Tmagp idea barf post 😋 spoilers ahead
Ok ok question, how do we know tmagp is not in the same universe? The Magnus institute burned down 20 years ago; what year does this take place?
My running theory (since tmag ended) is that Basira, Melanie, and Georgie created a orginization of some kind to combat the fears, so what if instead of this being a whole new universe its the same; but the fears changed and morphed like animals do over time when their environment changes
Instead of solely making people suffer the worst, they use symbols to lay claim, like a language of sorts?
Also, gotta love the age old use of outdated technology to harness the power of fears
And colin, colin is very silly to me— mr he is going to reach for too much; & so is gwen in that manner
If this is the same universe, bouchard is either a red herring or she’s maybe a cousin or something 🤔
And augustus; okay i actually really want it to be either someone NEW like someone we dont know but later learn about, OR jonah magnus himself
Overall, very excited, cant wait for the eye (or its equivalent) to make sam its special little guy

confession/desecrated host - a two part episode, so i'm reviewing it as one whole statement.
religion in horror religion in horror religion in horror- i'm never getting over that "i'm sorry, it wants your faith" line like oh god. imagine being a priest, devoting your life to god, only to have something come and steal his name from your mouth. some malevolent entity usurping your god's place, forcing you to desecrate all your beliefs while you remain horrifically unaware that you're defiling everything you hold sacred...
the level of contempt in this episode is actually out of this world, i can't think of any other episode that chooses a target so purposely, knowing it can truly ruin someone's life and make them suffer.
Ranking: 10, religion and horror religion and horror religion and horror re-

Honma’s Newest Game Improvement Clubs-XP-1
By ED TRAVIS
A year ago, golf industry executive Mark King former TaylorMade Golf CEO became a “strategic advisor” for Honma Golf and even without any insider information the reason was apparent. The Japan-based Honma wanted a bigger presence in the American, indeed the world, equipment market. King has now moved on to the top spot at Taco Bell, but he left his imprint on their view of the equipment business.
The most obvious so far was the signing of Olympic Gold Medalist and the then world number one Justin Rose to an endorsement contract in January 2019 by King. Rose had been part of the TMaG stable, a slot he held for 20 years since turning professional.
All this is by way of introduction to Honma’s newest game-improvement club family XP-1. The newbies have some interesting features and retail in the upper end of the price range usually seen from major manufacturers.
The XP-1 driver has a double slot in the sole to allow the face to flex over wider area which of course is helpful for those times when impact is not exactly in the center and, acknowledging that 80 percent of recreational players slice the ball, weighting has a built-in draw bias to assist squaring the club for straighter shots. The super-light ribbed crown (Honma says is the thinnest in the industry) means the center of gravity is lower in the head, closer to the sole, which promotes a high launch and provides additional forgiveness.
To adjust the loft, lie and face angle the XP-1 driver has an innovative through-the-head design that does not require the shaft to be rotated when dialing in a setting. This is especially important since for best results the high response Vizard shaft is spine-aligned in the factory and when adjustments are made that alignment is retained.
The XP-1 Fairway Woods and Hybrids have a clean look similar to the driver and the 3-wood uses the lightweight carbon fiber crown construction. Both fairways and hybrids have the double sole slot construction and the fairways use an internal weight placement to provide better ball launch.
XP-1 Irons have a large traditional profile with a cavity back and a thin face for added ball speed. Turf contact is improved with the wide soles which also helps forgiveness by adding weight low in the head. Low and medium loft irons (4- to 7-iron) have a hollow construction and a tungsten sole weight while the high lofts (8-iron to sand wedge) have an extra deep cavity for better ball launch conditions.

