I was listening to the Moana soundtrack and...
They have stolen the heart from inside you....
But this does not define you....
This is not who you are...
You know who you are
Who you truly are

I can almost see Ock getting redeemed. He was abused and snapped. If maybe he could somehow be respected without harming anyone he might take that path. I bet if someone were to point out that he’s no better than Osborne he’d probably rethink some things
To be completely honest (and late, *sips starbucks*) I can’t see him getting fully redeemed, but I can see him being soft to those he trusts. Mainly Adrian – he and Toomes were friends before EITHER of them started on their path to super-villainy.
I like though, how they did the snap and the ‘leading up to’ parts. He was meek, scared, a doormat to everyone (especially Norman, man FUCK Norman). Did what everyone asked of him and I can even assume that he went the extra mile and worked his ass off.
In the comics, he gave up the love of his life for (I forgot the reason other than I’m p sure Momma didn’t like her and gave him an ultimatum of ME OR HER!!) and never loved again, and since so much of TSSMA is like the comics, I like to assume this may have happened as well. We don’t get any of his home life (or backstory past when the series starts, Petey being fresh into the Spidey gig at at 16,) but I also like to assume his dad was abusive and his mom coddled him too much.
But back to my thoughts on how they portrayed it. I write Doc Ock from TSSMA as being a cute little 5′2, and the camera angles certainly paint him small enough to be that small. (Seeing as Petey says himself that he’s 5′6, and Doc is a few inches shorter than he is, I like to say either 5′2- 5′4 at the MOST). Shot from above him (think like a camera in a live-action setting) and pointed down, he is literally looked down upon when he’s in a shot/scene all by himself, like how the world looks down upon him. His coat collars are down, his shoulders hunched. A people pleaser. He wants to disappear, not attract attention nor cause waves by voicing his opinions.
After that telltale, classic, (and frankly heartbreaking) Doc Ock SNAP, EVERYTHING changes. His wardrobe – high, turned up collar to speak of being guarded. Goggles, not showing pupils, speaking of shrouding his motives like they shroud his eyes. And his arms, how he’s 99% up on at least two of them since he’s tired of being small and looked down upon.
OH and the ANGLES !! Let me SPEAK of the CAMERA ANGLES. Shot from below, looking up. He takes up MOST if not ALL of the frame in most of his shots, signifying he’s bigger, a threat. Looking down upon instead of BEING looked down upon.
His voice changes, revealing nothing but anger when Spidey gets in his way. (that sultry tone is NOT fair).
It’s like he’s an entirely new person, or an evil clone. Though he doesn’t see himself as evil, he sees himself as getting retribution for all that hard work he’s received little to nothing for all these years. If anything, he’s forcing the world to break even with him and give him what he deserves.
Even when I don’t condone his actions, I can see what drove him to take such drastic measures.
And like they say (idk where but i know ppl have said it, and idk if its tru or not… thinking emoji) once a wild animal tastes human blood, they won’t go back to regular prey.
Personally, I can’t see him getting a full redemption ark unless he was permanently devested of his arms and made to see reason, because if I were him I would be even MORE on guard with all the enemies I’d racked up when I could no longer defend myself with eight limbs. And I’d be all the faster recreating them while maintaining the false pretense that I was changed for the better and a threat to no one.
Now that he’s seen what it’s like to be in control, I can’t rightly see him giving it up and conforming to rules of a society that condemned him.
Though.... Comparing him to the person he hates the most might be the shock he needs to realize that he’s no better, arguably worse, than him. It might actually make him rethink things, and if anything might make him back off from being a public threat to a small blip on the radar if he retires early and flees while he can.

