"You Killed Bharat Mata In Manipur": Rahul Gandhi Attacks Centre
Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister over the ongoing unrest in Manipur which has claimed over a hundred lives.
Tumblr media
New Delhi: The BJP has “murdered India in Manipur” and is now trying to set Haryana on fire, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in Lok Sabha today in a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government.
Addressing the Lower House during the debate on the no-confidence motion against the BJP government, Mr Gandhi said, “India is a voice, a voice of the heart. You have killed that voice in Manipur. You have murdered Bharat Mata in Manipur. You are traitors. My mother is sitting here. The other mother, Bharat Mata, you killed her in Manipur. That is why Prime Minister does not visit Manipur. You are not protectors of Bharat Mata, you are her killers.”
“The Prime Minister has not gone to Manipur because he doesn’t consider it a part of India. You (BJP) have divided Manipur,” Mr Gandhi said, amid loud protests from the treasury benches. He alleged that the centre can stop the violence in Manipur by calling in the Army, but has not acted yet.
Invoking the epic Ramayana, Mr Gandhi said Ravan was not killed by Ram, but by his arrogance. “You have sprinkled kerosene everywhere, you have set fire to Manipur, you are now trying the same thing in Haryana,” he said, referring to recent communal clashes in Gurugram and Nuh that killed six people.
The remarks sparked a huge uproar in the House, with senior ministers demanding Mr Gandhi’s apology.
Earlier, Mr Gandhi said that when he set out on the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu to Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, he was confident of his fitness and did not expect it to be difficult. “But this country does not tolerate arrogance. Within a few days, an old injury resurfaced and I was in pain,” he said.
The Congress leader recounted how he derived strength and courage from the people he met during the march and also felt their pain and hardship. Mr Gandhi also recounted his conversations with two women in the relief camps set up to shelter those displaced due to ethnic violence in Manipur.

Pahalgam Attack Hits Kashmir’s Tourism and Peace Hopes
Pahalgam, one of South Kashmir’s most visited destinations, was hit by a terror attack on Tuesday, shaking the region and raising fresh concerns about safety in the Valley. The attack comes at the peak of the spring tourist season, when visitors from across the country travel to Kashmir to enjoy its natural beauty.
Pahalgam is not just a tourist hub; it also serves as one of the main routes for the Amarnath Yatra, attracting lakhs of pilgrims every year. Its scenic meadows, pine forests, and trekking routes make it a must-visit on every traveler’s list.
Tourism Sector Faces Setback
The attack has left the local tourism industry deeply worried. Rauf Tramboo, president of the Travel Agents Association of Kashmir, said the incident is a “huge blow.” He explained that tourism had grown steadily in the past few years due to a relatively peaceful situation, but now they are already receiving cancellation requests from customers and travel partners.
Thousands of people in Kashmir rely on tourism, from houseboat operators and taxi drivers to hotel staff and local guides. The fear is that this attack could cause another major drop in tourist numbers, undoing years of slow recovery.
Steady Growth Since 2018
Tourism in Kashmir had been growing since 2018. In that year, over 1.6 crore tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir, with 8.3 lakh visiting the Valley. But things changed in 2019 after Article 370 was revoked, followed by a long lockdown. That year, the number of tourists in Kashmir dropped to 5.65 lakh.
The COVID-19 pandemic made things worse, with only about 41,000 visitors in 2020. However, from 2021 onwards, tourism began to bounce back. In 2023, more than 2 crore tourists visited Jammu and Kashmir, and over 27 lakh of them came to the Valley, a big jump that brought hope to the local economy.
Government’s Normalcy Push Challenged
The central government has been promoting Kashmir as a peaceful, tourist-friendly destination. In 2023, Srinagar even hosted a G20 tourism meeting, where international delegates attended under tight security. The government also introduced new policies to encourage film shoots and public events in Kashmir.
Lieutenant-Governor Manoj Sinha often called tourism a “sign of peace,” saying that real calm in Kashmir would come through development and travel. Just last week, he said terrorism has no future in Jammu and Kashmir.
Tourism Isn’t the Same as Peace
Despite the growing number of tourists, some leaders warned that more visitors don’t mean Kashmir is completely peaceful. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said in 2022, “Tourism is not normalcy. Real normalcy is when there’s no fear, no violence, and people feel safe.”
Tuesday’s attack proves that threat still exists. And while tourists have returned, the fear that incidents like these could scare them away again is very real.
What’s Next for Kashmir’s Tourism?
As the region comes to terms with the attack, the impact on tourism will likely be felt in the weeks and months ahead. For many locals, tourism is their main source of income. The hope was that 2025 would bring in even more visitors and help strengthen the economy. Now, those hopes hang in the balance.
The attack in Pahalgam was not just an act of violence, it was a direct strike on the region’s progress, peace efforts, and people’s livelihoods. To read top news headlines in Hindi, subscribe to our newsletter!

