okay also a juke AU i didn’t think i needed but now i do?

luke is a radio host, probably does the late night show, the graveyard shift maybe

and sometimes he does these little jam sessions where people can call in and they just...have a jam session lmao

julie’s still grieving the loss of her mom, her musical soulmate, and she usually finds herself awake during the late hours. she turns on the radio one night and stumbles upon luke’s channel. she enjoys it, feels a strange little spark inside of her that’s been dormant for so long when he starts jamming along to a song. so she starts tuning in every few nights, listening to him talk about random shit, listen to the passion that emanates from him whenever he starts talking about music, listen to him sing and the pure joy she can tell he’s feeling when he’s having a jam session with a total stranger over the phone

one day, maybe it’s been a particularly hard day for her, she decides to call in. and at first she regrets it immediately when he picks up and she can’t get her voice to work. but eventually he just starts talking and coaxes her into a light conversation. he asks if she wants to jam but she’s just not ready yet. so they just have a chat and that’s that.

this continues on for a few nights, a few weeks, until one day she gets the courage to sing. and luke is absolutely floored. julie stops singing because it’s suddenly too quiet from his end, and she’s worried she’s done it wrong she hasn’t sung in so long what if she’s forgotten how to do it??? so she starts apologising and luke scrambles to get the words out of his mouth to tell her that she literally has the voice of an angel and she should never apologise and he’s star struck

and ya. they continue in this fashion until luke finds a way to ask her if they can meet. they do. theyre already in love. soulmates.
