Tree House Kisses, Chapter 38 (Adorney) - Scorpio and Veronica

Chapter Summary: The girls spend a summer apart, but then start their senior year, closer than ever.

Chapter 38: Feelings

Courtney’s dad had moved with his girlfriend to Berkeley earlier in the year, and both of her parents unilaterally decided that she should spend the summer with him for some “quality time.” She’d argued, she’d protested, she’d pleaded with Karen, she’d even cried; but in the end she had no choice but to go along with the plan, sullenly packing her things and boarding the train, defeated. Her only solace was that Roy was doing a summer program in Stanford for a month, which meant that at least they could still see each other on the weekends for part of the time she was there.

COURTNEY: JFC I’m gonna be sleeping on a goddamn fold out couch all summer. This is shit.

ADORE: Awww, so sorry, princess. Xx

COURTNEY: Lol, fuck you. You have no idea what this is like

ADORE: That’s true. I haven’t seen my dad for like ten years

The truth was, Courtney hadn’t really spent much time with her dad since the divorce. Sometimes it made her sad, thinking about how close they used to be. She tried to keep an open mind, but a big part of her was still angry about him having an affair, turning their lives upside-down, leaving her mom...leaving her.

Adore was right, though. As far as absentee fathers went, things could be much worse. One night, while he sat on the sofa (the one that doubled as the least comfortable bed she ever had) watching TV, Courtney wandered over and sat down next to him.

He looked up from the TV, surprised, a smile spreading across his face.

“Hey, kiddo.”

“Hi.” Courtney shifted slightly, tried to shake the horrible feeling that she was sitting next to a grown man that she barely knew. “Whatcha watching?”

“Just the news...if things go well this year, we can take both the house and the senate,” Peter told her. “And in 2008, that fucking shit-for-brains will finally be done and we can get the White House, too.”

“That would be awesome,” Courtney agreed, letting her head rest on her father’s shoulder. He wasn’t perfect, that was for damn sure...but when it came down to it, she supposed she was lucky to have him.

Meanwhile, Adore had gotten a summer job as a counselor at an arts day camp, and soon began spending her days surrounded by loud, attention-seeking child star wannabes. Every day, she came home and collapsed in exhaustion, vowing to never, under any circumstances, ever have children.

COURTNEY: How’s camp?

ADORE: The worst

COURTNEY: I’m sorry

ADORE: It’s all good. How’s the homewrecker?

COURTNEY: Weird

ADORE: Is she teaching you any good stripper moves?

COURTNEY: No, she just like, chain smokes and talks to her birds

ADORE: She has BIRDS?

COURTNEY: Yeah man, I told you. WEIRD

ADORE: What are the birds’ names?

COURTNEY: Something in Russian, I dunno. I just call them Boris and Natasha

ADORE: Lol you’re so corny

COURTNEY: I did meet some pretty cool anarchist guys down the block

Once Courtney got over her initial resistance, she had to admit that Berkely was somewhat cool. Certainly more her speed than the bland suburban wasteland she was used to. She spent most of her days wandering around used book stores, head shops, or combing through racks of cute vintage dresses. One afternoon, sunbathing in the backyard of her dad’s apartment building (which was a converted Victorian house that she also had to regretfully admit was pretty charming), she made friends with a very affectionate marmalade-colored kitten. Turned out, the cat belonged to their downstairs neighbor, and soon Courtney found herself fully enchanted with the older woman.

COURTNEY: Okay I found a much better new friend than the PW boys. She’s our downstairs neighbor and she’s like 70 and so cool. She has pink hair and all her clothes are made of hemp. She’s gonna take me to an Iraq War protest on Saturday.

ADORE: Oh jeez. You’re gonna come back with white person dreads, aren’t you?

COURTNEY: lol it’s a nice look

ADORE: IT IS NOT

ADORE: Well, we started in Violet’s basement, drinking, and I’m not sure how but somehow it ended up being like 10 people

COURTNEY: Aww, was Violet sad I wasn’t there? Did she cry?

ADORE: lol, totally

COURTNEY: So what happened???

ADORE: Yeah, so...I went out to the backyard to smoke and Trin came and like...I’m not sure exactly how it happened, but I think I made out with her

COURTNEY: WHOA

ADORE: Yeah

COURTNEY: Is she gay???

ADORE: No, definitely not. We were just like, drunk and high

COURTNEY: Is everything cool between you??

ADORE: Yeah, I think so. We were laughing about it this morning. But like, I still feel a little bad.

COURTNEY: Why do you feel bad?

As much as Courtney tried, and as much as she made her peace with her summer surroundings, by the time August rolled around, she began to get increasingly homesick. Missing her mom, her bedroom, even Grandma Muriel. But especially, missing Adore.

COURTNEY: I really miss you

COURTNEY: Like so much

ADORE: Me too

COURTNEY: No like SO much

ADORE: Are you high?

COURTNEY: No, are you?

ADORE: A little lol

COURTNEY: I’m not high. I just love you.

ADORE: Aww, thanks babe

“DORY!!” Courtney squealed, practically leaping from her car the second she pulled into the driveway. She’d texted Adore from her last stop for gas, but she was thrilled to see her best friend actually waiting for her.

