Pet peeve: when people making reaction videos refer to Dazai's suicidal tendencies with the word "seppuku." which is absolutely not what seppuku is. Now, tetchou swearing to split his gut if he breaks his word about Lucy and the ADA? That's seppuku. It's a very specific thing that happens a very specific way for a specific reason, and while it is related and they do share overlap in result, they are very much not words that can be used interchangeably.

#tw death #Tw mentions of suicide #Tw suicide #Just in case #seppuku is glorified honorable death #And to just give a general no- it can only be committed by samurai #So while I mention that what tetchou promised to do is essentially commit seppuku- it's just a reference to it and even then wouldn't be #Considered that- it's just there for the weight and history behind the act but wouldn't actually count as that #Its specifically only committed when the person has done a great dishonor and it's a way of still dying honorably despite that #And it's fucking twisted #the act of seppuku is taking a sword and slicing through your gut so your organs kind fall out #And the idea was that it would be overseen and you weren't supposed to make a sound when you did it #If you did they would decapitate you before you died because you didn't deserve an honorable death from seppuku #Essentially your soul or consciousness should have already left your body and you wouldn't feel pain if you actually deserved to die hon-#Honorably #(Though there were still some that committed it in secret I'm sure)#THIS is what Tetchou is referring to - though likely not as ritualistically #It has a background and implies breaking his word(and failing to uphold justice) would be such a dishonor and shame #That this would be the only way to make up for it and such which speaks mountains for his character and how dedicated he is #This is NOT AT ALL what Dazai is doing #And it pisses me the fuck off
