Some more info on my latest wip (which I’m lovingly calling gay space aliens for now)! Fair warning, this is just a copy of what I wrote down in my brainstorm document, so it might not be as coherent as it could be but I’m hoping that posting something about it is going to motivate me to keep working on it

alien is a scout, has to go explore the parts of the galaxy nobody wants

they couldve teamed up with someone else, but due to self worth issues they didnt, so now theyre alone for the rest of the time they have to serve their space military

which is long and sucks but oh well theyre certainly not going to say anything NOW, that would make them look even weaker and even more useless

so they just kind of vibe up there all alone for a few months

and then return to society to spend their holidays being all alone (but this time on a planet)

and then back to work yay

there are multiple alien species btw, most of which are part of the intergalactic union (which is an allience, but it really treats poor and small (in numbers, not size) species Not Good)

like, theyre exploited and shit

alien mc is [insert name here], which is one of the first species to join the union and also these amazingly good warriors that most beings are afraid of (but nobody shows it because uhhhhh they could probably ruin you in more than one way)

theyre all focused on physical strength and stuff because of their history i guess (powerful warriors are powerful basically, their whole society is based around that)

so of course when our mc fails all their tests everyone is shocked pikachu face @ them and they basically get kicked out :(

except not really because that would mean admitting their species was somehow weak enough to produce such a failure, so they get send off to do some scouting as far away as possible

their pay is pretty bad (because the ruler really doesnt want money wasted on them :( ), so they cant really afford to take more than the minimum thats required between missions off

and they also have to eat this protein bar stuff, that looks bad, but tastes pretty decent because they cant afford to buy more expensive food for their travels

they also dont have connection to HIVE (basically their species‘ internet, except its controlled and censored) which sucks at first, but they discover their passion for reading (mainly happy stories about outcasts and underdogs saving the universe because someone is projecting) and writing poetry

they also learn lots of languages (theyre completely fluent in the most common ones and pretty decent in lots of others)

which is why they only have a one way translator on board (it can translate every langauge into a specific target langauge via some neurotransmission action where the wearers words arent what is getting translated but instead what they mean with them)

which is great for preventing misunderstandings and also translating not documented languages

alien mc sees this whole scouting buisness as a job only the worst of the worst are told to do

meanwhile our human sees it as this great duty they have the chance to fulfill and are super excited about going on their first trip

okay, now might be a good time to bring up the fact that the union and humans are kind of really at war