which tmags episode should i most be looking forward to?
oh god, what a question. all of them. all of the episodes.
or. more realistically (i guess 🙄🙄🙄) on your first listen through, there are really two categories that matter: interesting statement episodes, and interesting plot episodes.
these categories aren't mutually exclusive, obviously, but i'm going to point out which is which, in case you're curious which episodes i think are good, and which i think are relevant. or... relevant to the season 1 plot. fun fact, i think 11 of the first 40 episodes are directly relevant to the plot later down the line, and 25 of the 40 episodes are referential enough to something that happens in the future as to be satisfying to recognize as you listen. but i'm not giving you a list that long, so, we're gonna stick to some key highlights.
also we're sticking with season 1, because genuinely my list of "favorite" tma episodes is like 100 of the first 160. which i don't think is really helpful. also even with just season 1, i will admit i... might have gotten carried away.
11. Dreamer - literally stan my boy. "why? what's so special about antonio blake?" don't ask questions, just stan him. he's hot and mysterious and just wants to be helpful.
14. Piecemeal - sorry that this episode is funny and cool and amazing and interesting and i think about it all the time. like it's my fault.
15. Lost John's Cave - this is an iconic episode. genuinely, i don't know that i've spoken to anyone who's listened to tma that doesn't point to lost john's cave when discussing episodes that fucked them up a little. a lovely experience <3
17. The Boneturner's Tale - second special boy alert. you should look forward to this episode because i like jared and want people to pay attention to him. literally what more reason do you need.
18. The Man Upstairs - okay well i have a thing about meat. episodes that reference meat make me feel things that no other episode can. this is my dream apartment living situation btw.
19/20. Confession/Desecrated Host - "wow, vinnie, this is a lot of episodes basically all in a row" that's just how it is sometimes. this is what you get for asking me about episodes you should look forward to. ANYWAYS, Father Edwin Burroughs is so special to me, and i'm obsessed with religion in horror, and also i <3 parallels that are more obvious after you've listened to the show at least once.
22. Colony - teehee what if you were listening to a horror podcast, and i was listening to a horror podcast, and it hinted at having a plot 😳😳😳
26. Distortion - special girl and special... uh. i don't think he has a gender. but two special characters! and plot, literally what more could you ask for.
27. A Sturdy Lock - this episode rules, and i'm only sometimes paranoid about it when i close my door at night <3
28. Skintight - stan melanie and jon's fun hatemanship or else.
29. Cheating Death - i think everyone should love death whenever it deigns to take on an anthropomorphized form. we don't have to discuss why it's deigning to do so, here, or whether "deigning" is even the correct word choice at all. stan death.
32. Hive - hehehehehehehe
34. Anatomy Class - i own a shirt that references this episode. literally the anatomy class has done nothing wrong, ever, in their life. my fun goodtime episode full of laughs and love and found family. :)
36. Taken Ill - i love sickness and disease and death and dying and the mistreatment of the elderly. this episode makes me want to scream and cry and throw up if i think about it for too long btw. for standalone reasons, and for other reasons :)
39. Infestation - :)
40. Human Remains - :)
the fact that i'm highlighting 17 of 40 episodes as standout episodes does make me feel like a first year college student who just got their first set of highlighters, but doesn't actually understand how to find key points in a text while listening to a lecture, btw. but i am what i am. i can not change this <3

TMaG M5 & M6 Drivers
By ED TRAVIS
As TaylorMade Golf fights to regain the top spot in driver sales it’s sometimes overlooked that their drivers by a huge margin are the most played on the PGA TOUR. Last season they could point to players using them for 21 wins compared with 10 for Titleist and just four for Callaway.
That being said they still have a tough job in the marketplace catching Callaway and the M5 and M6 just announced may just have the innovative uniqueness to give the performance that made TMaG the dominant driver brand until two years ago.
The new drivers are interesting for a couple of reasons. They both make use of screws in the face, a feature not seen since the days of persimmon clubheads, which allow resin to be injected into the head for support of the face at impact. This means the face could be made 20% thinner for more rebound or COR and a 66% larger sweet spot compared with last year’s M3 and double the M1 from 2017.
Each head is individually tested to determine its Characteristic Time (CT) used by the USGA to measure face rebound compliance and then the exact amount of resin is injected through the face screws to achieve a CT in conformance with the Rules. Interesting and obviously it works since both the M5 and M6 are on the USGA list of conforming clubheads.
As we expected the Twist Face to help straighten out hooks and slices from last year was retained on all models. The M5 and M5 Tour use a T-shaped sliding weight track in the sole that was first used in the 2017 M1 which morphed into a Y-track of last year is now again a T-shape but larger. There are two 10-gram weights to slide front to back and side to side with TMaG saying there are 1,770 settings possible.
Pricing for the M5 and M5 Tour is $550 versus $500 last year for the M3 and the M6 and M6D models are $500 while the M4 (2018) was $430.
Brand & Model:
TaylorMade Golf M5, M5 Tour, M6 and M6 D Type drivers
Key Features:
Twist Face with Speed Injected resin
M5 T-Track - two 10-gram sliding sole weights
460cc head except for M5 Tour is 435cc
Carbon composite sole and crown areas enlarged 10%
Pricing & Availability:
M5 & M5 Tour $550 in shops Feb. 1
M6 & M6 D-Type $500 at retail Feb. 1
Need to Know:
TaylorMade is making use of new technology in its M5 and M6 drivers for the battle against Callaway with a precisely measured, for each clubhead, injection of resin to achieve the maximum CT for better ball speed. The Twist Face design, a proven aid to straighter tee shots, is thinner while the adjustable sole weights in the M5 models give more help to recreational golfers to limit excessive side spin and produce better launch trajectory. Composite carbon panels in the crown and sole are larger saving weight that was moved to the sole for added forgiveness. The sole slot behind the clubface called Hammerhead 2.0 is bigger and all models have a loft adjustable hosel.