She wrapped Adore into a tight hug, her excitement causing her to pepper Adore’s entire face with wet kisses.

“Hi, okay, stop it,” Adore giggled. “Nice car, by the way.”

“Oh yeah, I know, it’s pretty great. Peter gets a gold star for that one.” Courtney glanced back at the car, her dad’s old Honda Accord, shaking her new bangs out of her face. He’d surprised her with the keys just last week, and it had almost made her forgive him for leaving in the first place...almost. “It was kind of scary to do that whole drive alone, though. I’m very thankful to have made it in one piece.”

“Me too,” Adore said, with a grin that told Courtney she was home. “Now that you’re back, it’s gonna be a fuckin’ party.”

Courtney laid a head on her shoulder, sighing happily.

“You’re going to Darienne’s goodbye party on Wednesday, right?”

“Yeah, of course. Omigod! Dory! I wanted to make those peanut butter cupcakes that she loves, but you know I’m just absolute shit at decorating, can you help?”

“What on earth makes you think I’d be good at cupcake decorating?” Adore laughed.

“I dunno, you’re better at art than me,” Courtney said. “Plus, it’ll just be more fun with you.”

Adore pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Count me in.”

School was going to be starting back up soon, and as Adore looked around the party at her friends, she couldn’t help but feel a little ambivalent. Summer had just been so nice, and having that small taste of freedom made her long to be done with school altogether.

Tonight, there was a big group at Pearl’s house--her usual friends as well as a bunch of the neighborhood kids, enjoying the pool and the warm evening air. Violet, Fame and Trinity lounged in the hot tub with April, watching the sun set. Pearl was standing at the grill, living her butch fantasy as she cooked up food for her guests, swatting Bob away with as he peered over her shoulder, trying to “help.”

It was a little bittersweet--Darienne had already left for Pepperdine a few weeks earlier, and Jamin for Cal Poly. Even though they weren’t as close as they used to be, it still felt strange, somehow, for them to be missing. Hell, it was even weird for Alyssa to be gone, the loudmouth head cheerleader now torturing people at UC San Diego, probably already sorority president.

A handful of people were dancing, including Courtney and Willam, twirling until they were dizzy and laughing.

“Ugh, I don’t want school to start!” Willam suddenly whined, reflecting Adore’s feelings exactly.

“I know, but this year we’re coming back as seniors, and we’re gonna rule the school,” Courtney said, imitating the line from Grease perfectly.

“Oh really? You think you’re Rizzo?” Adore challenged her.

“Why can’t I be Rizzo?” she demanded.

“Bitch, you are Sandy and you know it,” Adore laughed, grabbing a beer and sitting down on the back steps.

“I can be Rizzo if I want! Fuck you!”

“Yeah, lesbian! How dare you put cheerleader in a box! She can be whatever she wants!” Willam cried.

“That's right,” Courtney added, “I mean, I did spend all summer hanging out with a prostitute. What did you do? Day Camp?”

“I was a counselor,” Adore replied, laughing. She reached into the cooler and pulled out a bottle. “Here, have another drink. And I thought Katya was a stripper, not a prostitute.”

“You don't know her. It's a very blurry line,” Courtney explained, taking the offered wine cooler.

Willam grabbed Courtney’s hand and pulled her away, spinning her around and around. “Less talking, more dancing!”

Adore shook her head, watching them with a smile, lighting up a joint. Roy sat down beside her--the last of his class, since UCLA didn’t start for a few more weeks.

“Hey, Delano. How ya doing, man?”

“Good...bro.”

Roy flashed some dimples at her, then just sat for a minute, unusually quiet, as they both watched their friends dancing like fools. Willam dipped Courtney low to the ground and she shrieked and giggled.

“God, she’s so fucking beautiful,” he said.

Adore wasn’t sure if he was talking to her or himself. She nodded, leaning against the banister and sighing slightly.

When Roy spoke again, it was quiet. “I know, you know. How lucky I am.”

Adore looked at him, considering her reply. Finally, she just nodded and said, “Good.”

Roy gave her another smile.

“Make sure she stays outta trouble while I’m away.”

“I think I’m probably the least qualified person for that job,” Adore laughed, then held out the joint.

“Thanks, I’m cool.”

“Debatable,” Adore retorted, taking another hit.

Roy shook his head, chuckling.

“I’m gonna miss you too, Delano.”

“Aww...shut up.”

On the first day of their senior year, Courtney and Adore walked out of their fourth period economics class together, giggling over Laganja’s unfortunate new haircut.

“I feel bad for saying so, but it’s just so...”

“Hideous?” Adore supplied, and Courtney giggled some more.

“Yeah. Poor thing. Although it’s hard to say whether her hair is more or less tragic than Mr. Sutton’s awkwardness. He’s like a baby deer.”

“I know! But like, imagine trying to get the respect of students who are pretty much your age,” Adore laughed.

“How old do you think he is, anyway?”

“Uh, I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure he graduated with Kim and Angie. I think I remember him from when Angie did show choir.”

Courtney grabbed onto Adore’s arm, eyes wide.

“Omigod, you’re right! I knew he looked familiar!” she exclaimed.