This weekend was awesome. I gave Steve Blum a green goblin sticker pack and he was SO thrilled and sincerely taken aback. He gave me a big hug and offered me a free autograph I told him I wish he had a print of gobby cause I'd get him to sign that. So he told me if I made one he'd sign that for me instead. So I did. And he gave me another hug and thanked me again. And then he read the line he wrote in gobby's voice it was so awesome

ME: Man, I really miss 'Spectacular Spider-Man.' DISNEY: What about the new Spidey cartoon we're making for this year? ME: Shut up Disney and take your Spider-Toast elsewhere! DISNEY: Here's a cool promo we made that uses animation that kinda looks like Voltron, and the characters actually talk like real people, and we also made Peter look a *little* bit different from most versions of him, taking a bit of a creative spin without making him too much out of character. ME: ~YOUR SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN.~

Please note: I used the “tssma” tag at a time we feared that what became Into the Spider-Verse would have the name “Spectacular Spider-Man.” Because I want my content to be more accessible to newer people in the TSSM fandom, all of the tags have been converted to “tssm” from this point on.

Honestly, no, I don’t find that weird at all. They’re the most well rounded characters I’ve seen in a while, in which they have their strengths, weaknesses, quirks, likes and dislikes, traumas and ethics, etc. that’s part of why I like TSSMa so much — there was SO MUCH care and consideration put into not only the characters, but how they would interact and the story along with it.
Out of all of the six I can most see those two getting a redemption arc. Or at least, the equivalent to breaking even.
Flint Marco didn’t really feel like he was going into the whole thing wanting to be a super villain. He just wanted one lucky break, wanted to strike it big, and then disappear peacefully on his own island or something. Just one last job and flee, living in comfort after so long of working his ass off to get where he was.
And, obviously, who could forget his pained screams as he was experimented on? He said stop and they continued, even as he wanted to back out. He may have wanted it at one point in time, but he ended up changing his mind once it started to hurt. It’s interesting to think about, considering he feels like one of the least prone to fighting amongst the six, at least to me. Like he has a sense of “it was fun beating you up but I got shit to do” when he first sees Spidey, versus Rhino legit trying to kill Peter with everything he’s got, Doc being forced to leave cuz his arms would’ve given out, Dr. Connors on Lizard brains etc.
And honestly the whole situation of when The Big Man pays his (and O’Hirn’s) bail, it’s “an offer you can’t refuse” kinda ordeal. Like he works for Tombstone, who works for the Big Man, etc, and there’s a HIERARCHY there. You can’t refuse a superior.
Of course since it’s called Spectacular SPIDER-MAN, he’s painted into a villain role and so on and so forth.
Because also, who can forget one of his last scenes sticking up for the girl being bullied on the beach? He hates bullies, hates seeing the underdog being picked on because he used to BE the underdog. And he was quick to hide it too, almost ashamed when he learned Hammerhead had seen it. You get where I’m going, right? Tough exterior hiding a softer, less brute interior?
And on that note, how he didn’t mention or show he’d survived the freighter fight after saving not only Spidey but the shipmen from the exploding gasoline. Odds are he was scared that Tombstone had seen that and was not impressed. If I’d essentially fucked up a multimillion dollar hustle and saved lives (which are two big no nos in the crime world I’m assuming) I would have turned tail and fled too.
Also we can’t forget Max. Who’s main fault is impatience and anger issues. He only wants a cure in the beginning, even if he DOES go about it in all the wrong ways. It’s a big change, I get that, and I would have freaked out too. Though I also feel if he was to actually GET that cure, 100% normal, no lingering effects, I feel like as time went on, he would be less and less inclined to take it. Getting used to his abilities, getting used to the power that came with them. It would be hard to go back to being A Regular Joe, especially if his life was shitty to begin with. Low wage jobs, didn't finish college, no S/O— if I were him, I’d embrace the power (even at the loss of being able to eat, drink or do other things regularly) Because it might have given him a sense of purpose.
But yeah, I don’t think that’s weird at all. Out of all of them, those two are the most likely, based on their shown characteristics, to actually take up an offer for an arc. Cuz the others stick HARD to their guns. Kraven will never stop hunting until Spidey’s mask is on his wall, Doc will NEVER be satisfied to go back to being who he was (and THAT is an ENTIRE other tangent I’ll gather my thoughts on later), Norman will never not be a total jackass, etc etc.
But those are just my thoughts. As much as I hate the cliffhanger we were given, I’m glad Flint is at least in a position to slip away quietly and go somewhere else. That boy needs a vacation.
Apologies for the weird format, the damn ask wouldn’t show up in my desktop.
