yuri gets unstable and crazy during ddlc just like mikan out of nowhere even tho she was usually pretty shy before

natsuki is meant to be a tsundere which might not be so far off from hiyoko, since I remember her getting more comfortable with hajime once? Idk but still, that and how natsuki also bashes on yuri sometimes (the fight scene)

and then sayori getting deleted from the game, I mean, yeah you see her die but THEN she gets deleted. For the others I think they just die, so basically pretty much works with chiaki, other than nagito she’s pretty close to hajime

And monika? Nagito bc duh it’s a komahina centered au but also bc it just FITS. Nagito is SUPER smart and a bit crazy, he knows how to do things to get his way and because nagito is someone really important to the story regardless if you like him or not you HAVE to pay attention to him

i had recently gotten a new computer, there are so many things i still need to work with and customise to my liking.

so, to cure my boredom, i'm installing ddlc again and replaying it!

my favourite character is natsuki, i absolutely loved how adorable and relatable she just is. she reminded me of one of the kids i babysat.

after installing the win files i extracted them all and started the game up, as usual, i see the 4 dokis on the main screen on startup.

i entered my name of choice and started the game ---

wait, bachira??? FROM BLUE LOCK??

why was he sayori? not gonna lie, his sprites are really cute, but how..??

i re-checked the website i downloaded the game from but it displayed the 4 dokis there and there was nothing wrong..

huh, why am i being scared?

i should be grateful, honestly.

gosh this got me feelin' so giddy and chipper in the early fucking morning..

i continuously skipped many dialogues and had finally gotten to the part where sayori, or in this situation bachira, hangs himself..

right, this was a horror game after all. did i really forget about the main plot?

i stared at the screen with an obvious frown. rin and isagi are next..

and the person behind all this was saeshit. ugh, seriously... well, good thing i can just delete his files at any given time.

progressing through the story even further, i got a special poem and cringed at the 'drawing'. it was bachira hanging in a humorous manner.

this was unfortunate.

i clicked on the chat box endlessly, wanting to speedrun to the moments of all my favourite characters deaths..

seeing rin crack his neck and isagi stab himself looking like a crazed maniac broke my heart. good things don't last.. this will probably be the last time i'll ever be able to play this version of the game.

then, here sae was, fuck was he smiling for?

i was met face-to-face with sae, i pursed my lips and stared at my computer screen.

"i found this 'cutesy romance horror' game and it had all the things i needed in order to cross over to the real world. this version of the game only exists on your desktop, {user}. is {user} even your name? are you even a girl?" he shot me a confused expression.

"i've been practicing for a while, i think i can finally break the laws of physics and rules of nature between our worlds." uhm, does he even know what the fuck's he saying?

"i'll see you soon, goodbye {name}. i love you." HOW DID HE GET MY NAME? DID HE HACK INTO MY COMPUTER BECAUSE WHAT THE FUCK..?!?!?!

i was scared shitless, jesus christ, just what did he mean by all that? i force shut down my computer and rolled to my bed covering myself in my blankets. time to go back to sleep after that eventful experience.

ddlc hcs: are they a morning or night person?

Monika

-she's naturally a night person but she tries to be morning person for the sake of her schedule

-due to school and other responsibilities she puts importance in being punctual therefore often making herself wake up early, it unfortunately doesn't come naturally to her however

-as she mentioned in the side stories, she often gets distracted doing things late at night. She truly enjoys staying up late into the night when she's finally done with her day and she's granted some time to relax and engage in the things she enjoys or explore new curiosities 

-She tries, she truly does try to go to bed early, she sets herself a specific time, get herself ready and everything but more often than not she can't help herself from indulging a little. 

-That little turns into a lot leaving her to set numerous alarms, chug coffee and shower blast herself in the morning

-this was the start of her coffee addiction by the way

-she adores those weekends or any mornings where she doesn't have a specific responsibility for the day, allowing her to finally stay up like a 2am gremlin and get a nice peaceful sleep in in the morning

-the days she gets to sleep in are very precious to her. If you wake her up early on a day when she doesn't need to you'll earn yourself a piercing death glare (green eyed stare hehe). Her passive aggressive grumpiness will last until she gets her sleep or an unhealthy amount of coffee. 

