Wait, why is an integrated-light pump like the TL-racker better than a normal WML with a pressure pad? I like the concept but I have to wonder if it's a gimmick.
Momentary is a big deal, and having a pressure pad on a moving slide and a stationary light will eventually kill the switch. So you'd have to mount the light to the slide, which you can do, but the integrated lights are a lot cleaner than that kind of set up.

You have one of those TL-Rackers right? Does that use the old tube nut? Or does it come with a special for the light?
Yeah I have one. It uses the old tube nut. Also I had to get a tube/nut for it because my 500 was made without the action-slide tube. They just molded the action bars right into the plastic handle.

Mossberg 500 style side saddles often attach to the side of the receiver with an extended extractor screw but I've heard under recoil that screw can sometimes break.
Velcro is pretty popular these days. Just wipe down the outside of your receiver with some lighter fluid to clean off any gunk then use some 10lb industrial strength velcro. Cut it to size and include holes for the trigger pin and the shell elevator then you can use Esstac shot cards like easily exchangeable side saddles.
As for a light the Streamlight TL-Racker is pretty nifty if your shotgun has an action slide tube. Some of the cheaper 500s and I'm sure some 88 variants just have the action bars molded into the plastic which means you'll have to spend a bunch of money on the toob and an end nut. When all is said and done you're looking at like $250 to put a light on your gun.
On the other hand another option is a section of pic rail that clamps between the barrel and mag tube.
Factory stock on my Maverick 88 comes right off rather than the bolt being jackhammered in there and the Raptor grip is on the way.
Not sure if it has a sling stud on it so I might have to jury-rig something.
So just need a side-mount shell caddy and a light mounted and I should be CQB as fuck.

Many modern AK's still need you to buy those aftermarket, and even on older Mossberg guns, the optic rail is $30 for a nice one. AK kit that allows mounting lights and optics is much more expensive.
The point I'm making is this:
The AK is a decent fighting rifle.
But the AR is in fact objectively better.
You can get an AK close, but it'll cost a lot more.
That's fine though, because you'll probably never use it for real combat. So get what you like, get as good as you can with it, because the person you're most likely to face is someone who's level of training might be shooting at trash from the hip.
It's perfectly fine to choose a slightly worse gun because you like the way it looks or have a preference for it's operating system, but don't fool yourself into thinking it's better.
I make some similar choices with my shotguns- the objectively most effective way to set up a pump action shotgun is with a red dot, TL racker/DSF, synthetic stock and no bayonet. And if you want to get down to it- the most effective shotgun is a semi automatic like the 940 or 1301. Not a 590.
I get pump guns, put wood furniture, GG&G lights mounts, ghost rings, and a bayonet lug on all mine. Because I think it's cool. But it is objectively worse. But given what I use them for? Not enough to matter.
I'd recommend an RS Regulate BM-1 mount or the light mount that Khyber Customs sells for the light. For the optic, I'd recommend Master Mount or RS Regulate side rails.
Cool!
Do you know how to mount a light and optic on an AR?
...

.....
You put it on the rail and tighten the thumbscrews.

"I have zero intention of using my shotgun for home defense"
I say to myself for the 57th time as I walk out of the gun store with a TL-Racker.

I'm a little conflicted. It looks fairly easy to disable the auto-reset on that coach gun safety and it SHOULD unlock by pushing the release lever to the left which means I either need to push it harder and/or maybe sand something down slightly to fix whatever is keeping it from doing that. I can probably even talk the gun store down to $500 flat which is pretty cheap for a new gun.
But I kinda don't want to buy it. I want a new gun. I want to have easy access to a coach gun for my Doom targets, and just for funzies in general. Still this gun seems pretty shitty. The fit is kinda weird. The finish looks splotchy. It's made in Brazil. And even if it was a good gun I have very limited storage space for my guns. Getting a new safe isn't feasible for me at this time so I need to make sure whatever new stuff I get has a practical role to it. If I'm getting a new shotgun it should be an improvement over my 500.
I dunno, if I could get a 1301 for trade in on my M500 and less than a thousand bucks that might be worth getting. My Mossberg has a TL-Racker, an 18.5" defense barrel, and a 26ish" ported hunting barrel. But that's also my first new gun so there's sentimental attachment here.

Finally got a range trip in today. It wasn't all I was hoping for but it was probably all I needed. Met a new guy today. He's got decent gear. Nothing high end, but not cheap Chinese knockoff crap either. He also got every dumb reference I threw out there. STALKER, Always Sunny, Splinter Cell. Really cool guy.
I finally got around to trying out the new foreend and shot cards for my shotgun.
I've already messed around with the light on my TL-Racker but I was curious if I would have a problem accidentally hitting the buttons while racking the pump. Fortunately it didn't happen at all. I'm really pleased with how well it worked.
The shot cards held up pretty well. I had one card loaded with buckshot sitting on the shotgun itself. The shells got pushed around a lot while it was in the case but everything was still well retained. I ran a few reload drills with the shotgun. I went through one full card just for throwing a shell in the chamber and firing. I was getting between 3.5 and 4.5 seconds. The tight retention of the elastic made it a pain in the ass to pull shells free, but I realize if it was too lose it wouldn't hold the shells very well.
I also spent a couple cards doing full reloads. For 6 shots it took nearly 20 seconds and I lost about 5 seconds on the second drill because I dropped a shell and had to chase after it.
I didn't get around to any transition or straight pistol drills today. Looking through my notebook the last time I did any timed drills was last August and the last time I did more than half a dozen drills in a single session was a year ago. I need to work on that more.

I was feeling kinda dumb spending $50 for a new AR stock adapter for my shotgun and a new grip for it. I got to thinking I might have been better off getting the Magpul shotgun stock, but it's like $120 for the stock and I have to buy a QD sling socket to install on the stock as opposed to getting the new adapter to fix what got broken when I put the TL-Racker on. I might as well stick with what I have. Besides, the Magpul stock doesn't look like it has a very good recoil pad and the limbsaver on my current stock is really good.

Aaaaaaaand I just remembered that problem for future RB to deal with still hasn't been dealt with. I grabbed my spare pump handle out of storage a week ago so I could see about getting a TL-Racker. It's been sitting in the back of my truck getting rained on this whole time.

It doesn't sound too crazy. Just a lot of little things I need to remember.
I gotta tape off the velcro patch because I don't feel like ripping off a 15lb velcro loop panel and replacing it again. It sucked last time I did it lol. I need to disassemble it enough that I can get the pump handle off since I don't want to paint the TL-Racker. I need to ziptie some plastic over the optic and tape off the mounting screw. I need to make sure to tape off the seam where the barrel and tube meet the receiver. For a pattern I was thinking of starting with a green base then covering it with some ferns and spraying on splotches of brown and black.
I pulled out my shotgun for the first time in almost 6 months and it's absolutely covered in rust. The good news is that it's just a dusting of surface rust with no pitting. I gave it a good scrub down with a plastic scouring pad and some ballistol. Eventually I need to tear the whole thing apart and either get the barrel & mag tube cerakoted or rattle can them. I kinda want to rattle can just because this is kind of a beater shotgun and I've never painted a gun before but on the other hand I'm always worried I'll mess it up really bad.