It wasn’t until they were halfway down the hill that Adore noticed Courtney still walking with her. She hadn’t split off to go sit with the neighborhood kids like past years, simply walked beside her towards the oak tree, where Trinity and Willam already sat, sword-fighting with breadsticks.

“Are you...planning to join us?” Adore asked curiously, and Courtney bit her lip.

“Is that okay? I mean...it’s just a little weird without Roy and Darienne, so I thought…you can say no if-”

“Of course it’s okay!” Adore pulled her in for a side hug. “Everyone loves you, you know that.”

“Everyone?” Courtney asked, one eyebrow nearly to her hairline.

“Almost everyone.” Adore smiled ruefully. “And anyway, I want you here, so she can just deal with it.”

As it turned out, Adore was right. Everyone welcomed Courtney enthusiastically with open arms. And even Violet was unusually cool about it, containing her disapproval to some muttered asides to Fame, who promptly thumped her on the shoulder every time, akin to bopping a puppy on the nose with a newspaper.

Courtney didn’t seem to mind either way, cheerfully trading barbs with Willam and letting Fame “fix” her eyebrows, which were deemed “just too pale.”

“Are your pubes blonde, too?” Willam asked curiously, and Trinity began choking on her sandwich from laughter.

“Gross,” Courtney said, wrinkling her nose.  

“Actually, are they? I’m kind of curious,” Trinity said.

“Come on, cheerleader, just tell us!” Willam urged.

“You know, I quit cheerleading almost a year ago,” Courtney said.

“So?”

“He still calls me ‘New Girl,’” Pearl explained.

“Why are you stalling? Show! Me! Your! Pussy! Hairs!” Willam said, and Fame put her whole head in her hands, letting out a horrified groan before going back to Courtney’s eyebrows.  

“Careful, Bill, or you might get what you wish for,” Courtney sang, staring him down. “You really wanna see my pussy?”

“Uhh...no. Well, maybe...but no. Or…” Willam’s brow furrowed.

“Shit, you broke his little gay brain,” Pearl said, laughing.

“Omigod, that’s so much better!” Fame sat back on her heels, holding up a compact so that Courtney could see her new defined eyebrows.

“Oh wow, that is better! Thank you!”

After snapping the compact shut and handing it back to Fame, Courtney caught Adore’s eye, both of their faces melting into a grin. As Adore buried her smile into her sandwich, she couldn’t help but think about what a change it was from last year.

Maybe a sign of good things to come...or maybe the calm before the storm.

SCD 2020 - Week 3: Movie Week Thoughts

I should have a witty line prepared before the keep reading line but I’m not that well prepared so...

Nicola and Katya - UH EXCUSE ME 19 WTF WAS THAT all my votes went to them cos of that stupid score 😂. They’re joint favourite with Bill for me so I usually give 2 to Nicola and 1 to Bill but after that all 3 went to Nicola I’m sorry I did not see a lot wrong with that 😂. All I thought were performance aspects, she seemed to lack energy in some places compared to Katya and looked as if she was concentrating a couple of places, but she had some really nice sharp dynamics, great timing and that 50s air about her she was so cool 😍. Although was I denied her in a Danny Zuko leather jacket maybe...

Maisie and Gorka - Wow that wig was a lot anyway it was good!! Mostly in her upper body she had really nice extensions and used dynamics well to create that softer elegant fluidity. I don’t think it was perfect, some bits didn’t look as smooth as they could have been to me, but overall it was definitely really good 😂. Random but Tess saying she loved Frozen since she was a little girl we were 12 and I mean personally at 12 I was in my grown out of Disney for that few years before you find it cool again phase (although me and my friends did watch Frozen in the cinema on a sleepover we dropped popcorn all over the floor we were wild) probably not the case of Maisie but she can’t have been that little 😂.

Caroline and Johannes - Aww I felt kind of bad for her she embraced the theatre aspect so much but it is still too placed and gentle 😭. She has no power in her moves, so while she gets all the steps right she needs to put in some dynamics and energy to, for this dance, give a powerful dramatic theatre-like performance.

Jason and Luba - Oh honey no 😭. My mum was screaming saying how brilliant this was just because it was Star Wars sometimes I feel like such a dance snob next to her 😂. Similar to Caroline’s Paso last week there was just no power behind his moves, he said it in his face (most of the time) but not in his body. And to add on to that his limbs were super stuff, and he had some timing and balance issues. Idk if the music was just too slow to make the routine work? Maybe if he were moving faster he would end up with cleaner footwork on some moves. Anyway not his best idek if we’re gonna see more of him oof.

JJ and Amy - YAY BALLROOM JJ IS BACK sorry I love his ballroom and this was so sweet 😂. His footwork made the whole routine feel so elegant and sweet, and his overall frame is still pretty solid. I think for ballroom he needs to start playing around with what sort of dynamics he can do in his upper body, have a swizzle around of his neck and see how he can move it as atm some of his turns look a little stiff, so hopefully if he does another ballroom he’ll get a chance to test the waters and see what he can do cos idk what else to fault 😂.

HRVY and Janette - K idk the thing with basic triple cha moves but it didn’t bother me 😂. It was overall pretty good!! He had nice footwork, good dynamics and really felt the rhythm of the music. Carrying on from his jive though he still needs to improve his upper body, his arms could be extended more to create nicer lines, and when he opens he needs to push his chest out more so that doesn’t look as lazy. But that’s it I thought it was really good 😂.