-again that theme of her responsibility is more something she's had to teach herself over time rather than something natural

Sayori

-don't have as many hcs for her cuz we already the answer to this but I still got some

-we know she struggles with getting up in the morning and such so obviously not a morning person 

-honestly, Sayori doesn't feel like she's a morning or night person but she stays up late into the night regardless

-usually not really by choice. she tries to go to bed but usually her mind is still awake and keeps her busy with heavy thoughts leaving her to not wanna wake up in morning

-she has at least some mild insomnia, her thoughts keep her up for hours and it's worse depending on how bad her mood is

-she often just accepts it and tries to distract herself with simple activities or videos on her phone and other random stuff

-If she has the energy she'll write a poem, some of her best stuff comes out at this time.

-y'know when you're a kid and you have that fear of being the last one to fall asleep? Well Sayori had that except she never grew out of it. Despite that she's still the often the last one to fall asleep.

-sometimes, especially on sleepovers, she gets a big burst of energy right before she crashes and passes out

-in the mornings she tries to get herself out of bed by thinking of things to look forward to that day

-loves sleeping when she can get it right

Yuri

-okay hear me out, she's a morning person and a night person

-as you'd expect, Yuri stays up late reading or getting invested in another one of her interests

-as she mentioned in the side stories, she can get distracted with things at night, gets lost in it. 

-Sometimes she forgets that sleeping is a thing you're supposed to do and suddenly its 3am (devils hour lol anyone remember that?)

-she loves it though, she loves having that special time to herself where the world is quiet and dark, she feels like she can really be herself

-but as much as she loves that, she also feels just as refreshed waking up early

-she loves waking up early, before everyone else

-she gets a couple hours or so before her day starts just to wake up and get herself ready at her own pace 

-drink some tea, read, shower, that kinda stuff. It's like a calming ritual all to herself and it makes her feel more ready for the day.

-this often ends up in her not actually getting that much sleep, but she's used to it

-I can see Yuri being the kind of person who doesn't need that much sleep to function

-she can function perfectly fine on 2 hours of sleep without a drop of coffee or nothing

-she doesn't even get really tired that often she's a mad woman, she's just built different

Natsuki

-last but not least Natsuki, the only one I think wouldn't be a night person

-its not like she's an 8am freak or something, she thinks going to bed that early is loser behaviour

-but she prefers not to go to bed at like 1am or something, in a shining moment of responsiblity she usually tires to go to bed the earliest out of the four of them

-she prefers starting her day early and having sufficient time to chill and get herself and everything ready perfectly just the way she likes

-thought that's her preference, she doesn't always get the privilege of this

-at her house with her dad she gets anxious at night. She doesn't feel as comfortable in the same house as him

-she often waits until he falls asleep first before she's able to sleep and sometimes that can be much later than she likes

-and then she wakes up later than she wants. she doesn't sleep in so much that's she risks being late but it definitely doesn't give her enough time to relax

-so when she's sleeping somewhere else where she feels much safer she'll be the first to pass out and she can actually stick to her preferred routine

-she gets embarrassed about knocking out early but the others assure her it's fine

-sometimes when she's anxious about something her anxiety will wake her up (definitely not projecting no no no)

Quick extra Bonus (To push the Natsuri agenda real quick)

-I imagine if they all lived together, Natsuki & Yuri find out that they wake up around the same time, earlier than the other, so most mornings they get that time to themselves to chill and talk and be gay or whatever together :]

As Yuri sat with her head to the window in her mother's car, watching the scenery go by she silently wished she would have kept a book out of her luggage to have an excuse not to make small talk, she loved her mother, truly, but she was far from pleasant to be around, her blatant displays of bigotry almost cartoonish and overacted, she very obviously did it for a reaction, one that Yuri tried to give her as rarely as possible. Just as this thought finished crossing her mind it was immediately exemplified.

"Don't fall asleep on me yet dyke! We've got four more hours left I'll be bored to death!"

