her heart was beating so fast with anxiety. her lungs felt heavy as though cement mix had been poured in her chest, it was the kind of dread that made most people run away. but she knew it was different. this was the butterflies in the stomach tickling your heart to be reckless and follow a stranger in the middle of the night type of feeling too, while the brain would give you a million valid reasons to ignore it. it was just a feeling, but boy was it strong. and as he talked she could finally see the sincerity in his eyes. she laughed as he told her he didn't want to walk away from her. with a faint sigh, she looked into his eyes all over again and the fear somewhat subsided. the sound of eating a burger was nice, and his nervosity only made her more comfortable. she chuckled with him.

"tommy, I'm diana" she replied back. "I have to say, you're such a gentleman. and yes I'm starving" she smiled back at him as she started walking, realizing she hadn't properly wore his jacket he so kindly offered her but she liked it better that way. it felt heavier and more comforting somehow. "I've only had cotton candy so far. I feel like such a kid here" she said almost talking to herself. "so tell me more about yourself tommy, what do you do for a living?" she asked.

“No” he said sharply, but without losing his smile when she asked if that was his usual pickup line. He couldn’t help the smile on his face when watching her. It was like watching an Angel right in front of him. “No miss it is not a line I use, I wouldn’t use any line on you, I’m speaking straight from my heart right now you can believe that” he said nodding his head with sincerity.

Once her friend left, Tommy noticed the change in her behaviour. She was shy, he could tell, and normally he is too, but something came over him when he saw her. “Listen, I really don’t want to intrude on your night, if you’d like I can walk away right now and you can go back to your friends…really” he gave her a kind smile, and backed a little bit away to the side. He tilted his body as if he could turn away, but then gave her a lopsided grin. “I don’t really want to walk away from you, but I will if you want to get back to your night” he said nodding his head, and looking her in the eyes so she’d know he meant it.

He hesitated for a moment before speaking again. “I was thinking however that we could maybe get something to eat? I don’t think you’re from around here, and I…I know a great place around the corner…if you wanted fries…and a milkshake, even..even a burger too” he couldn’t help but chuckle a little , as he used one hand to scratch the back of his head and the other he waved around as he made the suggestion. It was obvious he was nervous, Please say yes he thought. “They got it all” he let out a breathy chuckle. realising how amusing the situation really was, and he looked at her with a sparkle in his eyes. He put his hands back into his pocket, not knowing what to do with them. “What do you say…miss….?” He trailed off at the end, realising that he had asked her out for a burger before even knowing her name. “I’m Tommy” he said and extended his hand for her to shake. “It is a pleasure to meet you” he smiled.