Another PGA Show in the Books
By ED TRAVIS
After covering the PGA Merchandise Show for more than 20 years the variety of products still amazes me and particularly the new items from the latest in tech gadgets to ways to more efficiently attach things to your golf bag.
The 64th industry-only Show concluded last Friday its three day run in the Orange County Convention Center located in suburban Orlando. As always it was preceded by the Demo Day to beat all demo days for PGA Professionals and the media at the Orange County National Golf Center’s immense range.
For the week the event that grabbed the most attention was the announcement by TaylorMade-adidas Golf CEO David Abeles just after Show doors opened the first day of the signing of Tiger Woods to an endorsement contract. It created a buzz overshadowing a later announcement by Callaway Golf that Michelle Wie had become a part of their staff.
Reed Expositions, who run the Show, have not released attendance yet but many old timers felt the numbers may have been down from the last couple of years. However, with 1 million square feet of exhibit space and 10 miles of aisles not counting the dozens of off floor meeting rooms, it’s hard to tell. What is for sure is the number of exhibitors remained approximately the same as the past three years—around 1,000—with 271 first time exhibitors. Reed said the number of PGA Professional in attendance increased three percent to more than 7,500.
This is the largest meeting of the golf industry or as they say, the “Major of the Golf Business” and this is certainly true though some well-known companies were absent, in a couple of cases conspicuously absent. Nike Golf of course was not exhibiting clubs since they have closed their club and ball business to concentrate on golf apparel but Nike apparel was a no show as well. Ben Hogan Golf, after an effort to reinvigorate the iconic brand was not present and this week declared bankruptcy.
Less surprising was the absence of PXG owned by Bob Parsons who has said publicly the buyers and PGA Professionals coming to Orlando are not the target market for his ultra-expensive clubs with a set listing at over $5,000. Also among the missing were Mizuno Golf, Bridgestone, True Temper and Aldila.
Among the major items attracting attention were drivers from Wilson Golf (Triton), Callaway (Great Big Bertha Epic), TaylorMade (M1 and M2), Cobra (King F7 and F7+) and Titleist (917 D2 and D3). New golf balls included the Callaway Chrome Soft X, TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x, Volvik S4 White, Srixon Z-Star/Z-Star XV and Titleist’s latest Pro V1 and Pro V1x.
There were 423 companies in the apparel category, a number that continues to grow along with the size of their displays. Services plus accessories seem to be about the same, perhaps with slight growth, which means the club company portion of the Show is declining since the total number of exhibitors remains the same. However, the club category includes companies from the largest multi-line manufacturers to grip, shaft and ferrule makers and one-of putter producers.
Besides the Woods/TMaG announcement often heard discussed on the floor, in the media center and after hours was the non-sale of TMaG which has been on the block since last May. Parent adidas hasn’t said a word and no buyers have been forthcoming though a rumor that Woods and Michael Jordan were interested was thoroughly discredited. With business a little better and a Tiger in the stable might adidas consider keeping the top metal wood maker?
Another oft heard comment there has been no superhot-must-have product introduced and there are a couple of reasons why. Club companies all use top flight technology already so the spread in club performance has narrowed plus restrictions on allowable performance by the USGA has definitely put a damper on innovation. But probably the biggest reason, and golf club designers have known this for some time, products were reaching both the USGA limits and limits imposed by the laws of physics. Change therefore is more incremental rather than a “breakthrough.”
Individual golfers still will gain the most benefit and better performance for them by using custom fitted clubs.
In the golf business orders are often written before the Show so the purchase cycle is not as dependent on face to face meetings as once was the case with possibly the exception of soft goods. The focus of the Show has changed to placing a major emphasis on the continuing education courses for PGA Professionals.
For most attendees though it is a worldwide and industrywide meet-and-greet with a sprinkling of deal making. Costs of attending are high, booth space is expensive and even large companies must figure how to get the most return from the expense. This is not a negative but something that needs to be continually acknowledged and improved by the PGA and Reed Expositions.