As Yuri gave a thumbs up to make it clear she was both awake and listening she scrunched her face and pulled her eyes shut, she really did hate how that had almost become a term of an endearment, her mother used it like any other would use 'hun' or something of the like. Desperate for a distraction she pulled her phone from her handbag between her feet to see if she could pull something up on Ao3 but was greeted to a notification on her lock screen, 'Sayori <3 sent you a message: Hope you have a good Christmas! Missing you already 😢'

Yuri smiled, a smile she needed. She shot back a reply and continued on her original mission, she had barely opened her browser when her mom spoke up again, "So!" She took a very long pause, "Any luck with uni applications yet?" Yuri took a deep breath, her interaction with her mother were usually brief and aggravating, but she always did get chatty on the way to see her father for the holidays, "Not yet." Her mother glanced at her a few times, "Oh well I do hope you get in soon! Like your little friend Monika!" Yuri gave a glare she didn't like to give from the side of her eyes, it was like reflecting her mother's own usual expression, "Er, uh partner, whatever you know what I meant. I always liked her best, Willow did I a good job on that one." Yuri breathed a silent laugh, she honestly still couldn't imagine Monika's aunt hanging around her mother, let alone being life long friends.

To her own surprise she found herself initiating conversation, "What was miss Willow like growing up anyway?" She asked while she tried to stretch her shoulder, "Oh!" Her mom stopped to stifle a laugh, "She's always been sweet as a peach," she stared at the windshield with what appeared to Yuri to be admiration sparkling in her eyes, "Blossomed like a flower as she aged, let me me tell you when we met she was an ugly duckling!" She laughed hard, "Fat little thing with the thickest glasses I ever saw!" Yuri sat in silence before peering down at her own stomach for a moment.

"Oh but not now, she is just beautiful." She stopped long enough for Yuri to get curious if that was all. "I'm sure were I a box munch I'd throw myself at her!" She laughed hysterically and Yuri rolled her eyes. "I remember," Yuri silently scolded herself for getting her started, "This one time Willow and I decided we were going to pull a prank on Agustuce," Yuri cut her off, "Who?" Her mom glanced at her with a look of disbelief, "Sayori's father! How do you not know his name??" Yuri just shrugged, she supposed it had never come up, "anyway," she went on, "He hadn't got all tubby and boring yet, he was a HOT ticket item let me tell you! But we never did see him in that light, he was just the third of 'The four' is what we called ourselves, our best friends, it was just us, Agustuce and Billy. I spit on the prick's name."

Yuri's eyes widened at that last part, she knew that name. Natsuki's 'Papa' she looked over at her mother, who wore an expression that almost read as grief. "You- you knew him?" She asked, shuttering at the years old memories of Natsuki finally opening up to her about the horrible abuse she faced at home. Sensing her daughter's discomfort she offered, "He wasn't always a monster. He was truly a nice young man before brother booze got a hand down his gullet. Don't get me wrong I'm very satisfied that he's rotting away behind iron, but I won't let that taint my memory of the man he was."

They sat in silence for a while, Yuri decided to break it, "The prank?" She encouraged, "Pardon? Oh, Oh! Yes, we tarred and feathered him with maple syrup and pillow feathers in front of a girl he was sweet on." She let out a small chuckle, "he wouldn't even look at us for a month." And they returned to silence.

It wasn't until around an hour later that they stopped for gas that they spoke. After Yuri had went inside the station and purchased herself a small drink and snack, she met her mother at the bench and table outside, "You ready to see grandpa?" She said after a long drag on her cigarette. Yuri nodded, it was true, she was quite excited to see him actually, despite his age he was far more tolerant and understanding than his daughter.

"Sure you wouldn't rather spend Christmas getting ran through by your harem?" She prodded, Yuri sighed hard as she set down her drink and gathered her courage. "Why do you feel the need to say things like that? What good does it do to treat me like you do?" Her mother opened her mouth to reply, but Yuri didn't let you, "I'm stuck with you for another few hours so I'm letting it out right now!" Her tone was louder and harder than she wanted, "What would you say if I said those things about your relationship with Father!" Her mother's face grew sour and she put out her cigarette. "Let me parrot your own words at you! Let's use the ones you used when I came home yesterday! Hey Mom!" She was getting louder, "You were gone a while! Get enough of that train Dad ran on you!" She was huffing hard now, grateful that the only person aside from them there was the clerk of the gas station.

She immediately shrunk into her hair, frantically running her fingers through long locks. Her Mother opened her mouth to a snarl but no words nor venom followed, she just stared, her expression softening. She offered no apologies but her eyes held remorse. She walked silently to the car and Yuri followed.

Yuri filled the silence by texting Natsuki.

Incest is there for the sake of Shock Content and not there for "reasons"

I am primary okay (as a victim of incest) with depicitions of said incest in certain curcumstances, it depends on if you're willing to show it in a light that seems to be horrifying as all hell. But if the Incest is there for publicity or getting people outraged so people can buy your game.

