i was looking for a quote from Nasu about the Mahoyo movie, but while i haven't found that yet, i think this Takeuchi quote is pretty interesting

Mahou Tsukai no Yoru is taking priority over Tsukihime, so it's progressing at a steady pace.

imagine if Mahoyo part 2 gets announced before the second half of the Tsukihime remake

honestly a big part of it is the surrounding ephemera, since it's not just the anime itself being bad, but the anime's existence actively damaging the continuation of tsukihime

it's an infamous story at this point, but the tsukihime remake took so long to drop because the contract for the anime entailed the production company (then Geneon Entertainment) getting a cut out of all tsukihime related products. it was such an underhanded deal that it led to TM lawyering up in the future and very likely led to tsukihime 2 being axed

the flipside of this is that it also led to the anime choking any other attempts at adaptation until very recently, so it really was just a mediocre anime and the vague promise that a remake would come for a long time (which ended up taking 13 years after the announcement)

so it wasn't just that it was bad, but that it basically killed the franchise until it pulled off its modern revival

Is Lunar Legend Tsukihime any good?

it's so bad that most people don't even begrudgingly acknowledge its existence. it feels like a fan project with one guy who's actually really good at soundtracks and a bunch of thinly connected fanfics serving as the basis of the plot

the manga is alright, if very strange. I wouldn't recommend it as anything other than a curiosity after reading through the original vn
