Antonio Plazibat vs. Tariq Osaro - Glory Collision 5
Lots of heavyweight action this weekend as both of these men are fighting. Though not each other.
Croatian Antonio Plazibat looked like he was the #2 heavyweight on the planet for a hot second. He was knocking out fighters like Benjamin Adegbuyi and Tarik Khbabez while aiming to face off with Rico Verhoeven. But he was derailed in upset loss to Tariq Osario in 2023 that cost him the interim title and a shot at Rico. Plazibat hasn't fought since, but that changes for Glory 95 as the promotion heads to Croatia. He will face off with Levi Rigters in the main event this Saturday (Sept. 21).
Tariq Osaro is looking to rebound himself. After beating Plazibet for the interim title last year, he faced off with Rico Verhoeven and it didn't go well. He looked tepid and was outworked to a decision loss. A common occurrence in the Rico era. But when given the chance for revenge in the heavyweight grand prix earlier this year, Tariq would lose in the first round to Bahram Rajabzadeh. So now he looks to fight the win column again. Osaro will face off with Uku Jürjendal, also at Glory 95.

Rico Verhoeven takes dominant decision over Tariq Osaro to defend heavyweight title.
effin heavyweight. Every time you get hyped for a fight, you get reminded that you can't trust these guys to show up.
Verhoeven looked like Verhoeven. Maybe a little more rugged than we're used to but the feints, the touching volume shots into power shots, the kicks to the body, and closing distance to take away his opponent's return fire. All there. What wasn't there was Tariq Osaro. He looked like Derrick Lewis when he fought Cyril Gane. Just straight confused by what he was seeing. Didn't throw anything except for one big power shot that landed in the 4th. But he was content to sit back and let Verhoeven get in target practice. I think all the hand feinting and push kicks into stance switches probably messed with him and made him hesitant to pull the trigger but he never got his timing for the big clubbing hooks he wanted. Verhoeven did a good job of disguising his entries, kicking out the lead foot, and/or crashing into Osaro to end the exchange.
I don't care how frustrated you are though. You're fighting the champ in his backyard who is coming off a long layoff due to injury. You have to bring the fight to him and Osaro just did not want to do that.
I don't even know what is left for Rico. 10+ title defenses in the heavyweight division of ANY combat sport means you have no contenders left. Antonio Plazibat? This upcoming Glory Heavyweight Grand Prix? Give mma or boxing a shot?

Bahram Rajabzadeh vs Tariq Osaro | GLORY Heavyweight Grand Prix 202
Bahram Rajabzadeh started off his 2024 by competing in the Glory HW Grand Prix. The Azerbaijani kickboxer came up short, losing in the semis to Levi Ritgers but beat former Glory interim heavyweight champion Tariq Osaro. He was never a big heavyweight, coming in at 6'1 and 220lbs, so with Glory putting together a light heavyweight grand prix, it makes sense that Rajabzadeh joins the bracket.
Rajabzadeh will compete in the one night 8-man grand prix this Saturday (June 8). His quarterfinal opponent will be Ibrahim El Bouni.

Bahram Rajabzadeh vs Tariq Osaro | GLORY Heavyweight Grand Prix 2024
Bahram Rajabzadeh was a recent addition to Glory who had raised eyes fighting on local kickboxing scenes because he knocked out almost everyone he fought. Think he has like a 90% KO rate. Impressive. While he didn't score many KOs competing in the Glory Heavyweight division, he made a good account of himself. He beat out former interim champ Tariq Osaro in the HW Grand Prix and lost to finalist Levi Ritgers. Now he's moving down to light heavyweight. Just in time for their upcoming LHW grand prix.
His next opponent will be Kevin Oumar, an MMA fighter and a 2x French national kickboxing champion. The two will face off at Glory 91 this Saturday (April 27).

Tariq Osaro vs. Murat Aygun - Glory 85
Tariq Osaro is on a run. The Nigerian kickboxer has won 4 in a row via KO, a stretch that led to him winning the interim Glory heavyweight championship. It's the type of momentum you need when you are facing the most dominant champion in Glory history.
Osaro will challenge a returning Rico Verhoeven for his Glory Kickboxing heavyweight title this Saturday (Nov. 4) in the headliner of Glory: Collision 6.

Tariq Osaro stops Antonio Plazibat in the 5th! New interim Glory Heavyweight champion!
Osaro brings the interim heavyweight title home to Nigeria. Fun fight. Osaro just never let up tonight. Kept the volume high and the offense varied. Even with his back to the ropes, he was making Plazibat miss and riding punches off the gloves to counter back. Invested to the body and broke Plazibat. Just a fantastic performance from the new interim champ!

Rico Verhoeven vs. Tariq Osaro - Glory Collision 6
Rico Verhoeven returned from his long layoff and it was like he never left. The Glory Heavyweight champion easily pacified Tariq Osaro to an easy UD win. Disappointing in some regards as a fan, because Tariq Osaro spent most of 2023 winning these gutsy performances including winning a one night tournament. And he went out there and looked completely passive against Verhoeven.
Both fighters will be taking part in the Glory Heavyweight Grand Prix happening this Saturday (March 9). The two will be participating in the one night grand prix, starting with the quarterfinals. Verhoeven will face off with Sofian Laidouni and Osaro will face off with Bahram Rajabzadeh.

Holy shit Antonio Plazibat just dropped the referee. He was trying to break him and Osaro up at the bell and ate a right hook. Referee got up but they are switching out the ref for one that doesn’t likely have a concussion

Bahram Rajabzadeh vs. Uku Jurjendal - Glory 87
It is finally time for the one night 8-man Glory Heavyweight Grand Prix. After a year of qualifying bouts, hype, and promises, it is time to see how this thing shakes out and if anyone out there can beat Rico Verhoeven. Two hopefuls in the tournament are Bahram Rajabzadeh and Uku Jurjendal.
Azerbaijani kickboxer Rajabzadeh won a 4 man tournament to qualify for this Grand Prix last August. While he's not a particularly large heavyweight, he is a proven finisher with stoppages in something like 90% of his wins. He faces former Glory interim champion Tariq Osaro in the opening round of the tournament.
Estonian Jurjendal finds himself in the Grand Prix despite not winning his qualifying tournament. He will face off against Levi Rigters.
The Glory Heavyweight Grand Prix will take place this Saturday (March 9).

Interesting couple of weeks for heavyweights.
The lineal UFC heavyweight champ (Francis Ngannou) fought and battered the lineal world heavyweight boxing champ (Tyson Fury). The top heavyweight in kickboxing (Rico Verhoeven) returns to action after injury against a red hot #1 contender (Tariq Osaro) this week. We see if Jailton Almeida has it in him to double leg Derrick Lewis. And of course we have the interim title fight between Pavlovich and Aspinall in two weeks.

Levi Rigters KOs Uku Jürjendal in the 2nd round!
Crazy first fight in the Glory Kickboxing Heavyweight Grand Prix. Rigters comes out and is immediately aggressive. Tries to exchange with Jurjendal but eats a glancing overhand right to the temple as well as a backfist off the same hand that lands behind the right ear and it drops him. To Rigters credit, he didn't look wobbly when he got up. Mostly a bit embarrassed. He got up and immediately settled down. Leg kicks were his main offense until the 2nd round where he landed a powerful overhand to the temple that floored Jurjendal. Jurjendal got up but was basically out on his feet. Had no idea where he was. Huge comeback for Rigters.
Rigters moves to the semi-finals! Next is Tariq Osaro vs Bahram Rajabzadeh.