Then you don't know how to write.

Incest is a topic people are strong about (it's a kink to most. Which is why this fandom is popular) and it's something not to be taken lightly. Instead when you have both characters act all incestous it seems like it's completely shocking because you didn't expect it to happen, and exists solely because the creator wanted free art of the two siblings.

Idgaf about this, as much as I want, but only highlighting it as the fandom seems to think the game isn't harmful at all, and thus I am viewing it under the lens of a "normal game"

Psychological Horror isn't all about shocking people.

If your idea of scaring people is by 2010s shit like cannibalism, murder, attempted murder, satanism or child murder. Then you're on par with the creepypasta and analog horror scene.

The game is labelled as Psychological Horror when there's nothing but Incest, Murder, Cannibalism and has no rhyeme or reason. We went from DDLC to THIS real quick.

An example of good PH is DDLC, and Corpse Party.

Both take place in a school setting with school, and school is often associated with scenes involving making friends or having fun. Just like regular Horror, it's supposed to make you feel tense.

In DDLC this is mitigated with Yuri, Natuski and Sayori's deaths. It messes with your mind and (because of an incident involving a child death) now it has a warning screen.

DDLC fucked with a lot of people because it subverted the expectations of people who went into it blind thinking it was a typical dating sim. and they were shocked to see that no, it wasn't anything like that.

Corpse Party, is standard Horror but still can be counted the same.

There's nothing "Scary" about TCOAAL unless you find the style unnerving then oh.

The Playground vs TCOAAL

Booktok blew up with a Splatterpunk novel called The Playground. It's a book that's on par with TCOAAL in terms of how you can fuck with the viewer and make them disgusted.

Ms. Borden is a despicable woman who abused and killed her mother, was obsessed with the prospect of having children because she was such a narcissist but with her depravity and Nazi "friend" ruining everything for her, it's a good thing she didn't have kids, but a bad thing she was legally able to adopt.

Borden one day adopted a boy named Rock who she abused until he was older then sexually abused, Rock was obviously traumatized by this (Rape is a reoccurring thing in Aaron's books) and because of this, he has some sort of resentment towards Borden.

While Borden and Rock aren't related (as they are adoptive parent child) it's still incest on the grounds of "Pseudo".

The difference between TCOAAL and The Playground is that it's seen as bad, and that the character doing said action and the "relationship" is disgusting as all hell. While some can argue it's also for shock, you can't help but notice that even with certain shock jock content, people can and will write something "okay"

LeyLey and Andy are Heros when they are supposed to be villains while Frieza is a villain and is ALWAYS a Villain

Anon in a post tried to own me by claiming I liked Frieza, and told me his actions, nowhere on my profile did I mention I liked Frieza because he was a bigot. I liked him because he was a complex character. Frieza's actions in DBZ down to DBS are seen as bad, he's always punished, and the narrative never paints his actions as "good" and the only good thing to ever happen to him is when he has the dragon balls, and they aren't barred from evil people.

The narrative and I see Frieza as irredeemable. He's someone who, at every chance he was given at Redemption was immediately shut down, he's a ruthless piece of shit with no redeeming qualities who you root for to lose.

Meanwhile, Andy and LeyLey? They are seen as heroes for killing a little girl, for chasing away Julia, for cannibalizing people, for murder, for killing their parents. And you're expected to ROOT for them? I'm sorry, if I can't like Frieza because he's a complex character then you can't like those two.

You can't sit here and strawman my points and ignore my past posts comdemning the VERY thing you claim I support because I said "Incest Game, BAD" it's in bad faith.

Lily Orchard's Stolkholm and TCOAAL

Just like TCOAAL a fanfiction that Lily wrote a long time ago surfaced called Stolkholm, it was a miniseries set in the same universe about humanized version of the MLP in dark situations, it's a GrimDark fic (Basically MLP's version of DarkFic, I dunno bc I ain't a Brony) that has ALL the fucked up shit you can muster.

The story was written by Lily, but most of the time she had NintendoGal do most of the work, and there's a 1 hour video archived that SeaFoamPrincess made you should watch.

The focus we're doing is the similar approach into excusing away abusers and the likes actions. In Stolkholm many of the relationships in that story are glorified and romanticized, while in TCOAAL the same can be said for the characters.