Ranvir and Giovanni - OH YES GO ON RANVIR YOU OWN THAT LEADERBOARD this was amazing I’m sorry 😂. Actually no I’m not sorry THAT WAS AMAZING 😂. Everything was perfect to me, she had excellent frame, beautiful extensions, great fluidity, bang on timing, smooth transitions, THIS WAS AMAZING I know I keep saying that but holy shit that was iconic I said it.

Jamie and Karen - Wow that was... okay 😂. He’s definitely improved but I don’t think I’d go as far as the praise he was getting from the judges. It still all feels a bit stiff to me, and while he was definitely getting the whole greek god motif correct sometimes there could have been a bit more flow to me? I think his posture and arms could have looked nicer, but that is pretty much it. He had nice swivel, some nice dynamics (not all the time) and he definitely had the energy for it 😂. Definitely his best dance but idk about ALL the praise 😂.

Clara and Aljaz - Complaining about a disco tango Shirley what do you expect from Lady fucking Marmalade 😂. I thought it was really good!! Her shoulders have come down from last week thank fuck her frame was great! Her tango hand could have been a bit cleaner but I’ll take what I can get 😂. Her timing and footwork was good, she had such a sharpness to her moves and really nice fluidity, it was great 😂.

Max and Dianne - OH HERE WE GO OKAY who green lighted this idea anyway it was okay 😂. I think maybe the hype of what the dance actually was may have overshadowed his actual dancing... IT WAS GOOD he put a lot into it and definitely got into the character and vibe of the dance but it still all looked a bit messy to me. He still needs more energy and dynamics to make all his movements look cleaner, but everything else was pretty good. And he did the floppy fish so... gotta give him that 😂.

Bill and Oti - OKAY WHAT DID I SAY COMEDIANS ARE AMAZING AT PASOS AND AM I WRONG AM I WRONG 😂. Okay, the good: amazing stance and posture, brilliant dynamics, timing all correct and kept up with the energy and vibe of the dance. Oh and guitar solo. The bad: Hands still need work, and a couple of timing and balance issues. The ugly... idk that eyeliner was a bit funny 😂.

GOOD WEEK I think everyone has made improvements in some way and they’re all up to a really good standard 😂.

Close call; I’m very fond of “Avengers Assemble”, “Thor” and “CA:TWS”, but the one that has wowed me the most of all was “Black Panther”, which took everything to a new level of brilliance.

Drax: what character would you wanna be friends with?

I’m going to make this “characterS” and say Jane Foster, Aunt May, and General Okoye.  A lot of my other faves probably wouldn’t be so easy to be friends with (too prickly, messed-up, hyper-focussed, downright dangerous, etc) but I would love to be mates with these three!

Sam Wilson: funniest scene?

Unlike a lot of people I loathed the relentless humour in “Ragnarok”.  So I’m going to say, Sam and Cap’s first meeting in TWS, which is gentle and kind, and character-driven. 

And (although it’s rather sick humour) “He’s adopted” is very funny.

Bucky Barnes: most heartbreaking moment?

The bit in TWS when the pilots try to take off and provide air support and are shot down before they can get to their planes.  Reduces me to tears every time.

Nakia: character you wish had a bigger role?

I want to see more of Shuri!

Rocket Racoon: best nickname?

I don’t think I know the scripts well enough!  “Legolas”, possibly?

Natasha Romanoff: favorite ass kicking scene?

Another one that’s very hard to choose. 

Natasha’s first scene, maybe, when she’s barefoot and unarmed and still beats the shit out of half a dozen brawny guys.  It’s such a great use of an action scene to establish character.  I also love her fight with possessed!Hawkeye. 

But on the other hand, the Dora Milje’s team fighting style is unbelievably awesome...

Ned Leeds: favorite villain?

Killmonger, no contest.  He’s rounded, believable, well-motivated, and even though you know he’s wrong you empathise with him.  Masterclass in how to write a top-notch antagonist.

I also really liked Toomes/Vulture in “Spiderman Homecoming”.  Again, because he had good motivation and was an interesting rounded character, not a cardboard “I wanna rule/destroy the world >snarl snarl

Bruce Banner: guardians or avengers?

For sheer fun, Guardians.  But I’m enjoying seeing them all meet up!

Thor Odinson: most attractive character?

Still Hawkeye.  Give me those Renner arms.

Gamora: favorite pairing?

As in Ship?  T’Challa/Nakia, and Gamora/Peter Q.

As in Best mates?  Rocket & Groot, Peggy & Jarvis, and Peter P & Ned.

Mantis: what do you think will happen in Avengers 4?

I’m with @hanorganaas on this; it’ll have to involve time travel in some form, to bring back at least some of those lost.  Also I have it on good authority from @spectralarchers that Hawkeye will come back as Ronin.  And clearly a certain Carol Danvers is going to be involved.

There’ll be an opening section where the traumatised survivors are trying to regroup in a shattered world.  Somehow or other the script will have to contrive another “lowest ebb” moment even lower than the end of “Infinity War” (& I don’t envy the people tasked with that!) because that’s how script dynamics work.  But ultimately the big purple knob-head will be defeated.

