the opportunity to show he's a good and decent person. Then, once he gets the opportunity, you reduce him to generic isekai trash guy like 😔😭💀

Atla stans we are so here omg 😩 we feasted today. Awesome conclusion to the demon dragon emperor mini arc.

The demon dragon was no joke, even everyone combined was no match for it. Atla and Fohl’s combination completely changed the tide of battle. I’ve watched Atla’s attack sequence like 100x already and it doesn’t get old. Insane levels of sakuga and choreography in that moment. Truly living up to her name as Naofumi’s shield

We got to see the rest of Wyndia’s backstory as well which was nice. I love how even though she and her dad couldn’t directly communicate, they were still able to share their feelings with one another. She’s mourning the loss of her dad, but little does she know he’ll always be with her. Very nice ending for everyone involved

After reading Yari no Yuusha, I have to share with you all the various moments of Motoyasu being an absolute simp for Naofumi and how they actually make a cute pair in the manga

To start off with Motoyasu blushing with Naofumi calling for him

No but the way Motoyasu sees Naofumi as this wide eye, blushing man-

Overprotective "friend"

Like why are you imagining your friend riding something dude

Also checking out your bros, like the good bro you are

Motoyasu gaslighting Naofumi that he slept with a man

Naofumi as Motoyasu wife chewing him out

Ok I gotta comment on this but Motoyasu said various times that he felt Filo's scent on Naofumi but Filo hasn't even been born so I truly believe he just likes Naofumi's scent, in this essay I will-

Motoyasu likes being praised by his partner (boyfriend)

Shared custody. Please just get married

Has anyone actually read the Shield Hero light novel? Like, the whole thing? Because I want to catch up but Naofumi's inner dialogue is killing me and the writing style is a bit confusing to me.

If anyone has the time and is willing please feel free to give any and all spoilers!