Note: Lily DID write Stolkholm, and she DID hurt her sibling and is a degenerate who likes Incest, Rape and Foalcon. She is a hypocrite who thinks because she's trans means she's above criticism. Coming from a Trans Man myself, once you transition you're not exempt from your past misdeeds as your deadname, you're still the same person, but with a different identity and preferred name.

"Fiction doesn't affect reality"

Lastly, I've seen discourse surrounding the fact that people can indulge in something "disgusting" as long as you don't condone it, but that term has become something of irrelevent when you realize that there was actual proof of cases in which Fiction overlaps with reality.

Lily Orchard wrote disturbing illegal acts in fictional work, she was outed as a predator and rapist.

Someone who watched an episode of invader zim killed their neighbors.

Randy Stair murdered people because of his delusion

And those are the only things I can think of, people can and will end up ruining that term that's being associated because they can. It's best to not use that excuse.

Ok so about this whole doki doki literature club thingy. As I said it's very messy cause like with most of my stuff there are so many alternative versions because I don't know what I want but

The way I see it the boys are in places of the ddlc girls aside from Monika cause well, there's three of them, not four unless we brought someone else in. In short: Russell = Sayori, Sunil = Natsuki, Vinnie = Yuri. Questionable choices right there, I know, but tbh I'm not going with those choices because I tried to give them whichever of those girls fit them most, I mostly went with how they died. As I always say it's called an alternative universe for a reason.

It's not really important but I thought I'd add it here cause why not, cause Vinnie in a literature club? Well, the way I see it maybe Russell started it or joined one (which was started by whomever Monika is) and Sunil kinda followed behind because the club was small and cozy and he too is into certain literature so why not? And Vinnie? He joined just to spend more time with Sunil and Russell, if they're there then he's there too. Maybe even sooner or later he would get into some literautre not to get kicked out xD perhaps just comic books or maybe even manga? You know, like Natsuki read. Or heck, adding to Vinnie Yuri maybe he would get into horror stories? He already likes horror movies right? So it's not that hard to imagine that he could get convinced to read some horror.

Anyway, although I think of it as mostly from the perspective of how the game plays out, I can't think but wonder who mc could be. Cause I just don't know. Whoever mc and Monika would be the important thing here are the deaths which is where their roles really come in.

So Russell is mc's childhood friend who has lately started being a little less like himself - going late and avoiding his responsibilities etc because of his developing in this world depression. So anyway, he like all the boys develops a crush on mc, all the stuff that happened in the game happen, Monika's counterpart convinces him to kill himself and he ends up hung whether mc accepted his confession or not.

Sunil was the most reluctant at first to have mc in the club because he felt good with just 4 of them so at first he appeared rather reluctant and shy which to mc appeared a little rude by accident but then he warmed up to the new member. He also is the one to notice Vinnie's weird obsession with mc (in a sec about him) cause he didn't use to be like that. He too is the one who noticed Monika's (since I don't know who Monika could be I'll just keep saying Monika) very weird behavior and tried to warn mc. Well, he ended up opening up in creepy ways about his problems and then with snapped neck

And then there's Vinnie who was friendly the entire time with mc, but later like Yuri started getting way too friendly and obsessed with mc seemingly out of nowhere and tried to have them all to himself and that also made him rather agressive. There's also this whole obsession with knives and self-harm, the main point is his obsessiveness and of course death by fucking stabbing himself right on mc's eyes and then his body is left to rot for an entire weekend as Monika is messing with everything.

That's the way I see it if the game was with Russell, Sunil, and Vinnie but this can go many ways really. Like for example I also like having Vinnie as Monika cause that's even more obsessive behavior and as you know I like him like that. Or or having Sunil as mc so Vinnie and Russell fall hard for him and yipee messed up boys poly except ot really, but who would be Natuski then? Idk idk. Basically, I want those three to get their personalities manipulated to get obsessed with mc and then die.

I… don’t have much ideas for Monika and the MC either. Should we pick another boy character? Or go with one of the girls? Hmmm I’ll just refer to them as Monika and MC as well for now lol.

Funnily enough, I actually imagine Russell being the one to start the literature club. He just seems like the kind to take the initiative like that. Which would fit him into Monika’s role more, but TBH it also works fine that he just decides to join a club that another student has started previously.

