@thegreythreat No one can connect to your phone and remove the application, it's not a website.
What it means is that it will no longer get updates for it nor for any extensions, unless you install an alternative.
Disable updates, wait for like, a month or so, and eventually it will be obvious which alternative is the obvious one to go.

I think the most startling thing about the Tachiyomi news is how many people I've seen complaining about manhwa in general being the cause of the app's shutdown, like "I don't even read shitty manhwa so it sucks to have those people interfering with my glorious manga reading" as if manhwa fans have any influence on Kakao's litigiousness. Like, people read manhwa on Tachiyomi partially because Kakao's legitimate business practices suck ass too. And I can guaran-fuckin-tee you that if there was a manga publisher as litigious as Kakao we'd have seen something like that sooner rather than later from the Japanese side as well. There's no sense getting weirdly anti-Korean and xenophobic about all this.

btw, if you guys have not heard of tachiyomi yet, this is your sign to make it your manga reader. open source, new updates come out frequently, it lets you set custom filters for your manga reader (adjusting brightness, reading mode, and even adding custom colour filters + it lets you download chapters with no limit.) tachiyomi functions by adding extensions within the app, if you add the mangadex extension for instance, you can search mangadex through tachiyomi and add the manga you want to read to your tachiyomi library. it has hundreds of extensions of pretty much every manga (and webtoon, manhwa, manhua etc) aggregate and translation site you can think of. download tachiyomi, it'll make your life better (and most importantly: NO ADS. NONE. EVER.)

TL;DR, grab the source if you want it, they're taking everything down due to legal threats from the company that runs Tapas.

tl;dr
Tachiyomi will no longer be actively developed. It may continue to work for you for the foreseeable future but there will be no support for it nor the official extensions.
I'm sad to announce that, with unanimous support from the fellow core contributors and support staff, the core Tachiyomi project will no longer be under active development due to recent events involving Kakao Entertainment Corp's threats to both myself and others that have been involved with the project.
While many will be understandably angry or disappointed in our lack of backbone or perceived selfishness, please understand that this project has merely served as a simple hobby to many of us with no financial incentive and such events have proved unworthy of investing additional time and effort.
Personally, I've learned a lot while working on Tachiyomi:
Various facets of Android development including its hellscape of rapidly changing languages, libraries, and APIs.
Considerations when developing an app used by millions of people yet working with very little data on how they use it, and how to shape user behavior in a longer-term more sustainable fashion.
How to design things to make things accessible to the average, not necessarily tech-literate, user.
No matter what you used Tachiyomi for, I hope it gave you some happier times. I sincerely hope to see a future where content will be more accessible to fans around the world and that creators can truly share their creations in a sustainable and healthy manner for them.
I want to take the time to thank everybody who has been involved:
The hundreds of global contributors, including to the app, extensions, website, and translations.
The volunteers who helped manage/moderate Discord, GitHub, and the social media accounts; you all have ridiculous patience.
Anybody who submitted feedback or bug reports, helping further improve the project.
And also a huge sorry to anybody who had pull requests that were left open, I was hoping to get to those at some point.
In the upcoming days:
Our core GitHub repositories will be taken down.
The official social media accounts will be closed.
The official Discord server will be repurposed into a general community for those who are interested in staying.
Note that existing installations cannot be affected by us. Anything new called Tachiyomi or claiming to be its successor have no relation to the original developers. Always practice caution when downloading or installing anything from unknown sources.
As always, directly support your favorite content creators if you are in a position to do so.
Thank you,
— arkon
P.S. There's an earlier post about the extensions being removed in case you missed it.
P.P.S. I think someone on Reddit owes someone else $100 now.

To all my manwha readers out there, do y'all know any alternative for Tachiyomi? Because I heard the website is being shut down and I have 185 stories I'm currently reading and I cannot have that many tabs open. HELP.

Your take on Kakao going after Tachiyomi?
Briefly mentioned it here before, but honestly: it sucks.
They went for an easier target (than the pirate sites that actually host manwha), they threaten legal action (which obviously will result in complying by Tachiyomi devs even though Kakao has no case) and spread a bunch of misinformation for purpose of scaremongering.
My take on piracy in general is that it happens when getting your product legally is significantly more difficult than getting it illegally. As a result you can either make the former easier, or make the latter more difficult. Kakao is going for the latter.
In the end all of this will achieve nothing in long-term perspective except making initial setup of Tachiyomi slightly harder (you will have to add extension repository separately), and/or make Tachiyomi harder to find on the Internet (no big deal, Tachiyomi's existence was already spread through word of mouth), and the usual pirate whack-a-mole will go on.