Shuri: most rewatched movie?

Either “Avengers assemble” or “Guardians of the Galaxy”; I haven’t kept count, but they are the ones I go back to for a happy evening slobbed out in front of the telly with a big bag of tortilla chips.

Peter Parker: best outfit/suit?

As a Superhero Suit, I love the Ant-man suit! 

As actual wearable clothes, I’d like to have Gamora’s leathers, especially the red coat; practical and sexy.

Happy Hogan: what ‘superpower’ is the coolest?

Well, I’ve always wanted to be able to fly, so any of the superpowers that give you that would be great! 

I also love the way Mantis’ abilities take something that culturally is just expected of “nice good girls” (being empathetic, reading others emotions and reactions, being able to soothe down even the most aggressive person) and make it a fucking superpower!

Aunt may: most painful death?

After those brave pilots in TWS?  Pietro.  Really didn’t see that one coming.

Properly done, then hell yeah!  But it would need a very, very good script to juggle the emotional/tonal switchbacks required.

From what we get to see as fans?  I’d have to go with Chris Evans.

Karen Gillan certainly doesn’t sound much like Nebula!

T’challa: favorite non-romantic pairing?

I’ve already suggested a couple of Best-mates relationships; so how about some siblings?  Gamora and Nebula; so much tension, so much anger and yet so much torn, blood-soaked loyalty.  It’s just as interesting a dynamic as the one between Thor and Loki, with a lot less screentime than that has had. 

I also liked the sibling loyalty and love between Wanda and Pietro.  Always good to see a happy sibling relationship, when Screenwriting 101 would have it that only sibling rivalry is interesting...

Peter Quill: favorite place in the mcu?

That’s going to be a tie between Know-where, for the visuals, and Wakanda, for - well, everything really.

Loki laufeyson: best line/quote?

Ugh, there have been a lot of great lines.  Right now, I’m going to go with Okoye’s “For Wakanda?  Without question.”  Such a fantastic use of a single line to cement how her character is the embodiment of honour. 

Scott Lang: do you think you’d have died in the snap?

Hmm.  I kind of hope I would, to be honest; life afterwards is going to be spectacularly hellish until they manage to fix it.

Stephen strange: favorite song used?

The opening of “Guardians of the Galaxy”, with Quill slogging through the rain and then putting on “Come and get your love” on his walkman and starting to dance.  Just gorgeous; as a sequence, as framing, as a way of telling us something about him very economically, as a device to show us this is going to be a hell of a fun ride...

Phil Coulson: the moment you fell in love with your favorite character?

Seeing as I find it impossibly difficult to pick a favourite in the first place, this is one I can’t answer! 

Okoye: which movies did you see in cinema?

All of them bar the first two “Iron Man” films.

Maria Hill: favorite special credits?

What, as in “Mr Evans’ marmalade sandwiches made by” kind of thing?  I’m not sure I pay enough attention to the credits to have ever noticed one (I made that one up, needless to say). 

Or are “special credits” like cameos?  A nod to the mourners for Yondu, then.

Erik Killmonger: favorite press moment/interview

Way back during the press tour for “Avengers assemble”; a journalist asked RDJ in-depth questions on Tony’s motivation and development, and then only asked Scarlett Johansson some ridiculous thing about her diet; and instead of answering with a patient smile she called him out on it. 

It was only, what, five years ago, yet it was almost unheard-of then for a female actor to bite back publically like that.  And the good thing is, that already seems pretty extraordinary. 

Wanda Maximoff: favorite relationship of the actors?

I don’t know enough about their relationships to have one, really.

Nebula: favorite minor character?

Luis.  An “ordinary person” character who is highly likeable in his own right and who does the right thing even when he knows it’s bloody dangerous & could get him killed.  For similar reasons I’m also very fond of Cameron Klein and Dr Helen Cho.  

Vision: Steve with or without a beard?

Without, definitely.  Not a great fan of beards to be honest.  There’s the odd face that looks great with one (thinking of a certain Mexican actor and rare fern collector) but mostly they’re just fashionable face-fur. 

Nick Fury: what actor would you like to see join the mcu and for what role?

On one level, I’m content to wait and see what they come up with.  I’m not a comic-reader, so I know almost nothing about any of the characters until they appear in the MCU, which makes dream-casting any of them pretty difficult.

On the other hand, I did read a rumour that John Boyega is in line for a future role; and as I’m a huge fan of his I would love for that to be true!

Hope Van Dyne: expectations for ‘Captain Marvel’?

As a non-comics person, I don’t know anything about the character or her story.  Hopefully we’ll get an interesting, well-rounded female lead with solid motivation and her plot-line isn’t primarily about a) a man or b) not being able to have children.  Or c) her children being dead.

I love the way Steve Rogers’ story kind-of goes in cycles of effort and hope and bitter experience, and always comes back round to situations where he affirms who he essentially is.  It’s good to see a non-liner pattern of development like that, which is much closer to how real people deleop and change, instead of the standard narrative “A to B” model like Dr Strange (”was a jerk, learned to do better” - okay, he saves the world, so that’s good; but as for development, pish).