But I like there are ‘signs’ of Russell’s depression and such. Maybe the MC goes thinking “Huh… he was so responsible and organized back then. Is he okay?” But then they simply dismiss it as him changing through the years. They are childhood friends after all, and people usually aren’t the same for all of their life stages. But dear oh dear is MC in for a shock ahahahaha….

Sunil being Natsuki in the sense that he’s hesitant about a new club member sorta makes sense. I imagine he’s doesn’t meet lots of new people all the time, he just hangs with the people he already knows. And the club was indeed small and cozy, kind of just their friend group but with a Club title to it. So he wouldn’t be too sure about this whole new member thing. Then again, it is a club, and people can join clubs anytime they want, so he has to get used to them.

And also the part where he starts noticing Vinnie’s (Yuri’s) obsession for the MC? I can see that. I do imagine him being very observant in general, so it works.

And the Vin, the Vin, the Vin! God, reading this really makes me remember just how fucked up DDLC really is. But I still do love it regardless. Obsessive Vinnie <33 Which actually, again, makes him another suitable candidate for Monika. You’d love to spend eternity with him in the clubroom, huh? No other distractions 😌😌😌

But anyway yeah! I do like your DDLC AU with the bois. They get their personalities manipulated and then die. Lovely! There are lots of ways we could go about with this.

As for my own ideas, I guess I did have thoughts about my own DDLC AU with the girls, this time. And there is 4 of them here to fit the number. I don’t have 100% any ideas for the roles. Except for Zoe being Monika, for the sole reason that I’d want to spend eternity with her <333

My main inspiration, as controversial as it is, was school days (As a matter of fact, the game was almost called Fall Days for a little while, but I didn't want to get sued lmao). I never actually played the game but I saw a video essay about it and the feelings of love and jealousy in young love. I thought it looked really fun to tackle feelings in that way and wanted to make something quite close to it and make it pretty fucked up, but I think I ended up stranded a bit farther away from it.

Another inspo was Yuri from ddlc, I guess that one is pretty self-explanatory.

I was inspired after self-reflection, to approach some topics about loneliness, limerence, and, more importantly, growth, I don't like Yanderes without a motive and I wanted to create one that could be more real.

And, since Technoblade's death, I thought I had finally understood what grief felt like, it was a feeling I never felt before, and it led me to want to represent it somewhere.

The aesthetic and the season came afterward, I thought fall would be quite fitting for Chester as the season is comforting, yet somewhat sorrowful, it is a reminder of mortality and the end of things as winter approaches but also a nice feeling of being close to finally taking some time off and being comfortable underneath blankets.

To be honest the process was a mess I don't even think it is worth pointing much out lol, it was my very first game and I hadn't developed any kind of organization for it. But I did end up learning a lot at least. I scrolled tumblr a lot on the yandere tags for more inspiration and I even did a cheesy mood board for Chester!

Actually, I hyperfixate on tsp but the games that had a severe impact on my life and my mind are Doki Doki Literature Club and Your Turn to Die. GET READY FOR THE CRAZIEST RANT EVER GAH (major spoilers for both below btw)

You should know why I like ddlc, lmao it’s the most beautifully crafted game I think I’ve ever seen in my life. The stories behind the characters, how all four aren’t just leveled down to stereotypes like you’d expect and have their own complex motives and beliefs. I find Monika and Natsuki especially fascinating. Monika obviously because of her dealing with being trapped in a purgatory where she’ll always be alone, her friends aren’t real and there is no escape. The one person she feels can understand her, she’ll never be able to reach. Natsuki has been my favorite character ever since I first watched the play through of the game when I was 9 or something, but my reasons have changed over the course of all these years. Her character is my favorite, and her story especially with the ddlc+ release is amazing. She’s constantly in defense mode in order to protect herself, having to deal with her situation at home and her toxic friends. Her only save haven is the literature club, and in act 2 when Monika tries to recruit more members we find out that Natsuki values her friendships and finds safety with just these four people. During the just Monika scene in act 2 when you read what Natsuki wrote I got goosebumps reading her poem. Her cry for help and her concerns for yuri’s mental health seemed so real through how they wrote her poem. In fact, I think she’s the strongest of the group, albeit the most immature and reckless at first glance she’s the only one who doesn’t really succumb to Monika’s antics. Both Yuri and sayori died to their own minds, and there were tons of ways to kill Natsuki off as well. Yet she survived. Technically, at least (lmao). Yuri had a suspicion toward Monika, but they chose to lead that into the climax of her obsession for MC. Natsuki seems to be the only one who decided to step in because she *knew* something was wrong. Idek why I’m talking about Natsuki right now this is about the game but it has BEAUTIFUL character writing and story and mechanics and I love it with my heart and soul. I could play that game over and over again for the rest of time and never get sick of it. I’m not joking.

