My roommate, in her infinite wisdom, commented a few weeks ago that I had begun to say "man" more often after watching Tron.

Later, while driving home from work, bitterly thinking about her comment, I wondered:

"Does CLU sometimes talk like Flynn by accident and get mad about it?"

And that's the explanation behind this comic. I hope you enjoy it, man.

I'm so obsessed with Tron Legacy it's just this beautiful little fucked up movie that is INTENSELY dedicated to being a synaesthetic art piece while also hitting Disney's mandated sad dad storyline from the late 2000s

But EVERY SCENE is gorgeous. Almost every FRAME you could put on your wall as an art piece. Daft Punk did the soundtrack! You can't GET shit like this anymore it's just a one in a billion event where everything came together right

They got away with so much and no disney movie will ever go this hard ever again

I love that programs find hobbies/jobs outside of what their creators designated for them.

Tron, a security program but also in love with sports and games

Shaddox, an architect but he's a bartender as well

Paige, a medic but she wanted to be a musician and she's currently in the army

Beck, a mechanic but he goes beyond it and fights too

Programs aren't beholden to their programming. They can and will go beyond that. As a hobby or as a job or as an ambition. They have free will.

i'm rewatching tron uprising again for the first time in a while and I'd forgotten just how... graphic??? some of the violence is

holes punched in chests (multiple occasions)! a bisected guard dragging themself across the floor & trailing digital gore! a (failed) public execution where the prisioners are being pulled apart by lightcycles! dyson's caved-in skull! tron's entire fucking torture scene that was genuinely harrowing to watch! let's carve out his eye! let's carve out tron's fucking eye!

Happy 12th Anniversary. As I said back in the 6th anniversary, let's raise a glass to a show that deserved SO MUCH MORE.

“Can’t steal something that was designed to be free” - Sam Flynn

Tron is fundamentally cyberpunk in nature.

The key themes in the series, all throughout each piece of media, is

The freedom of information

Ownership of creation

Revolution

Hope for the future

Each turn of the story is based on the era Tron was made in, which is a time where the internet belonged to the people, when the ideas for its use were based in the common use of technology. Tron represents not just cool disk battles, but the core ideas of the cyberpunk genre, & a hope for a free internet. If you do not have these elements, you don’t have Tron.

So fun fact: I had actually never seen any of the Tron movies until kinda recently. I really love the franchise now, and most especially the titular character.

I was so heartbroken to discover that the movie ended without a proper resolution to his story. We know his circuitry changed back to blue(white?), but then what? Is he still alive? Does he ever make it out of the sea of simulation?

This painting is my resolution to that question, I guess. Tron washes up on the beach as his circuitry color changes.