Yondu: favorite after-credit scene?

This is going to take a month to type, I almost wrote it out by hand, lol.  So, yeah, this is super long, sorry! If I can figure out how after all the wine I��ll make a cut. I relaly had fun with this. there are few things I won’t answer - mostly due to not remembering that far back - but I think those masturbation questions from the nsfw ask that went around a few weeks ago cover half of them :p.  ANYWAY… Here’s the deal.

1. Dream vacation location?

Greece and the islands, a tour of the temples and ruins. That was my major in college, I should probably see them in person during my lifetime.

2. Who did you save - Kaidan or Ashley?

HA! Nothing against Ashley but I saved Kaidan AND I ALWAYS WILL! He is one of my two favorite imaginary husbands, my biotic booty, and just thinking about him makes my hands start with the pinchy grabby motions. which makes typing difficult :)

3. What is your favorite dessert?

It’s called Charlotte Russe. There are many different versions of it, but mine is the best, LOL. When I make it, it is basically a gelatinized custard, fluffled with whipped cream, spike with a shitload of sherry, and lined with cakey lady fingers. Decadent and rich and difficult enough to make that nobody else bothers and thus loves it when I bring it over.

4.What is a MUST-HAVE in a prospective partner?

I try not to be serious. Like EVER. I have alays demanded a compatible sense of humor. I love to laugh. It is important to me and my well being. Now, I am married, and the days where we do not make each other laugh hard at least once are few and far between.

5. Which was your favorite Dr. Who companion (if you watched the show)?

I’ve watched a bit through the years. My favorite companion was Rose. Mostly because I liked Billie Piper from another show she was in Secret Diary of a Call Girl, lol. It was fun, I liked her, so shes my fav.

Um, I have no idea. But its great for making my margaritas more delicious!! 

7.Favorite Movie? 

This was a toughie. I didn’t want to say it, but its gotta be Star Wars original trilogy. I grew up with it. One night - long story short - my friend passed out on my floor. I put Star Wars on the dvd player and freshy cooked bacon by her face so she would have ‘Star Wars Bacon Dreams’. At the time, I thought I was being the BESTEST friend ever, LOL. She was just really confused when she woke up with bacon in her hair XD

8.If you could have any superpower, what would it be? 

ooh, cool question. I’ve thought about this a lot actually and never come to a decision. one the one hand, I REALLY want to fly. But I think I’d have to go with selective mind reading. I’m seriously nosy as all get out! So you can see the appeal of this for me, LOL.  can be discreet - with other peoples information.

9. You have 3 paths before you, one leads to a misty forest, one leads to a ruined castle, and the last leads to a quiet lagoon. Which do you choose?

The forest is right out - there are spiders in there, and hell no. The castle is tempting for the history, but its probably too spooky for me, I’m going with the lagoon. I LOVE water! Yes, there are probably spiders there too, but I think I can deal with them because of the promise of cool clean water to float in. priorities.

10. If you could see your future, good, bad and in between, would you want to?

My first response was yes. But I changed it. If I couldn’t change the outcome, I wouldn’t want to know because I’d be constantly frustrated. Also, if you don’t make mistakes, you don’t grow as a person. I know that sounds philosophical and dumb, but I’ve been told I’m basically a 12 year old in a 40 year old body. Apparently I need all the personal growth I can get. LOL

1. If you could be a character in ME series, which class would you choose?

I’m a sniper in video games by nature. Its kinda my thing, my MO. I actually played all ME as a soldier so I’d have a good reason to keep Kaidan on my squad for 2 of the games. I’m gonna say soldier, but I intend to go back and try out the biotics and all the infiltrator stuff. Though being a soldier never kept me from having other soldier types (Wrex, Grunt, and James) in my squad!

2.Had any exotic/extraordinary pets? 

I had a pet snake in college, he was adorable and named Yossarian. He escaped his cage and lived behind my radiator for months. My roommate was livid, but she was the anti-me and I didn’t care :)  I never did get him back, By the time I got around to it, he was gone. My first pet after I truly lived on my own was a bunny named Chadwick. She was the cutest! 

3.You’re phones ringtone is? 

Really fucking lame. Its the old school phone sound that I grew up with., I keep meaning to change it, but never get around to it because nobody ever calls me. Eventually it’ll be Lady Marmalade 

4. If you could get anything right now, what would it be?

I want a puppy. Actually I want two because they need friends. I want 2 teacup pomeranian puppies. I have chosen the breed, my family decided they get to choose the names… the front runners are Godzilla, and Lord Poof Destroyer of Worlds. #help me

Serious things? Failing my children as a mother. I want them to be happy and healthy and smart and cultured and prepared and badass. Slightly less serious? My biggest fears are burning alive and GODDAMN SPIDERS!!!

LOL! There are few. Just sayin, I’ve been playing video games for a REALLY long time. A few phrases stuck with me all these years. #1 “It is dark. 9. The best movie you;ve ever watched?

I gotta go with Steel Magnolias. I know its supposed to be a tear jerker, but honestly, I see it as a comedy. I see me and my bestie in the roles of those two ornery old ladies in 40+ years. I think about it all the time in my real life. I know people who can fill almost every role in that movie. But, mainly, “Don’t ask me those questions! I don’t know why. I don’t make the rules!” and “well you know what they say: if you don’t have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me.” Yes, I’m terrible. I want ALL THE GOSSIP! but I don’t spread it without permission!