Yttd is just as good, maybe even better for completely different reasons. I think what made me love this the most is the character death. In lots of series and games when a character dies, it shoves someone into an arc and writes a chapter and then everyone moves on. Yttd is so realistic and impactful with their deaths, when Joe dies you literally get a mechanic in game where you can’t think about him too much or else you’ll go crazy from grief. The death scenes are so unique too, especially in the first chapter. Sara having to carry the guilt of “prolonging and causing” her friends deaths is persistent through the story, and everyone understands when she needs support people to trust. Keiji’s story and his relationship with sara makes the entire game even more important to me. The whole game really emphasizes the bonds between everyone and learning to cope with the death of loved ones. To help each other feel safe, to help each other calm down and trust each other, to help each other live. The pain in everyone’s eyes every time they have to vote someone to die. The fact that they argue for hours and try to bend the rules of the entire game’s reality to get just one more hour for Sou to be alive. The mechanic of being able to choose who lives and who dies is something I’ve never seen before, ESPECIALLY in that style of game. Your choices matter. Every single one. And they WILL have consequences. Game over scenes or selfish incorrect choices don’t just flash a title on your screen and say retry. You have to watch as you crumble to the floor in disbelief, knowing you failed everyone as you watch them die one by one. This game isn’t even completed yet and I’m CRAZY over it oh my god I never expected ANY of these plot twists and it’s beautiful and I love it. The day the next chapter comes out is the day I rejoice so hard I pass out from exhaustion. ANYWAYS I AM SUCH A YAPPER BUT OMG ddlc and yttd great games check them out

'Why were gods portrayed with behaviors similar to humans?'

To make them more human, probably? Giving them sentience, making them feel more human so people can understand. To care, and worship. Otherwise, it's just a still image. Just an idea, or words on a page. It wouldn't have been as important. I mean, tell me of any books out there where the main character is otherworldly and felt on a different plane compared to humans. Like, being sociopathic basically, or "shows no regard for right and wrong and ignores the rights and feelings of others". There's probably something out there, but it's not generally seen often. People wouldn't really like bad characters, y'know? Sociopaths have a negative stigma attached to it, and that'll follow it regardless of who it is half the time. Or, like, they might be too ruthless, in which the reader wouldn't like that character. If they had feelings though, if they felt and they cared and all that, and weren't all entirely perfect, then people might care about them.

Or like, think Monika from DDLC. She gained sentience, was basically the huge big bad that led to all her friends' death, but people don't think about that usually. Yeah, there's 'just Monika', but people also think about the end. Where you heard a female voice, which you assume is Monika. Where you hear her have emotion, where she sings Your Reality, and you feel sympathy for her.

You didn't before though. If you look at her sprites (or basically those still images of a character's appearance in visual novels), there's literally no emotion attached. It's all just so still that you don't find yourself caring about her that much.

If you look at Yuri's, however, you can see there's a lot more. There's poses that give you a little insight to the character, and you can find yourself caring about her and her shy personality.

It's only when Monika shows her less-than-perfect self that the player feels more care towards her. When there's a human voice that can be attached to it, it ends off on a good note, rather than a huge 'hate Monika' campaign, y'know? The song is cute, however a bittersweet goodbye from Monika to the player, but it makes her a lot more likable.

vent: a thing about some fear i have

idk how 2 say this but i literally have an irrational fear/phobia of shaggy... whenever i see or hear anything related to/regarding him i feel anxious, worried and scared along with a chill down my spine as i find him 2 be extremely intimidating, creepy, scary and just plain terrifying.. he just makes me feel (not physically but emotionally) nauseous and he creeps me out bc he gives me the extreme heebie-jeebies due to the potential fear of him hurting me but at the same time it almost feels like as if miku hatsune, konata izumi, snoopy, l (from death note), patchouli knowledge, yuyuko saigyouji, yuri (ddlc), &/or stocking anarchy are some sort of comfort relief whenever this type of fear (aka the "shaggyphobia" as i call it) kicks in..
