Intro Post!
General Info
Name: Kelpie
Pronouns: they/them
Genres: fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, YA
Main Blog: @witch-of-the-sands
I'm not great at writing yet since I've only been doing it for roughly 6-ish years so this will be mostly WIP gabbing and OC brainrot.
WIP info
(I'm currently working on a masterdoc for all my WIPs as well as WIP and character intros!)
My main two stories (with names) currently are:
The Dark Place
A teen dystopian sci-fi where a government will buy children from poor families to experiment on them for militaristic purposes. Members of their experiments, however, have slowly been breaking out of their testing facilities over the last 8 years and how slowly been building a resistance called The Dark Place.
Main Characters: Pipe (Peter) Darling, Solstice Basara, Jace Ivord, Caroline Darling, Forrest Addison
This one is a joint work with a friend of mine!
Westwood
Set far in the future, the entire solar system has been conquered by humanity. Anywhere and everywhere is capable of being traveled to. For triplets Violet, Bell, and Senna Carter, however, they've been stuck on Mars for as long as they can remember. But when their father gets a new job as a biological history professor at the mysterious (and private) Westwood University in New America on Earth, they get the chance to leave just in time for their freshman year of college.
Violet, struggling through the first semester of college, meets Talia Maitra-West, her English tutor, and also the granddaughter of the Dean.
Senna, known for his graffiti murals on Mars, finds himself ostracized in his traditional art classes until he meets the mysterious Corbyn at a party one night, a body modification apprentice in the nearby college town.
Bell, goes missing right after spring break.
When the police entirely unhelpful, Violet and Senna decide to go on the hunt for themselves.
Main Characters: Violet Carter, Talia Maitra-West Bell Carter, Senna Carter

To me what binds Talia and Violet together is their love for music and culture. They're two very different people, like polar opposites.
Talia's an English major, and a reader, she goes to museums on the weekends and studies in the library daily. She takes her friends shopping and for coffee where they sit and read classics, and she wants to become a professor so she can teach at WU and eventually become a department head. She takes naturally to the pen, is extremely emotionally intuitive, a clean person. Very neat and tidy, she doesn't know what to do with herself if she's not perfectly organized.
Violet is her polar opposite, she's grungy and rebellious. She hates school, hates rules, hates policing. She's failing all her classes, stays out all night and wakes up at noon with her eyeliner in smudgy halos around her face. On the other hand of that, she's very street smart, a street racer. She's smart as a whip when it comes to her bike, and racing. She's brash and loud, curses every other word, and is the most beautiful girl ever and I'm in love with her.
Like these two would NOT be friends though? Except for the fact that you can see it work. They're both vastly creative people in opposing areas, and when they share it with each other it's beautiful. It starts with them finding out they both like the kind of 90s alternative. While Violet is more grunge and Talia's more goth, it works out. It balances.
Then you see it blend more, Talia's reading to Violet while she touches up the spray paint on her bike. Violet's taking her to basement shows at WU. Talia's taking her to museums and Violet's taking her to races and their hearts are just entangling to the point their interests are one.
Idk that's just how their relationship reads to me.

A short piece on aged up Violet and Talia because I cannot get them off my mind.
Talia didn't sleep the nights Violet was gone. Out until all hours of the night always with tepid offers for her to come that she rarely accepted.
All too dangerous. All too late.
She'd occupy her time with books, reading them aloud to the walls for discussion. Plating blackened cookies for calloused hands, another pastime. Dozing off into students English essays before she'd finally head to their room, mussing the covers Vi meticulously made before work.
All too dangerous. All too late.
Violet was always quiet when she returned, taking off her heavy boots before she even opened the front door. The gasoline smell always woke Talia from fitful sleep. A welcome scent compared to the nights like iron and singe.
All too dangerous. All too late.
They'd do their dance. Vi would apologize for waking her, she'd say she didn't mind. She didn't. Vi would strip herself bare under the watching eye of Talia buried deep in her pillow; her hair like a halo from the hall light. She'd hiss as her cracked knuckles broke open, rush to the bathroom to keep the bloodstains out of the carpet like she knew Talia hated. And Talia loved her, bloodstains and all.
All too dangerous. All too late.
Violet would return and fall on top of the covers, her hands reaching for Talia like she brought her life. Talia would kiss her expertly wrapped hands like she did, blood still seeping under the bandages. She'd pull her tight and ask her how her night was and her soul relaxed into safety. Violet would whisper to her about races, fights, chases, until Talia was finally able to rest. She should have listened.
All too dangerous. All too late.
Talia didn't sleep the nights Violet was gone. She needed to feel her under her hands, hear her voice, breathe in gasoline and smoke and blood and life. She didn't sleep the nights Violet was gone.
All too dangerous. All too late.