10. You’re introvert or extrovert?

I can’t decide if I’m an introverted extrovert or an extroverted introvert. I meed my alone time or I’m a bitch on wheels. But, I need my social time or I lose my mind. I’ve read descriptions of both, neither seem to work. so I’m torn. whatever, labels, ugh

OK, on to the really tough questions posed by the kick ass @scientistsalarian! These were the hardest, and I’m not sure I can answer them all even now, after a few weeks when I forgot to do it… oops :P 

1.If you could cross any two animals and keep the result as a pet, what would they be?

I gotta say hamster and bunny. can you imagine a teeny tiny bunny as a pet? It really doesn’t get much cuter than that.

2. What is the oddest thing that attracts you to someone else (romantically or platonically)?

FUCK! That’s tough one, LOL

3. Who always makes you smile?

There are two answers to this. One is a new friend here on tumblr who is fucking hilarious. I’ll keep his name to myself, but he likes to think he’s boring. HA! I smile every time I read one of his messages. The other is a local friend. She says we’re twins… except I’m not Hispanic or catholic. Those are easy to overlook. She always gets me in trouble. We can be in the middle of a karate class and she and I are turning everything the instructor says into a dirty joke XD. AAAHHHHH a dirty mind is a terrible thing to waste!

4.Do you like spicy food?

YES YES YES! Not SO spicy that my tastebuds burn to dust, but if its spicy and I can still taste the floavor, bring it on!!! Put jalapenos on anything and make it better! Hey, not many people know this… champagne goes great with a burger with hot pepper cheese and fries dipped in Henry Bain sauce! Just sayin.

hmmm, Dennis Leary was my favorite for a long time. But I think the one that stands out most is Eddy Murphy and Raw. I watched that with my dad when I was in high school. Most of what I remember is that it was all about sex and I was trying to appear like I didn’t get the joke! Seriously, I REALLY didn’t want my dad asking me why I was laughing at all the oral sex jokes ;D  No, Dad, I have no idea what he’s talking about <snicker><eye roll> yeah, I don’t think he bought the whole “innocent routine”

7.If you had the power to make one fictional character real, who would you choose?

another toughie. Could I guarantee that this character would be my LI? Then no second thought, Adam Jensen! Well, maybe second though Kaidan Alenko. But if I as trying to be altruistic… I’d say Shepard. This world needs someone who can do what has t be done and say fuck you at the end of it… of course that is all based on MY opionion of what has to be done…

8.What song is your guilty pleasure?

LOL. Its a guilty pleasure so I don’t want to tell you… I have a few. Basically anything by FloRida, I can dance or run to that. There is also the ooccasional Grateful Dead when I’m drinking and cooking. But I think my main guilty pleasure is anything by Hatsune Miku, especially Ievan Polka. I took my daughter to her concert in Chicago last year and it was the coolest thing i’ve ever seen in my life! The singer was a damn hologram! wtf. it was amazing.

9.You now have the power to grant the hiccups to anyone at anytime. How do you use this power for maximum comedic effect/chaos?

ROFL. Easy. Trump rally/speech/whatevcer. Anything to keep me from hearing what that jackass spews on a regular occasion.

10. How quickly do you fall in love?

Unfortunately its too quickly. I’m kinda old, and I’ve been around the block a few times. Ive been in love a good handful of times. Some lasted some didn’t. I’m married with children now. But that falling in love thing, its still too easy.

How I Fell in Love with Psychedelic Festival

I had to share a review about new perception of my summer experience in the Netherlands. I hated to say it has been few weeks since bouvak holiday over, as well I came back home from my first psytrance festival, Psy-Fi, in Leeuwarden, a quiet town located at far north of this country which transformed into psychedelic dance ground in every late August these past five years. 

This year’s festival theme was ‘Book of Changes’, an unquestionably one of the most important books in the world’s literature. Regards of the meaning, I suggest to click Psy-Fi website here for further description.

In 5D4N of festival (but campsite opened for 9D8N), De Groene Ster of Leeuwarden became a place of society safety net for their people to connect and express themselves, which I thought every person needs every once in a while.

PEOPLE

I’ve been experienced other festivals, but this one was completely extraordinary. There were reasons why I’m writing now, right? I even think that festival was a point-of-view changer about people and possibly lead me to become a regular audience, or at least speak a truly unique range of human can be. A multi-culture society want to be, who really come for acceptance of friendship and love in the festival. No matter who they are. Or where they are from. Freedom really is there.

Psy-Fi was about connecting people from all over backgrounds into one. It sounded too much, but it happened! And I was there. You might think, they were all high that’s why they said hi. But as a psytrance newby, arrived sober, I could sense the energy of that festival once I entered the campsite was remarkable friendly. People were generously smiling and helping each other out.

The sense elevated once I’d done a tour of the festival arena, where somewhere there I crossed path again with Ben, my German pal in Australia, accidentally. Love was all around. People were so comfortable about themselves and respected others. It made me slightly accepted myself better too. The first day of festival was the best weather. People were dancing, hugging, playing with their children, (naked) swimming, or like me, just laying on the beach: everywhere was ‘gezellig’, you would feel and enjoy love. 