A Trip to Kashmir: A Journey to Paradise
Kashmir, often called "Paradise on Earth," is a dream destination for every traveler. My recent trip to this breathtaking valley was nothing short of magical. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the snow-capped mountains, lush green meadows, and serene lakes.
Srinagar, the summer capital, was my first stop. A shikara ride on Dal Lake at sunset was mesmerizing, with houseboats reflecting on the calm waters. The floating markets and the aroma of saffron and Kahwa tea added to the charm. The Mughal Gardens, with their vibrant flowers and Persian-style architecture, were a treat to the eyes.
Next, I visited Gulmarg, famous for its meadows and adventure sports. The cable car ride to Apharwat Peak offered panoramic views of the Himalayas, and the fresh snowfall made it a winter wonderland. In Pahalgam, I trekked through the scenic Betaab Valley, surrounded by pine forests and gushing rivers.
The trip ended with a visit to Sonmarg, where glaciers and alpine lakes left me spellbound. Kashmir’s beauty, hospitality, and rich culture made this journey unforgettable. As I left, I knew one thing for sure—I would return to this paradise again.

A visit to Kashmir isn’t complete without spending a night on a traditional houseboat on Dal Lake. The houseboats are floating hotels, offering both comfort and a unique experience. With stunning views of snow-capped mountains and the gentle ripples of the lake, this stay is one of the top things to do in Kashmir. As you sip a cup of kahwa (traditional Kashmiri tea), you’ll experience an authentic taste of local life.
2. Visit the Mughal Gardens
Kashmir’s Mughal gardens are some of the most beautiful gardens in the world, designed with intricate planning and artistry. Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, and Chashme Shahi are the most famous among them. With their symmetrical layouts, vibrant flowers, and stunning fountains, these gardens reflect the grandeur of Mughal architecture and the beauty of the Kashmiri landscape. They’re perfect spots for a leisurely stroll or a family picnic.
3. Trekking in the Himalayas
Tumblr media
For adventure enthusiasts, Kashmir offers some of the best trekking opportunities in India. The Great Lakes Trek, the Kashmir Valley Trek, and the Betaab Valley Trek are some of the most famous routes, each offering stunning views of lush green meadows, alpine lakes, and towering mountains. The serenity and beauty of Kashmir’s unspoiled wilderness make trekking here an unforgettable experience.
4. Shikara Ride on Dal Lake
A shikara ride is a quintessential Kashmir experience. These wooden boats glide over the calm waters of Dal Lake, allowing you to take in the picturesque surroundings of floating gardens and traditional Kashmiri architecture. It’s a peaceful way to explore the lake’s hidden corners and observe the vibrant life that thrives along its shores.
5. Visit the Vaishno Devi Temple
Tumblr media
Located in the Trikuta Mountains, the Vaishno Devi Temple is one of the holiest shrines in India. Pilgrims from all over the country visit to pay homage to Goddess Vaishno. The temple is accessible via a scenic 12 km trek or by a helicopter ride. The breathtaking views of the mountains and the spiritual aura of the temple make this visit one of the key reasons to visit Kashmir in 2025.

Nestled along the banks of the Lidder River, Pahalgam is a picturesque town known for its breathtaking views, lush greenery, and tranquil environment. Whether you’re hiking, fishing, or simply enjoying a scenic walk, Pahalgam offers a variety of outdoor activities. The town is also famous for being the starting point of the Amarnath Yatra, a sacred pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave.
7. Discover the Traditional Kashmiri Cuisine
Kashmiri cuisine is as rich and diverse as its culture. Savor the delicious wazwan, a multi-course meal featuring specialties like Rogan Josh, Dum Aloo, and Gushtaba.