PARTY

I didn’t experience any uncomfortable issues with security, actually it was my first festival with no security matter. Again, freedom really is there. The campsite was well packed, had a pretty atmosphere and in some parts parties was going on all nights.

I didn’t recognise many DJ names, but Ajja. His performance hipnotized and kinda left me a beautiful imperfection feeling. What I meant about imperfection was about the downside of relatively low volume at the main stage. Maybe it was a little choice for Psy-Fi as neighbours voiced complain about the sound. It could be louder then I would say his performance was spectacular. Overall, 24 hours of 5D4N journey in Goa psytrance music would be too much for me if there were not a little help from my dear psychedelics buddy. Various sample from magic truffles to peyote cactuses most available at the Zamnesia Smartshop. They didn’t sell grass, people have to go to coffeeshops in the city for that, but they sold kratom leafs I saw the first time in my life here in the Netherlands! So funny they used mostly Indonesia’s big islands as names. I didn’t know whether to proud or not about that haha.

As they wrote also on the article, MDMA, LSD, magic mushrooms were “allowed” (was not legal but no one hasled about it), but they highly restricted GHB and ketamine. I agreed. Make a wise decision about drugs. Expansion trip to your alternate consciousness supposed to not a trip to the hospital (or jail).

Anyway, Psy-Fi was my first travel with LSD. Man, I loved it. It was a microdose of half paper strip but took me for 10 hours of trip. I didn’t remember when and how I got to that journey but I knew I went there willingly. I didn’t regret I didn’t mind narrowing with consumed a lot of beers. It was expensive anyway about 3 euro’s a glass. As I experienced, millions of sounds came to me sharp and vivid after around two hours of interlude. Green forrest and the sky marmalade, gave me no warning about their transformation. It was not about people anymore that time, just me and universe. Thought I made my group jealous *grin*. In my case, that was what to expect on my date with Lucy. I pictured myself sailing on a boat in the sky with diamonds.

Once I got my brain straight, I embarked again with two packages of sacred Valhala and Mexicana truffles. Oh those disgusting taste bastards, such a pain in the ass to swallow but worthy pain after all. I dated my Lucy back.

As a first timer of course I was careful of my consumption (well actually I always too careful and never that stupid to my body, substances for me is a total recreational). I knew and understand LSD is a potent psychedelics that would create some funny business inside my brain, as I wanted and prepared. It didn’t make me helpless so supposed to not frighten me. With a little bit of awareness about it I experienced an enjoyable trip. Lucky girl.

Thought I tripped too deep with myself, I didn’t forget to thank my wonderful companions. Psy-Fi lead Luc and I hang out whole week with another two nice Dutchies, shout out to Rutger and Arjan, “Lekker toooch?!”. You know, it is always a lucky plus when you can find good types of people in a festival simply due to the nature of their personality and energy. As a group of that moment, we went well. We could speaking nonsense or engaged in captivating conversations while our thing kicked in our body. As well could hold periods of silence to each other. I was longing for friends since I moved to this country and grateful to found them as 2 new ones :-) Awwwww.

PLANET

Pro

De Groene Ster of Leeuwarden is the gold standard of nature. That place was charming and there was within each of us, as happy people, a memory of knowing that everything we need is provided for us by the earth. And for feedback reasons to that land, more than 16.000 people who came there really took a lot of care for cleanliness of festival arena. Really I never saw that beautiful thing of a festival where people could walk around easily bare feet. It was that clean, not even ciggy buds. Saluted for all Psy-Clean volunteers, any remaining trash was taken care of by those crew and somehow people also could manage their conscious to throw their ciggy buds in portable ashtrays that part of goodie bag they gave out at campsite’s gate. Even when they were high. Gosh, I loved those people! Psychonautic travelers usually are incredibly polite to the nature.

Cons

Opposite with how amazingly clean the festival arena was, here they were my hiccup of the festival: toilet situations. Fuck, I hated those things! By every promising words written on the article Psy-Fi handed out about two times a day of toilet cleaning, I didn’t expect clean and ready to use toilets all the time but I imagined at least there would more toilets, especially in Southern Campsite, and toilet papers available. Oh well yes, of course it was just imagination. The event organisers still need to work harder on some logistics like that. Or next time simply just write ‘BYO toilet paper always, peeps!’. Don’t give people like me, who easily trust to anything, a high hope.

Sums up over the journey, Psy-Fi was the longest and the most interesting festival I’ve been so far in the world. There was always an essential moment of surprise that created self-observation story in my head, I clarified I was living on the moment judged from not so many pictures taken on my phone gallery. Man, I could manage to write these long words too after all. There might be a celebral aspect from my first psychedelics trip. Same-same but different with my first MDMA experience 2 years ago. However there were still challenging, uncomfortable aspects from the festival that Psy-Fi need to upgrade for better future in particular finding easier ways for people to get their camping gear in and out of the festival. Also as I mentioned above, about toilet situations. In the end of an opportune time to reflect on my experience and appreciate my sobriety, I’ll see you next year, Psy-Fi!
